  1. I edited the U to the I, but I am not sure what you mean by some of the other changes. Is this correct?
  2. I tried looking around and couldn't find anything on this, how did Shallan become a radiant, or at least start bonding pattern? I was under the impression that one could not fully bond a spren unless they were "broken".They could start to attract one but couldn't finish the bond. In the book she seems to have became a radiant after she killed her mother. But how could she summon pattern before breaking. And Shallan's mother couldn't have broke her because her becoming a radiant was the whole reason she attacked shallan in the first place. The reason this bothers me is that shallan references that as what broke her. Is this what her next truth will be about or am i missing something?
  3. In the thread, The Most Useless Uses for Useful Powers, We had a Conversation about splitting someone in Half using the Surge of Gravitation. I didn't post this, But I though, that I could easily escape a Windrunner or Skybreaker Storing or Tapping Weight to Counteract the Gravity. Then I started wondering if that was possible. The Powers according to the Coppermind Wiki: So the Windrunner can increase or change the Gravity of a person, making them heavier or Lighter. Kaladin did this to himself in the duel in the Arena Lashing himself several times to another Duelist, effectively falling with Incredible weight onto the man. So, if Kaladin were to Lash Sazed Downwards a couple hundred times, could Sazed Store this 'Weight' in his Ironmind?
  4. Hey everyone, With Words of Radiance having been out for six a number of months now, we've merged the spoiler board into this one. Sorry that it took us a little longer than we anticipated to get this merged together, things have been crazy for all of us. What this means for you is that you can now post all discussions about the series right here in this board. If you haven't yet read book two, be aware that there will be spoilers here, so proceed at your own risk. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to send me a PM. -Rubix
  5. I am sure that a thread like this has been explored but seeing as I could not readily find it have have come to ask it myself. If you came the the Nightwatcher, what would you ask of her? Even better, what do you think would be what you would get? I would ask to know all the RAFO. I would then end up dumb and paralyzed so I could not share the secrets with anyone. ( /(Well Written Brandon.... well written)
  6. Welcome to the umpteenth Hurt'n'Heal game on the 17th Shard! Rules are simple and anyone can play: On your turn: Hurt one person for two health points or hurt two people for one HP each. Always highlight whomever you're hurting in red. Heal one person for one HP. Highlight this person in green. You cannot hurt and heal the same person in one turn. You must hurt and heal on your turn; don't just do one or the other. Anyone who reaches 20 HP becomes immune and is highlighted purple. You cannot hurt this person until the second round, which starts when there is only one non-immune person on the board (that person's HP is automatically raised to 20 and kept on the roster). The second round's HP cap is 30, and no one can become immune when it starts. A brief description of the players for this round if you can't remember all of the worldbuilding that Brandon did. I tried to keep it non-spoilery... ish. Ishik - The Purelaker who talks to the weird foreigners Rysn - The merchant apprentice who has to take care of "comatose grass" Ym - The shoemaker who believes in the One and heals orphans Nan Balat - Shallan's brother who tears apart crabs Axies - An Aimian who gets drunk, studies spren, and takes notes on his body Baxil - A man in the hire of a lady who goes around destroying statues Geranid - A hermit ardent who cooks food and studies spren with his wife Taln - The crazy guy who has RAFO written all over him, Stonesinew?!?!?!? Lift - The proto-Edgedancer who steals food in order to be awesome and bosses around a vine Zahel - A lonely ardent who uses strange metaphors and turns of phrase involving color Eshonai - A Listener Shardbearer, who tries to lead her people to survival Szeth - The Assasin in White, Truthless of Shinovar
  7. Got me thinking, comparing it(Warbreaker) to mistborn(WOA), Vin and Vivenna, are very similar in an opposite way. Vin: A Skaa, not trusting, saved and thought how to trust by kelsier, became a noblewoman. Vivenna: A princess, very trusting, kidnapped(saved but yeah, she's kidnapped) by Denth, became a beggar. On the other hand, similar and yet opposite plot became to surface, hence, Vin killing, the Lord ruler, and Vivenna's sister(siri), ended up having a romantic relationship with the God King. So that's it, I think that's enough for the mistborn and warbreaker trilogy, same plot at least in an opposite way. Comparing now, warbreaker to words of radiance is nightblood, and Szeth's sword(the last one he acquired). They both talk, and they talk about evil. Okay, so theories, I really don't know about Hoid or Wit, I've read about them being "aware" of the other worlds, but are they really the same? Since Hoid is not really active in mistborn and in Warbreaker I can't say much, but I think that the worlds are just parallel universes. Sorry if this is posted in a wrong section, It's my 4th or something thread. Thanks for reading. Edit: Vin and Vivenna, similar names? Plus God King and Lord ruler, yes? Edit2: I think this should be in the theories section, sorry, if a mod read this, please feel free to move it if necessary, thanks!
  8. Hey Guys! It was only a couple days ago that i finished WoR, and although I pretty much liked the book, there was some points that are bugging me. Maybe i am missing something here, or just seeing with the wrong eyes. So i would like to share these points with you, maybe you could explain it further and change my opinion....Here we go 1 - In the bridge sabotage part, Kaladin hear the sounds of horns announcing Parshendi an attack before he falls. Later, Dalinar returns to the warcamp and no one ever talks about an attack. Even if its not important, i just feel wrong that no one talked about it. So what happened? 2 - I really thought that it was not well explained when Shallan discovers that Pattern was her shardblade. How come she dint realize it earlier? BS pushed that one IMO.... 3 - Szeth ressurection. Ok we all knew that hes was not really gona die, obviously. But then BS shouldnt make Kaladin cut Szeth's neck with a sharblade! Nale's explanation of how he saved Szeth was really lame (Nale: Your soul was ripped out, but your brain wasnt dead yet....really??). I perceive that Kaladin and the others believing that Szeth is dead will be important in the future, but still i think BS pushed too hard again in that part. 4 - Right in the end, when Shallan remembers what really happened with her mother. BS put this scene after all resolutions in the book, so after all thisrevelation didnt matter for the plot. Wouldnt it be MUCH better if to activate the Oathgate a KR has too pronounce one of his order's Ideal? As truths = Ideal for Lightweavers, she could remember in that time in the revelation would be much more meaninful. So, do you agree ith me? Once again i say that i reaaally liked the book, so these are some minor point, but are some details that are annoying me. Maybe i didnt get it right and someone could explain to me! edit: grammar error
  9. Starting page 174 (Or about 177 in the digital version) with Ym the the shoe cobbler, he mentions One that was once knew everything and experienced nothing, That he became many, people to experience things. That sounds to me both like general creation and the shattering given how humanity blossomed across the cosmere after Adonalsium was Shattered. I wonder if Hoid had a role in the founding of the One. The seventh land being attained sounds a lot like finding a shard or forging a new one through people's individually bits of investment into something new. Could that be the 17th shards objective? Instead of putting Andonalsium back together they helped foster spreading humanity across the cosmos to generate enough investiture of some sort to create something new on par with the original Adonalsium? From human experience? We know that there is an afterlife of sorts and considering how many worlds have been founded with human life, that's a lot of life experiences being sent to one place. Some of whom have touched and worked with slivers and shards. We know Cosmere humans have something equivalent to a soul and its one of the few things that essentially created from absolutely nothing of importance where the laws of physics are concerned.so it doesn't violate conservation of energy/matter. Seems like if you could tap into that and harvest it you could forge a new Adonalsium that would have all those nasty welded lines between the individual shards. Meaning you wouldn't have to find the shards and collect them, instead you grow new ones in a single location instead in cosmere heaven when all those different people can eventually come to reflect the different intents. And and it fits with the whole motiff of humans becoming gods that we've seen throughout Brandon's work Gestalt god. Thoughts?
  10. So far we've only seen Kandra as humans, and then TenSoon as a dog and a horse, however they do inhabit True Bodies which are not made of flesh. Could a kandra theoretically impersonate a table or a sword, or a tree or something? Do we know their limits? Just for some context, this came from a crazy-WoR-speculation discussion, from the scene where Apologies if this has been asked before, there's so much speculation and especially WoB around that it's a bit scary to sift through. So I'm being a little lazy and just asking
  11. The Tranquiline Halls are the place in mythology that humans were cast out of, to be sent to Roshar by the Voidbringers. According to Vorin mythology, the Voidbringers aimed to cast mankind into Damnation (Braize, one of the other two worlds in the Greater Roshar system), except humans went to Roshar instead. Now the Voidbringers are trying to 'finish the job'. Ashyn is the other world in the greater Roshar system, besides Roshar and Braize. It stands to reason that is Damnation is real, then the Tranquiline Halls would be real too. And where would it be if it weren't for Ashyn. Ashyn does sound like a place the Tranquiline Halls would be. The magic system in the Silence Divine (set on Ashyn) is one where people with disabilities get powers. If any place could be considered a 'perfect' place, it would be there. Also, it is known that Cultivation and Honor moved to Roshar from somewhere else. Is it possible that they moved to Roshar from Ashyn when humans were 'cast out'. Once again, this is all speculation, and not confirmed.
  12. From the wiki page it says "Then at the end of the book, Wit also figures out how to revive someone from the end, presumably using Shadesmar, or the cognitive realm of Roshar." Does this come from something? Does it refer to Hoid reviving Jasnah? From what I saw at the end of the novel, Jasnah never died. She transported herself to Shadesmar and was then able to leave at the end of the novel. What I saw was Hoid displaying his uncanny sense to arrive at exactly the place he needs to be at the right time not magically resurrecting somebody.
  13. First post here so I hope I'm doing it right. Being mulling over The Diagram since I finished WoR and wondering why the 'save the world' plan also seems to be a 'kill the rest of the heroes' plan and I think I have an idea why (And I couldn't see this theory anywhere else so sorry if someone has already realised this). First, assume that the Nightwatcher is a lawful neutral character. It does what you ask for, not what's best for you/the world. So Taravingian asks for a way that he could save the world. Sounds like a good idea except... In order for Taravingian to save the world, he has to eliminate everyone else that could save the world. This might also play into the shifting intelligence. When he's brilliant, he doesn't have the compassion to care that he's dooming the rest of the MCs. When he's stupid, he doesn't realise the Diagram is also eliminating the composition. It might also explain why the Diagram is in code (especially the numeric code in one of the chapter headings). Much like Eshonai tuning to the song of peace, the inner conscience of Taravingian was screaming at him as he wrote and tried to disguise parts of the plan in the hopes he wouldn't understand it.
  14. Whose Blade did Dalinar bond in WoR? I think it is unlikely that he did in fact bond Talenel'Elin's Honorblade as we were led to believe. We know that at the end of TWoK Hoid shows up to meet Talenel'Elin. I think it's likely that at this point Hoid swapped the Honorblade for a regular Shardblade. The only reason I say this is because when Dalinar bonds with The Stormfather he has to get rid of his blade and after summoning it hears the screams. If it really were Talenel'Elin's blade then there would be no Spren involved and no screaming. I guess my question really is, what happened to Talenel'Elin's Honorblade and why was it taken? Did Hoid take it? If so, then why? ~sbi

  17. Something that caught my attention in Jasnah’s prologue, that I haven’t seen discussed yet, is one of Jasnah’s comments about the Parshendi Jasnah believes there is something, some ruins of importance, that the Parshendi have access to. I think it is safe to assume these are the ruins we see in Eshonai’s interlude, at the center of the Shattered Plains. So, what are these ruins? The obvious answer is that these ruins are Urithiru. But that may not be the only answer. In tWoK Jasnah is quite adamant that Urithiru is not on the Shattered Plains. It is possible that she is incorrect, but I find it unlikely that she would be so certain without reason. Jasnah’s notes refer to Urithiru being “Westward,” and it is hard to get less westward than the Shattered Plains. There has been specualtion that Urithiru is located in Shadesmar. The first WoR chapter provides some support for this, So, for the moment let’s assume that Jasnah is correct in tWoK and the ruins on the Shattered Plains are not Urithiru. What else could they be? At the Seattle signing in October I asked Brandon to indicate on my map in tWoK something that might be of interest to characters in the book, something that had been searched for. Above the Shattered Plains he wrote “Great Magic unleashed here.” I would guess that this unleashed magic is what caused the plains to shatter. But what was this event? 1. Perhaps some kind of physical manifestation of Honor being splintered. This would release the splinters, and could be the unleashed magic. 2. Magic on Roshar is very spren-dependent. And as Jasnah discusses in the first WoR chapter: Perhaps the Shattered Plains is a location where this “leakage” occurs… or perhaps it was a dam that burst. 3. If Urithiru was in Shadesmar, it may have had some physical correlate. We don’t yet know how relative location and distance works in Shadesmar, or how cities created in Shadesmar might manifest in the physical realm. Maybe Urithiru, and its assumed destruction, created some echo of ruins in the physical realm. I’m just throwing out a couple ideas, but I’d love to hear more. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from lurking around these forums it’s that 17sharders are boundlessly clever.
  18. So I've heard rumors that there are drawings in the books, Is this True? I listened to the Books, so I don't know. If it is true, Could someone post them here? Thanks!
  19. So no spoiler tags, as this is in the WoR Page. And I apologize for Misspellings, I listened to these books. So in the finale of WoR, we learn that the Stormwarden believe there to be only one Hihg storm that Circles the Globe, and they can predict it mathmaticly. However, by the Time it reaches Shinovar, it's depleted toa Normal Storm. so there must be an area between Shinovar and the Shattered Plains where the Storms reform, due to either Strong Winds or Invesiture. Then, at the end of the 500 year cycle, the storm slowly disperses, so it's weakly over the whole globe. This causes the Weeping. On light day, the Storm starts to Reform, and begins the Cycle anew. But now, because the Stormfather made a high storm on light day, the Stormwardens won't be able to predict their dates, Because not only will the regular weeping storm reform, and sweep the globe normally, but the Storm Father's Storm will also be going around the globe. If it were just these 2 storms, the Wardens could make new calculations to Predict the Stormwalls, but the Everstorm is also going the Wrong way, eventually, it will collide with one of these storms, and Grow, and then it will hit the next, and grow, but those two storms will keep going. So now, Roshar has to deal with 3 Continent sized Hurricanes, only two of which they're prepared to withstand. Even if we assume Taravangian's Diagram knew of this, and he's prepared Karbrunth and Jah Kaved, most of the World is going to be wiped out in a year. Only the Warcamps (Hiding in Urithiru) might Survive. Does this make sense to any one? Or am I just crazy.
  20. How did Kaladin survive the fall into the chasm? At this point in the story he doesn't have access to stormlight, Syl is gone... He hears a scream (possibly hers) but can't get stormlight ... so how does he survive unharmed ... I read that scene twice and still can't figure out what went down ...
  21. Alright guys, I went to the signing and have a good three and a half hours of audio. If anyone wants to transcript, be my guess. So. Asked a few things: First of, Warbreaker was written as a sort of prelude to the character of Zahel. Aluminum does not give an atium shadow (Whoo!) Nightblood is a Shardblade, that is super powerful and twisted. If Kelsier's Cognitive Shadow went to the Forests of Hell, he would be a shade. If Laras's Cognitive Shadow went, he would be a shade. If a Seon went, they would be a Shade. Will post audio when I figure out how.
  22. I got this crazy idea to create a scrapbook documenting the WOR tour for Brandon. I do a style of scrapbooking called Project Life and I think it would be awesome to create a book for him this tour. How it would work: I would provide the album and all the page protectors and we could have all the fans on tour stops fill out 3x4 inch cards with their thoughts for Brandon and maybe words of thanks for being the awesome writer that he is. The cards just slip into the pockets and we can also put photos/fanart in it. I will put decorative elements on the page related to the books too. Sample page: I think it would be really neat if on the first stop of the tour he started getting some of these cards filled out from fans. He probably won't know what to do with them. I will print photos and fan art to include in the book and I am creating ways to gather that content. Once he gets to Seattle we can give him the album for all those cards he has gathered already and with as many cards as possible already in it. At tour stops with 17th Sharders/people participating, they can print out cards or I will send cards to them and hand them out to fans to fill out to give to Brandon when they get their books signed. I can even make cards ahead of time to send in them in the mail if we coordinate this right. For those who can't make it to a tour stop but still want to be included, they can fill out a card, scan it and send it back to me and I will print it out and include it in the book. By the end of the tour, Brandon would have this scrapbook filled with thoughts and thanks from the fans. I have created a blog with a sample page, more on the idea and cards for download. Awesomeness Summoned was truly awesome and has already designed cards for people to fill out. I would also like to create a page with a collage of photos of people with their copies of WOR. Check out the blog and let me know if you would like to participate... Oh and if you could, please share this with other Brandon fans. Thanks!
  23. There are obviously WoR spoilers, as well as some content from Warbreaker. If you have not read either, GO AND READ THEM NOW. Anyway, I had a theory as to how one might go about reviving a dead spren, assuming their ex-Radiant is dead and decomposing. As I understand it, the spren is dies essentially because when the Radiant breaks his/her oaths, the bond is broken, thus removing whatever part of the spren is granting sentience. So what other magic system is known to have sentience-granting capacity, of which we have a lovely example right in WoR? Awakening. (As a side note, I did consider Hemalurgy, but it does't take long to realize all the problems associated with that particular method). I bet the key to reviving dead spren lies in Breath. We know all it takes to restore a dead human to some semblance of their old life is one Breath, and a thousand can make even an inanimate object sentient. I am completely sold on this idea. The only questions I see are how much Breath would actually be need, and whether the spren would regain its memories. I'm thinking it wouldn't require much, the spren isn't actualy dead, just stuck, and since Syl regained her personality and memories without issue, i don't expect the latter to be a problem either. If you still don't like the idea, just imagine Adolin holding his shardblade, preparing to duel Odium's champion, when he softly says: "Life before death. My life to yours, my breath become yours." Flash! Whoosh! Ta-dah, brand new radiant! Edit: Here is the relevant WoB
  24. So this might be a silly question but whatever happened to danlan she was still officially courting Adolin by the end of wok but up and disappeared in wor....?
  25. So, this post will contain references to both WoR and WoK, though only one major spoiler, and that will be in spoiler brackets, so don't look at that if you haven't read THE ENTIRE WOR BOOK. Literally, this spoiler is from the very end and I will -not- have it ruined for someone. The rest will be tiny minor spoilers that aren't consequential to your reading. _________________________________________________________________ Now, on to the post. During the series, several spren have been encountered or mentioned that are extraordinary. I shall list them thusly. 1. Cusicesh the Protector- This spren is an enormous one that rises out of the waters in a city whose name I have forgotten every day at the same time. It then looks at the Origin and changes appearance rapidly, making those around it tired. This spren appears to be bound to this area somehow, likely due to the way it is viewed by people as being the protector of the city. 2. The Nightwatcher- This strange spren gives out boons to those that request them of her, giving out curses in return as well. Not too much is known about her except that she is responsible for the Old Magic, which is likely not magic at all, but just a strong spren's manipulation of the cognitive aspect of the world. She is likely a spren of Cultivation, as I'm sure I heard Lift's spren talking about her at some point... Reference needed. She seems to be bound to some sort of valley in the same way that Cusicesh is bound to the city, by the way she is viewed by humans. Perhaps, if they viewed her as not giving curses, then she would only give boons? This must indeed be researched eventually. 3. The Stormfather- This immensely powerful spren is a spren that appears every time a Highstorm passes. He is responsible in some way for the release of Stormlight into gemstones during this time. This spren seems somehow trapped by the thoughts of man as being confined to the Highstorm. 4. Moelach- This spren, mentioned briefly by Tanavast on page 906 of the hardback version,is apparently responsible for the Death Rattle. When nearby (range unknown) This spren causes dying people to glimpse at something, powered by their life energy, past present or future. Unlike the other spren above, this one is cable of moving about, as it is so unknown by mankind that it is not bound by their perception of it. 5. Nergaoul- This spren, also mentioned by Tanavast, is responsible for the Thrill. It is considered an ancient evil spren that Tanavast does not yet have the resources to tackle. Aka, this thing is too strong for a kingdom that leads one of the most powerful cults in the world. This makes me believe it is an Unmade or Voidspren, a spren of Odium. He, like Moelach, is not bound by man's perception of him, and can move about, as he is so unknown. 6. Lunu'anaki- This spren appeared before rock from the depths of the Horneater Peak's "Oceans". Not much is known of him, save that he is considered to be a very very powerful god. He is the god of travel and mischief, looks like a lighter skinned Alethi with white hair. Possibly not a spren at all, but it is unknown. [Edit] This is most likely Hoid.
