Request: Quote mentioning Hoid from Elantris

I am about to introduce my wife to the cosmere, and want to start the process by presenting her with the passages mentioning Hoid from the various books. Sadly, we don't own Elantris yet (though we have read it).

 

Would some kind soul be willing to post an excerpt of a section mentioning Hoid by name? I've searched online, but so far haven't been able to find a quote doing so.

The 10th anniversary edition has an entire chapter with Hoid in it, if you haven't read it. Might not be worth buying the book on its own if you've already read it, but that seems like a good place to introduce your wife to Hoid.

If you check Hoid's page on the coppermind it mentions what he was doing on Sel.

There was a reason he had managed to survive a decade on the streets of Kae without being caught. “What the boxes contain is none of your business,” Sarene replied, handing him a pouch of coins. Hoid nodded, his face hidden in the darkness of his hood. Sarene had never seen his face, but she assumed from his voice that he was an older man.

I wasn't aware that there was a whole Hoid chapter in the new edition. That definitely moves it up on the "To Buy" list!

Hoid scrollò le spalle. Nonostante la morte di Telrii, il mendicante si rifiutava di incontrarsi con Sarene durante il giorno. Il popolo di Hoid aveva passato dieci anni a temere Iadon e le sue fattorie; non erano abituati ad agire senza la presenza avviluppante della notte, anche se le loro intenzioni erano legali. Sarene avrebbe usato qualcun altro per effettuare la consegna, ma Hoid e i suoi uomini sapevano già come e dove depositare le casse. Inoltre, preferiva che la popolazione di Arelon non scoprisse cosa c’era in quella particolare spedizione.

«Queste casse sono più pesanti di quelle di prima, mia signora» osservò Hoid in tono scaltro. C’era un motivo se era riuscito a sopravvivere un decennio per le strade di Kae senza essere preso.

«Il contenuto delle casse non è cosa che ti riguardi» replicò Sarene, consegnandogli un borsello di monete.

Hoid annuì, il volto nascosto nel buio del suo cappuccio. Sarene non l’aveva mai visto in faccia, ma dalla voce presumeva che fosse un uomo anziano.

Rabbrividì nella notte, impaziente di tornare a casa di Kiin. Il matrimonio era programmato per il giorno dopo, e a Sarene riusciva difficile contenere la sua eccitazione. Malgrado tutte le prove, le difficoltà e gli inconvenienti, finalmente c’era un re onorevole sul trono di Arelon. E, dopo anni di attesa, Sarene aveva finalmente trovato qualcuno che era disposta a sposare tanto col cuore quanto con la mente.

«Buonanotte, allora, mia signora» disse Hoid, seguendo la fila di mendicanti che iniziarono a salire lentamente le scale delle mura di Elantris.

This is the only "Hoid part" in the old Elantris, in the 10th Anniversary there is a new one also, but I didn't read it yet.
