Popular Post Edgedancer
Being stuck in a car for quite some time gave me a lot of time to read. Having killed Tyn, Shallan wakes up with a new outlook on life. She has Vathah and Gaz escort her to the palace, where she requests an audience with Dalinar. Before she can enter, however…. Despite his obvious displeasure at giving into yet another one of Shallan's requests…. ….Kaladin returns with permission from Dalinar. Shallan plays it cool…. ….until Adolin shows up. Dalinar offers Shallan a position with his clerks, but Shallan refuses. She goes with Sebarial instead. And learns a surprising thing or two. Later, Renarin makes an unusual request. The next evening, Shallan decides to infiltrate the Ghostbloods. And Kaladin takes Zahel up on his offer for training, as do Teft, Moash, and Yake. Despite Teft's grouchiness…. …things go well. Until Moash reveals something shocking. Since I read quite a bit (and I'm worried about losing all the memes I made like I did last time ) I shall post Part Two later on. Good job Twi.
Popular Post TwiLyghtSansSparkles
Continuing in Words of Radiance…. Kaladin goes to a pub with his friends. While everyone waits, Moash takes Kaladin to meet his friends. And Kaladin is somewhat surprised. Past-times Shallan met someone. In his grand tradition of either insulting people, giving them advice, or both, he gives her advice. When I read those lines: Later, Shallan is studying some maps when Pattern chimes in. Pattern is not amused by human sensibilities. Likewise, Shallan is not amused by spren sensibilities. Past-times Shallan and her brothers create similes. And when Shallan commits the unforgivable crime of defying her father to save her brother…. (No. No you are not.) Back in the present, Adolin meets Shallan for lunch. As Adolin shares his tale of heroism... ….Shallan thinks of the most romantic question ever. Jasnah would have been horrified. Adolin is not Jasnah. More to come.

Popular Post TwiLyghtSansSparkles
Okay! With this installment, I'll finally be caught up. Sorry it took so long. This time, in Memes of Radiance…. Shallan brings up Jasnah's research with Adolin. And after he and Shallan separate to wait out the highstorm, Adolin runs into a despicable human being. Adolin goes, disguised as his father, to meet with Eshonai. It's….less than productive. In the chasms, Kaladin finally masters the trick he saw the Assassin in White perform. And Shallan learns yet another awful truth. Later, Adolin tries to get Navani to accept Shallan as potentially part of their family. And then he wins another duel. Shallan's next meeting with the Ghostbloods takes an interesting turn. Because of reasons that begin with "Wit" and end with "is driving," Kaladin rides with Shallan and Adolin in their carriage. Of course, while guarding them on their date, Kaladin sees Amaram. Incidentally, he hears Dalinar's announcement. Adolin's duels have been going well—but we all knew his luck had to run out sometime. Now, before I introduce the next meme, I should also inform you that I am also introducing you to a longstanding tradition of the Reckoners RPG, and that tradition is called "And Then They Died." It's simple: When you encounter a character so despicable, so morally bankrupt, so obviously relishing their wickedness, you start chanting "And then So-and-So died" to make their viewpoint scenes more bearable. I had been chanting this for Sadeas for some time, but it was this scene that made me finally decide to bring it into Memes of Radiance. Kaladin, honorable soldier that he is, jumps in to help Adolin….and then he wrecks it. Up next: Lift. Oh, and expect more of this…. ….in the future.
Popular Post TwiLyghtSansSparkles
I'm not gonna lie: Lift was my favorite interlude so far. When we meet Lift, she is a child thief preparing to teach her adult partners something about thieving. Not that Wyndle enjoys being called a Voidbringer. Lift is adamant about his designation, however—and distracted by the palace's design. Still, being bonded to a Voidbringer spren has its benefits—which come in handy for thieving. Wyndle is not amused by his lot in life. While Lift's fellow thieves set about taking expensive clothes, Lift heads off in search of a far greater treasure. As she sets off in search of food with Gawx in tow, she learns a bit about the Azir political system. With help from Wydle and her awesomeness, Lift reaches her target. She awaits her chance. Of course, as she waits, she realizes there is another someone there. Another someone whose ultimate goal seems good, but whose methods are….well….. Lift snags a roll and bolts for the exit. Unfortunately, Mr. Childmurder Safety Commissioner has a trick up his sleeve. When he reveals his plans to the vizier, she is not amused, but…. As she is dragged off, Lift manages to snag her roll. She eats it and, in a few minutes…. Unfortunately, it's not enough to save Gawx when Lift learns she is not good at calling Mr. Childmurder's bluff. Despite her instincts urging her to flee... …Lift arms herself with knowledge and returns for her fallen comrade. Using the last of her awesomeness, Lift performs a miracle. And because of that miracle, Gawx becomes the new Prime. Lift is pardoned, and she asks the only question worth asking. Szeth and Eshonai are next.

Though I would love to see a Memeborn trilogy, and though Lightsong from Memebreaker would be a treasure trove for you, I think that Memelantris could use a little more love. Popular Post TwiLyghtSansSparkles
Meanwhile, in the interludes…. Szeth ponders his fight with Kaladin, and realizes something. Meanwhile, Eshonai attunes a few of the new rhythms stormform has granted. She attempts to convince the Five to adopt a new course. The Five, however, are not fond of Eshonai's new look, and are thus hesitant to adopt it themselves, much less allow every listener to do so. Not that they don't have their reasons. Nevertheless, she proposes her plan. When their response is not to her liking, Eshonai goes ahead with her plan anyway. Her friend Thude isn't fond of the changes stormform has made in her, but he follows orders anyway. And, once those who want stormform are separated from those who don't…. And as Eshonai and her sister fight... ….I'm just sitting here, wondering.
Popular Post TwiLyghtSansSparkles
When we last left Roshar... Kaladin's prison has plenty of food and all the necessary amenities. Sensing a captive audience, Wit shows up to tell Kaladin a story. Meanwhile, Shallan studies maps of the Shattered Plains. Pattern reveals that his knowledge of human communication is growing. He also advises Shallan to face her past. It's friendly, but Shallan doesn't see it that way. Her next flashback works to change the reader's opinions of certain characters. Seriously, can he get a hug? Because he needs a hug. And Shallan's father leads me to ponder serious questions. Still imprisoned, Kaladin receives word from Syl that there was an unexpected visitor at Adolin's duel. Dalinar attempts to improve his attitude. It…doesn't work so well. A question from Kaladin prompts an unexpected revelation. Later, Shallan receives instructions from Mask Lady, aka Iyaltil. After infiltrating the temple, per Iyaltil's instructions, Shallan is left to find the madman and speak with him. Pattern has a suggestion of his own. Shallan finds the madman. Or is he mad? He speaks to her. Later, Kaladin is released from prison, and is greeted by Adolin—waiting in a cell. He asks if what Kaladin said about Amaram was true. Kaladin is surprised to hear that Amaram's reputation…. …actually heightens Adolin's suspicion of the man. I'll get to the gift tomorrow.

Popular Post TwiLyghtSansSparkles
This time, in Memes of Radiance…. Adolin explains why Kaladin was thrown in prison. He then reveals the gift he set aside, to thank Kaladin for saving his life. Although Adolin doesn't understand why Kaladin would refuse….. ….he doesn't press the issue. Kaladin decides to give the Plate and Blade to someone else. As he's helping Moash with his new Shardplate, Kaladin brings up the Elhokar assassination plot. Later, Dalinar and Navani attend a feast. He notices that everyone seems to be treating him differently. As Dalinar is asking Amaram what the storms is going on, Wit decides to give Amaram a very backhanded compliment. Finally, Navani tells Dalinar the truth—the transcripts of his visions were stolen and the tone changed before copies were distributed. This does not please her. Dalinar climbs up onto a serving table and makes an announcement. Wit is pleased. Still stinging, Dalinar asks him if he is a tyrant. The answer isn't quite what Dalinar wants.
Popular Post TwiLyghtSansSparkles
This time, in Memes of Radiance…. Kaladin isn't quite sure why Syl doesn't support his decision to kill Elhokar. Unfortunately, Kaladin realizes something deeper is going on: His act of making two contradictory promises is weakening his bond with Syl, causing her to revert to the way she was when they first met. Rather than make up his mind then and there, Kaladin turns his attention to Shallan, who is practically demanding it. She makes a perfectly reasonable request of Adolin. Kaladin notices something familiar about the man operating Dalinar's bridge. Then, while Sadeas is presumably eating fruit somewhere…. ….the carpenter flips the emergency release. Although Kaladin narrowly prevents Dalinar from being killed, he, Shallan, and others fall in. Thanks to Shallan, they survive, though Kaladin appears conflicted as to whether or not he considers this a positive thing. Meanwhile, Teft and Sigzil anxiously await their captain's return. Teft tells Sigzil about his parents and the group they belonged to. Kaladin, relying on his innate sense of direction, leads Shallan from the chasms. Realizing he has gotten them even more lost than they were before, Shallan takes the lead. Even with her map to guide them, Kaladin realizes they won't reach Dalinar's warcamp in time to beat the highstorm. Still, they're close enough to the warcamps that a call for help might reach some scouts, so Kaladin tries that. Not to worry. Shallan Davar, Most Interesting Fiancee in the World, has a trick up her sleeve.

Popular Post TwiLyghtSansSparkles
In this installment of Memes of Radiance…. Kaladin is going to have one heck of a war story when he returns. Of course, now that the chasmfiend is dead, there's still the highstorm to contend with. Roshar's Mother Nature isn't very nice. In the dark, Kaladin and Shallan need to keep talking, so Shallan shares her past. Once that's done, Kaladin receives a visit from the Stormfather. They return to Dalinar's warcamp with a surprise for the Highprince. Their story—that they found the chasmfiend dead and rotting—does not fool Dalinar. Shallan is given a hot bath, which after her ordeal, feels like heaven. After having Pattern relay Dalinar and Navani's conversation to her, Shallan is told that there might perhaps maybe be a way for Kaladin to make Syl less dead. In the next interlude, we're introduced to Lhan, an ardent working for the queen. Pai, a newcomer, is not impressed with his welcoming speech. Lhan urges Pai to keep quiet and do what good she can. Seeming to relent, Pai stays in one of the halls as Lhan goes to the kitchen for some snacks. Then the sun rises, and Lhan realizes the folly of trying to tempt an ardent with principles. Meanwhile, Eshonai comes to a startling realization about her sister. Taravangian, King of Kharbranth, has a nickname that I will be using from now on. He also has a gift from the Nightwatcher. On his most brilliant day yet, Vargo created a Diagram that can, for all intents and purposes, predict the future. Unfortunately, since he wrote it in a language he made up for that express purpose, people—himself included—have a tendency to look at it and say…. Per the Diagram's urging, Vargo is in Jah Keved, where the succession war has not been going well. The Veden king names him his heir. It's….not as pleasant as it sounds.
