  1. Does anyone have any good one armed Hazardian jokes? I’m sure the possibilities are endless, but I can never seem to think of any besides the ones in the book. So if you have any, please share!
  2. What makes Brandon's funny characters and humor work for me even when they aren't that funny:
  3. Are you one of those people, like me, who when reading SA, really wants some chouta, because it would be totally awesome? If only chouta existed. Here is what the Coppermind says about chouta: "Chouta is a Herdazian street food. It consists of a thick, fried flatbread wrapped around fried meat and a dark gravy. It is wrapped tightly enough that it can be carried in one hand and eaten while doing other things.[1] The standard meat is flangria, which is mixed with ground lavis, formed into small balls, battered and fried. The chouta stands in Dalinar's warcamp also sell a variety that is stuffed with cremling claws.[2] " That's good to know, Coppermind. But what is flangria? Or lavis? And how on earth will we get cremling claws? Flangria, also from the Coppermind: "Flangria is produced via Soulcasting, which makes it far cheaper than other kinds of meat, although some disdain flangria due to its origin.[1] It is often used to cheaply feed large quantities of people, such as bridgemen. It is fried and used in the meatballs for chouta, an inexpensive Herdazian food. " So... we can't Soulcast, so how do we get it? Lavis, also from the Coppermind: "Lavis is species of plant from the rockbud family.[1] It is an important and ancient cereal crop on Roshar.[2][3] Lavis is grown on hillsides across Roshar. Lavis fields are typically planted in the seasons following the Weeping, when the highstorms are weaker.[2] A mixture of lavis seeds and stumpweight sap is spread across the hillsides. As the dark brown polyps begin to grow, they have to be wormed. Farmers must carefully go over each polyp searching for worm burrows. The worms like sugar, so they can be removed by inserting a reed tipped with sugar into the burrow and pulling it out when the worm latches on. Once the worm is removed, the polyp can be patched with crem. Each field can take weeks to check and it is important to check repeatedly for worms since any worm that is missed results in the loss of the entire polyp. The crop can be fertilized during the worming process.[4] Lavis is a staple food source and is prepared in many ways.[4] A common version of chouta is stuffed with flangria that has been mixed with ground lavis, formed into small balls, and then battered and fried.[6] It can also be fermented into lavis ale or distilled into honu, a hard liquor.[7][8]" Well, yet another ingredient that we cannot find on Earth. So how will we poor humans ever taste heavenly chouta? It seems like we will simply have to work with real-life substitutes. Culinary experts out there, what do you think is the best substitute meat for flangria, and the best substitute for lavis?
  4. I love this board ! Since joining I have read some of the most logical , well thought out theories and discussions concerning the Cosmere. I’m not sure if this thread has ever been discussed ; my apologies if it has. But, I would like to have everyone take a second to list there favorite quips , jokes , one liners coming from support characters only! We spend so much time focusing on POV characters and greater Cosmere theories I feel we are ignoring the gold we have witnessed in Oathbringer. Outside of Wayne from Mistborn era 2 , Oathbringer has the strongest support character humor I have ever read in a fantasy series . Everyone from bridge 4 , Hoid, Nightblood, Rock and The Lopen ( I know they are bridge 4 but the need special mention ). What are your favorite words a support character has to say . Fan favorites won’t get you an upvote (thus no “ no mating or I am a stick “ ) those have been beaten into the ground. I Assure you Oathbringer is Full of 100 more less recognized quips that are just as good ! I’ll go first . My new fovorite line is from Teft. Dalinar Just checked Amaram and told him to basically shut up and follow orders in Thaylan . Teft eases up and says “ Permision to stab him a little Surrrrrr!” Its gold all day . I couldn’t stop laughing . Mostly because you really didn’t expect that from Teft ! What about you guys . What really made you appreciate Sanderson rich support cast ?
  5. Does anyone else think about the Radiants, and/or the Lopen, when Big Wreck's "One Good Piece of Me" comes on the Radio? Specifically the lyric: "Every little piece you take from me, I can always regrow" Any other songs that could be loosely interpreted as being affiliated with the Cosmere?
  6. When the Lopen is visiting the wounded soldier in Chapter 121, he shows him how to open a bottle of beer one handed. I didn't think twice about this the first time though, but on my reread: why would Roshar have metal bottlecaps? How long has that been a thing for us?
  7. This thread is for all of us who mourn the loss of the one-armed Herdazian, but look forward with great hope to the sequel! Here be gathered all two-armed Herdazian jokes. How do you get a two-armed Herdazian out of a tree? Ask him for applause! How did the two-armed Herdazian beat up the whitespine? Using his two fists! Why did the Herdazian need two hands? So he could hold his two women's hands. Where does the Lopen find room for all his stories? On the other hand... So please guys, give me better jokes than these! I'm obviously desperate and sorely lacking
  8. Because he won one of the art polls on my twitter, here's The Lopen!
  9. I was just thinking, and based off of personality alone, I'd think that Lopen would be a Willshaper. I'm not sure, though, so I figured to make this into a topic so that experts that aren't biased could debate it out, too. What do you guys think that Lopen will end up as?
