  1. We know Slivers can choose to stay Cognitive Shadows for however long they want instead of going to the Beyond. But would this apply to Vin and Ati after they collided Shards? Before Secret History, I thought that their minds had automatically gone to the Beyond after the collision. But Secret History shows this didn’t happen and based on what we know of Slivers, they should retain their powers post collision This also creates another question. Let’s say no one besides Vin and Ati were around Preservation and Ruin post collision. Could they just run over to their Shards and get back in the driver’s seat? If they did, would they be able to replace their missing bodies? Would they be even weaker than other Shards by being bodiless Vessels? And for that matter, if two Shards are of perfectly equal power, can a Vessel with more mass or whatever equivalent in spirt and mind gain an advantage over the other? Kinda like how two people burning pewter cancel out? I’d think that even if you could convert mass, Shards require more to shift their relative power levels. Like having two lakes and saying that adding a cup of water to one makes it bigger.
  2. The Ire and connections to Elantris: what significance does the ire Aon have on aging (and are the jars of Invesitiure? part of it, maybe? and the cord to the back of the building is storing Connection?) and how much? (Ruin says that they have existed for far too long) Do we know if the Ire are wary/ staying away from shadows (the Shadesmar equivalent)? Does the Orb store Connection, but Connection to nothing in particular? Kelsier and the Well of Ascension: Does being in the presence of a perpendicularity (or a bunch of Investiture) "expand your soul"? Spikes: storing them in blood preserves them, does it have to be the Inquisitor's blood? If not, could it work for a Kandra? Identity of clothing: if Kelsier thought of his clothing as having words/ knots in it, and believed it enough, couldn't he take notes? Hoid: Shards (at least Preservation) refer to him as Cephandrius, is that what he went by when he met them (probably a RAFO for DragonSteel)? Do we have a WoB if Hoid is using "Stick" as an oar? How were the Pits of Hathsin "easier to access" (paraphrasing) as a perpendicularity (how would he have escaped)? Do we know if Hoid has the equivalent of a gemstone that doesn't leak Investiture (like from Shadesmar near Roshar)? Does Hoid know Sazed (he references a tall, bald, and wears lots of earings before he makes for the Well)? Do we know if the bandages that Kelsier saw him (percieving himself as) wearing are reminicient of his time on Sel? Kelsier: Anyone else notice how he takes advantage of Preservation? Mare's flower picture was placed by Preservation/ actions of Preservation, right? Ruin: He claims not to be Evil, but he intends to destroy everything on Scadrial. Ati might not be Evil, but Ruin is. Shadesmar: do we know what the "strange formations of rock, like glassy sculptures" are?
  3. So, in the hope of elantris if I’m not mistaken they say the Aon for hope is Ati, which is the name of ruin, something that the Lord Ruler never got to kill , am I the first to point this coincidence out ? Please let me know if there is a discussion since I wanted to know Brandon’s take on it
  4. Ok so this will have spoilers all the way up to (you guessed it) Shadows of Self and secret history So I'm reading mistborn for the second time and HoA this exchange happens between sazed and the first gen kandra: “Preservation’s power remains, for power cannot be destroyed. His mind however, was all but destroyed-for this was the sacrifice he made to imprison Ruin.” “The sliver remains,” another reminded. “The shadow of self.” I found a post from like 6 years ago discussing it but nobody touched on one point I thought about (sorry if this is the wrong place for this I'm new here ><) So it seems to me in the context of HoA the "Shadow of self" refers to what was left of Leris after he created ruins prison. Slowly fading eventually leaving the power up for grabs. Reading Shadows of Self the first time I figured the title more leaned towards being about Wax as in this book we learn the bulk of his past (or at least the key moments like his childhood with his uncle, meeting Lessi etc) and where his identiy is in question. But what I wonder this time around is that maybe it's a hint about Trell too. Trell atm is not confirmed to be a shard however it must be shard like at least. This book is where we get confirmation that Trell is actually real. It has it's own form of hemalurgy, a more refined version maybe given what Lessi/Paalm was able to do with it which implies investiture in some capacity in my eyes. Trell must be something big being an object of worship pre-dating the lord ruler and being able to control/influence others. Even Miles was a follower and seem to have been influenced in some way by it? Anyways where I'm going with this is what if something similar is happening to Trell where only a sliver remains of them and they are trying to act with whatever time they have left. At the very least they have a plot in motion and if my previous thought is true they have a power that cannot be destroyed. Whether Trell is a shard or not that could have interesting implications in the cosmere especially if Trell isn't a shard. What do you guys think though? I'm mostly just eagerly awaiting The Lost Metal to come out so my brain is spinning trying to figure out whats gonna happen.
  5. Is it a coincidence that on Sel there is an Aon called Ati, like the vessel of Ruin Ati? Has Brandon answered this?

    Theory on vax

So this is my theory in the dragon steel chapters brandon has made available, yolen is most of the time referred to as “the continent of yolen” now we go on to mistborn secret history , ati, before he dies utters the word vax, now presumably, the last place ati was before taking up the shard of ruin was yolen, or should I say vax (I will explain this later) in warbreaker, hoid refers to his homeland as a “place we’re to lands meet and gods have died” furthermore, there is a saying on yolen that goes “may two worlds become one to you” and Brandon has SPECIFICALLY stated that this is NOT in reference to any realms so my theory is that vax isn’t a planet, but another landmass or continent on yolen
  7. The Well of Ascension and everyone present at it. L to R: Leras, Elend, Vin, Kelsier, Ati
  8. From the album: My Mistborn Stuff

*sigh* So as you can probably tell, the coloring... did not turn out. I liked the inked version much better, but here's the colored one too. A huge reason the coloring didn't turn out was because my grey marker is honestly dead and I don't know how I thought I could do Fuzz's robe without that. It just looks uneven. But, oh, well, at least Ati's gold turned out well. I'm glad I was able to draw this though, I suppose. Ruin and Preservation are some of my very favorites in Mistborn and my 11 year old self would be over-joyed to see this drawing.
  9. Okay, when I read Mistborn: Secret History and that scene where Kelsier punches Ati in the face, my immediate reaction was, "That's a dick move. You don't know what he's like." It was made clear that Ati was corrupted by the Intent of the Shard of Ruin to make him do all those things when he was a Vessel. So when he dies, is he back to normal? Was he back to the nice guy he was before, and does he remember everything he did, why he did it, and what sort of mental trauma can that do to a person? Also, he was ascended, so he could have stayed yet went into the Beyond. Why? Why not say anything to the people you terrorized? There are so many questions that the scene gives me about Ati. And did something similar happen to other Shards, like Honor and Autonomy, or does splintering them do something different? Why don't Shards stay and try to come back to the physical realm more? Or just stay in the cognitive realm and give advice? I have so many questions!
  10. So, at the end of HoA, Vin Ascends to face Ruin and kills Ati (Ruin's Vessel), dying in the process. Now, when Vin "threw her power" against Ruin they "collided and repelled each other", which resulted in the death of both Vessels. Notably, we know that neither Preservation nor Ruin were Splintered during this process, as Sazed Ascended shortly thereafter. That being said, what (cosmerologically speaking) happened when Vin "threw herself" against Ati? How can you kill a Vessel without Splintering them? Are all Shards opposed in such a way that mere "physical contact" damages their Vessels?

    Ruin

    From the album: Mistborn Doodles

The lord of decay, in all his glory. My favorite Shard, by far. I always imagined his hair as actual fire, so naturally I had to paint it!
  12. Hi guys, I was just thinking about this upon rereading parts of Hero of Ages for a paper I'm writing, but how would Ruin have gotten the atium? Like, was it only his ignorance of where it was that kept it from just taking it into himself once he was freed, and once he found out where it was, was it just Vin's power as Preservation preventing him from doing anything active reflexively that did it? If so, what was the point of the Kolos even attacking for it. The world would have ended anyway, it would just have taken a few months for people to starve, if Vin hadn't killed ruin and Sazed had taken up both powers. Would the Kolos or Kandra under ruin's control taking control of Atium actually have done anything more as long as Vin was preservation? Were the pits protected from Ruin somehow that as long at the atium was in them, Ruin couldn't just like, absorb it into himself? What's going on here?
  13. I just finished re-reading Elantris and I have so many questions. I think I need to write Cosmere stuff on my walls like T. Anyway, ATI is an aon? ATI like OUR Ati? Was Ati originally from Sel? Who is Jaddeth really? Is he the person who took up a shard? Is he Ambition? Because Hrathen keeps saying that he rewards the ambitious. Are the Dakhor somehow hemalurgically pierced? Are the bones bonded with adamantium or something? What is Lukel's name aon? The God trapped in the land sounds much like Ruin trapped in the well. Coincidence?
  14. I've read Mistborn era 1 twice, as well as the rest of the Cosmere, and have visited Coppermind.net, numerous times. But I can't quite get a grasp on how exactly the shard magic on Scadrial works. Regarding the physical form of the Shards: Solid=metal, liquid=shardpool, gas=mist? But... Where is Ruin's mist? How come there are only two beads of Lerasium and lots more of Atium? Where is Atium's liquid? What is the phase change process? Once burned, how does it recycle? If the solid/liquid/gas are the physical aspects of the shards, why are the cognitive aspects of the vessels so detached? Or are they? Why can Ati not sense his own body through metal? Once Harmony is in charge, how do all those aspects transfer to him consistently?
  15. reading through some archives for a new theory of mine and found this: INTERVIEW: Oct, 2008 Hero of Ages Q&A - TWG (Verbatim) DALENTHAS (15 OCTOBER 2008) With all the talk about action and reaction and whatnot, will some force form to counter Sazed's new Ruin/Preservation mix? It seems to me like the whole nature of the world can't stand to have one person unopposed. BRANDON SANDERSON (16 OCTOBER 2008) Ruin and Preservation were not the only Shards of Adonalsium, though they are the only ones on Scadrial at the moment. Sazed's ability to be both at once is actually something I drew from Eastern mythology, where it is believed that the ability to contain two opposing forces at the same time represents ultimate harmony. The Buddha, for instance, was said to have performed the miracle of producing both fair and ice from his hands at the same time. CHAOS Is "Scadrial" the proper name to refer to the Mistborn world? BRANDON SANDERSON Scadrial is indeed the name of the planet. this was written before the second trilogy [AoL, SoS, BoM] meaning that the 2 shards came after sazed ascended. this makes it likely that one of the 2 is the one sazed can sense, and the "one that is less obvious" [paraphrased] would have only come after the ascension, narrowing down the options, thought it was interesting and might help?
  16. So I've been mulling this theory over for a few days now and decided to post it to get some feedback. After rereading BoM, I think I've talked myself into Leras and Ati being gay lovers on Yolen (and pre-contract breaking on Scadrial). I first thought of the idea when the Allik mentioned that that Southern Scadrians believed that Ruin and Preservation were married. Now that in an of itself doesn't say much; they could very easily be just plain wrong. However, the more spitballing I did, the more it made sense: · Despite going against both of their Shardic intents, Leras and Ati created life out of nothing, literally combining pieces of themselves to create a new human. They are the only ones to create their planet wholesale. Doesn’t this fit with the idea of a gay couple, who could never have biological children of their own, finally being given the ability to create life themselves, literally mixing parts across all three realms of each person? It also appears as if Leras still cares about Ati, despite the war between them. Leras frequently appears at Ruin's prison, and not merely to speak to Kelsier. The first time he comes, he doesn't even acknowledge Kelsier, just stares into the Well and paces back and forth. Indeed, Leras describes his betrayal of Ruin as death; I always assumed that referred to how he knew he was weaker than Ruin now (and it could still mean that to an extent) but it could also refer to the literal betrayal of the person you love the most, a death of the soul, so to speak. Finally, and probably weakest, we have only seen three planets with multiple Shards: Scadrial, Roshar, and Sel. On Roshar, we have a confirmation of the two shards being lovers. On Sel, it's more tenuous but I believe they were lovers as well. IIRC, there was a recent WoB where he said that Odium splintered D+D early because he was more worried about them than all but Ambition. Why would he be most worried about two people with opposite Shards; we saw how that would play out with L+A. He could have simply left them alone and they would have inevitably attacked each other eventually. There had to be something that united them enough to make him think they wouldn't attack each other: love. Also, when asked about the relationship between Aona and Skai in February of last year, he gave a RAFO as opposed to a denial. So we have three dishardic planets, one of which is confirmed to have lovers, one of which it makes sense that the two were lovers, and Scadrial, where the two people literally created life by mixing their essences, their cosmeric DNA, so to speak. · What if Leras and Ati were married in their Yolen days and wanted to stay together after the Shattering? They created a home and children and lived well together for awhile. However, the Shards began to change them drastically and separate them. As Hoid says, “Ati was once a kind and generous man.” Ati descended into Ruin until Leras felt he had to betray his lover in order to protect their children. That leads us to the Well and Rashek and Vin releasing him, etc. etc.
  17. Tools: Color pencils, brush pens, ink Old design for Ruin/Harmony/Preservation DRAWING SHARDS OF ADONALSIUM IS MY LIFELONG PASSION. # # # Old designs for Honor/Cultivation/Odium
  18. Apologies in advance if this has been brought up before. I searched the forum, wiki and google for any derivative of the word 'Adonals' before posting this, so I am not sure if it has been mentioned. If so, please direct me to the appropriate place/WOBs. Appreciated. Alright, so recently I started reading Warbreaker again because I absolutely love Lightsong. When it got to the section with Hoid, Lightsong and Siri I was of course interested because this is my first re-read after having found the 17th Shard and learned theories of the Cosmere. After Hoid completed his history of Hallandren he said something I had not noticed before in reference to his storytelling/[Lightweaving]. "I learned it many, many years ago from a man who didn't know who he was, your Majesty. It was a distant place where two lands meet and gods have died." I thought about who that friend may have been, and of course my brain jumped to the biggest thing it possibly could, Adonalsium itself. This got me to think something; what if the biggest clue about Adonalsium right there in the name: -ium. Lerasium. Atium. Leras. Ati. Therefore, I believe Adonalsium is actually Adonals This fits right into how so many worlds in the Cosmere worship some other, greater god out there - and how often it does not seem like that would be Adonalsium Itself. So, the pieces of my theory fall thusly: 1) There is a greater power that has existed long before the creation of Adonalsium 2) A living being called Adonals found a way to steal/harvest/merge with energy of this higher power 3) Adonals became a physical embodiment of a portion of this power, taking the suffix '-ium' 4) When Adonalsium was shattered it caused the greater power to lose much of its ability to effect the Cosmere - while maintaining its sentience it can only act in very subtle ways And.... Sorry, don't really know exactly where I was going with this... I just don't recall ever having heard anything along these lines and I wanted to see what y'all have to say. I need to go to my university now for some paperwork, and I will try to flesh out this theory in my head a little better while I am gone. Thanks for listening to my ramblings.
