Redoing Fauna and Flora

Weiry, I noticed your note on Coppermind about Sak's species not being "bird". Obviously that's correct, but his species is "Aviar". It's right in the story:

Beginning your visions early, my friend? he thought, glancing at Sak. The Aviar usually waited until they fully landed before bestowing her blessing.

From Kindle Edition, "Location 1618"

I made the corrections on the Coppermind.

Edit: That's not to say Flora and Fauna don't need updating, I just got confused by your remark when Sak is given a species name by Brandon.

The thing is Aviar is not a species either.  "Aviar" describes a bird with magic powers, it's kind of like "Mistborn" or "Misting" in that regard, it really has nothing to do with their species (of which the are multiple that become Aviar).  Like to be an Aviar they have to eat the parasites as chicks, which is why when Aviar's breed outside of the Pantheon their chicks do not bestow talents.  Sak is from a mainlander species which doesn't even customarily become Aviar.

But basically that was a note mostly to the other wiki admins as something we need to discuss in the next staff meeting.

Ah, okay. My apologies.

But are we sure Aviar is not the species? I was under the impression that they were one species, and the people were baffled by the fact that only Aviar born on the Pantheon gained powers.

I'd say we are quite sure given this:

"Is this..." Vathi said, looking to Dusk. "Yours? But of course. The one on your shoulder is not Aviar."

Sak settled back puffing up her feathers. No, her species was not Aviar.

The thing is "Aviar" equals "bird with magic", but (most) people in-world don't understand where that magic comes from. So they look at the chicks of Aviar and wonder "Yo bird with magic, where's your magic?"

I guess there are two different meanings for the word "Aviar". The first meaning, a species of bird native to the Pantheon, refers to any bird of that species whether or not it bestows a talent. An Aviar raised outside of the Pantheon wouldn't have any Invested parasites, so it wouldn't bestow any talent. This would be the common definition for most people on the First of the Sun.

The second meaning refers to any bird that bestows a talent, whichever species it belongs to. Under this definition, Sak is an Aviar, even if her species is not Aviar.

Then again, even the word "species" is ambiguous. There is the definition used in biology (what we've been using so far) as well as the more broad definition synonymous to "type" or "sort". If we follow the second definition, then Sak's "species" being Aviar in the her Coppermind page shouldn't be a problem.

umm Sak is a bird dusk says so in the first chapter kindle book 54 of 896. Dusk calls Sak a black plumed bird. He also happens to be Aviar

Aviar is a class of magical creature

Bird is a class of animal

Species is a little more specific.

Sak

 Kingdom = Animalia

Class = Aves (bird)

Sub Class = Aviar(magical Bird)

Species =Sakathian (because I don't know what kind of bird it is)
