  1. Heyo guys! I finally made a 17th shard account! (Finally!!!) Okay, this is really, really random, so be prepared. You guys, do you ever think that maybe Brandon Sanderson was stumped on the stick scene (pun intended)? And so, at 3:00 AM in the morning, with a stroke of pure and amazing genius, he wrote I AM A STICK as a joke and then it became a thing when someone else read it or something? Then somehow it became the most iconic and poetic line in the entire series. You guys we should make a kelek stick poem.
  2. So far we have seen Shallan tell 2 truths, or 2 ideals for light weavers. But she already had her shard blade, which, correct me if I'm wrong, means she has already sworn 3 ideals/told 3 truths. So that would mean she's 5th ideal? which seems weird to have a full radiant in book 3. But I can't think of any other explanations other then maybe lightweavers get their blade before other orders, but why would they? lightweavers don't really seem like the fighters. I would guess stonewards would get their blades early if any of them do. maybe bondsmiths because dalinar did summon the storm father as a blade before he swore the 3rd ideal. If this is true it confirms the whole Radiant wearing shardplate in the last battle (can't think of the name) at the end of oathbringer.
  3. Oathbringer is getting steamy sexy and I’m only on page 148. I don’t remember Shallan imagining her tongue in Adolin’s mouth or fantasizing about seeing his birthmark on his beefy thigh in book 2 or Dalinar devouring Navani in his passionate desire. Whoo! It’s not just the Everstorm that’s heating things up on Roshar! Anyone else noticing this?
  4. From the album: Stormlight Fan Art

I finished this fan art of Shallan yesterday! I know that it doesn't look anything like her and her outfit is not accurate to the book, but it was fun to create something new. It took me about a week from start to finish. Which is a long time for me, I usually like working on a project from 2 to 3 days, but this was a good practice. I hope you like it and please share with your Stormlight friends! I will be posting a SpeedPaint of this picture friday on my YouTube Channel, so stay tuned! Who is your favorite character in the Stormlight series? Comment below! Instagram: @ kaelintwede YouTube: Kaelin Twede Deviant Art: KMTwede

  5. While reading another thread something dawned on me . People were speaking on how shallan saw cryptics before she bonded them . That is a big error . For one we know that Shallan has been bonded to pattern for years . Yet when she took a mental picture of Teravangion she saw two cryptics standing behind him . Pattern has been her spren since she was a child . She should know him . Were the Cryptics their evaluating Teravangion or perhaps adfrotagia? They are not there for Shallan . I can’t believe this question has never been. Asked before ?
  6. So I was wondering who is the most dangerous of our POV characters thus far. Kaladin, Shallan , or Adolin? For purposes of this tally only named characters count. Minions don’t count.for example Adolin jumps on the battlefield and kills 20 parshendi with his shardblade they don’t count unless that parshendi had a name like Eshonai . Using this guideline who has the most kills ? Who is the most deadliest? Please list the number of kills u tally to the character! U might be surprised who wins.
  7. I don’t really have any evidence for this assumption, at least not hard evidence. However, in the scene where he accidentally walks in on Shallan in a nightgown, I noticed something odd he said. He said, “...my name is Adolin Kholin, I was born under the sign of the nine...” Knowing Brandon, I wouldn’t dismiss this as coincidence out of hand. We know Braize, Odium’s Invested planet, is related to the number nine. Since Preservation’s number was 16, Honor seems to be 10, while Odium is 9. Nine shadows of his Champion, Nine Unmade, etc. We have WoB on that, can’t find it. Anyway, what is “the sign of nine”? Why does it happen that a main character, who has had nothing special happen to him as an individual thus far (at least in comparison) suddenly mention this supposedly unimportant fact in passing? Coincidence? Not likely.
  8. If SA was an animated tv show, this would be a filler episode, because C-H-O-U-T-A. Who cares what it's made of, because it's filled with fried crunchy bits and covered in gravy! Knowing that the gravy pot hasn't ever been washed since the cook first bought it gives the food character. Why is Kaladin such a grumpyhead? Full picture - CLICK TO OPEN!!! Process:
  9. Because this is the closest I'll ever get to skill at art, I present to you good people of the shard... Stormlight Archive, as told by legos! (only characters right now, I may do some other things in the future... In order: Szeth - (assassin in white), Blackthorn, Eshonai, Elhokar, Sadeas - (grandbow), Shallan, Kaladin - (Radiant), Renarin - (bonding a Blade), Renarin - (Radiant). I just realized these belong in a gallery, all my new ones will be there
  10. Hi fellow epic readers, I'm new here. Just joined today after finishing Oathbringer and dieying over and over again from not having people around who read it. Anyways I just started getting into Branden Sandersons book after I read the Mistborn trilogy. I started steelheart still reading it *badum tiss* .Meanwhile I found the stormlight archive. The rest is a blur. Anyways I shipped Shallan with almost everyone thought the while series. Until Adolin and Kaladin. So I was okay as long as something was sailing.
  11. I just finished the three Stormlight books, and with my brain like a sieve I find all the little details filtering away, and I feel like some important tidbits are just gone from my brain and there are just too many thousands of pages for them to hide in. So, if any of you can refresh my memory, I would be grateful. 1. How did the soulcaster break? When I first heard it was broken in WoK and the damage was described, I assumed it was a shadeblade that did the damage and that Shallan did it when she killed her father. This turned out not to be the case. Did we ever find out what cut the chains, and who had it when it happened? 2. If Lin was working with the Ghostbloods, what the heck were the Ghostbloods trying ti achieve with the help of such an unlikable guy? 3. Who was Helaran working with? Same group as Gavilar? 4. If the Shard Bearer that Kaladin killed actually was Helaren (it was definitely Helaran's sword, and Amaram said the guy was Veden), where did he get the black horse and Shard Plate? 5. There were hundreds if not thousands of people who saw the Shard Bearer on the field, though not the battle where he was killed. Why did Amaram wait six months to publically lay claim to the Shards?
  12. From the album: ShiroXIX's Art

Adolin being obnoxious because he's probably really obnoxious.
  13. One of the great mysteries of Oathbringer and the Stormlight Archive thus far is determining the motives of the Ghostbloods. They have many investiture related objects from several shardworlds including a vial of white sand, an aviar, a tear of Edgli flower, a knife from Threnody and royal Idrian locks. They are aware that Sja Anat is willing to defect and are eager for Sja Anat to serve their unknown purposes. So how exactly would Sja Anat serve the Ghostbloods? Other than taking a powerful stick away from Odium, Sja Anat's ability to corrupt spren may give an insight into how she could be of use to the Ghostbloods. I believe that the mechanics involved in corrupting spren are similar to the mechanics involved in altering a spirit web. This would be akin to the effect of a normal person ingesting Lerasium. Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Lerasium overwrites Spiritual DNA. It can do some interesting things, and can overwrite your Spiritual DNA in different ways if you do it right. If a Surgebinder ate lerasium, he would become an Allomancer, but Brandon implied other things could be done. source We know that a nahel bond forms with an individual with cracks in their spirit web. These cracks are caused by experiencing severe trauma, similar to snapping in Era 1 Mistborn. Now here's where Shallan comes into play. She bonded Pattern before her family life was destroyed. While her parents may have been in an unhappy marriage, this would not be harrowing enough to cause cracks in the spirit web to form. This raises the question of how and when Shallan's spirit web was cracked and how she came to originally bond Pattern. Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] Why don't you have to say the words if you're just bonding a Cryptic? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Every Order's First Oath is the same. Then the Second Oaths for the Cryptics go into truths, but everybody says the First Oath the same regardless of Order. Which should raise the question of... Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] Did [Shallan] say it when she was a teeny-weeny, like in the cradle? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] That should raise a question. She wasn't teeny-weeny, but it should raise a question there. source Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] How was Shallan able to bond with Pattern before she was broken? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] She was open to him even before she went through a lot of that turmoil Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] I thought everybody had to be broken in order to-- Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Well, that's their philosophy in-world. But I'm not going to say whether it's correct or wrong. I will imply that there are other means as well. source We also know that an unmade was influencing the Davar family at some point Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] Was Shallan's family, during her childhood, being influenced by an Unmade? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Um, yes. Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] Was it <the corrupt...>? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] I'll RAFO that, but yes, there is some external influence there. Theory: Sja Anat is the unmade that was present during Shallan's childhood. Sja Anat altered Shallan's spirit web to allow a nahel bond to be formed with Pattern. Additionally, Sja Anat did so at Cultivation's request. Cultivation has powerful future sight as shown by The Diagram, which I and many others believe to be designed to intentionally mislead Odium. Cultivation's scheming against Odium has been going on for at least 5-6 years, as this is the age of The Diagram. Cultivation sent Glys to Sja Anat to be corrupted, giving Renarin access to surges which make him a counter against Odium. This sets precedent for Cultivation and Sja Anat cooperating. So how does this tie into Shallan's history? One only needs to look at the sequence of events caused by Shallan bonding Pattern. Shallan bonds Pattern. Her mother finds out and she conspires with a skybreaker acolyte to kill her. This event permanently scars the rest of the Davar family, driving Lin Davar down into a dark spiral. Helaran Davar joins the skybreakers after abandoning his household. Kaladin kills Helaran in attempting to save Amaram, setting Kaladin down his path. Given Cultivation's incredible foresight, she would have foreseen the consequences of Shallan bonding Patter and these consequences are obstructive towards Odium's goals. If Sja Anat is indeed capable of altering an individual's spirit web as I have theorised above, then she would be an incredibly powerful tool for an organisation such as the Ghostbloods and it comes at no surprise that they would be ambitious enough to pursue it.
  14. This episode on Ashspren’s Absolutely Not Serious Theories (AANST... good ring to it)… We all see Stick as a possible bit of comic relief during a time period in which we see Shallan discovering more about herself— funny content, but serious Cosmere ideals. However, Stick might be more than it appears. Firstly, it is important to remember what Shai from the Emperor’s Soul said about everything, even inanimate objects: everything views itself as something. With this logic from what I like to call the “Tables Have Feelings Too Lecture,” we can infer that Stick, everyone’s favorite character from Words of Radiance, must view itself as something. Therefore, Stick has its own patterns of thought, and must be able to think for itself. Nobody tells Stick to be a stick, Stick tells itself to be a stick. Thus, when Shallan tries to get Stick to change in Shadesmar, Stick proceeds to tell her what he sees himself as: a stick. Shallan tries to force it to change, telling Stick that it is actually fire, but she does not understand that Stick has made up its mind. But, where does this lead on a larger scale? Well, Stick is actually very helpful, and may have been able to predict the future. We start back at Stick’s signature line: “I am a stick.” It tells this to Shallan repeatedly, as if it wants her to know something. And indeed, it does. Stick wants Shallan to know to stay true to herself. It is very self-aware, and tells Shallan to be the same. However, Shallan stumbles upon Stick, she is not having struggles with her identity yet— this takes place later in Words of Radiance, and is seemingly resolved at the end of Oathbringer. This is where the part about telling the future comes in. Stick is warning her to be more self-aware at the moment, so that in the future, she would not have as many problems. Now, we see at different points in Oathbringer that Odium can see, and provide visions of, possible futures. This is shown through Renarin and his corrupted spren, Glys. Is Stick’s advice for the future and Odium’s abilities just a coincidence? I think not.
  15. This was too much fun to draw. Part of a drawing challenge on my Tumblr. Hopefully more to come soon! "Storming woman."

© Art belongs to Natalie Rodgers. All characters belong to Brandon Sanderson. This is merely my interpretation and is therefore unofficial.

  16. So at the end of oathbringer Shallan makes her illusions solid? She assumes that it is a mix of soulcasting and illumination, but Jasnah said it may be the fact that there is so much stormlight. What if this is the resonance for the lightweavers? Do we know if you can only have one resonance? Or is it just if you put enough stormlight into an illusion you can make it solid?

    The Highstorm

    From the album: Shalladin

Another old piece in which Kaladin feels guilty after finding out about Shallan's brother while they shelter during the Highstorm.
  18. From the album: Shalladin

The silly result of a fashion challenge over on my tumblr. The prompt was "Shallan + Fingerless gloves"
  19. From the album: Shalladin

A silly doodle regarding certain changes in appearance that are bound to irritate a certain bridgeboy.
  20. From the album: The Girl who Looked Up

Still reading Oathbringer, but was compelled to paint this scene. For those worried about spoilers, this is not an exact scene from the book, but rather a feeling I get when reading about Shallan and Shadesmar.
  21. So....I didn't see any other posts mentioning this, but I found myself thinking about Shallans story/play in Oahbringer, the one with the girl and the wall. We also found out that the humans were actually the Voidbringers and that the original inhabitants, the Dawnsingers, allowed the humans to live in Shinovar, which is completely surrounded by mountains and gets very little Stormlight. I'm thinking the story is actually a true history of when humans first came to Roshar and of the first human to cross over the mountains. Can anyone think of anything to support or deny this theory?
  22. Was anybody else actually disappointed that Shallan and Adolin got married? I understand the reasons why she choose him over Kaladin but I guess I just wasn’t ready for that to no longer be a possibility. I just can’t help but feel sorry for Kaladin, he doesn’t seem to have a lot of luck in the love department!

    Showdown

Someday I'll get around to organising and dumping all my artfiles. I think the concept behind this came into being after seeing re-runs of the cartoon series Xiaolin Showdown on TV, and the stylised opening titles inspired me. It makes a good desktop background. FULL SIZE: Featuring: 1. Perpetual left swipe 2. Highprince of projection 3. Totally spy 4. Demon crabgirl 5. Vorin fundie 6. Machiavelli grandpa Some notes I wanted to add: I have no idea what Pattern's blade form is like (other than glowing red designs) since he changes shape in every sword appearance. But Shardblades appear out of mist so I assumed Pattern sort of went blurry on the edges and phased into swordform. Taravangian's rock isn't really a cool weapon, but I didn't want to put Szeth in there because Szeth is not actually on the "doing bad things" side anymore. I wanted each "villain" to be the enemy or the opposite of the "heroes" piece, as Amaram is to Kaladin. Szeth didn't really fit there and the most appropriate named person I could think of for Shallan was the guy who pretty much killed a quarter of Jah Keved. I tried to keep the heights and sizes canonically proportional, but Shallan is around 20-25cm (8-10") shorter than Kaladin and so should be at his chin-level if I was being accurate. I upsized her (maybe she's standing on a box like they use when filming kissing scenes?) to make the heights slope evenly But Eshonai really is a 215cm (7') giant who towers over all the human characters when she's in Shardplate. I always imagined Amaram to look like the Alethi model illustration in the fashion folio from WoR. And his uniform is a similar design to the Kholin officer one, but in green with rectangular shoulder patches and yellow and white piping. He also has flash cufflinks and cravat stickpin.
