[Snapshot chapters 1 & 2] They feel similar

Okay, so Brandon released the first two chapters of Snapshot online. I have read only them, so no spoilers for the book please.

Does anyone else feel like the main characters (detectives) are just Wax and Wayne?

They have a similar feel, but Davis feels less rigid. He's definitely Wax-ish, but he seems a little more corrupted, a little more willing to use a Snapshot for his own ends.

At first, it seems so with all those mustard jokes.

(Speaking of which, I confess I also try to persuade a coworker eating mustard from time to time, because that guy is too picky on food.)

But with story moves forward, no, they're clearly not Wax and Wayne clones.

These two protagonists have fatal moral flaws.

After reading the whole book, no, they are not.  The entire straight man - jokster pairing of two cops is a trope that is significantly  older than Wax and Wayne, anyway, and yes, Davis is cast in this trope as a straight man, while Chaz as a jokster.   

But without giving much away, let's just say that Brandon subverts this trope by the end of the book.
