Wax's coin ability

Farnsworth

Recommended Posts

Wax says something very odd in a flashback. He is with his uncle Edward who is showing him a coin and a counterfeit duplicate. He tells them apart by overlapping them in his eyes.

Quote

Eyes unfocused, coins before him, he crossed his eyes intentionally and let the images of the two coins overlap one another.

I've always assumed this ability is a result of him being a twinborn, kind of like when Radiants get abilities from mixing two shards.

Then he says something very odd.

It was a trick he'd been taught by a friend at a party recently, used for making two drawings spring to life by overlapping them.

Is this a common ability on Scadrial? Was this friend an unusual person?

But these are just coins. His uncle doesn't believe that he was able to do it, and insisted that he was lying. Only some people have that ability.

This is something anyone can do, even in real life. You can use this to complete those "find the object that is different" puzzles.

Dude, take two coins, hold them up next two each other and cross your eyes so the picture lines up.

If part of the coins is different, you'll know.

Anyone can do it.

That's how I used to solve "spot the difference" games in Highlights for Kids in the waiting room of the dentist's office. Cross your eyes, and the similar sections match up while the differences jump out.

Meanwhile, Wax's uncle immediately jumps to the conclusion that someone is hiding knowledge for their own gain. It's a telling character moment.
