PowerKeepers: A Rogue Mage

This may just be my favorite character in my universe. Drake is a Sorcerer (a mage who uses Magic directly). Here is my original stuff. He has finished training with the PowerKeeper of Sorcery, and now has the option of becoming an actual apprentice, a role which could eventually lead to him becoming the PowerKeeper of Sorcery himself. But instead he chooses to refuse the offer, the first time in all of history that that has been done. Why? Because he believes that the PowerKeepers allow too much suffering in the universe. The PowerKeepers do not get involved in the minutae of life. They stay out of anything that does not effect the galaxy or the universe as a whole. Drake disagrees with this policy, and instead chooses to go rogue.

Drake stormed out of the conference room. He was SICK and TIRED of those pompous lords, glutting on their power. Instead of helping the universe become a better place, they sat around and explored nonsense alternate universes and theorized about the nature of Magic.

He passed several students scurrying to their training sessions. They were brainwashing all of them into becoming lazy and unhelpful. Something needed to be done. Something drastic.

Incidentally, he walked into the Library. Lining the walls of the library were extremely powerful magical artifacts, just sitting there. They were basically never used; they were both too powerful for lesser mages, and redundant for the PowerKeepers, particularly Jonathan.

His eyes were drawn to a sword on the wall. Excalibur, Sword of the Great Mage Merlin. Probably hadn't been used since the guy died over two thousand years ago.

Drake narrowed his eyes. Merlin had been a Great Mage. How much power must have been placed into the sword by Merlin, who supposedly recreated the Ley Lines that gave the universe life.

But... stealing was wrong. But was it truly stealing if it was never used?

He carefully felt out on the Magical plane, and sure enough, there were protective spells designed to freeze him in place and sound an alarm if he tried to take it. Drake deftly reached out with his mind and changed the instructions on the spell, making it so the alarm would go off if it was on the stand. He grabbed the sword, and just as he lifted it, he pushed the changed spell into the stand that the sword had been upon.

No alarm. He could still move. And the power from this sword was incredible. He stood in awe for just a moment too long, because then the librarian came in.

The oldest apprentice was always made into the librarian. Her eyes bugged as she saw what Drake was holding. She put her hand against the wall, and activated the alarm spell laced into the wood.

Drake wasted no time. He instantly drew upon the magic within the sword's gemstone, to create a transportation spell. But the PowerKeepers were already appearing.

His master was furious "DRAKE HOW COU-"

Suddenly Drake was in a darkness, able to breathe, but with no idea where he was. He reached out reflexively and reeled back in shock at the wall of spells that surrounded him. He had never felt anything like it. These were spells beyond the complexity that was even possible. They had so many subroutines and passways and backpaths that they were invincible to even the most powerful assault. Even his master could not have created this.

Being smart, Drake was able to figure out who could have.

"Merlin's home" he breathed. The sword must have transported him here when it sensed danger. This was a place that hadn't ever been found. He quickly wove a lightbringing spell, speaking a word of illumination. The ley lines responded, and a ball of light appeared, hovering centimeters above his hand. And he looked about in awe.

Surrounding him was every spell- creating tool imaginable, especially featuring 7 massive gemstone tubs. Tubs designed for potion soaking to create particularly potent items. Wands, gems, and books were everywhere. And perfectly preserved! Merlin's spells must have protected them from the decay that came from time.

Sending his light to the middle of the room, Drake discovered that he was in a cave of some sort.

Well, now that he had betrayed the Powerkeepers, he needed a place to live. This would have to do. He saw a bed on the side of the cave, and walked over to it. Magical cushioning spells. Drake grinned. He would have to find a source of food, as it wasn't possible to transmute enough food to replenish the aura while using the aura. It was a negative trade, which would lead to his aura becoming weaker and weaker, until he died of starvation. But everything else- even water he sensed being magically guided through the walls- would be provided here.

Hopefully, with the spells surrounding the cave, he would be safe from any who wished him harm. And so Drake laid down the sword, and collapsed on the bed. It had been a hectic conclusion to a crazy day. Tomorrow he would find food, and begin to read the books of Merlin. And, he could probably start creating some items. He had never had such potent baths available to him, and he had some items in mind that would make his crusade all the easier.

Before he went to sleep, he considered. He had gone Rogue. Drake chuckled at that. He had become  Rogue Mage. He ended the light spell, and fell asleep.

Jonathan is the Water PowerKeeper, unusual in power because he is the Great Mage, the most powerful mage of that element in the history of the universe. So no. They are not the same person lol.

The items are out because nothing like this ever happens. Usually.
