Hoid's quest

So a tasty WoB was just posted on Reddit. Thanks to Pagerunner for posting it in Discord. Thought I'd make a quick thread as it's fascinating.

The request was for a personalization that hints at Hoid's quest. The WoB was "To make that which once was".

Obviously that gives some weight to the theory that hoid is trying too reassemble Adonalsium.

Another option is to effectively reunite Yolen, after it's division by fain life. There is the WoB in response to a request for a dedication from a resident of Yolen, "May two worlds become one to you" (which does not mean realms).

So is Hoid trying to reassemble Adonalsium? Is his real goal simply to reunite Yolen? Any other theories? Over to you boys and girls.

We have WoBs and Arcanum Unbounded confirming that Yolen has two competing ecologies so it's not really 'unpublished' per se, even if all the specifics we know about fainlife come from an unpublished work that we know is going to be massively revised before it's published and becomes canon.

Anyhow, given how obvious the 'making a new Adonalsium' theory is, I'm tempted to go with restoring Yolen's complete and pre-fain ecology just on the basis of it being less obvious. Another possible interpretation is that there was something specific on Yolen that no longer exists, possibly independently of fainlife (the recently shared Dragonsteel Prime chapters show wars going on for example, even if that specific sequence was lifted for Stormlight Archive) and Hoid wants to recreate it and needs to tinker with lots of different systems of Investiture in order to figure out how to do it. Actually, my first suspicion for an alternate interpretation of that WoB would be that Hoid is seeking to recreate his favorite flavor of instant noodles, except that apparently those didn't exist on Yolen before the Shattering so Hoid wants them even though he's never had them before. :D

The reddit poster said this was from 5 or 6 years ago. That's before WoR, before we saw Hoid had Breath or Allomancy, before we he tried to become an Elantrian, before he stole the moon scepter, before we were told he has Scadrian medallions, before we learned that Adonalsium had been Shattered intentionally by the original Vessels and that Hoid had refused a Shard.

Discounting an idea because it's too obvious is a very dangerous road to go down. If the data points are forming a line, you don't fit a ninth-order polynomial just to make it look cooler. This falls perfectly in line with the increasingly popular idea that Hoid is attempting to reform Adonalsium, but was from well before we had most of the evidence used to support that idea. Don't overthink it!
