  1. Here's another "fun" topic- let's say you have a non-Invested human champion you want to fight for you. You can give them up to three Hemalurgic spikes containing any combination of Allomantic and Feruchemical power. What are those powers you're giving to your champion? I'll start with one a bit different than normal- I'll forego the obvious my standard choice of F-gold and go for A-steel, A-iron, and F-iron. They'd be the ultimate master of Pushing and Pulling, able to use metals in an offensive manner and to quickly move across the battlefield. The main counter to Coinshots is to have a Coinshot or Lurcher of your own to deflect all their projectiles, but this Hemalurgist could easily counter them by tapping weight and either smashing them with the force of their own Push, force the metal projectile through their Allomantic defenses, or with Lurchers just squish them in their own armor. They could also shove heavy metal objects around to act as barricades or to smash opponents. EDIT: it's era 2 Hemalurgy, so no Compounding.
  2. Fullborn versus unchained bondsmith! Running is not an option. Fullborn: Has access to infinite metals but no atium but if he wants to compound he has to do it during the fight. The metalminds can be filled a small bit before the fight so they can compound it. Bondsmith: Have bonded a spren. Have spent a long time studying their powers and have no boundaries. Who will win and how?
  3. So I was thinking more about the surge of Illumination, and we really haven't seen anything like the full combat potential for this surge yet. I think Illumination can be used both Defensively and Offensively. One of the big advancements in understanding for this surge during OB was that an illusion could be affixed to a gemstone, this opens up a ton of more possible uses for this fascinating surge. Here are some possible uses: The Combat Flash Grenade: We know that Shallan can manipulate light with her surge of illumination, we also know from the scene in WoR that she can have moving, animated illusions affixed to Pattern, and from OB we know that she can affix illumination illusions to gemstones. Combining all of these, I present to you the combat flash grenade, a complex predefined illusion that starts out as normal sphere and cycles to a state of extreme illumination (depleting the stormlight of the sphere). The effective radius of this combat grenade would probably be dependent on the size and quality of the encased gemstone (an emerald broam would probably be the best). But if Shallan sketched this sequence once in her sketchpad she could essentially (with a bag of spheres) blind the entire front ranks of an attacking phalanx of troops: The Archery Blind: Like the flash grenade, a simple illusion could be attached to a gem and given to a team of archer's. This gem would have an illusion of a natural looking rock formation, and if the archery team was positioned before the enemy troops got a good sight line on them, they would essentially be firing from a place of concealment, giving them an advantage when the enemy archers begin returning fire (this could also be combined with a natural cave, giving the archers a redoubt when the enemy has discovered their location). The yellow part of the illustration is just highlighting the portion that is illusion: The Burmese Tiger Trap with Pallisades: This is a pretty self explanatory defensive strategy, dig a pit, put some pallisades in the bottom, then cover the top with a seamless illusion. Wait for the enemy to fall in. Simple. The Heartbreaker: Given that Shallan can create sound waves with the use of her surge of Illumination, and that they are specific enough that (at least this is implied) she can modulate the frequencies of these waves well enough to imitate voices and other sounds, it stands to reason she has enough control over these generated sound waves to create sound waves of specific frequencies. So with enough research (which I'm sure Navanni would help her with) she could by trial and error discover the resonant frequency of sound that would be required to shatter the Fuzed's gemhearts. This has lots of advantages, because soundwaves propogate through matter, and can be used from a distance this would be a good way if properly deployed (maybe even with Fabrial technology) to take out the Fused. This is a lot like the DARPA project to find the resonant frequency of human eyeballs to disrupt enemy combatants vision (which actually was a project) to create a long distance sonic weapon, and some sonic weapons used to disperse protesters. Similar in operation to how the correct resonant frequency can destroy glass, Shallan with enough research could find the proper frequency and amplitude to shatter Fuzed hearts from a distance: I'm sure these are just the tip of the iceberg, what else have you guys got?
  4. Okay, a really simple forum topic that we can do to pass the time till oathbringer releases, DeathBattle is obviously a cosmere version of the youtube series of the same name. We pick two characters, with no holds-barred, just who would win in a fight to the death. I'll start you off with 3 (If you are arguing about a battle please make sure you qoute JUST the selected fight and NOT the entire message) - The Lord Ruler (After he loses Ascension power, basically just a lersaium fullborn) VS Szeth-Son-Son-Vallano (with a nahel bond to what we assume MAY be nightblood) - Odium (Rayse) Vs Ruin (Ati) - Vin (Pre-Ascencion, No mist-burning) Vs Lift (I do not know much about Lift as i haven't read "Edgedancer" yet but i know about her magic) -- Please note that all battles will take place on a perfect replica of yolen, same size, gravity, and other cosmere standards. take the gravity differences into account, as roshar has relatively light gravity, and scadrial has quite heavy gravity, meaning Scadrians will be faster and stronger, while Rosharans will be weaker and slower (not by much however, it isn't a HUGE gravity change) UPDATE: the third three battles have been resolved! The Winners Are: - It's a tie! neither one has the full capabilities to kill the other! - The Girls win this one! Jasnah has a close-ranged insta-kill in the form of soulcasting and vin can 1v1 any of the two! - Spook Easily Beat Adolin! It's pretty clear a shardset is no match for a mistborn TOURNAMENT EVENT! PLEASE PAY ATTENTION! IT HAS BEGUN: here are the contestants! Tournament Entry’s: The Format Goes like: Contestand - Person who submitted it (Coach) - Native planet Marsh - Winter Devotion - Scadrial Vasher - Zodiac - Nalthis Arclo - Cloudjumper - Roshar Raoden - Asterion137 - Elantris Vin - Taliax - Scadrial Kelsier - Toaster Retribution - Scadrial Jasnah - Agent34 - Roshar Kaladin - Idealistic - Scadrial Elend - Nohadon - Scadrial Denth - Nathrangking -Nalthis BRACKETS: (These were completely randomized, i used a random number generator numbering the characters 1-10) Kaladin Vs Arclo Vasher Vs Raoden Marsh Vs Jasnah Vin Vs Denth Kelsier Vs Elend GOOD LUCK TO ALL, THE WINNER GETS TO FIGHT A NON-COSMERE THREAT (And the coach get's bragging rights)
  5. This is going to be a bit dense so be warned but I believe there may possibly be a very powerful application of bendalloy and even cadmium in combat for a mistborn that has not yet been explored. Pulsers and Sliders have the powerful ability to dilate time by burning there respective metals. We are talking time dilation to massive degrees. However there have been limitations shown thus far that prevent these abilities from being used practically in combat, these few limitations being: The user is affected by there own ability, for Pulsers this means that their time is slower like everyone elses The user cannot leave the bubble, preventing them from throwing down a cadmium (slow mo) bubble as a trap for example Any objects that come into contact with the "membrane" of the bubble is affected in adverse ways (usually disorienting people and refracting the trajectory of projectiles), preventing those within the bubble to interact with those outside and vice versa The third point is described in the mistborn adventure game as: It can assumed that this current is random and constantly changing based on the unpredictable ways in which objects are cast askew With that in mind, this third point may be exploitable. So far we have only seen how physical objects interact with the membrane, but what if the thing passing through a membrane is more of a force, an allomantic force to be more specific? For example what if a mistborn within a bendalloy bubble tried to pull on a metal outside of their cast bubble. Mistborns can only pull metal so if the membrane was to interfere with the force it is possible that the mistborn would be pulling something that is not metallic, since that is not possible I have absolutely no clue what could happen if it is affected by the membranes "current" On the other hand if this theory is correct and that only physical objects are affected by the membranes "current" then the allomantic force being acted upon the metal outside of the bubble could be increased exponentially! To put numbers to it, say for instance a mistborn cast a bendalloy bubble that dilated time by a factor of 10. This means he/she is experience 10x more time than those outside the bubble, every 10 seconds to him/her is one second to those outside. If the mistborn is able to enact say 100 newtons of pulling force per second on a metal, then this would translate to 100 newtons per 0.1 seconds on a metal outside of the bendalloy bubble (as their time is much faster and he/she can apply 10 seconds worth of force from within the bubble per one second of time outside of the bubble) This would mean that the allomancer in question could theoretically apply 10x as much force to the object per second as they were able to before! With this in mind this is not free power, the allomancer in question is burning metal at 10x the theoretical rate to do so, burning metal for 10 seconds for every one second of time experienced outside of the bubble The applications for this would be mind boggling, imagine if you will a coinshot within a bendalloy bubble, pushing on an object outside! And we thought crashers could do some serious damage! The same effect could be theoretically achieved by an outsider trying to influence metals inside of a cadmium bubble. Whether you agree or disagree all thoughts are welcome (as all are part of the fundamental process of the scientific method), I hope you enjoyed the theory, and I can't wait to hear your opinions!
