  1. I don’t know if this is quite the right board for this, but I’ll just go for it. The Escape the Shattered Plains VR experience is coming out tomorrow, and since I assume the vast majority of people won’t be strapping on a VR headset to try it themselves, I thought I’d volunteer to try and record a playthrough of the experience, if people are interested in watching it. I’d probably make it this weekend, but given my minimal experience with screen recording and video editing, who knows. The playthrough, if people want it, would likely be just the game’s sights and sounds, no commentary from me. I could do one with commentary and my thoughts and reactions, too, if people were interested in that as well. Maybe someone’s already planning to do this, maybe not, but I figured I’d offer. What do you all think?
  2. We heard Variety report this in May 2017, and we have seen many teasers on Facebook and Twitter. But yesterday, Arcturus officially announced the Escape from the Shattered Plains VR experience. It will be out for the HTC Vive, and it will be released March 2nd for $10.99. In this experience, you'll take the role of Kaladin, meet Syl, encounter a highstorm, use some Lashings, and fight some Parshendi. Brandon says in a statement: "“I am beyond excited to finally be able to present this VR experience of The Way of Kings after many months of long, hard work from the teams at DMG and Arcturus. It’s the first time my fans will be able to experience a thrilling adventure in Roshar and see what it’s like to be in the Shattered Plains.” This short form adaptation is written by Joshua Rubin, the lead writer behind games such as Destiny and Assassin's Creed. You can watch the trailer below: There does seem to be some gameplay mechanics from the trailer, with some sort of rudimentary Lashing system, and some sort of fighting mechanics, but I would not expect these to be extremely fleshed out as they would be in a game. Additionally, if you're not familiar with VR, generally the graphical fidelity is worse than standard games because it has to render more for both eyes. Keep that in mind when watching the trailer. Generally, VR experiences are rather short and are very much not complete games. According to the Variety report (which was in May, so this could have changed), the experience is merely 15 minutes long. This has been in development since March of last year and has reportedly cost "seven figures" to make. DMG Entertainment, the people who hold the movie rights to the cosmere (and, in particular, Stormlight), wanted this made mostly to create hype for Hollywood executives so they could understand how cool Roshar is. I think in that context this makes a lot of sense--it isn't really for us, but if you have a Vive, you can do this experience too.
  3. Judging by the minimal attention that these videos have been getting, I feel as though the majority of the SA fandom are unaware of the Arcturus YouTube channel, where excerpts from the SA VR experience are being posted! I wasn’t sure where to put this, so I’ve stuck it here. (Sorry if it is in the wrong place). Here’s the teaser video, where we can see what a high storm looks like and what Stormlight does to people: Here’s an introduction to Syl: Finally, here’s some Lashing in action: Enjoy!
  4. Hey all, I've just stared to working on some vr experience based on Mistborn ( more specific on Final Empire). This is just really early prototype and I don't know if I find enough time to finish it, cause it most as a hobby for me and for my portfolio. What I was thinking is the experience will start on the roof, the user will see main title, old books on the right to get some knowledge about empire, allomancy etc. Behind there will be doors to lower floor. There on the table will be note from Kelsier, saying that he will be later for training and to start without him, also some vials with metals and coins. After that user will be start training with Iron and Steel. Really basic and not long experience. I'm creating everything for HTC Vive and you can see current progress here: If you guys have any ideas or thought I'm open for any suggestions It's not a game and I won't be selling it, I just want to know what you think about it.
