  1. Hello and welcome to the Alleyverse! This is an extensive guide to the Alleyverse RP, and is mostly a collaboration from me and AonEne, with stuff being taken from other older threads. With the RP being active again and there being a lot of people newer to the written FFRP (freeform roleplay) scene, we're putting out this thread on rules and guidelines for roleplaying. We've taken and updated some content from previous guide threads, in particular this one - many thanks to the mods and members who have written or contributed to these over the years! Over the Eras of the RP, the format and rules of the Alleyverse have often changed - for example, if you read old guide threads, the duel format has been removed and character creation has been revamped several times. This should be the most up-to-date source of guidelines and worldbuilding and older ones may include outdated information (as may the Alleyverse Wiki on Fandom). This thread is meant to be fairly extensive, and hopefully of use to those currently RPing or those interested in RPing. If you have any questions, suggestions on what to add, or rules and guidelines that you are unsure or confused about, please let us know! The most active Alleymods are @Koloss17 and @AonEne, but questions can also be addressed to @Voidus and @ZincAboutIt, or to the Alleyverse community server on Discord. The Alleyverse Recent History There's actually a pinned thread about this, which I recommend checking out! It'll be constantly updated as the plot progresses. Character Creation Roleplaying- The Format Other Rules All normal rules for the 17th Shard apply; for an extensive list please see the general Code of Conduct. The Alleyverse also adheres to the 17th Shard's RPG rating. If you're ever unsure if something is appropriate or allowed, just ask! We're always happy to address any questions or concerns. If you notice something that may be a breach of the site rules please use the report option on the post so that someone in the staff can look into it. The primary goal of this and any other RP is the enjoyment of the players. Don't be afraid to speak up if another player's actions are stopping you from enjoying the game, but keep in mind that the other players need to enjoy the game as well. Try not to railroad the entire story and make yourself the only hero or derail the story threads of other players. Communication is key here, make sure you talk to people if you're not sure about a major decision! No Godmodding Be Patient Canon Compliance Guilds Further Worldbuilding These are the present-day city districts and some of the locations that have been established in Alleycity. Many other locations have existed or still exist but are not listed here. City Districts Keep in mind that these district descriptions have been pasted over from a much older thread, so the descriptions of the areas aren't necessarily accurate. For the time being, I will allow some alterations to the districts, and I will update them when larger events occur within them. Specific Locations Here I am going to include some of the newer locations to mark a newer era. Something to keep in mind is that you can almost always set up a new building, as things can change drastically era to era. In fact, worldbuilding is greatly encouraged! Interacting With Others Now, all of this formatting and such is nice, but it really doesn't mean anything unless you have someone to roleplay with. The Chat Thread, Collaboration Thread, or any of the guild threads are great places to talk about and set up roleplaying opportunities. When you've gotten in touch with someone, communicate closely with them, as you don't want to write up something that would be difficult for the person you are roleplaying with to add on to, or put in information that the other person (or people) would disapprove of. This is especially important for making major plot developments such as starting up a fight or moving locations. Now that you know the gist, get out there and make a character! Find a person or group to roleplay with! Discover the wacky world of the Alleyverse! And again, feel free to ask questions! I sincerely hope that you come to love the Allyverse and its world just as much as we do.
  2. Well, as the era is progressing, I thought it would be smart to make a post summarizing the huge number of pages of RP. This will cover the nitty gritty, the simplified plot thus far, and what a denizen of the Alleyverse would likely know. This post will be updated as the plot continues. What someone that has just entered the Alleyverse would know: What someone who has been in the Alleyverse for a while would know: A meta cheat sheet summary of the current plot: A nitty gritty summary of each of the events in chronological order: There are of course side plots, and things slowly unfurling, but that is all you need to know to get started! Of course, you can choose to completely ignore the current going-ons of Alleycity in pursuit of something completely different for your character. So long as you get at least one person to roleplay with, you are good to go!
  3. Greetings denizens! Our old guide to the Alleyverse thread has fallen a little out of date so I'm adding this to give some additional information on the various districts and locations that have been established around the city. We do have a collaborative Google Doc which is where this is sourced from and will probably be kept a little more up to date, PM myself or one of our other lovely mods if you'd like a link. We also have a thread on our Discord for people to discuss worldbuilding so if you'd like to help build the details of the city or the wider Alleyverse pop by there. This is a work in progress but hopefully people can use some details from here to help flesh out both their scenes and their backstories. 4. Welcome! This topic is intended for new players or people who are thinking about joining the Alleyverse, or possibly just people who are curious as to what the deal is with these cookies. If that sounds like you then prepare yourself for the insanity that is the Alleyverse, if that doesn't sound like you then maybe just keep reading anyway and see if the madness convinces you to join. What is the Alleyverse? The Alleyverse is a Free Form Role Playing Game (FFRPG) played on the forum. It takes place in the Alleyverse, a universe where all of Brandons worlds and magic systems coexist. Hemalurgic monsters exist, as do Elantrians, Mistborn, Chasmfiends, Knights Radiant, Awakeners and a few poor saps trying to rebuild a city that we destroyed. Worldhoppers from all over the cosmere and beyond journey to the Alleyverse to interact with each other and the local guilds (More on them later). Players create characters within this universe and interact with each other in a group Role Play and collaborative story. How do I get started? Well if you have any specific questions feel free to ask them here and one of our moderators will try to answer them for you. But if you want to dive right into the deep end then you can try creating a character profile for yourself in the character creation thread and some of us will give feedback and help to workshop the character so that it can fit within the greater world of the Alleyverse. We also have a chat thread where a bunch of random discussions take place so it's a good idea to introduce yourself there so all the other players can know that you exist and say hi (Most of us don't bite). If you're curious about the world of the Alleyverse and want to learn more about it we have a 'Guide to the Alleyverse' thread here that has some more detailed information about the world, or we also have a wiki! And... That's more or less it. I'll have some frequently asked questions here that will hopefully grow over time, if you have any further questions feel free to ask us below. I hope you enjoy the rabbit hole of chaos and madness that we affectionately call the Alleyverse. FAQ Q. What is the deal with these cookies? A. Well this one is sort of on me, way back in the dark ages there was a poll on the forum for what your favourite magic system was, I replied that my favourite was Hemalurgy (Because it clearly is) and someone jokingly replied that I should be added to a list of 'people to avoid in Dark Alleys'. This was the unofficial birth of the guild known as the DA (Dark Alley). Now at the same point in time I also had a habit of sending people pictures of cookies when I was making theories, to bribe them into agreeing with me. Someone joined these two ideas and suggested that I was secretly putting Hemalurgic spikes into the cookies I was handing out and I played along until it eventually became associated with the DA. So now we occasionally hand out 'cookies' to people in introduction threads as our way of welcoming them to the forums and possibly gaining new test subjects recruits. Q. Someone told me not to eat the cookie. A. Well that's not a question but even so: don't listen to that person. Cookies are amazing and anyone who suggests otherwise is wrong by default. (Though there is a small chance that you'll lose your soul if you eat the cookie, but trust me it's worth it) Q. What are these guilds? A. Well that's a long and complex subject but basically most players and characters in the Alleyverse belong to a guild, these guilds each have different motives, resources and levels of affection for cookies. If you want to hear more about the guilds you could look in the Guilds section in the wiki for more details, or ask in the chat thread if anyone is recruiting. More to come when I'm a little less tired and when we have more questions being asked. *Note: Can our more senior players please avoid posting here unless a new players question has gone unaddressed for a while, in order to keep this simple and short I'd prefer if responses here were limited to new players and AV moderators.
  5. Hello everyone! For a little while now, I've been planning to make a fun project. It is (Drumroll) a guide to investiture! Wait, it said that in the title? Whatever. Basically, I've searched many a time for things similar to this, and have found no results. I am going to change that, and have been planning for a little while now, so here it is! Click this link and you can comment, if you want full editing powers, PM me and ask! Please note it is nowhere near completion, so I would really appreciate anyone's help!
  6. Hey Everyone! Just going to post a clear and simple guide to tell how to create threads, why to create threads, and which threads to join. Here we go: THREAD CREATION: Creating a thread goes like this. First, Decide what you want the alleyverse thread to be, the main three are: Guild, Location and Discussion: Guild: Character RP is allowed, but does not always happen. (See threads: TUBA, Canton of Combat, People you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley) Location: This is specifically an RP thread. Set in one location. If someone posts in character in a location thread. They can't post with the same character in another location thread without first leaving the location, characters can't be in two places at once. (See threads: Waystop, Devaan's training ground, Tomb of the forgotten) Discussion: There is NO RP CHARACTER RP in these threads. (See threads: Alleyverse characters, Alleymemes) Now you know the main three thread types, here's how you make them: A GUILD thread is made by creating the thread, choosing the title (usually the name of the guild) and tagging the thread with the "guild" tag. You then type out the introduction post (usually a summary of the guild, and how to join) and letting others join the guild! Pretty simple! A LOCATION thread is a little more complex. First, create the thread, then title it what the place is called (EG: Elendel Basin) and tag it with these tags: First, tag it with "RP" Then, tag it with "Location" Then, tag it with whatever era the location is in. At the time of this post that would be "era 2" Then, tag it with it's plot relevancy. One of three: "Main plot", "Side Plot", or Character development "CD" Then make a post with your character (or an NPC that you have written for the location) and give a brief overview of the location. A DISCUSSION thread isn't that hard. all you have to do is title it, then tag it with "discussion" and "OOC" (Out of character). Then post an overview of the thread, and discuss! JOINING A THREAD: Joining a guild thread works by simply talking with people either in or out of character. Joining a location thread involves having your character exit the previous location thread, then arrive on the thread. Joining a discussion thread is just by discussing with people. On the thread. thats it. FINAL THOUGHTS: I would like anyone who has made existing threads to tag them with this criteria, it will help differentiate the threads. if anyone has any questions, comments or concerns, just post here and I'll respond ASAP.
  7. So I've been wanting to get into the world of the reckoners RPG for a while now, but I've been confused on how to begin. It looks so dark, and creepy, and..... pony-y? So I was hoping that some veterans of the thread could come and explain how to get started, and how the RPG works. You know, as a kind of, "It's dangerous to go alone, take this," kind of thing. A big thank you in advance to all those that do share their wisdom here, and I hope this thread helps everyone, or at least many, people who wanted to RP, but were to afraid to ask. Or did ask. Them too. Know what, everyone can read this if they want to.
  8. Hello my fellow Sharders. Below is a list of frequently asked questions and their answers. Spoiler-wise, there is one post for every major Cosmere series, with each post following the normal spoiler rules (spoiler tags for referencing another series, embargo period for new releases) and the Cosmere section will be essentially a free for all except for the aforementioned embargo period. This post simply serves as an index. Index: -Cosmere -Mistborn -Stormlight -Warbreaker -Sel (Elantris and The Emperor's Soul) We are always looking for contributions, though I would prefer that you post on the individual submission threads (Cosmere, Misborn, Stormlight, Warbreaker, Sel) rather than here, just so that everything can stay neat. For a more comprehensive and in-depth look at all things Brandon, why not head over to the Coppermind wiki? Other resources include: Cosmere 101, Theoryland Database
