  1. At the end of Bands of Mourning, we get a glimpse of Kelsier telling some people to "Survive". We know that he now has a spike through one of his eyes, and we know that him and Spook were trying to "...find me a new string." So did the spike bring Kelsier out of the Cognitive Realm, or did they have to find a victim for Kelsier to have a new body?
  2. Has anyone else noticed that the device that the Ire had in the center of their fort looked very much like a warning fabrial. Please tell me if I am total wrong.
  3. Hi guys, First things first, this is my first post, but after browsing these forums for god knows how long I finally caught something in the books that prompted me to make that first leap and start a new topic of discussion. I can only imagine, with my luck, it has been discussed before, but I did try and check so I hope that is not the case. So there was a quote in Bands of Mourning where VenDell is talking to Marasi and the group about the Bands of Mourning (13% through on the Kindle version of the 3rd Wax & Wayne book), where he says: While we know Harmony knows Kelsier is at least alive in the cognitive realm, because of their interactions at the end of Secret History, this little line makes it fairly clear that the Kandra must also know about Kelsier's condition, because he only touched the power of Ascension after his "death". It went completely over my head first reading, so I can't blame Marasie and Wax for not picking up on it and questioning how/when Kelsier touched the power - of course, Harmony could have included Kelsiers' role post-death in the Words of Founding, but I find it unlikely given Waxs' shocked response at the end of BoM. This got me thinking, if the Kandra and Harmony both know of Kelsier and his exploits, how closely are they working together? A lot of this is going to be a RAFO situation, but I thought it might be fun to speculate on the relationship between Sazed and Kelsier. I would like to say that its fairly obvious at this point that Kel and Sazed are working together to try and work out what's going on in the areas under Trell's watch, hopefully leading into some bad-chull era crossover crew with Wax, Wayne, Spook, Marsh (who by the way must be an even stronger version of the Lord Ruler at this point), Kelsier, etc., but I might be jumping the gun a bit (see below). If it ends up that they are working closely together (I mean why else would Kelsier be running around a desert 300 years after dying..?), I'm really curious about is whether Kelsier is fully physical again and if so, has Harmony given him back his Mistborn capabilities? Who's 'in charge' as well? I mean, Kelsier was the crew leader, but now Harmony is literally god; either way, Brandon Sanderson will have a lot of fun with that... The real curve ball, though, is a quote from Shadows of Self: That could make it sound like he's not working or talking with Kelsier at all since Kelsier's off on his hunt for a physical body, which I think is unlikely, or him and Kelsier are out of touch (i.e. "since Kelsier left to do 'X'...) for a while for whatever reason. If he's left a while ago to do something that doesn't involve/allow keeping in touch with Harmony (i.e. a spy type thing), what could Kelsier be up to? Infiltrating Trell society? Trying to spark another revolution or something? Tiny bit jumbled and disorganised, but I got the main two quotes and a few of my thoughts down, just about! Thoughts? PS: When writing a post, I obviously don't want spoilers in the title, but how do I make it so that anyone who clicks on it knows that the books contain spoilers from 'X' book, without writing it in the title? Should I just simply be adding a tag for (in this case) Mistborn Era 2 spoilers?
  4. I don't know if anyone has talked about this yet but I've noticed this and I thought I might as well share. So, in Warbreaker, we see that when the Returned come back from the cognitive realm (moving from the cognitive realm to the physical realm), their memories of their previous lives are lost, or at least damaged. Also, in The Stormlight Archive, when spren come from the cognitive realm to the physical realm, their memories are also damaged. So we see a trend that when a person (or entity? I don't know what a spren would be labeled under) goes from the cognitive realm to the physical realm, their memories are damaged. And this is an effect across the entire cosmere, not just on a particular planet, because it happens on two separate worlds. In Mistborn: Secret History, Kelsier is in the cognitive realm. But, it is implied at the end of Secret History that Kelsier has found a way to come back to the physical realm. Also, in Bands of Mourning, we see someone (almost definitely kelsier) in the coppermind given to Waxillium by Hoid. So, Kelsier has traveled from the cognitive realm to the physical realm. Does this mean that, like in Warbreaker and The Stormlight Archive, Kelsier has lost his memory? This would mean Kelsier's activities in the second mistborn series are performed with little to no memory of his previous life, unless he has found some way to counteract this effect. This raises some interesting questions. How do others, such as Hoid, who travel using the cognitive realm, retain their memories? What about Soulcasters such as Shallan and Jasnah, who briefly visit the cognitive realm? The only link I can make is that the person must actually die and become separated from their body for them to lose their memory. However, this doesn't explain why spren follow this pattern as well. Also, something I just thought of while writing this, how did Kelsier get his old body back? Unrelated, but still interesting. If you have anything to add, or if you have a theory or know the answers to any of my questions, please reply. Thanks!
  5. Alright, this is my first post, and I don't know how to work with spoiler tags or proper quoting, but I have a pretty good theory to propose! There will be spoilers for WoK (mild) and Mistborn: Secret History (strong spoiler), so prepare, or leave, as you see fit. To the Theory! First relevant quote: Now, Brandon said this wasn't necessarily important, but I think it is. Sanderson rarely includes this much detail for something with no importance, and the fact that it was RAFO'ed means there's something more there. [spoilers!] Reading Mistborn: Secret History, we see another sphere that reminded me of the sphere in the pouch the Radiant had: the sphere the Ire has, that can capture the power of a weakened Shard and contain it. This made me think of another quote, about the black sphere Gavilar has in the beginning of WoK: (Emboldening my own.) "Something like that." I don't think think Odium invested in the sphere, but rather part of his power was taken from him and placed in the sphere. I thought of this largely when I saw this question: Odium is referred to as the "Broken One", in the epigraphs. How is he broken? I propose he was broken by the Radiants stealing a portion of his power using the sphere--possibly given by the Ire?--shown in Dalinar's vision. With the power of Odium in it, it turned black, and became the sphere Gavilar had. This would explain why Gavilar needs to keep the Sphere out of Parashendi hands. If they give the sphere to Odium, breaking it as Kaladin did in Secret History, and giving the power, Odium might become un-"Broken". This might even show why there hasn't been a desolation in so long, as Odium is Broken and doesn't have enough power. It seems difficult to prove or disprove this with the amount of information we have now, but it feels right, and it seems like a Sanderson thing to have! Also, thanks for enduring my first post.
