  1. I recently was thinking about the secret societies of the Cosmere: the Ghostbloods, The Ire, The 17th Shard. They all have representatives from one of the important worlds in the Cosmere: Scadrial, Sel, Yolen. They also are all paying attention to Roshar during the events of Stormlight. So the natural question is what is Roshar's society going forward? And if there is more than one, which one will Shallan be a part of or run? There are 3 choices as I see it: The Diagram, the Skybreakers and the Sons of Honor. The Diagram seems like a likely choice given that it was run by a man who Ascended, and he has greater designs beyond Roshar. I actually think this will happen. But as the title suggests, I want to talk about Shallan, and of all the secret societies, she has the least connection to the Diagram. This could be a theory in its own right, but I haven't given it enough thought to do so. The Skybreakers are actually in a weird place. Shallan has a connection to them through her brother and . I think they will be a force in the greater Cosmere. Plus in order for them to travel the Cosmere, they run into the same problem as Shallan and the Ghostbloods: how do you get Cognitive Beings offworld? However, Shallan is not a SkyBreaker and doesn't seem to like following laws much, so I can't see her working with them. An interesting thought is that they may actually be a part of the Diagram, given their current oath to Odium. But I wanted to talk about Shallan, and so we come to the Sons of Honor. Hear me out. I know that the Alethi group was more or less wiped out. But Restares, the person who we are pretty sure is the head of the group, is friends with Shallan and Adolin. He doesn't really seem to care about the organization beyond its goal to get Shards offworld. So I can see him agreeing to cede the title of Restares to Shallan if she solves that problem. It gets deeper though. If we assume that Shallan and Adolin travel together, similarly to Felt and his wife, we get a pretty cool bit of foreshadowing. If Dalinar Ascends, then Shallan and Adolin could be considered "Sons" of Honor. This is a direct parallel to the Ghostbloods being representatives of a Cognitive Shadow. They already have the former contacts of the organization, and could pretty easily take control of the organization, and restore some of the honor to the Sons of Honor. I am aware of the big problem that people seem convinced that Adolin is doomed in the next book. I don't think that really hurts this theory too bad, other than the cool Son of Honor connection. This is my first post, so please give me some feedback and let me know what you think
  2. So, as Gavilar lay dying, he suspected Thaidakar, Restares and Sadeas of being behind the murder. Thaidakar and Restares are bith involved in Secret Societies, something that Gavilar also was. That is why Sadeas name popping up there is suspicious. Either Gavilar just suspects him because he's an oily prick, or because Gavilar knew that he was part of one of the Societies. Another thing about Sadeas is that he knows who Amaram truly is, something few others seems to know. Might this be a lead to show that he was part of the Sons of Honor?
  3. I've been thinking about the Ghostblood's dealings with Amaram, and I'm completely stumped as to what they might want with him, other than using his information to get to Urithiru. In WoK, Amaram assumes that it was the Ghostblood's trying to assassinate him, when Mraize says that Heleran had sought out the Skybreakers (WoR Chapter 88 The Man Who Owned the Winds.) And there's other evidence that shows the Ghostbloods weren't trying to hurt him or have him assassinated: Later in chapter 88, we have the attack on Amaram: Clearly this is Iyatil. But I don't think the intention was for the dart to kill Amaram. I think it's a safe assumption that it was a similar poison on the dart shot at Amaram. Granted Shallan only assumes the poison isn't killing the mink slowly, and just stunning it, but considering the first quote on Amaram, I doubt it was a lethal poison. So why are the Ghostblood's so interested in Amaram? His connection to the Sons of Honor and their motives? More importantly, why were they trying to kidnap him? And what does Mraize know about Amaram's death? Who is it that he's referencing to, and why does Amaram's life belong to them? Edit: I just realized that I made this post when my reputation level was Ghostblood. Unintentional win!
  4. Gavilar seems to be a hot topic of discussion, and what I see most often is people placing him into an organization, and the quick retort that we don't know who he supports, so it is high time we have a thread on the matter. Personally, I do think he is part of the Sons of Honor, despite their proclivity to do nasty things to achieve their goal. First, there are the statements that Amaram makes about Gavilar being proud and blah blah blah is Amaram done talking yet? I don't trust much of what that guy has to say, but it's probably the most direct lines we have on the subject. I think that it's important to note on this line of thought, that Gavilar did seem to have a huge respect for Amaram. They're caught in conference in Jasnah's prologue, and it's even mentioned that Gavilar favored Amaram to be wed to Jasnah. That seems like a large step to take if you're only pretending to be someone's ally. I also want to point out that Gavilar is friends with Sadeas. This might not seem like it relates, but I think it does. Amaram says that he and Sadeas are similar in that the ends justify the means (paraphrased.) While Gavilar could be fooled by Amaram's reputation, it doesn't seem likely, considering he's also such good friends with Sadeas, (I will also concede that it's hinted Sadeas and Gavilar are good friends as well before.) There's also the speculation from the Parshendi that Gavilar was trying to bring back their Gods. (I will admit we don't know what he specifically said to get this reaction from them, but it does seem to weigh in more on the Sons of Honor side.) All that being said, there's still the nagging suspicion in the back of my head that keeps whispering there's too much damning evidence against him for him to be bad. I suspect we'll have to wait for Book 10 and his epilogue to finally close the book on Gavilar Kholin. (Maybe that's why Jasnah was so concerned with having Shallan look through his histories, did she want to figure out his allegiances as well?)
