  1. I've been thinking about Shallan and her weakness in soul casting. To use lightweaving Shallan finds drawing helps. And subjects she's drawn "as they could be" do tend to change as a result, largely because they like the image they see more than how they've been. In book 2 I believe she even began discussing sketches as living, and as buds of souls clipped free and all this dramatic stuff. Even Veil and Radiant came out of her drawing herself as she could be, and wanted to be. But radiant and veil aren't simply illusions, nor does she really exhibit true DID symptoms until she read more into them (yes I know real life reasons for that one, but it still affects canon). I believe because they are soulcast versions of herself who become more unstable when she's less sure of who she is and wants to be, and who cannot truly coexist with her (as identity seeks to be one in all three realms). Even her perception of them as symptoms of mental illness likely affected how they functioned according to how she/they saw her/themselves. But beyond herself she changed bluth, elhokar, possibly all the deserters really. On a tangent of Shallan sketching powers here's a couple less related oddities I've seen. 1) her tendency to really want to draw people right before they (presumably) die. Yalb, jasnah, bluth, elhokar. Even capsule to a degree (though he had asked her. Odd how she took an image of him when they first met, but never put it to paper. Guess she got busy, but she did say having the images in her mind made it cluttered and harder to focus or think, so it's still odd to me). It feels like something from the spiritual realm compels her (not unlike the effects an unmade or even another ancient and powerful spren may have. Not enough to really know what's happening, too much of a pattern to be nothing) 2) her ability to glimpse into shadesmare unconsciously while drawing. Specifically by having cryptics invade sketches she's doing of people who are plotting or being deceitful (taravangian and capsule, I think there was another though. I don't think elokhar, though he should have been followed by a cryptic since before they even met considering his complaints of seeing symbol heads in mirrors way back in book 1 marking it as another oddity of her power really. Though she could just control that aspect of it better by book 3). Definitely makes me think she can connect with things in shadesmare through visual communication more easily than the more direct methods jasnah would prefer though. Maybe less sketching specifically, but maybe lightweaving scenes so that a rock can see the change into a gemstone that would be treasured and less lonely etc
  2. Basically what the title says. RoW spoilers. Unless I'm missing something, Shallan's 3rd Ideal was acknowledging that she killed her father - then she used Pattern as a Blade in WoR. Her 4th comes at the end of WoR, the death of her mother, and Radiant (who seems Shallan's way of bypassing the 4th Truth) has Plate in the battle of Thaylen Field. Then the truth about Testament would be her 5th. But there are still things for her to overcome. Even if Radiant is a mask to hide from the 4th Truth (and only merging her back would give Shallan full access to the Plate), there is the question of her family's relation with the Ghostbloods and how she bonded Testament in the first place. It seems big enough to be a Truth too. It's been hinted at that Shallan believes she can find out the truth herself, without Mraize revealing it, if only she can face her past. So, do you think it's possible that Lightweavers say as many Truths as it takes? Is there maybe some WoB on it?
  3. Do you think Shallan will have a child? (Or should?)
  4. I know there is already a thread on the Mistborn Movie cast, but I didn’t see one on the Stormlight Archive. This is where we can speculate on the cast of the Stormlight Archive Movie.

  7. So, I may be coming to this a bit late. However, I cannot sleep and find my mind wandering. Like so many of us here on the 17th shard i took the official radiant quiz. To my immense surprise I got lightweaver as my top result. Thus, due to a slightly narcissistic curiosity I decided to research them more. While the official descriptions brandon gave are great. I must confess still find myself wondering about the character of prospective lightweavers. Sure many are artists and the spren are drawn to those who deceive themselves. Yet, we see soldiers, prostitutes, artists, and a spy join as well. Some of whom seem to have no artistic inclinations. So I guess I'm curious if someone can help me discern the greater truth as to what makes a lightweaver. Furthermore, what else draws a cryptic to bond them beyond a propensity for self delusion? What traits truly make one a good fit for the order? afterword thank you all for reading and engaging in advance. I appreciate your thoughts and your indulgence of my inquiry.
  8. So, I’ve been re-reading WoR (for the...7th time, maybe? I’ve lost count...) and one of the things that stood out to me was Shallan’s flashbacks. Now, I know there’s a lot of hate for Shallan out there, but I actually really like her and her flashbacks especially. I was wondering what you guys thought about the WoR flashbacks. Now, some ground rules: (because of the aforementioned Shallan-haters) Be respectful. If you don’t like her, fine, but be kind, please. This isn’t a breakdown of “this is why I hate Shallan in book so-and-so” I’m specifically talking about the chapters in WoR about her past. All opinions are welcome, but again, be nice I’m excited to hear what you guys think!

  11. A comment on YouTube was the inspiration for this one.
  12. I just finished the book and I was coming here specifically to ask what Pattern was doing in Chapter 75 when Shallan was spying on the potential Restares (but it was actually a different human). In reviewing the book, I realized this was Testament. Holy cow, that is so good! I don't know anyone personally who is reading this series so I don't have anyone to talk to about this... I just want to say, this was so, so, so good. I never suspected Shallan was bonded to a different Cryptic earlier in her life. And it was so sweet to finally see Veil's purpose fulfilled. Anyway, I guess this is a weird topic. I just wanted to throw that out there. Thanks.
  13. In an alternate universe, there was a writing machine named Branderbot 2000 who churned out romance novels 3 times a year, like clockwork. His most popular series featured a tall, dark and broodingly mysterious protagonist who went around shirtless and sparkling glowing.
  14. I can’t find the quote, but sometime in RoW as Raboniel is corrupting the Sibling, Venli (I think) mentions she is using the Surge of Transformation. The Sibling reveals to Navani that Raboniel is Unmaking them. In WoR, Pattern implies that Shallan used the same Surge to convert the deserters, meaning that Transformation seemingly has uses beyond Soulcasting. Would it be too much of a stretch to assume Jasnah or a member of the Unseen Court could unUnmake (or Remake) one of the Unmade?
  15. So far it seems as if Shallan and Adolins next step is to find BAM and release her, as they both have deadeye spren and Kalak indicated that BAM being captured lead to dead eyes. However there are only ten days left till the battle of champions and they are stuck in the middle of shadesmar, more than ten days away from the closest perpindicularity. So by that logic BAM is most likely in shadesmar and within ten days journey. Kalak was there for the capture of BAM so he could have her in shadesmar. But if he did he likely would have told Adolin and Shallan at the end of RoW when they all talked together about BAM, dead eyes, and Maya. However we know that another Herald was there at the capture of BAM other than Kalak. We know acording to maps and RoW that Lasting Integrity is on the between Tukar and Emul right near where Dalinar and Odiums forces faced each other, and where Dalinar talked to Ishar. AT the end of which Ishar went into the congnitive realm. So he is somewhere close to Lasting Integrity in the cognitive realm. I believe that Ishar was the other Herald there for the capturing of BAM and that the radiants gave him the perfect gem that holds BAM. Because if he has it, Shallan and Adolin could get it from him within the ten days as he is right outside Lasting Integrity. But there is more, near the end of RoW dead eyes started gathering outside Lasting Integrity. The honorspren said it was because they were finally going to get justice, but what if instead they were drawn to BAM. Because again acording to Kalak dead eyes only occured after BAM's capture and said that BAM was conected to all of Roshar including spren. So the dead eyes could still be connected to BAM enough that they are drawn to where she is. In that case it would mean that BAM was near the border of Tukar and Emul, right where Ishar was, waiting for Dalinar. In sumation, another Herald was at BAM's capture, dead eyes who only exist because of BAM's capture are flocking to Tukar and Emul's border where Ishar is, Ishar went through a perpindicularity and is now right outside Lasting Integrity, and there are only ten days left for Adolin and Shallan to find and free BAM. The only logical thing is that Ishar has BAM.
  16. After Shallan kills her mother her dad sticks the Testamentblade into his strong box and then shallan kills testament which I assume would leave testament as a blade. What happened to that blade?
  17. The Ghostbloods make an offer - and woe betide those who think they can refuse. Top, from left to right: Mraize, Iyatil, Kelsier, Spook Bottom: Shallan The cat is a random cat Kelsier picked up outside. Bonus points to those who know their Godfather lore. (Do I think Kell being the Godfather of the Cosmere mafia is both awesome and totally fitting for the character? Yes. Yes, I do.)
  18. From the album: Stormlight Papercutting

A papercut of Shallan and Pattern. I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
