  1. Um, OB spoilers. So, Cultivation removed Dalinar's memories in order to cultivate him, much like a gardner would remove branches or shoots from a tree that have fouled for some reason in order for growth to happen, maybe to be grafted in at a later date when they could help the tree instead of harm it. So Cultivation starts returning Dalinar's pruned memories, and Dalinar later in the book realizes that Odium intended to return the memories all at the same time, which probably would have overwhelmed him to the point of giving up his pain. So Cultivation had a really smart plot for foiling Odium by using Dalinar. Why the mysterious tenth pancake did the Diagram order Dalinar's execution, and when that failed, removal from power and humiliation? Why did cultivation not try to stop that? If she had the Foresight to cultivate Dalinar in order to be able to resist Odium, then why were her Diagrammists actively trying to subvert what she was working on?
  2. Excuse my rambling nature, but this is something that I have thought about since I first finished Skyward and now that I've joined the 17th shard I would like to see what the community has to say about it. Please keep in mind that as of right now the only books I've read by Sanderson are the Stormlight Archive books and Skyward, so I will most definitely be missing information. If someone who has more experience would add on, I would be very grateful. Also please note that this will have spoilers for both the Stormlight Archive and Skyward. Okay, so my theory essentially boils down to the Stormlight Archive and Skyward being connected in that they were both involved in the war between humans and aliens. As anyone who's finished Skyward would know, the characters are being imprisoned on a planet for their role in a massive war that the humans lost. They are considered dangerous and uncivilized and so the Krell are ordered to not let them leave the planet. And while this seems like a completely different concept than that of the Stormlight Archive (a fantasy series that shies away from anything even close to the technology represented in Skyward), I can't help but see the similarities. My best evidence for this comes from the Dawnchant that was translated in Oathbringer. So this is essentially saying that the first humans to come to Roshar came as refugees because their lands were destroyed. And in Skyward, the humans have been left on Detritus because of them leaving Earth and eventually getting involved in wars. Though I will say that another snippet of information that has caught my attention is the use pf metal in both books. In Skyward, metal parts routinely fall from the sky due to the massive debris layer covering the sky. In Oathbringer, it is also revealed by Tarvangian that a special material has been used in the creation of Half-Shards (the only shield that can withstand the hit of a shardblade). I don't remember what chapter this is from in Oathbringer, otherwise I'd look it up for the full quote, but if any does please let me know. If the people in Skyward and the Stormlight Archive were connected through a common link to Earth, there would be no way for them to know as the desolations wiped out human knowledge so thoroughly in the SA that the only credible sources of their history comes from documents like the Dawnchant. Really the only thing that I can find that doesn't add up to this is the timeline and how Skyward isn't a part of the Cosmere. So obviously I know this isn't accurate to the stories and the connection isn't there, but I couldn't help but see similarities and I thought I'd share.
  3. Hi all, I recently saw Brandon at the London signing and got to ask him the following question: Me: "In Mistborn, we saw that Ruin was able to manipulate writings not written in Metal and essentially alter the prophecy. Has or is something happening to Taravangian's Diagram" Brandon: *Smiles* "Oh, here you go" *hands me a RAFO card*, "Let's just say that seeing the future...is not of Honour" I can't remember if that is the exact wording, he might have said "is not genuinely of Honour". Now the way he said originally made me think that Odium would have been the one who would have the most to prophet from providing a false diagram. But then again apparently Odium is locked on Braize without being able to do any harm. Maybe his influence is still able to affect others. However the other option, and perhaps slightly more likely is that as the Nightwatcher gave Taravangian the power to create the Diagram, and I think that the Nightwatcher is of Cultivation (or even Cultivation itself), so the Diagram is designed to suit Cultivation's purpose. Now if you type Cultivation into google it comes up with 2 meanings striaght away: 1.the action of cultivating land, or the state of being cultivated 2.the process of trying to acquire or develop a quality or skill If we look at what Taravangian is doing, the Diagram is leading him to shape the land or cultivate in it in some way. He also mentioned the possibility of killing off everyone below the average intelligence, which ties in with the 2nd meaning. It got me thinking about other times we have seen the future, and I thought of Atium and how it provides you with a breif glimpse. This is of Ruin who is the main antoganist and I have the feeling from what Brandon said that seeing the future is supposed to be a bad/evil thing or at least related to evil. This would make sense if the Diagram was of Odium but if it is of Cultivation, maybe there is a purpose that we don't understand that perhaps is quite that compasionate to human race. The other mention of seeing the future that I found was in Warbreaker where The First Returned, Vo, saw the 5 visions. I can't remember if we've seen all these visions yet and maybe they're not even related but I'm just throughing it out there for speculation. So to Summarise: We know that the Diagram is not of Honour, and we can pretty much guess that is either being altered or was orginally designed to manipulate. However it's still uncertain which shard it comes from. Would love to hear your thoughts.
