Heirs to the Final Empire: Roleplaying Thread

Hadrian is pretty new to running a major political power :). I guess he doesn't understand how quickly the world he is in is going to expand from a single city to several dominances. But for a generation or two he might be able to exert a little control over Luthadel.

As phattemer's said, I only need a minimum of one action to be stated here. The rest can be sent in via your HttFE PM..

Communicating with other players does not take up an action, but arranging trades would take an action from you both. I have changed my mind with regards to how arrangements like this can be carried out - There's a little more communication going on than expected, so to simplify things and not make them take an age to sort out, I will modify the rules regarding trades such that they can be more immediate. I will edit this change into the rules tomorrow when I'm back on my computer.

If you and the other player both say 'Action: House A wants to trade with this X for Y win House Z/Response: House Z accepts this trade with House A giving away Y for X', that is that they both state the same deal terms, then it can take place on that Turn. Otherwise, if there is a discrepancy, then the players will be informed of that, and they have another turn to get it right. if the player does not send in a response regarding this, then that player will be informed for the next Turn, same as before. The same is true of marriage contracts. Remember that one player must offer the trade (taking an Action) and the other responds (which does not take an Action).

Also, remember that you can only trade stuff you have. Your properties will not produce anything on the Turn you acquire them, but will the following Turn. After that, you may sell those Goods, if Goods are what it produces.

Edit: People really should give up on the idea of obtaining monopolies... There is no mechanical definition of a monopoly, and people can always just build/buy more of them. It's a bit too game breaking if each person just has an iron grip on industries with no way for others to gain a foothold. Plus. NPC nobles doing similar things. If you want to buy a lot of an industry, say so rather than using the term 'monopoly'. You can't control other peoples' Actions, after all, though you may give it a good try.

Just to clarify, the act of sending a trade request/ proposal costs the sender but not the recipient? What is the logic behind that? (I can understand why a trade would require as much effort as a regular action, but why does the one lose an action and the other not? This would stunt trading since neither trader would want to initiate a request since actions are already rather limited as is, and it doesn't make much sense in game since it implies that only the initiator is putting time into making the exchange when in reality both parties would have to organize the delivery of the agreed goods equally). In my opinion, it would make more sense if the trade either cost both parties one action each, or the act of trading resources costs no action (since negotiation is already free as well). Of course, it is your decision ultimately- I just wanted to check if there was a reason I overlooked since it is in the interest of all of us that trading is fair. :V

Gamic surveyed the grim and uninspiring holdings he had been granted by Rashek -- now dubbing himself 'The Lord Ruler' -- a squat, dull gray brick building, entirely unadorned and without any sort of warmth or homeliness.

"This simply will not do." He noted, shaking his head. No. If he was going to be the envy of the rest of the Nobles, he'd need something to stand out with.

"Find!" Gamic barked, summoning his personal steward -- he had arrived to his newly gifted keep and had found a small retainer or servants already waiting on hand, -- "Go and Find me some skilled workers and craftsmen!"

He had never bothered to learn the name of the man, just figured he'd call him the thing he'd ask him to do the most, so he just named him Find. Funnily enough, it didn't seem to bother the servant.

"Um, sir.... what skilled laborers and craftsmen? This new empire barely has a population to speak of, let alone hordes of nameless craftsmen just to be beckoned on whims."

Gamic sighed. Why is it so hard to find good help?

"Alright, here's what we'll do then. Put an open house call out. Any men or woman who have any skills of any sorts, or craft or trade that can be honed, then bring them here. We'll house and feed them, and have them teach others -- at a profit of course."

He brushed his hand over one of the drab, colorless banners hanging frayed and disheveled, staining black already under the unrelenting ashfalls. "Ugh, and we're going to have to do something about the atmosphere. It's way to dull and not nearly ostentatious enough in here."

It was Find's turn to sigh. "And, pray tell, what would you have me do about that?"

"I'd thought you'd never ask," Gamic said, smiling. "Go and find the brightest, most garish fabrics you can manage to uncover. If you can't find them, then get some of our newly hired craftsmen working on making some. We need some colour in this world besides red, gray, brown, and black."

"Would you like anything else?" Gamic could almost hear the resigned tone in Find's voice as the question was asked.

"As a matter of fact, yes. Find me something to drink."

"Water? Juice? Tea?"

Gamic glared at his steward. "Where. Is. The. Wine." It was not a question.

Find sighed. "I suppose I shall go acquire some local distilleries."

First Action: Gamic is sending open invitations to craftsmen and laborers to come share and learn their skills, a Trade School of sorts. Luthadel's first and Most Prominent, of course. ;) He is doing this to create future craftsmen and laborers for the benefit of the Final Empire and help making Luthadel the envy of the world. (And sprucing up his Keep!)

Second Action: Gamic, as house lord, is going about acquiring as many textile resources as he can! He is specifically looking into the uses or brightly coloured dyes and fabrics. This will be used to help create a market in a finer, higher quality of clothing for the Noble Class to wear to help distinguish themselves. (And clothing his servants in the best rags in Luthadel!)

Third Action: Gamic is getting Drunk. As in, he is buying up and converting as many local Luthadel distilleries as he can find into producing nothing but the finest Wines and Whiskeys. This is to help create a cornerstone in the Luthadel Liquor Sector, and set a precedent and example for all future breweries to follow. (So he can always be obnoxiously drunk!)

You do raise a good point. The objective was to ensure that people could respond easily to multiple trade requests in this case. You are right though that thematically it would take effort on both sides. Hmm... Well, if you're too popular, I guess you'll have to make choices/choose your friends. Yeah, I shall return to both parties requiring the use of an action to Initiate/Respond to a trade, though you can work together to get it done immediately.

  • Who? -  Lord Queade is performing this action, in his capacity as House Lord.

  • What? - Taking care of his servants

  • Where? - In his mansion.

  • When? - 1st Action

  • Why? - What I want is to gain the loyalty and respect of my servants, and foster a reputation as a caring master amongst the people of the Empire.

I've noted all these actions down so far. Glad you're really getting into it :).

I have edited the clarifications I made on the other thread, as people want more mechanical information.

I'm afraid that, for those of you who want to purchase three properties, that won't be amazingly viable straight away (though it is possible if you sell what they produce during the second Turn (which in turn assumes they have the raw materials). You will be poor during Turn 2, but will bounce back). I can't otherwise implement costs and Upkeep without making them dirt-cheap, which is entirely not what they are meant to be.

(does that mean I can't buy canals?)

No, nothing stopping you. The Luthadel canals will just produce a little more Wealth than normal canals due to the fact that it can't double as a trade route.

I just wanted people to be aware that buying a lot of property at the start of the game will inflict a bit of a cash-flow problem on you afterwards if you want them all running. The object of buying properties was never to buy everything you could for massive exponential gains later on, but for a steady increase over time.

OOC: Posted!  Please let me know if there are any problems.  For this turn, I felt like making all my actions public, so enjoy.

LUTHA ELARIEL:

TURN 1:

Lutha looked out at the crowd how had gathered to hear her speak.  As a whole, she likely had more wealth and resources than the whole lot of them combined.  Ash stained faces gazed up from beneath patched hoods to the podium where she would deliver her sermon.  It was difficult to believe that a shot time ago she had been in similar circumstances.  The Lord Ruler might have passed her over when he was handing out allomancy, but he had still chosen her to help him usher in a new world.  To Lutha, it made sense.  Unlike many of the lord who had been chosen, Lutha had no armies or resources she could pledge to the Lord Ruler's cause.  Everything she had was because of the Lord Ruler's grace.  He had already bought her, so it made sense that he chose to bestow allomancy on others whose loyalty came at a higher cost.

The fact that she had been passed over did not bother Lutha overly much.  She was used to being ignored or overlooked.  Allomancy or not, the Lord Ruler had given her an opportunity to play a role in his reshaping of the world, and Lutha was determined not to waste the chance she had been given to change her circumstances.  With her keep, resources, and followers, not gaining Allomancy seemed a rather small set-back in comparison.

Some of her followers had resented her position at first, indignant at the thought of serving someone of their own class.  However, Lutha had won them over one by one.  Now, she intended to spread her message of the Lord Ruler's power and generosity far and wide, recruiting more women and men to his cause of uniting the globe under his divine rule.  With his allomancy, which was far more powerful than even the best of the new allomancers, and his army of koloss, the Lord Ruler had the ability to conquer any of the remaining kingdoms on the globe, but doing so would take time.  Lutha intended to do all she could to help the Lord Ruler save his valuable time, and hopefully gain his favour.  She might not have allomancy, but with time and patience, perhaps her descendants would.

As she took the stage, she was greeted with disinterest and silent fear, rather than cheers.  These were a people defeated, who had seen the old world vanish into fire and ash, and had yet to be welcomed into the new world.  They saw her as a woman with clean skin in fine clothing, one of many, likely, who had tried to claim their loyalty.  It was Lutha's job to show them how much more than that she was.

"Thank-you for coming, and giving me an opportunity to speak to you all.  You might not believe it, but I was like you once.  During the age of the Deepness, I was a servant.  I ran errands, mended clothing, cleaned messes.  I was tired of the life I lived, of never getting an opportunity to rise from the position I was born into.  I was tired of the Lord and Ladies who mistreated me, who did not recognize the gifts and skills I had to offer, and who cast me aside again and again on a whim or for the sake of convenience.  By the time the world was ending, I was ready, because I thought that at least then I would finally get some rest.  Right up until the end, during that last day when the land was bathed in fire, I was still emptying other people's chamber pots and trying to make soup out of the few rations we had left.  The nobles I was trapped with spoke of all they had lost to the Deepness while I laboured in silence.  The truth was, I hadn't lost anything to the Deepness, because I had never had the opportunity to gain anything more than a few spare coins to my name."

Lutha paused, for effect, and then shared a radiant smile with the crowd.  "Everything changed when he came.  You have all heard of the Lord Ruler's power--his incredible magic and his mighty armies--so you all know to fear him.  I'm here today to tell you why he deserves more than just your fear.  I saw him the day he defeated the deepness, and I've shared his company as he's discussed the new world he dreams of sharing with all of you.  The Lord Ruler is the Sliver of Infinity, and the one true God who saved us all from darkness.  Now, let me tell you all that he can do for you..."

*****

“I don’t have time for games, Dareon.  Refuse me now and suffer the consequences, or accept so we can be done with this.”

Dareon, once a Lord of middling rank from the west before the Deepness and the Lord Ruler changed the world forever, glowered at her from across the table.  Apart from Lutha’s guards on the other side of the door, they were entirely alone in the shell of what had once been Dareon’s family castle.

“I’m serious Dareon.  If the other Great Lords are going to take me seriously, I need a house name, but I can find another one if you are too stupid to take advantage of this opportunity.”  Lutha forestalled his objections with an upraised hand.  It was satisfying to exert such power over a man she had once served.  “This region has stayed relatively free of the Lord Ruler’s influence for now, but only because he has not had time to turn his attention to it.  When he is ready, he will come with his army of koloss, and he will destroy any who defy him.  I’m giving you a chance to be among his inner circle, and occupy a position of power in the new world.  Join with me, and together, the two of us can found a dynasty.  Oppose me, and I will ensure that you and yours will be the first to fall when the Lord Ruler comes to claim what is already his.”

Dareon sunk into his chair, defeated.  “It will take time.  We must arrange a ceremony, and there are traditions to observe…”

Lutha gestured carelessly, dismissing Dareon’s concerns for the trivialities they were.  “Nonsense.  Those traditions and ceremonies belong to the old gods.  The false gods.  The one true God has revealed himself to us, and you will find he is much more practical than the pretenders who came before him.”

Lutha rose and knocked twice at the door, signaling one of her guards to come in with the necessary paper work.

“I’ve folded in the pages you need to sign.  Leander here has been certified to act as a witness.”  The Lord Ruler was still designing his church and government, but Lutha was already taking full advantage of what structures he had begun to put in place.

Dareon looked at the stack of papers in front of him.  “You expect me to sign that Deepness cursed monstrosity without reading it?  I thought this was a negotiation!”

“It was a negotiation, Dareon.  Now that you’ve agreed, it is an agreement.  The terms of that contract were never up for debate.”

Dareon seemed about to argue, but then thought better of it, and reached for his quill.  Once to documents were signed and dated, Lutha flipped through them to make certain everything was in order.

“Leander, see that these reach the Capital immediately.  I will not tolerate any delay.”  Leander bowed politely, and hurried off.  Lutha had ensured that he would have a horse and supplies for the journey waiting and ready.

“Thank-you for your cooperation, Dareon.  Once we’ve made preparations, we can return to the Capital, and have a grand ball in my Keep to celebrate our nuptials.”  Dareon nodded distractedly.  Lutha gave him a moment to digest all that had transpired, before clearing her throat.

“Well, since you are tired, shall we retire to our bedroom for the night?”

Dareon started as he took her meaning.  “You can’t mean… what about your celebration?”

“That’s just posturing, an opportunity to show off our wealth and power to the others.  We were married the moment Leander witnessed you sign the documents.  And as you know, all marriages come with certain duties.”  Lutha stood.  “I see you still need some time process things.  I’ll summon you when I am ready.”  Though Lutha did not entirely relish the prospect of sharing a bed with Dareon, she needed heirs to marry off and forge connections with the other Houses, and she would not let the mutual distaste she and her new husband shared for each other interfere with her plans.

Her other guard, Raen, fell into step behind her as she swept out of the room.  "Shall I escort you back to our camp, Lady Lutha?" Raen's voice was coloured by a hint of frustration that he hid behind the veneer of professionalism.  In another life, Lutha would have counted herself fortunate to allow herself to return his affections and become a soldier's wife.  With her new life, she could never hope to marry a soldier's child to the progeny of a Great Lord.

"Actually, my husband has graciously agreed to allow our entire party to take up residence here in the castle before we return to the Capital.  Please send word to the camp, and keep an eye on that one," Lutha inclined her head in the direction of the room Dareon was alone in.  "I don't want my new husband to get any ideas."

Raen's eyes grew moist around the edges, but his soldier's training held firm, allowing his voice to remain even and firm.  "As you wish, Lady Lutha."  It had been cruel of her to emphasize her marriage while the wounds would still be fresh, but it would be easier this way in the wrong run.  Raen was invaluable to her, and she could not jeopardize their relationship by leaving even a shred of hope in his heart.

Lutha stopped Raen as he turned to leave.  "Raen, one more thing.  From now on, it is probably best that you address me by my family name.  We worked so hard to acquire it, after all."

Raen bowed.  "Yes, Lady Elariel.  Your wish is my command."

Three Actions per turn. You have used all three, though you may still cancel them and choose to do something else instead.

Wait, its possible to cancel? Then mind if I cancel the action where I'm 'testing alloys', to do something useful? I can't quite see the long term benefit when the first turn seems so important - I was a complete idiot to waste all my actions on Day 1, without waiting for everyone else so I could react instead of rushing into things.

You can cancel and change Actions as many times as you'd like, right up until the end of the Turn.

The fall of ash outside his window was still a curiosity to Cyrus, rather than a mundane annoyance. It blew like blackened snow, gusting and floating on fickle winds. Was this all that was left of much of their world, after the Lord Ruler had brought their world too close to the sun? Had it been accidental, as he implied, or had he meant to scorch the world clear of its old trappings, ready to be made anew?

Regardless, the collected works of the noble houses here in Luthadel were a long way yet from matching what had been lost to the Deepness. The world, Cyrus mused, had never been as empty as it was currently. No... that sounded bleak, when he let it circle in his head. Better to say, rather, that it had never been so uncluttered as it was now – with so much of the old order lost, and the Lord Ruler's new world forming before his very eyes, now was the ideal time to put things in order. After all, the Empire would not remain small for long, and any attempt at a system of cataloguing and chronicling would be farcical were it left too late.

Prior to Rashek's return, he would never have considered such a thing – he was not accustomed to leadership, and yet he felt he might acquire a taste for it in time. But in this uncertain time, sowing the seeds of order could potentially have its uses.

Perhaps there were some among his retinue that would have an insight into this matter – if so, he would see that they were justly rewarded...

Who: Cyrus Artorius as House Lord, and any numerically-minded members of his staff that are able to assist him.

What: Devising and implementing a standardised system for record-keeping throughout the House.

Where: Keep Artorius

When: Turn 1, Action 1.

Why: To improve future efficiency and organisation in all of the House's dealings, as well as potentially exporting this system to other interested parties.

The garbled sounds of bustling activity filled the streets of Luthadel, the pounding of hammers, the scratching of saws, shouts and cries and workers and messengers and servants flooded the squares, as the city rapidly grew in front of their very eyes. Every morning the mists would retreat under the unrelenting, fiery glare of the sun, showing the promising progress of the previous day before it was buried beneath the horrible ashfalls, courtesy of the nearby Ashmnounts towering in the horizons, spewing their never-ending smoke and noxious gases.

Gamic had also started receiving reports as more and more refugees flocked to the major city -- the central locus of the New World -- and their reports of the madness and horrors the new world contained. Stories of creatures and monsters lurking in the mists at night, roaming the wastelands and laying waste to all victims. Find had mentioned it seemed that most of the common folk were starting to grow wary and apprehensive of the mists, and the nightmares contained within.

*Ahem*

Somebody coughed from behind Gamic, startling him as he sat at his desk, viewing over said reports and enjoying a sample glass of the newest, highest rated wine in the city, which he spilled all over his newly, fine-tailored suit when he jumped.

"Er- sorry to interrupt, sir, but I have unfortunate news to bring to your attention...."

"Funny to Find you here," Gamic joked, trying to nonchalantly brush off his spill. "Just the man I need to go and fetch me a new suit, I should have had a fresh crate delivered here earlier....." He trailed off noticing his servant's resigned expression. He looked down at the rest of his glass of wine -- about half full -- swirling it for a second and taking a whiff of it before downing it all in one shot. "Spill it."

Find sighed and handed him an envelope, a finely embroidered slip of parchment with a neat and tight calligraphic handwritten invitation.

".....A Ball," Gamic said finally after a moment.

"Yes," Find solemnly replied. "A Ball."

"HOW?!" Gamic roared, suddenly tossing all of the papers and summaries and ledgers off of his desk, causing an explosion of paper to go flying through the air. "First Host was supposed to be my Title! My Prominence! My Glory!" He pounded his hand on the desk, emphasizing each word. He was in a full rage.

"Lord Ruler! Why else do you think I specifically sought out ash-stained good for nothing workers, trying to cater them into reliable servants. Fine clothes and livery -- to be the envy of the Noble Elite -- and the best drinks in the city to keep the guests well entertained and plastered! How could this good for nothing...." He stopped off, snatching the invitation from the silent servant's hands and peering at the name, "....Lady Lutha."

He stood up suddenly, going over to the pile of papers he had just tossed on the ground, riffling through them and muttering and cursing under his breath.

"Guess I won't be needing this anymore," He said after a while, finding the paper he had been looking for and taking a deep breath. On it was a detailed plan for his Secret Ball.

"Good thing I had a Back-up Plan," Gamic said, balling the page up and tossing it in the fire, smiling as he watched the paper crisp and burn as it was consumed by the fire.

****

The next morning, the deep, depressing mists receded as normal with the red sun, and the sounds of life filled the streets of Luthadel once more, and it was another day as usual in the rapidly growing city of Luthadel, center of the Final Empire. The messengers of House Urbain, however; had been busy throughout the night, as 17 House Nobles awoke to startling messages awaiting them. Due to the sudden shortage of supply of paper on the market, House Urbain had had to resort to drastic measures regarding sending out special invitations.

To whomever it may concern:

Greetings, Fellow Lords and Ladies! I, Gamic of the House Urbain, First of His Name and Lord Ancestor of His Family Line, do hereby, Formally, and with All Courtesies, promptly Invite you to First Single Greatest Event in Luthadel's History -- Aside from It's Creation -- Luthadel's Second Official Ball, But the First One Actually Worth Note.

When: To Be Announced
Where: Keep Urbain

Who: Only Whomever Has Received This Message

My Sincerest Thanks and Graces in Advance to those that Attend, as Attendance May or May Not Be Noted.

Sincerely, And With All Pleasures, Officiated and Dictated by Yours Truly, Gamic Urbain

(P.S. Please Tip the Messenger, I'm Sure They Worked Hard On This)

These messages were scrawled on all of the Walls of all of the Keeps of all of the Nobles of Luthadel, painted and stained on in a thick, viscous mixture of water and ash in huge, sloppy letters, with the glaring exception of the walls of the newlywed House Elarial remaining blank, as they were the only Noble House to not receive an invitation.

Hadrian scowled down upon the graffiti that now disfigured his wonderful gray wall. At least everything is already stained so much that it doesn't show too badly. It would be best for everyone once his house could start distributing writing materials to the other houses. However, house Urbain did have access to a large amount of textiles... They were probably too cheap to put out decent invitations even if they did have the proper resources. The ball would likely be lackluster compared to the one House Elarial was holding, but a ball was a ball, so Hadrian resigned himself to a second night of pointless chatter and excessively fancy food. Hadrian just didn't understand why Balls of all things had to be the major political events in the city. Dances should be for, well, dancing. And meals should be for eating.

"Royce! If it ever comes time to hold some such boring social event at our keep, it will be called a 'Council of Lords,' none of this ball nonsense. And don't serve a full meal. Just some snacks so that people focus on the real reason for hanging around and burning through our boxings."

"Certainly mi'lord. I will makes sure every knows that when they visit our keep, the event will be No Fun."

Note: I am cancelling all actions save for trying for an heir (male name: Melic, female name: Mai). On another note, to all my allies, I am renouncing any association so as to maintain a reputation. Your secrets are safe; my new reputation is to be one of neutrality and anonymity. Also, trying to avoid giving names, but the lord who conspires against Walin, has no Mistborn and has an informant on Walin's plans, Erikell will betray you to him without a bribe.

Mennet of House Farrsolin

Mennet sighed, leafing through page after page of negotiations and bribes. A bribe to Erikell, a canal agreement with Walın, a trade with Tekiel... This was getting tedious. Very, very tedious. Lesser houses were queing up to arrange marriages between their children and Mennet's. Greater houses were competing to see who could betray one another the fastest - and Mennet was no exception. He sighed, glancing over the different pages. Messages from lords Aonar and Urbain. Threats from Erikell. Toxic promises from some, betrayals from others that might as well have been announced with a signal flare for all the subtlety they had.

Mennet thought on the latest betrayal inflicted on House Farrsolin. One of the people he had sent the message to had a mouth as big as the Central Dominance for its security, and now his plans were unravelling. Lord Wain knew of his conspiracy, Lord Erikell knew of his betrayal, Lord Walin probably knew as well...

Mennet hissed, crumpling the pages into a tight fist, then scattering them into the hearth. Most of them were still un-read.

His servant walked in and noticed the pieces of ash cluttering the fire. Mennet sighed, then muttered his commands half-heartedly. This was going to be a difficult choice, but all his plans had gone awry.

'Send messengers to Lord Erikell, tell him his bribe won't come. Inform Lords Walin and Aonar that I am cutting ties. Tekiel and Wain can rot in the Deepness for all I care. And tell the coalition that I'm finished with them.' Mennet sighed. That was it... all his associations, smoldering in the hearth. Mennet pointed to a map hanging on the wall, which his servant obligingly carried over. Mennet traced his finger over several rivers. 'And buy up these canals. I want them flowing within the week.'

Action 1

Who? Mennet, in his capacity as House Lord

What? Buying canals and caravan routes to the different dominances.

When? Second action for the turn

Why? To charge others for use of said canals. I will eventually expand to cover the more distant dominances.

Other Notes: Buying two canal routes, one to Fadrex and another through the central dominance

Hi guys, this is Wyrm, but not the Wyrm you're looking for >>.

The actual Wyrm (his Honour) would like me to inform y'all that he's currently without Internet, due to a kerfuffle down on his end to do with his Internet, router, and his ISP. Long story short, he's got a small fix but he's not gonna be able to get online to handle you lot until at least Monday or so, if things go well.

So, sit tight, and happy backstabbing and shenanigans and all of that stuff until normal service resumes! That's all from me.

Other Notes: Unsure how many canals I can buy in one turn, so in order of priority; Central dominance canal, northern dominance canal, southern dominance canal, western dominance canal, eastern dominance canal.

Since Wyrm is unavailable, and I've already asked him about this, I'll c/p my question and his response.

Q: Can we only build a canal from one city to another city on each action?

A: Generally speaking, yes. You could build more canals, but it would cost you more than if it were just one, and there would be an additional 'inefficency' cost.

So you can do it the way your request has it laid out, but it'll be insanely inefficient.

Kyara had been awake for far too long. Between Lord Urbain's graffiti on her Keep and the rest of the drama unfolding around the city (What had happened with Farrsolin? And what exactly was Erikell's role in all of it?), she and Bradek were almost to the point of throwing in the towel, finding a quiet town in one of the outer dominances, settling down there, and ignoring everything going on in Luthadel. But she knew they couldn't do that. They needed to stay to support the Lord Ruler. He needed them. Kyara had been the first step forward and even though she hadn't received a bead in exchange for her loyalty like many of the other lords, she knew it was because those lords needed the bribe to stay true. She didn't. The Lord Ruler trusted her to stay loyal even without additional power flowing through her veins, and she wasn't about to let him down.

Still, she could tell many of the Allomancers looked down on her and the rest for their lack of abilities. They thought they were better than the rest of them. She refused to let their snide remarks make her back down. If they thought she was lesser than them for not being an Allomancer herself, she would prove them wrong. Not through force, as that wasn't her nature. But through sheer indomitable will. She would make her mark.

Who - Lady Kyara Wilson acting as House Lady

What - building a canal route from Luthadel to Urteau in the Eastern dominance

Where - from Luthadel to Urteau

When - Action period 2

Why - To create a trade route for all goods being shipped from the Eastern Dominance to Luthadel.

Sen of House Wair

Sen looked from his balcony at the streets below him. He saw messengers delivering messages between all the nobles. He saw one of his servants busy wiping away the graffiti left by Gamic Urbain. He even spied one of Farrsolin's people, looking anxiously over his shoulder as he strode across the street.

I wonder why Farrsolin was surprised. Nothing can be kept a secret in this city, not anymore.

As for the matter of the ball, Sen had decided he may as well attend both Elariel's and Urbain's; his wife Lark did so love a good dance after all.

There was a small creak at the other side of the room, and Sen turned to see his old friend Olir dressed in bright purple finery.

"The carriage is ready as requested and your guards have been dressed in the most conspicuous armour we could find in the Keep."

Sen nodded, and together they left the office.

The other Houses appear to have forgotten by whose strings they must dance to.

The carriage rolled along, taking an overly long and obvious journey along much of the upper streets of Luthadel. He wanted people to notice him, it was imperative to remind his fellows that none of them were immune to consequences. Not even those so-called Great Houses.

At last, they arrived at their destination. Sen ordered his retinue to stay behind in the carriage and he stepped forth alone onto the mist-covered pavement.

Ahead of him, he saw tall proud spires that stretched until they seemed to pierce the skies. He saw lights flicker in distant windows and an ominous feeling that seemed to pervade the very ground he stood on.

Lord Wair stood before the gate to Kredik Shaw and looked at the guards.

"Tell the Lord Ruler that his servant Sen is here, and wishes to speak with him."

Who-Sen Wair as House Lord

When- Second Action

What- To deliver a petition to the Lord Ruler

Where- Kredik Shaw

Why- To be discussed in private.
