  1. Hey all, I am working my way through my reread of The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance in preparation for release day, and I have stumbled upon something I thought might be noteworthy, but could be entirely coincidental. In the Axies interlude of WOK, it is mentioned that one of the many things that separates Axies, and Siah Aimians in general, from the human population is that their shadow extends towards light sources, not away. In Jasnah's prologue for WoR, when she is having what may well be her first interaction with Ivory, she notices her shadows extending toward the light, not away. This causes her no small amount of panic and terminates in her first(?), unintentional trip into Shadesmar. Does this indicate a relation between Siah Aimians and Elsecallers, or is Ivory (who always, so far, appears ink black in the PR) non-verbally trying to teach Jasnah that she has a link to Stormlight by extending himself, disguised as her shadow, towards the gemstones? Or is it somewhere in between?
  2. Axies is pretty fun, and has appeared in both WoK and WoR.Do you guys think we will see him in Oathbringer?
  3. From the album: crab land

Trying to pin down my design for this dude
  4. So I just finished a reread of tWoK and WoR and it occurred to me how little information is given on Axies the Collector. He has his own interlude in the first book where we learn: 1. He's Aimian 2. He's a scholar documenting spren 3. He goes to jail a lot (presumably while searching for spren) 4. His shadow points the wrong way (like Jasnah's) 5. He can write on his own skin (or rather make his skin write on his skin, if that makes sense) 6. From the two interludes he appears in, he seems to have a good sense of humor, or at least is optimistic I've been trying to speculate his purpose, I mean obviously he is documenting spren, but I'm trying to figure out how he will play into the rest of the SA. He not only appeared in tWoK, but as the Aimian who was captured on the Reshi Island Greatshell from the Rysn interlude in WoR. I feel like Brandon would only have included this if Axies turned out to play some sort of role in the series. That being said, I have no idea what his role could be. Hopefully others might be able to shed some more light on his role. Also, I've been thinking about his ability to change the markings on his skin at will; also, his shadow points the wrong way, which indicates a strong connection to shadesmar (as shown through Jasnah, or at least that's the public consensus). So my theory is, like soulcasting, Axies is able to change what his body thinks of itself through shadesmar and can thus change the markings on his skin. In essence, he would have a very strong ability to control what his mind thinks in the cognitive realm. All this is just speculation, but I would love to hear more information and theories from others about Axies. He's a huge enigma in my mind and I can't help but think he's going to play a major role at some point in the SA.
  5. LG19: Twinborn City After seeing your peaceful village collapse- literally- with infighting and treachery, you fled to a nicer place with many companions. You attracted other twinborn with your promise of equal rights for everyone with allomantic and feruchemical powers. Although you had to exile a few dissidents, it's been quiet here. But then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. you found a dead body in the city, stabbed through the heart. Were you the murderer, or will you be a victim? There's only one way to find out. Factions Day and Night Map Actions Items Powers Allomancy Enhanced Allomantic Powers Feruchemy Kandra Blessings and Info Very Rare Occurrences Quick Links If you were in LG11, most of the rules will be familiar to you, however, a few have changed. Kipper and Elbereth and I are GMing this game. The game will start one week after this was posted, on Tuesday 29 March. Rollover time will be determined then or between now and then.
  6. The obvious reason for posting "bad idea" theories is to promote "good ideas." Maybe this crazy theory will trigger someone smart to make a better guess. We already know the Listeners can change their forms. Aimians are another "non-human" race on Roshar. We know Aimians can change their appearance (Axies' tattoos) at will and have other weird properties (shadow facing wrong way, etc.). Larkins come from Aimia. What was one doing way up in the Reshi Isles? And we know Axies was captive there. Perhaps there are more clues which stem from Vstim knowing when it was the right time to make a trade with the Reshi, and Rysn got something even better. Perhaps the original trade agreement would have involved taking Axies in his humanoid form as a slave, and getting him in Larkin form was an unexpected surprise?
  7. This Theory focuses around the voidbringers and their apparent nature, it seems that the voidbringers we have seen so far are Parshendi/Listeners, that have bonded Voidspren. now this changes their likeness and even changes the way they see the world. mistborn spoiler: Now the Parshendi are able to bond the Voidspren because of there obvious closeness to the cognitive realm. In fact they depend on bonding an ordinary kind of spren to gain any form of sentience. The conclusion that this closeness to the cognitive realm is what makes them voidbringers has lead me to a separate theory. And that is that the Parshendi were not the only race to get sucked into Odium's army during the desolations, I believe that the Aimian's are also capable of becoming voidbringers. I think this because in our only chapter that we see from an Aimian's perspective, Axies the collector, we see an obvious closeness to the cognitive realm in his ability to change his appearance with thought. I believe that some of the more dangerous voidbringers were actually Aimian's I say this because a Parshendi needs a spren to change it's form, an Aimian can do it at will (to a degree). I also think that this is also the cause of the general dislike of Aimian's, I know that Axies says that it is just because they are different, but i think it is actually a dislike that has been built into Rosharan culture due to the Aimian's connection with the desolations. well that's all I have, I would link quotes to Axies' chapter but i feel that the whole chapter is pretty relevant to my theory so if you want to investigate, just read it.
  8. During my reread of WoR today, I happened upon this little gem while Kal is in prison: (Ch. 62 "The One Who Killed Promises") Sounds like Axies' incarcerationspren to me. I guess he's never seen them because he's never been imprisoned in the Alethi Warcamps. (Or maybe its because of the differences between how he and Kaladin Cognitively interpret imprisonment, but that's a theory for another day.) Are there any other neat references back to The Way of Kings that you've noticed? (Sorry if people have already noticed this, it didn't appear in any of the searches I did.)
  9. So, I've been doing my TWoK reread, and found this interesting connection to Jasnah/Shadesmar: From TWoK Axies Interlude: And from Jasnah's perspective the night Gavilar was assassinated in WoR: Granted, Jasnah's shadow was pulling towards Stormlight, whereas Axies was casting his shadown the wrong way in sunlight, but I still think there is some sort of connection here. Possibly because Axies is studying the spren? Does the fact that he is so "involved" with them provide him with some sort of access to Shadesmar? Do you think he might have his own spren bond starting? I wonder if this is an Axies trait, or an Aimian one? Just wanted to throw this out there and see what y'all think?
