Six Word Stories:

"The Stick reigns," said the Stormfather.

(Thus, the meaning of Stormlight it changed and the villain is the Stick who refused to change).

:) Oh, how fun it would be if the Stick was more powerful than the Stormfather, maybe even pre-splintering Adonalsium ;)

A smile with corpses squishing below.

The sunset smiled and slipped away.

Strongest hope rises in gloomy times.

Silver sheen, sharp edges, thrown swift. (Can you figure out what this describes? You should be able to do it by looking ONLY at this post.)

There was an online article I had read a few months ago, can't remember the name, but it was about a writer who had asked his students to write six words that would make him cry. And yes, the winning entry was disturbing; I'm putting it in spoiler tags for people who don't want to be depressed.

For sale: Baby clothes, pram. Unused.

That is, in actuality, extremely depressing, though I must respect that s creative, nonetheless.

She never did come back for him

Underneath their masks, Everyone is afraid

"And yet, you call yourself human?"

They say skies were blue, once.

"Lyra will be glorious!" "For you."

"You mean he won't recognize me?"

This is actually pretty fun, even if not all of these "stories" are super happy.

Did my self portrait just blink?

The competition one: ouch my heart :(.

Storming weather - a spren, holding leaves.

Tears hidden, heart crushed, she left.

Yeah, everything I'm coming up with or playing around with is pretty morbid. I guess cause it's hard to convey serious emotion in only six words.

  • 2 weeks later...

This Wikipedia article suggests that a variant of the sad one above, For Sale: Baby Shoes, Never Worn is the "original" Six Word Story, dating from around 1910.

My introduction to these came a few weeks ago, when xkcd based a comic on that one. See spoiler below for the lighter/more humorous versions from that comic.

The forum goers used this thread.

He awoke and started burning tin.

"Success!" he cheered, lifting the trophy.

"BUT IT IS NOT THIS DAY!" (Yes, I know, it's from Lord of the Rings, but it's still a great six-word story)

"The theories meld. It's quite confusing."

The Sharder forced himself to stop.

(That last one is a true story. This is fun.)

Kingdom, up for auction. Your bid?

The safest cookies have no spikes.

Shimmering petals danced on the whirlwind.

Harder than it seems!

 . . . .

Man, why is it so much easier to write these things as depressing/dystopian?

Because conflict is not inherently happy. ;)
