  1. I am just finishing listening to The Hero of Ages and a particular line hit me - "If (Preservation) has not returned, then has, perhaps, someone else taken up his power to use in (this fight)? Is that not what your teachings say will happen? That which has been sundered must again begin to find its whole." Sazed is talking to the First Generation as they try to decide if it is time for the Resolution. But his words seem to encompass more than just the battle for the survival of the kandra, or even Scadrial, itself. It sounds like a clue as to a role Sazed may very well play in the larger scheme of the Cosmere. I know Hoid has often been referenced as having a much larger role in the greater events of the Cosmere, but we still do not know what his specific plans are. We do not know of a certainty tha Hoid will be "the hero" and fix everything, himself He has plans, but those plans remain in shadow for the most part. Then there is the fact that, next to the Stormlight Archive, the Mistborn series is the largest we know of in the works of the Cosmere. Brandon has shown how he likes to present his endgame in plain sight, even while it remains hidden without a bit of effort on the part of the reader to truly understand it. It is rather easy to see the foreshadowing that has since come to pass when we reread his books, and this has the same sort of feel to me as those other clues. So, in a nutshell, my theory is this - Sazed stands as a foil to Odium and will be the one to take up the power of Adonalsium, restoring all the Shards to One Purpose, become the new god of the Cosmere, beneath the One Beyond. Okay - let's rip this apart now! EDIT: I so forgot to mention the fact Sazed and the prophecies are both of the Worldbringers, and it has been made clear there is something very significant about that.
  2. Ok, here' s my question. Just started checking the forum for reasons why allomancy is so much weaker in Alloy of law. I recall that allomancy had been on the decline for the last thousand years and that the actual strength of the allomantic abilities were weaker than the first Mistborns and mistings. After Sazed ascended to godhood he lowered the requred level of trauma for snapping to occur. Ive read that The reason snapping is necessary is because it wounds the soul and that makes it easier for allomantic powers to manifest. My question is. Is it possible that by sazed lowering the threshold for pain, he inadvertently lessened the chance to become a misting and all but eliminated the chance for someone to become a mistborn. Spook was made into a full mistborn at the end of Hero of ages and became known as the lord Mistborn. It was also stated that he went on to have many children. Its hard to believe that in merely a hundread years, there are no known mistborn (or feruchemists for that matter, despite the fact that feruchemy didn't diminish nearly as much as allomancy) considering that mistborn were still being born 1000 years after they appeared. I believe that when sazed altered the snapping process, he lessened the chance of people becoming mistborn at all. With the large influx of EXACTLY 16 percent of the population becoming mistings because of the mist, (Pure preservation just like the beads of Lerasium) shouldn't allomancy have had an influx of mistborn and misting children just based on the 16 percent alone?? Anyway, its 10.15 and i need to go to bed. Please voice your thoughts as I'm open to anyone else's views
  3. Has Sazed used his healing powers to give himself a penis back at some point? Something tells me that would like the idea of claiming something that the Lord Ruler had assumed would be forever lost to him, but with his whole ascended body thing maybe it never became something he cared about. This is the kind of stupid question that just enters my mind.
  4. From the album Mistborn

  5. So. Mistborn is ruining my life. I've been a fan of sifi and fantasy since I knew what it was. Books, video games, movies everything from lord or the rings and star wars to the Dresden Files. But nothing has ever been as good, fulfilling or as well done as the end of the hero of ages. The first sentence of the first book was already setting up the ending of the last and it was still so well done my first read-through I got teary eyed. The mold that was broken In this series can never be recreated but now when picking up a new book or TV series Im never as impressed as I know I should be because of how amazing Mistborn is. The sense of closure it too much for words. Has ANYONE else had this problem or am I just a nutcase
  6. So this isn't technically a full theory because of lack of evidence, mostly seeing what people think. Fist we have to ask the question, "was Adonalsium always Adonalsium, or did he pick it up." Seriously we need someone to ask that question, and unless Brandon Sanderson decides to visit Turkey, there is little chance of me being able to ask him. Moving on, I had an idea that Sazed would end up being the complete Adonalsium. It just makes sense to me. Unfortunately, because it makes so much sense, Brandon Sanderson will probably not do that. The reason it makes sense to me, is that Harmony is currently getting attacked by another shard, and, if he wins, he would probably take on that shard too. (Although, if he is being attacked by Odium, he would probably need to take a more positive shard too, because Odium and Ruin would probably outweigh Preservation.) Anyway, I think that there will probably end up being another Adonalsium, the question is, will it be Sazed. (If you don't think a new Adonalsium makes sense, please tell me in the comments. I have no problem with my theory being disproved.)
  7. So Harmony is made up of two opposing Shards. As of MB era 2 Harmony is still mostly Sazed, as far as I understand, but over the years his shard's Intent is going to remake him into... something. I see four options as to what that something might be: 1. Ruin and Preservation Intents together pretty much cover all potential actions Harmony might take, so they cancel each other out. Future!Harmony stays Sazed inside and can do whatever he likes. (Pros: Adonalsium was all those conflicting proto-Intents at once. Cons: seems like too much of a narrative free lunch). 2. Pretty much all potential actions fall under either "conflicts with Ruin's Intent" or "conflicts with Preservation's Intent". Harmony ends up not really being able to do anything. He spends future eras basically sitting around on his thumbs. (Unlikely; sounds like a waste of the character). 3. Harmony can only take individual actions that are equal-parts Ruinous and... what's the word? Preservative? Preservation-y? Not technically as limiting as #2 (but still feels like a waste). 4. Harmony's actions have to average out being Ruinous and Preservation-y. So if he wants to, say, save a major city from a tornado, he can do so, but he'll have to cause an equal amount of destruction (either at once or cumulatively) somehow somewhere on Scadrial. (I find this one the most likely, if only because it seems like the scenario Sanderson can do the most with). What do you think? (sorry if I've used the wrong words or spelling; I don't have time to edit this properly)
  8. Hi All! I'm new to the forum, but a long time Brandon Sanderson fan. I love the Mistborn trilogy, and thought it would be fun to create a Lego Ideas project based on it! For those that don't know, Lego Ideas is a platform where users can submit their creations, and if they get enough supporters it could become a real Lego set! Check out the details and such on the official site. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/f33f22fb-ca30-43b5-a46a-6f17bede06ed
  9. In the first book I was having a tough time getting engrossed in the story. Many aspects didn't make sense, it was slow and hard to follow at time. I forced my way through and 3/4 in I was hooked, the second book was an instant grab for me and the end was amazing and I didn't think the hero of ages could be better but I was so wrong. I had posted a bit back about not being able to get into the series but was encouraged to keep going and I'm so glad I did. The last few chapters of THOA for some reason almost brought me to tears it was so good. Never again will I dismiss a Cosmere book...Ever. my point is I know I'm not the only one who had this problem and I encourage everyone who might have put it down to give it another shot, not only is it one of the best endings to a series I've ever seen, to me the end is also a very profound and powerful message. Knowledge is power, Knowledge is divine
  10. shards

So I was inspired by @ShadowLord_Lith and his post about Shards. I wanted to ask this question in a broader forum area. If you were to be a Shard, what would your name be? Also, if you feel inclined, enlighten us on your magic system and world. I would be happy to hear! If I were to be a shard, I would be Affirmation. Magic in my world would be based upon strength of belief, being similar to Soulcasting. If you believe something, Investiture would affirm said thing, making it true. Also, another form of Investiture would be able to work upon the mind, Affirming certain beliefs inside of someone, similar to Soothing and Rioting. I could Affirm certain beliefs to make them stronger, while Dismissing others. In terms of a world, I would have several high mountains, which sat above a shadowed world covered by clouds. Below, your abilities would be far more powerful, due to the planet being undefined, while above, humans lived normally. There would be two types of magic, the mental Affirmations and Dismissals, and the physical Affirmations and Dismissals. As I said above, you can only truly change reality within the lower areas of the planet, the ones below the Godpeaks. So, this would prevent the destruction of humanity before it could develop a set of rules. The further one goes from the ground of the planet, the weaker their physical abilities would become. Conversely, those who possessed mental abilities would grow stronger the further you ascended. After all, creation is impulsive, while belief is built on already created ideas. Creation must come from something unformed, while honing something, that comes from what has been built. The Godpeaks were built by me personally, and as such, can not be affected by physical Affirmation. Someone could only destroy my Affirmation with intense amounts of Investiture, as to destroy an idea, you need a more powerful one.
  11. In Secret History, Harmony had this to say about the Beyond: What would Harmony say about the Beyond now, when thousands of years have passed? Has he learned anything? damnation I want to ask that question or something like it from Brandon. ...is it possible to *sobs* GET VIN BACK?
  12. In the epigraph for chapter 32 of Hero of Ages, it states: As we've seen in Bands of Mourning (and also somewhat in Secret History), whoever holds the shard of Preservation seems to slowly spiral away from sanity and become more and more withdrawn and unstable. Sazed is a prime example of this, forgetting that he probably shouldn't reveal the future and seeming generally really confused. What I'm wondering is, does this mean that the substantial increase in the Mistborn (Twinborn, Misting, etc.) population is not only pulling at his body, but his mind too? Is that possible?
  13. A little thought experiment 1. If a person were to store their complete Identity in a metalmind and lose it, what would be the Spiritual and Cognitive ramifications? 2. Could a person build a totally new Identity? 3. If a person were to build a new Identity and then tap their metalmind, what would ensue in both the Cognitive and Spiritual realms?
  14. Does Sazed (Harmony) have a weaker 'power set' compared to Leras and Atium? He obtained the power after Leras and Ati passed. Technically, he doesn't hold the complete power of the Shards since all/most of the Atium/Lerasium was burned away by Humans in Scadria. What does this mean for Sazed as a god? What implications do you see for the future of the series? It seems like the power of the Shards is slowly deteriorated across each planet... I have read The Stormlight Archives, Mistborn Era 1 and am now starting the Shadows of Self. Also, am I right to assume that Ati's/Ruin's complete power would have given him the power to see the future? If so, what would have been Leras'/Preservation's? Vin was able to 'remember' how Preservation's power was used in the past by Rashek... Lerasium is able to give the power of Allomancy to humans but Vin was able to use all metals to kill the Inquisitors once she took upon herself the mists...

  17. Seriously. As I look through some of the Ars Arcanum for each book, I have trouble comprehending certain concepts, such as the use for Aluminum holding identity. What sort of uses to the more minuscule abilities in the Cosmere have?
  18. So, before I write this, I would like you to know that I have only read book one of the second Era, The Alloy of Law. So, this being said, some events that could occur are not feasible due to my lack of information. (Please don't nerd shame me.) I read somewhere that Brandon was going to write a Mistborn, and my mind was suddenly sent whirling in a series of thoughts about what a Modern Era for the Mistborn world might be. Now, this theory is barring any larger Cosmere related events, staying with Scandrial only. Now, as of the Alloy of Law, there are two main religions of which I know, namely being Pathism and the Church of the Survivor. While all people currently have knowledge of Vin and Elend as the Final Emperor and the Ascendant Warrior, and Spook as the Lord Mistborn, I believe that such facts will fade away with time. By the time that Scandrial reaches modernization, the religions will become almost Abrahamic. Each religion will have common aspects, such as the belief that Vin, Kelsier, Elend and Spook were religious figures, either negative or positive. The Path The modern incarnation of the Path, which we be a modern analogue of Christianity, stating that Harmony is the God above who watches over the people with a specific design for each of them. In order to show the one true "path", the Lord Mistborn emerged as the chosen of Harmony, their analogue to Jesus. Now, as a Jesus-like figure, the Lord Mistborn is credited with being a legendary character who committed intense acts of heroism and helped save Scandrial from the chaotic aftermath of the rule of the Final Emperor, who shall be remembered as one who rejected the Path and Harmony, having restricted the people's ability to follow the Path. Elend and Vin will be turned into chaotic evildoers who sought to bring forth evil machinations and enslave the people. They, alongside those who follow the Church of the Survivor, will be said to have disobeyed the rulings of Harmony, bringing discontent into the lives of those who sought to follow the Path. The Church of the Survivor The Church of the Survivor will have evolved into something similar to Judaism, with the belief that there are some who were chosen by the Survivor, and are descendants of those who are born to survive. However, it is not limited to those who possess the blood of the "chosen". People who wish to join the Church must prove themselves worthy of being a part of the establishment, either by paying a great amount of money, as proof of their "survival capabilities in the modern world", or being a "chosen by the mists"(an allomancer). The Church of the Survivor is based around religious offerings to Kelsier, leaving animals and money within the mist, as "proof of survival". The leaders of the Church will have become corrupt, dealing among themselves the funds for joining the Church, and taking bribes to bless things in the name of the Survivor. Although the Church will have become corrupt, it remains one of the largest religions on Scandrial, due to the high number who had been members of the Church for many generations. To the Church, Harmony is considered a demonic being who represents constrictions against survival, who attempts to sway those from the way of survival and onto the Path of doom. The Order of the Sliver The above name I chose due to not knowing the real name of those who follow the Sliver(Lord Ruler). By the time when the Third Age series begins, the Order of the Sliver has evolved along the lines of Islam, being a largely new and powerful religion, having been suppressed for centuries. Those who believe in the Sliver all agree that their god, the Sliver, had stayed among them for many generations, ruling men and Preserving order. After many generations, however, the Sliver was banished from Scandrial by the Survivor, a false god who sought to usurp the Sliver's place as god of the people. A demonic man who used the powers granted by Sliver to turn the people against him, the Survivor banished the Sliver using evil and Ruinous powers. However, the Sliver raised up two prophets to restore Preservation and end the Survivor. After killing the Survivor, the Final Emperor and the Ascendant Warrior raised the Sliver's empire to new heights, and after dying to defend the Empire, the Lord Mistborn, a second incarnation of the Survivor, used his powers to sway the Empire to his control, and slowly dismantled the Empire. Those who are among the Order of the Sliver do not possess any serious form of liturgy and format for rituals, with each person being called to restore the Empire in the name of the Sliver.
  19. I've been intrigued by this WoB for a very long time. I had two theories but i kinda gets crushed with some thoughts as well. Theory #1 : Sazed didn't actually reclaim the rest of Ruin and left the Atium so that both Shards are balanced. Problem with this theory is that its clearly stated(WoB) that Marsh has the last set of Atium. And we would've heard about the Atium after his ascension but we didn't(or he just hid it really well). Theory #2 : Sazed using that extra chunk of Ruin's power outside of Scadrial. We know shards can poke around things and stuff (we know that Sazed has some knowledge over This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules is going on in Roshar(WoB) since it happened after his ascension ) and that a Shard could possibly influence outside his domain(Mr. Sanderson prolly just meant that through his agents not actually from his touch ) Theory #3: Could also count as theory 2 but to be more specific Sazed is using that part of Ruin's power to test out doing Hemalurgic testing on other cosmere planets. We know this is happening(WoB). I mean he's trying to learn about the Cosmere and he must be spiking people or trying to to infiltrate better and stuff. Theory #4 : It could also be that in a WoB it is mentioned that Sazed is not the seventeenth shard(the one where demoux and those dudes who are chasing) BUT whether he's a member of the organization is another question. Thoughts ? : )
  20. Well, I'm here to ask about Scadrial shards. There are lots of spoiler form Mistborn trilogy, especialy from Well of Asencion and Hero of Ages. Share you toughts about it please.
  21. Finished! Nine characters from eight Shardworlds! From left to right: Dusk from First of the Sun / Kaladin from Roshar / Vasher from Nalthis / Hoid from Yolen / Harmony (Sazed) / Khriss from Taldain / Shai from Sel / Vin from Scadrial / Silence from Threnody This piece is also celebratory art! Happy Chinese New Year 2016 (Year of the monkey)! At first I drew these characters mainly for an online fantasy magazine because they kind of let me (as translator of WoR) introduce Stormlight and the whole Cosmere series in their New Year issue, which meant I’d better add some festival stuff. So here it is - Characters from eight different Shardworlds wishing you a Happy New Year! In China, this is a popular traditional gesture when people give New Year’s greetings. It’s called 作揖 (zuò yī, in spoken language: zuō yī). When you do this, you make a bow with hands folded in front of you and greet others at the same time. Raise your folded hands and then lower them. The motion can be repeated several times. For men, they should use their left hand to cover their right hand (In ancient China, men tended to hold weapon with their right hand, so they covered it when saluting, to reduce hostility and show respect.), while for women, they should do it otherwise and it’s better not to clench the left hand into a fist (You can learn this from the picture above.). If you do it wrong, you will convey some ominous meaning. Please be careful # # # Heck, so many tags! Also seriously, I think we may need a Cosmere crossover art album
  22. I'm reading Alloy of Law and I just thought of something. We know that Preservation tried to help Vin several times, but couldn't because of her earring, right? But why didn't the mists reach out to Elend like they did to Vin at the end of THoA? I mean.... Vin was using Hemalurgy, so I get why the mists couldn't help her. But they could have helped Elend in THoA, right?
  23. If Odium was able to splinter a shard, just how powerful was he? Wouldn't saved be able to easily destroy Odium, since he is Preserving people and yet he is Ruining Odium, and thus the intents are in Harmony? Seriously, I have no idea and all y'all are smarter then me so I'm interested in what you have to say.
