Gaming the System - Crazy Extrapolations

Recommended Posts

I really like the electrum cheats.  Depending on what you are doing, it may just be necessary for you to decide in advance whether to accept or reject somebody's choice.

Spoiler if you don't want a magic trick ruined:

There are magic tricks where the magician guides the participants by knowing in advance what they need the outcome to be.

An example would be where the magician somehow got a deck of cards face-down on the table in front of the participant.  The participant is then told to chose a card at random.  Each time he chooses, the magician takes away the cards on one side of the choice, sometimes including the choice, sometimes not.  The trick is that the magician knows where the "correct" card is already.  He always chooses the other side to remove cards from.  That way, when he gets to the last card, it's what he wanted.  It makes the audience feel in control, even though they have no control at all, having given it to the magician by letting the magician actually handle the cards.

Using Electrum to signal to yourself which way the choice is going to go before you give directions could make the audience feel even more in control, while you perform essentially the same trick.  Ditto for knowing in advance how a dice will roll; you can make other decisions based on how it will come out, so that your fakery is even less obvious.
