  1. Welcome to the Museum of Cryptics Please follow our guide through Cultivation's perpendicularity. Once on the other side, kindly refrain from touching the petrified lifeforms, as the disease may spread. Follow the guide, and keep a quick pace, as you may have to run from angerspren at some point in the journey. If you are still alive once you have entered the building, present your passes to the Admittance Officer and enjoy your visit.
  2. Not sure what could be spoilers but wanted to warn if you have insight on what to tag would be appreciated. I am able to see the advantages of storing health in gold paired with pewter or gold allomancy and the other types of feruchemical storages, but I think we are overlooking the extensive adaptability of a tin mind and its storages. It is said that a Wind-Whisper can store senses outside of the basic 5 that people posses. If this is true could one perhaps store their sense of balance, or even their enhanced balance that would be granted as a twin born with allomantic pewter? Could they store their ability to sense allomantic pulses that would be granted as a twin born with allomantic bronze? Would a Wind-Whisper who is storing their sense of touch be able to ignore heat, cold, and hunger until their body starts to shut down? Do you think that they could store the ability to sense metals around them, without being able to push or pull on them, that a twin born with either allomantic steel or iron would sense? Could they store the life sense granted by the accumulation of breaths?
  3. Alright, I'm usually not a fan of romance in books. But Sanderson does it so well. If Shallan got Adolin, who will Kaladin get? I had this thought in school a few weeks ago, and wanted to see if anyone agrees with me. Kaladin and Lyn. It's far from a perfect match, but I can see it happening. Anyone else?
  4. I've got ideas for a few questions to ask Brandon at the Oathbringer release. I just wanted to make sure I'm not wasting them by asking questions that have already been officially answered. So can I get some Sharders to double-check these and see if any of them have answers? (Official WOB or canon answers only, including RAFOs; I'm not looking for fan theories.) Also, if any of the rest of you have question ideas, feel free to post them here and we'll see if we can weed out any that have already been answered. (Please note that the nature of this means there may well be unmarked spoilers ahead.) We've been told that the world is flat in Shadesmar, and that if a Radiant tried to sail around the ocean, they'd find a place where their spren would have a lot of trouble continuing because of this. Is the Origin of Storms located somewhere on this this "discontinuity line"? It's an established principle that a person with two powers actually has three powers, because the two can interact in interesting ways to produce a new effect. How does this work with Sazed, who holds Preservation and Ruin? The Diagram cult seems to derive all of their moral authority for the atrocities they commit from literally nothing more than "this is a really, really smart plan." But a big part of their "smart plan" is based on something that seems, on the face of it, really, really dumb: gathering intelligence from the Death Rattles despite knowing full-well that the source of them is a spren of Odium. Have they ever considered the possibility that Odium's side might be aware of this and somehow feed them disinformation? We recently learned that Ettmetal is Harmony's god-metal. Its chemical properties are similar to that of cesium, exploding violently on contact with water. Considering how watery the human body is, this means that any attempt to swallow it, spike someone with it, or even wear it as jewelry will invariably end in disaster, making it completely unsuitable for any use of the Three Metallic Arts. Why would Harmony pick something so... inharmonious? Syl appears to be a windspren at first, but none of the other Radiants' spren look like any familiar spren types. What makes her (Honorspren in general?) so special? Does the word spren originate from the language of the Listeners? Would it be accurate to call Aimians "watchers" in the same sense that Parshendi are "listeners"?
  5. This theory is trying to prove that there is a third shard (other than Ruin and Preservation) on Scadrial. Important Information: Southern Scadrial has Metalic Arts, but they use them in a more mechanical way. Feruchemy is the mix between the shards Ruin and Preservation. Before the Lord Ruler's ascension feruchemy was genetically based and not mechanically based. Allomancy was extremely rare and genetically based and not mechanically based. Hemalurgy was used by some religions and not mechanically based. The Lord Ruler split the population of Scadrial and made the Southern and Northern People. The Southern People now have "mechanical metallic arts". How is This Possible? Answer One: Preservation tweaked the system (possibly when he added the god metals) This could be a possibility, but that would also mean that the Northern Peoples could learn to build something like what the Southern People have. Over the centuries that followed Sazed's ascension nobody has found out about this mechanical metallic art. Answer Two: A Third Shard I believe that there is another shard on Scadrial (when the shard came, I don't know). Feruchemy is not based on one shard, but on the mix of Ruin and Preservation. I think this is what the mechanical arts are. They are a mix of the shards Ruin, Preservation, and a third shard. Summary: At some point, probably after the Lord Ruler's ascension, came another shard that brought "mechanical" investure. Over the thousand years of the Lord Ruler's rain the shard blended its powers with the metallic arts, creating the Mechanical Metallic Arts. The Shards Name: Innovation Shard
