The Shin of Shinovar

Why are the shin smaller and prone to balding if Shinovar is a land safe of high storms, most of the time, and that's green which I'd assume means more nutritious food? This is just a question that's been kinda pestering me. If anyone knows why, it'd be awesome if you could let me know.

-Thanks

Highstorm's provide water which has an abundance of minerals, it could well be that by living in a land of fertility they are actually losing out on the minerals which their altered human bodies require to grow and function at 100%

Remember that the shards don't just terraform planets to make them fit for habitation, they are able to modify the population as and when required as well.

Guys, as far as I am aware Szeth is the only bald Shin we've seen. Thresh-son-Esan's hair wasn't described, but if he was bald, that would probably have been mentioned. Also, none of his warriors / guards had their hair described.

In conclusion, just because you have seen one bald Shin does not mean they all are.

It is stated that Shin men have a tendency towards baldness. Apparently that contributes to their looking like children somehow.

It's stated in the first Szeth Interlude. I always figured that the baldness and huge eyes meant that they looked like babies. Because, you know, babies have no hair. Either way, it does seem an odd way to describe a child. Maybe the rest of Roshar watches too much Caillou and assumes that kids all look like that.

The other Rosharians have Asian-type eyes and darker skin, I think. Wide eyes, light skin, and Baldness are all child like attributes.

Is it the first Interlude? I do recall it being Szeth who states Shin have a tendency towards baldness, but I thought this was said while he was working for the gambler lord?

...Which might actually be interlude 1...I'll shut up now.

Szeth looked up. “Kurp” meant child in the local Bav dialect. Szeth was accustomed to such

pejorative labels. Though he was in his thirty-fifth year—and his seventh year since being named

Truthless—his people’s large, round eyes, shorter stature, and tendency toward baldness led Easterners

to claim they looked like children.
