  1. Hi, I found there are some words in Alethi slightly visible in the picture of lait plants. It's almost invisible in the book, better in the web version of that picture. I've enchanced it a bit and mirrored (judging by shape of letters, it was needed) but I can't decipher it, even with the magic bookmark. Can anyone help? (big pic, downloading suggested)
  2. I wasn't sure if someone had done this already (as I looked through the forums and couldn't find anything), but I used Harakeke's handy list of Alethi glyphs taken from Thaylenah symbols (found here: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/6487-thaylen-and-alethi-glyph-translation/page-3) and used them to translate part of one of Nazh's maps from Words of Radiance. Unfortunately, it offered nothing especially insightful in this case (but maybe on a later Stormlight Archive illustration). There were a few things I didn't know how to translate, though. For example, the two words near the top left look like lth kr, but I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. The word on the banner near the bottom right looks like rthrn. The words next to the blue castle look like zttrd flns, and the blue word that shows up a few times in the water next to "danger" looks like zfwrkt. Does anyone have an idea? I think the symbol for z might be wrong, but if it happens to be, I don't know what it's supposed to be. *Harakeke also noted that the compass rose says "Urithiru" on it.
  3. I posted this idea on tor.com on sunday but I prefer a focused forum discussion to the sprawling comment sections over there so I wanted to post this idea here and hopefully get some reaction. I think Shardplate and Shardblades are in some way fundamentally different. I have seen that many people who speculate on the nature of Shardplate suggest or even assume that Syl is directly responsible for the shardplate. I don't think so. the plate and blades left behind by the Radiants behave completely differently in several fundamental ways. Also Kaladin doesn't hear screaming from touching plate. Some have suggested that the plate might be formed from a second spren bond but I dislike this suggestion, bringing a third person into a close personal relationship between two people is hard (and would be harder to write believably, not that Brandon wouldn't be able to do it). It also doesn't address the lack of screaming. My hypothesis is that the answer lies in the connection of the bond forming spren to a different kind of spren, f.ex. honorspren - windspren. It is a connection that has constantly been reinforced with Syl and I think it was mentioned in general for bond forming spren (I don't remember where and might be completely wrong on this). It seems like too much for just a casual connection, windrunner - windspren (wind being caused by pressure differences in the atmosphere). When Kaladin performs the greatest displays of his power (flying) he is surrounded by huge numbers of windspren (greater than any we have seen or heard of before). I think that is where the plate comes from. It would explain the lack of screaming, the screaming being caused by the betrayal which the windspren are incapable of comprehending thus making the plate merely distasteful. Also, cryptics - creationspren? We see Shallan being surrounded by creationspren in similarly huge numbers when she draws Pattern in her cabin on the ship (Chapter 3). It is obvious that to use lightweaving to anything approaching it's full potential requires a great deal of creativity. The link is far more tenuous than with pressure and wind but unless we see lightspren the It's as good a connection as I can think of. We have seen no indication of any other possible connections with cryptics (that I can remember at least) and I don't see why honorspren should be special in this regard. I hope I am not reposting. If I am, sorry.
  4. So according to TVTropes, it's heavily implied that Zahel is Vasher from Warbreaker (Which I have yet to read- gonna finish Well of Ascension first) and that Nightblood returns as Szeth's new sword. I was wondering after having read it, so I decided to ask someone who actually read Warbreaker- or more specifically, a whole forum of them- for help understanding the connections.
  5. From Brandon's website: For any 17th-Sharders planning on going to this: Is anyone planning on recording it? If not, I could probably do so.
  6. So I've been intrigued to see how the gender politics would develop throughout book 2, and I actually noticed something that intrigued me. Towards the end of the book Kaladin mentions that the whole "lighteyes" racism thing is probably connected to the fact that the Radiants had lighter coloured eyes themselves. In considering this, I actually remembered a line earlier on (i wish I had a page number) where Syl mentions to Kaladin, "Honor created man." Going on this line of inquiry, I considered what if Honor created man, Cultivation created women and Odium created Parshendi out of spite as his own little vessels of everstorm evil. I got a bit stuck because I remembered that Preservation and Ruin couldn't create, but then I vaguely remember someone somewhere mentioned that was something very specific to their intent. Preservation and Ruin alone can't do actual creation, so it wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility that each of the shards created their own genders, and by extension, made that binary a strong part of their culture.
  7. At this point, I'd like to put some increased evidence forward for the idea that the Parshendi are the true inhabitents of Roshar, who initally went to war against humanity for reasons that were somewhat understandable. Perhaps they were even created by Adonalsium when it was on Roshar, but that is irreleveant. Firstly, I'd like to point out that the Parshendi are unable to bond with the Nahel spren. I interpret this to mean that the Parshendi were unable to bond with the Nahel spren because they were closer to the Cognitive Realm than other peoples. This allowed them their forms, but they were not well-rooted enough in the Physical realm to form Nahel bonds with the most intelligent spren. However, then for whatever reason, human refugees arrived, I believe fleeing an attack by Odium onto their home planet of Braize, in the company of Honor and Cultivation. And they could bond with the Nahel spren just fine. However, they also were doing what humans do and conquering the Parshendi land with the help of these powers, and powerful spren such as the Stormfather, who they called traitor. They beat the Parshendi and drove them back into Braize, which was now a hellish nightmare, thanks to Odium. They called this place Damnation. I believe some memory of this conquest can be seen in this Death Rattle. The Parshendi, who had been around for much longer, felt betrayed by the spren, who gave humans some fantasitc abilities. How could the Parshendi hope to match them? This is echoed here, with disturbing implications. At this point, I believe Odium saw what had happened happening, and realized that he had had a stroke of good fortune. His army was here. They were angry, they wanted their homes back. So, he and the Unmade made an accord with them. They would give them new forms, forms of power, in exchange for destroying humanity. The Parshendi agreed, without realizing the trick. Once they took on these forms and bonded with Odium's voidspren, they were his Voidbringers, scourge of Roshar. This is shown here. The Parshendi songs even claim that the gods gave them powers similar to the human Surges. Another quote again mentions that it was crafted by the Unmade. This also explains something else. The Last Legion may not have been able to remember a time when they were free to chose their own form, but it used to be so, before humanity arrived. So although time has dulled the specifics, the ideas of the forms themselves remain. There is one quote that seems important that I cannot make sense of, though. Ideas on what this means are welcome. All in all, I think this is a pretty solid interpretation of early Rosharan history and the conflict between the humans and the Voidbringers. Obviously some of the details may be wrong, but I think the outlines are on the right track.
  8. During my reread of WoR today, I happened upon this little gem while Kal is in prison: (Ch. 62 "The One Who Killed Promises") Sounds like Axies' incarcerationspren to me. I guess he's never seen them because he's never been imprisoned in the Alethi Warcamps. (Or maybe its because of the differences between how he and Kaladin Cognitively interpret imprisonment, but that's a theory for another day.) Are there any other neat references back to The Way of Kings that you've noticed? (Sorry if people have already noticed this, it didn't appear in any of the searches I did.)
  9. Hello there. This is my first main board post, so don't hesitate to correct me on any rookie errors I might make. WoR spoilers follow, so please be advised. OK, here goes. Take a look at this quote from the epilogue: As a bandolier is specifically an item meant for carrying cartridges of firearm ammunition, the presence of one in the possession of Jasnah Kholin is quite odd. My interpretation of this is that she has used the Surge of Transportation as a means of travelling to Scadrial. The Stormlight Archive is roughly contemporary with The Alloy of Law, and so she would easily be capable of procuring a gun while she was there. Hoid's thoughts that she had picked it up while on her vaguely defined travels seem to support the idea, at least in my own mind. Has anyone else noticed this? Do you have any other supporting evidence, or perhaps a rebuttal of the theory?
  10. (yes, the thread title is a pun) After reading WoR, I decided to take Shallan's new chapter symbol (Pattern) and chart it into a knitting pattern, because I like doing fandom-inspired knitting projects and because a circular symbol with six-sided rotational symmetry is just asking to be put on a hat (and then I'll be a symbolhead!). (this repeats six times, knit in the round, like pieces of a pie -- the point at the top is the center of the symbol) I am in the process of test-knitting this now, I'm hoping to have it finished before I go to Brandon's signing on the 21st.
  11. Alright guys, I went to the signing and have a good three and a half hours of audio. If anyone wants to transcript, be my guess. So. Asked a few things: First of, Warbreaker was written as a sort of prelude to the character of Zahel. Aluminum does not give an atium shadow (Whoo!) Nightblood is a Shardblade, that is super powerful and twisted. If Kelsier's Cognitive Shadow went to the Forests of Hell, he would be a shade. If Laras's Cognitive Shadow went, he would be a shade. If a Seon went, they would be a Shade. Will post audio when I figure out how.
  12. Was anyone else not entirely convinced that Darkness is actually Nalan? He didn't actually even say that he was--he just let Szeth draw his own conclusions. I mean, it's clear that the Heralds are capable of being selfish, giving up, and other human things, but Nalan going around and executing judgment on Surgebinders doesn't sound very Herald-ish. That along with giving Szeth (who's pretty crazy at this point) the most dangerous sword in the cosmere, just feels wrong. I have no other evidence to support my assumption, but I think Darkness is probably somebody running around with Nalan's Honorblade and delusions of grandeur (or nefarious plans of his own) or a rogue Skybreaker just pretending to be Nalan to further his own ends. Thoughts? Anything I'm missing?

  14. If you're in the US, Words of Radiance is out right storming now. Did you know Brandon has never gotten #1 on the New York Times bestseller list? It's time to fix that. Is it shipping to you at the moment? Well, go to your favorite ebook retailer--Amazon, Nook, Google Play, iBooks, and Dragonmount--to grab it and devour it. You're on 17th Shard on release day, so obviously you aren't reading it. You should fix that. And if you're not in the US, I certainly wouldn't suggest that maybe you could fool those servers by pretending you are in the US, but, hey. I didn't suggest it either, so that's plausible deniability right there. So go buy it and read it right now. Once you do--and only once you do--go to the Words of Radiance spoiler board, and the Words of Radiance Reactions topic. You should not go to that board if you haven't read the book, and I cannot more sternly say that. Don't do it. Just Say No™. In the Cosmere Theories board, please mark spoilers for the next week as a brief grace period. Get reading! I think you will enjoy it very, very much. Also, there is the Way of Kings trade paperback that comes out today. Not only is trade paperback a wonderful size (taller than the usual mass markets), this edition comes with a brand new illustration that has never been seen before, as well as the full color endpapers. It is pretty freaking great.
  15. In the runup to the release of WoR some of us elected to commit to positions relevant to the Stormlight Archive Realm. With the release of WoR, some of these issues have been settled and others may have arisen. Here is the post-WoR update. Please let me know if you disagree with the assessments herein. From the Stormlight Archive forum: SETTLED: No (I claim that Kaladin's ability to heal shard severed limbs and the ability to infuse on the part of their followers settles this one). 16. This theory is a simple one. Unlike the other orders of Knights Radiant, the Skybreakers never abandoned their oaths and disbanded. They have remained active, albeit covertly, under the control of Nalan. Firstly, I want to present evidence that one of the orders of Radiants never disbanded, at least entirely. This epigraph makes it quite apparent to me that one of the orders of Radiants stuck around for quite some time. Nalan offers Szeth a place in their ranks, and Helaran was apparently attempting to join them. It seems evident to me that for whatever reason, the Skybreakers refused to abandon their Blades and their oaths to stick around. As one final piece of evidence, I'd like to look at the spren. First, I'll establish the type of spren the Skybreakers were bonded to. Given Nalan's penchant for laws and one of the divine attributes of the Skybreakers being "just" this makes me fairly certain that the highspren belong to the Skybreakers. Now, lets look at who Jasnah goes to see for information while she is in Shadesmar. Why would she go to see the highspren? While I'm sure that they are knowledgeable, would not the spren of other orders be better? Why not see the spren of the Willshapers or the Elsecallers, her own spren? They are associated with knowledge and wisdom, surely they would be better equipped? But here, Pattern provides a clue. The answer is clear. She went to the highspren because they are the only spren who survived the Recreance because the Skybreakers did not abandon their oaths. They are the only ones who were alive during the Desolations.
  17. In WoR, Syl mentions toward the end that her father doesn't like Kaladin. Since she is a honorspren isn't her father Honor? But, Honor is dead, right? Are they talking about Honor's spren? What does Syl's father do in the world beside produce highstorms? Any thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated!!
  18. Apparently even I have missed it, so that means some of you have missed it too: the Words of Radiance midnight release is now uploaded! We had technical difficulties actually streaming it, but we did record it. (Sorry about that.) Here it is!
  19. Hey guys and gals, I recorded last night's signing with Brandon Sanderson in "Los Angeles" aka Huntington Beach =P Along with getting a Shardhunt code, an R.A.F.O card, and the audio of the whole event. I also may have received a new Ideal of the Knights Radiant? A reply from an Oathgate? Who knows! My book is signed: All in all it was a long, but fun night. I had a great time talking with the other fans and even Brandon himself. The audio I've attached is about 45 minutes long. Enjoy! ~sbi WoR_Tour-03052014_Part01.mp3 WoR_Tour-03052014_Part02.mp3 WoR_Tour-03052014_Part03.mp3
  20. Okay I've stared this thread to see what people think of the character developments so far by the end of Wor. So Kaladin wow I'll admit I was a little frustrated by him in parts but looking back in wor his journey was a necessary one. He had a alot of pent up frustration and unresolved issues eating away at him by the end of wok and I think we can safely say that he really needed to figure out and grasp his role and place in the grand scheme of things that's not to say he's done growing as a person not by a long shot but he's getting there. I think we can safely say that his going home in the next book will be an intriguing development especially when it comes to the place and people of his childhood and seeing there reactions especially that of his parents who I'm guessing probably think he's dead. Now for Shallan gotta say wasn't to rapped up in her character in wok but boy did wor bring out the inner deemed child lol. She went from meek to evil genius and that tongue and sparky humorous later on was just awesome. The flash backs where a little predictable but I got the feeling they where less about explaining her character and more about setting up and laying a foundation for future events dun dun duhhhhhhh. By the end of the book she was definitely more capable as a person however I got the feeling that she was still uncertain about who she was but I get the feeling that that well be worked out in the next instalment soon enough. Adolin hmmmmm wasn't to thrilled with his development I thought was a decent enough character in the last book if a little closeminded. I noticed that with the duels and increasing danger and ever increasing odds that his chapter has turned into a real adrenalin junky the arena and his decision to continue in the four on one bout demonstraighted this. I thought his questioning his place in his relationship with Shallan just before he went postal on Sadias was a little showing and worrying but I guess we will just have to wait and watch to see how he deals with his actions. Okay so Im curious as to your opinions of there developments so far and how you think it may impact there relationships in the future.... Thoughs??????
  21. In Wor we see the amazing healing capability of both the Growth surge (the Regrowth from Lift's interlude) and the passive healing ability given by holding stormlight. Indeed stormlight has been seen to heal the severed soul links from wounds cause by a shardblade, and to straight up regrow limbs. Given that stormlight seems to be all about repairing damage and regenerating cells. What happens to the aging process in surgebinders that frequently use stormlight. Think about it, old age is just the cells in the body being heavily damaged and degraded over time due to the enviroment and cell division. Based on what we have seen so far in WoK and WoR, it should be trivial for stormlight to heal any damage to the body caused by aging. The only way i can see stormlight as not granting extended life or immortality is if it heals by restoring the body to the state that one believes themself to truely be. For example, a surgebinder will still age becuase they think they should still be aging. As in if the effects of stormlight healing are closely tied to the cognitive realm. Penny for your thoughts (not really, I don't have any pennies).
  22. I have always pondered at the Kingdom of Jah Keved. The rest of the Silver Kingdoms have obvious remnants. Alethkar was Alethela, Shinovar was Shin Kak Nish, Makabakam and Sela Tales shattered into smaller kingdoms. All of the kingdoms of modern times however are still populated by the same race of people that once lived there when it as a Silver Kingdom. There are still Natans in the Unclaimed Hills, still Selay men in Marabethia. There has been some overlapping, such as the Purelakers, who are of Reshi and Selay descent, but as a whole, people have stayed put. But Jah Keved seems to deviate. Although they control roughly the area of the kingdom of Valhav, they are very much like the Alethi. They have much the same appearance, tall, tan and dark haired. Their culture is similarly focused on war. They share the same religion, have a similar system of government, and even speak languages that are very similar. In fact, they don't seem to have any truly distinguishing characteristics like the other races do. Only one little tiny bit, the red hair (athough an argument can be made for violet eyes). So the Vedens themselves did not initially have the red hair. It is from the Unkalaki. Then, Rock tells of how his people came to the Horneater Peaks. This is fascinating (including an obvious Hoid cameo), but a small line at the beginning caught my attention. So, with those two pieces of evidence, I'd like to submit a theory. The Vedens are not one of the races of the Silver Kingdoms. They are a mixture, the quote says as much, of the Alethi and the Unkalaki, who were once the true rulers of the Kingdom of Valhav. After the Silver Kingdoms fell, the Alethi went to Valhav and conquered it, driving its true people up into the mountains, where they took refuge. The Alethi who conquered Valhav eventually set up their own kingdom and named Jah Keved. They eventually interbred with the Unkalaki, creating a kingdom very similar to Alethkar, but with a few oddities. If you need any more evidence, look at the name. Perhaps it is circumstantial, but the very name Unkalaki contains the name of a Herald within it. Seems like a good sign to me.
  23. I finally decided to make an account after reading this site for a few months and being thoroughly impressed by the intelligence and politeness on these forums. Here are three questions I asked Brandon today in Seattle as he signed my books (I am shocked he didn't RAFO me): Question 1: Shardblades vs Hoed (Major WoR + Elantris Spoilers): Question 2: Function of the Skybreakers (Minor WoR Spoiler): Question 3: Adolin and the Knights Radiant (Major WoR Spoiler): My thoughts and Interpretations (Major WoR Spoiler): Thanks for Reading! Jerich P.S. It was nice to meet several of the 17th Sharders like Trickonometry and a charming Superfan who gave me her name which I promptly forgot... I will add it here if she posts to this thread:))
  24. I'm not sure if anyone has posted a list of all of the epilogues from Words of Radiance (The in-book book, not the Brandon book), but here they all are, in order not as they are shown, but in the order of the in-book chapter/page organization. Wow... This is really hard to explain... They are out of the order given to us, and put into the proper order. I included the chapter titles, page# and chapter# as included in the U.S. hardcover edition of the book. But as for Ishi’Elin, his was the part most important to their inception; he readily understood the implication of Surges being granted to men, and caused organization to be thrust upon them; as having too great power, he let it be known that he would destroy each and every one, unless they agreed to be bound by precepts and laws. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 2, page 4 “Mere Vapors” pg 479, ch 42 And thus were the disturbances in the Revv toparchy quieted, when, upon their ceasing to prosecute their civil dissentions, Nalan’Elin betook himself to finally accept the Skybreakers who had named him their master, when initially he had spurned their advances and, in his own interests, refused to countenance that which he deemed a pursuit of vanity and annoyance; this was the last of the Heralds to admit to such patronage. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 5, page 17 “The Ghostbloods” pg 486, ch 43 As to the other orders that were inferior in this visiting of the far realm of spren, the Elsecallers were prodigiously benevolent, allowing others as auxiliary to their visits and interactions; though they did never relinquish their place as prime liaisons with the great ones of the spren; the Lightweavers and Willshapers both also had an affinity to the same, though neither were the true masters of that realm. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 6, page 2 “Perfection” pg 617, ch 53 \ And now, if there was an uncut gem among the Radiants, it was the Willshapers; for though enterprising, they were erratic, and Invia wrote of them, ”capricious, frustrating, unreliable,” as taking it for granted that others would agree; this may have been an intolerant view, as often Invia expressed, for this order was said to be most varied, inconsistent in temperament save for a general love of adventure, novelty, or oddity. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 7, page 1 “Uncut Gems” pg 582, ch 50 They also, when they had settled their rulings in the nature of each bond’s placement, called the name of it the Nahel bond, with regard to its effect upon the souls of those caught in its grip; in this description, each was related to the bonds that drive Roshar itself, ten Surges, named in turn and two for each order; in this light, it can be seen that each order would by necessity share one Surge with each of its neighbors. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 8 page 6 “The Multiplied Strain of Simultaneous Infusion” pg 407, ch 35 Now, as the Truthwatchers were esoteric in nature, their order being formed entirely of those who never spoke or wrote what they did, in this lies frustration for those who would see their exceeding secrecy from the outside; they were not naturally inclined to explanation; and in the case of Corberon’s disagreements, their silence was not a sign of an exceeding abundance of disdain, but rather an exceeding abundance of tact. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 11, page 6 “Into the Sky” pg 597, ch 52 Malchin was stymied, for though he was inferior to none in the arts of war, he was not suitable for the Lightweavers; he wished for his oaths to be elementary and straightforward, and yet their spren were liberal, as to our comprehension, in definitions pertaining to this matter; the process included speaking truths as an approach to a threshold of self-awareness that Malchin could never attain. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 12, page 12 “To Kill the Wind” pg 665, ch 57 Now, as each order was thus matched to the nature and temperament of the Herald it named patron, there was none more archetypal of this than the Stonewards, who followed Talenat’Elin, Stonesinew, Herald of War: they thought it a point of virtue to exemplify resolve, strength, and dependability. Alas, they took less care for imprudent practice of their stubbornness, even in the face of proven error. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 13, page 1 “A Matter of Perspective” pg 430, ch 37 But as for the Bondsmiths, they had members only three, which number was not uncommon for them; nor did they seek to increase this by great bounds, for during the times of Madasa, only one of their order was in continual accompaniment of Urithiru and its thrones. Their spren was understood to be specific, and to persuade them to grow to the magnitude of the other orders was seen as seditious. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 16, page 14 “One Form of Justice” pg 499, ch 44 And when they were spoken of by the common folk, the Releasers claimed to be misjudged because of the dreadful nature of their power; and when they dealt with others, always were they firm in their claim that other epithets, notably “Dustbringers,” often heard in the common speech, were unacceptable substitutions, in particular for their similarity to the word “Voidbringers.” They did also exercise anger in great prejudice regarding it, though to many who speak, there was little difference between these two assemblies. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 17, page 11 “A New Woman” pg 418, ch 36 When Simol was informed of the arrival of the Edgedancers, a concealed consternation and terror, as is common in such cases, fell upon him; although they were not the most demanding of orders, their graceful, limber movements hid a deadliness that was, by this time, quite renowned; also, they were the most articulate and refined of the Radiants. -From Words of Radiance, chapter 20, page 12 “Patriots” pg 530, ch 46 Yet, were the orders not disheartened by so great a defeat, for the Lightweavers provided spiritual sustenance; they were enticed by those glorious creations to venture on a second assault. -From Words of Radiance, chapter 21, page 10 “Feminine Wiles” pg 547, ch 47 These Lightweavers, by no coincidence, included many who pursued the arts; namely: writers, artists, musicians, painters, sculptors. Considering the order’s general temperament, the tales of their strange and varied mnemonic abilities may have been embellished. -From Words of Radiance, chapter 21, page 10 “Watching the World Transform” pg 566, ch 49 There came also sixteen of the order of Windrunners, and with them a considerable number of squires, and finding in that place the Skybreakers dividing the innocent from the guilty, there ensued a great debate. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 28, page 3 “Veil’s Lesson” pg 625, ch 54 The considerable abilities of the Skybreakers for making such amounted to an almost divine skill, for which no specific Surge or spren grants capacity, but however the order came to such an aptitude, the fact of it was real and acknowledged even by their rivals. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 28, page 3 “The Rules of the Game” pg 636, ch 55 So Melishi retired to his tent, and resolved to destroy the Voidbringers upon the next day, but that night did present a different stratagem, related to the unique abilities of the Bondsmiths; and being hurried, he could make no specific account of his process; it was related to the very nature of the Heralds and their divine duties, an attribute the Bondsmiths alone could address. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 30, page 18 “Never Again” pg 675, ch 58 In short, if any presume Kazilah to be innocent, you must look at the facts and deny them in their entirety; to say that the Radiants were destitute of integrity for this execution of one of their own, one who had obviously fraternized with unwholesome elements, indicates the most slothful of reasoning; for the enemy’s baleful influence demanded vigilance on all occasions, of war and of peace. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 32, page 17 “Heirs” pg 590, ch 51 Twenty-three cohorts followed behind, that came from the contributions of the King of Makabakam, for though the bond between man and spren was at times inexplicable, the ability for bonded spren to manifest in our world rather than their own grew stronger through the course of the oaths given. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 35, page 9 “Whitespine Uncaged” pg 652, ch 56 Now, as the Windrunners were thus engaged, arose the event which has hitherto been referenced: namely, that discovery of some wicked thing of eminence, though whether it be some rogueries among the Radiants’ adherents or of some external origin, Avena would not suggest. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 38, page 6 “The Silent Storm” pg 437, ch 38 That they responded immediately and with great consternation is undeniable, as these were primary among those who would forswear and abandon their oaths. The term Recreance was no then applied, but has since become a popular title by which this event is named. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 38, page 6 “Palona” pg 458, ch 40 This act of great villainy went beyond the impudence which had hitherto been ascribed to the orders; as fighting was particularly intense at this time, many attributed this act to a sense of inherent betrayal; and after they withdrew, about two thousand made assault upon them, destroying much of the membership; but this was only nine of the ten, as one said they would not abandon their arms and flee, but instead entertained great subterfuge at the expense of the other nine. - From Words of Radiance, chapter 38, page 20 “Scars” pg 464 ch 41
