  1. A duralumin Ferring can store Connection, and a duralumin Compounder can have unlimited Connection. How can our Compounder use this to become a Mistborn? Lerasium Lerasium, Preservation's godmetal, grants Allomancy. To do this, it rewrites your Spiritual DNA, increasing your Connection to Preservation. For Allomancers, metals are a 'key' that lets them use Preservation's Investiture through the Connection. Duralumin Feruchemy: A duralumin Ferring can store Connection. Since tin and nicrosil Ferrings can store selectively, duralumin Ferrings should be able to do the same. Everyone on Scadrial is Connected to Preservation, so a duralumin Ferring should be able to store this once he knows what he's looking for. Allomancy: A duralumin Misting can burn duralumin. If he's also a duralumin Ferring, he can burn his own metalminds for tenfold return-this is called compounding. It's not really infinite Feruchemy, though-a compounder is still limited by how fast they can burn their metalminds. With just a few flakes of steel, Wax can Steelpush for quite a while, so burning seems pretty slow. It would take a while for a normal compounder to get through a metalmind. Our duralumin compounder is not a normal compounder, though. Duralumin Allomancy burns through metals instantly and releases all the power at once, so our compounder is not limited by burning speed. He can get absurd amounts of Connection to Preservation instantly. Savancy: Using lots of Investiture rewrites your Spiritweb, making you a savant. If you're constantly tapping huge amounts of Connection to Preservation, savancy might rewrite your sDNA to have a permanent Connection with Preservation. If it doesn't, then a duralumin compounder can still be a Mistborn-he just has to tap Connection when he wants to use Allomancy. Other Theories The Set's breeding program: As of Bands of Mourning, the Set seem to have changed their goals. Even if the breeding program continues, a child of two Allomancers should have around the same Allomantic potential as their parents, so where does the Mistborn come from? Hemalurgy: That would take a lot of spikes. Harmony could control them easily, and if he didn't care about it, a regular Soother supported by a Nicroburst would do the trick too. It wouldn't be hard to deal with a Mistborn made this way. Nicrosil Compounding: Unsealed metalminds interfere with each other, but if that's solved, then a nicrosil compounder could become Mistborn with medallions. However, since they can compound the ability to use Allomancy, their Allomancy could be as powerful as the Lord Ruler's. That's too powerful-a serial killer with the Lord Ruler's Allomancy could kill everyone in a city with Rioting alone. Kelsier: He made the Bands of Mourning. He's probably Fullborn, so he can only lose by act of God. Also, removing Kelsier's eye-spike would remove his Connection to the Physical Realm, and that sounds a lot like 'removing the Lord Ruler's bracers means that he ages to dust'.
  2. How did ruin and preservation create Scadrial , we know the planet was not already there and we know they created all of the life there , my question is how did they do that ? Did they simply use space dust that was already present or did they convert their investiture directly into matter ??? I'm just confused
  3. In WoA , why didn't leras feed the larasium to sazed. A fullborn would have been an incredible help against ruin , especially since he wouldn't be dependent on atium compounding like tlr . Also couldn't the lerasium have been split so that elend could survive while Sazed became fullborn. I mean elend had to die anyway for Vin to be able to kill ati in the first place right. Could Sazed being depressed have led to him being useless , even with fullborn abilities ? What might have Happened if Sazed had ingested the lerasium ??
  4. How long does it take to shatter a shard the way odium does compared to the slow strangulation used by ruin against preservation ? Why is the shatter method perceived as being so quick if honor had time to create the stormfather and rant and rave about the knights radiant destroying the world with their surgebinding.
  5. Question is in the title: If Sazed Was Killed but his shard(s) were not splintered, would they appear as two, Preservation and Ruin, or one, Harmony?
  6. Hi! Just joined because I have a question. I remember reading a line by Ruin about the morality of shards and saying that Preservation would keep the world in stasis so people wouldn’t get hurt. Unfortunately, I can’t find it in my copy of Hero of Ages. I don’t think I’m misremembering because I’ve seen other people make reference to it but to the best of my efforts I can’t find it.
  7. If a normal human on Scadrial were to drink from the Well of Ascension, would they become an Allomancer? Would a human on Sel drinking from the Pool become an Reod Elantrian, as they don't have the Dominion part of the Dor in their body? What would happen if someone drank world-specific Investiture?
  8. So I just finished listening to the first era of Mistborn last week, and I’m a little confused about something, namely what exactly did Preservation do to keep Ruin ‘imprisoned’ for so long? Because the way it’s described in Secret History makes it seem like he ‘physically’ locked Ruin away in the Well (at least that’s how Kelsier perceives it). But when Kelsier says that to Fuzz he basically calls him an ignorant fool for saying something so silly. So what exactly did Fuzz do? Was it just that he essentially ‘enveloped’ Ruin with his own power such that Ruin wasn’t really able to affect anything because Preservation’s own power would counter it? If so then how did the Well figure into it? Clearly the Well was only a fraction of Preservation’s total power. Even after listening to Secret History a second time I’m still confused about this. Note: I understand the Atium part.
  9. If you don't know what Miasma Theory is, there is a Wikipedia article, but I can't add links yet, sorry. Miasma theory is the theory that was believed to be correct by most of the scientific community until germ theory was proposed. It theorizes that diseases were caused by miasma, which was basically "bad air", or "night air". What does this sound similar to? Mist comes out at night, and it causes sickness to scadrians. I think Brandon might've been inspired by Miasma theory when creating the concept of the mists and mist sickness. Kind of farfetched, but hey, maybe its true. Does anybody know if this idea has been discussed before, or if Brandon has ever talked about Miasma theory?
  10. Ever had one of those thoughts that made you think I am the only person in the whole world who could have thought this, and disregarding everything else - this makes me special (in an endearing way I'm sure) So, Theory Magic Time.. (TMT) Is Preservation's / Leras's plan concluded? To expand: was Fuzz's "brilliant" plan only to deal with Ruin / Ati and create Harmony or is his "plan" still happening and potentially have greater Cosmere implications than has been insinuated.? I know I know, its heavily implied that this master plan was to deal with events in Mistborn Era 1, but!! It is Mr Sanderson.. Anyone else feel a curve ball here? Guys, I'm afraid i shall need some input here as I've only got my swelled head to put me in his place.. !~ HIF ~!
  11. I don’t really have any evidence for this assumption, at least not hard evidence. However, in the scene where he accidentally walks in on Shallan in a nightgown, I noticed something odd he said. He said, “...my name is Adolin Kholin, I was born under the sign of the nine...” Knowing Brandon, I wouldn’t dismiss this as coincidence out of hand. We know Braize, Odium’s Invested planet, is related to the number nine. Since Preservation’s number was 16, Honor seems to be 10, while Odium is 9. Nine shadows of his Champion, Nine Unmade, etc. We have WoB on that, can’t find it. Anyway, what is “the sign of nine”? Why does it happen that a main character, who has had nothing special happen to him as an individual thus far (at least in comparison) suddenly mention this supposedly unimportant fact in passing? Coincidence? Not likely.
  12. Just finished up The Hero of Ages for an unknown number of re-reads. It's no coincidence that Mistborn's second era takes place 300 years after Kelsier destroyed the Pits of Hathsin, right. Not 200 years, or 500 years. We were told it would be 300 years before Atium could be harvested again. Ruin couldn't annihilate Scadrial because he was missing his body/power/Atium. He was incomplete. Powered but not powerful. Vin's body absorbed all the mist from the skies, so Sazed absorbed a full and complete shard. When Sazed absorbed the dark smoke from Ati's body, he only absorbed an impotent shard, a half-shard perhaps, incomplete. Powered, not even close as powerful as Vin's shard. Harmony still needs the power that Ati/Ruin never got. Harmony is currently under attack from Odium? Or some other shard wanting to remove all life from the sphere. (The Set) Perhaps it's Hoid doing his Adonalsium Round-up Tour, kidding. So, I presume that Harmony moved the Hathsin shardpool/perpendicularity to some crazy hidden underground/underwater inaccessible place waiting for the well/pool/hot tub to fill up again. Marsh is likely guarding it. Harmony likely changed the form of the power from happy lil' god candies to another form, perhaps a cozy hot tub that Harmony could dip his toes in. Thus making him complete, at last. Once he is two completely powerful shards he will toss Odium away from his system for good. Until era three and a cast of all new characters. Thoughts?
  13. I'm gonna say from the very beginning is that my take on this is more on that the HoA being a Discord rather than Harmony. Sorry if the title might not fit the post. Can't think of other title atm. Also not sure how the spoiler policy of OB on Cosmere Theory forum works so better be sure than sorry. Should've been a simply prophecy text that is relevant only to Mistborn Trilogy context that i'm not so sure anymore since it could mean extremely interesting narrative direction for the future of Mistborn franchise and Cosmere in general. Also the very obvious capitalization of the word and the hero of ages prophecy being weirdly word by word accurate(like the "on his arms" or the gender neuter thing) and i don't think Ruin changed the text that much. This kind of theorycrafting also inspired me more after reading Oathbringer where if i assume Rayse wasn't lying would mean that he's actually truly the Shard of Passion but people chose to call him Odium. And i don't think Rayse is lying considering that when he let him experience his infinity like other shards have before(Sazed to Wax during era2) and i don't think shards will lie about their intent to the utmost extent(considering that's what they're endorsing/implementing in the first place) as you would assume especially regarding themselves which Dalinar experienced emotions of all ranges. Even supporting that he might actually be a shard of passion or at least a synonym as his general policy for his army/people has been about passion and his minions claiming interest with Moash due to his "strong passion". So far apart from the manipulations of Ruin of the prophecy of the Hero of Ages. It hasn't lied to us and for some reason i doubt this was either shards doing. Another is that from Era2 Sazed has been stating being tied between the conflict of two shards and still insisting on balancing them. Could it be that him trying to please both masters is what causing his inactivity in the first place and the less he is about balancing the better he is at freedom from both shards. Also kinda makes sense with him being a young vessel which might've occured to other shards who fought their nature at the start. That Oathbringer event may imply that our Hero of Ages might not actually be the intent he says or could eventually change into what it was meant to be. Which brings me to these thoughts about Sazed's actual intent as the wielder of Preservation and Ruin (could've already been theorized by others as well and some i read from other post about discord/harmony) which might be more plausible/possible/would you support ? Harmony is Harmony and i'm wearing too much tinfoil hat i should stop. Sazed ascended as Harmony but is slowly being molded/evolved into Discord. Sazed thinks he's Harmony but he's actually Discord from the very beginning Sazed does not actually care if he's Discord but chose to name himself Harmony maybe for some reason The prophecy is averted abit which is why we have Harmony instead of Discord(not all future sight happening accurately ?) Could it be that his name, intent and being finally becoming Discord is just a matter of acceptance just like his role as the Hero of Ages, or about his acceptance of change/death is a natural thing to connect with Ruin. Could it be ? Questions Does it mean that the reason why Sazed is actually more limited than he should be has more to do with him trying insist he's Harmony(the balance between shards) rather than him being actually discord (the differences between the shards) ? If Sazed remains Harmony till the endgame cosmere does that mean he becomes more active or actually just gets worse and becoming more and more inactive ? What about him becoming discord ? Did we actually misunderstand Harmony and overtime he actually gains more freedom rather than being tied ? That Harmony could actually just do just about anything just like how incredibly flexible autonomy and endowment seems to be ? If assuming him becoming Discord is actually right and gives him freedom. Doesn't that make him incredibly dangerous and finally a big player of cosmere ? Since he's more interactive i assume Thoughts ? Supporting statements? Disagreements ? Theories ? Further Elaborations ? Anything resembling to thoughts about the matter ? Anything is welcome !(so excited about this topic after OB events sinking in and plenty of reading former discussion threads about this here or on reddit)

  15. So, I just finished my Mistborn reread and kept my eyes peeled for hints and clues. When Waxillium 'dies', Harmony says that the body will return to Earth(?), mind to the Cosmere but he does not know where souls go. And it has been mentioned that souls and metal are the same. What if souls go to Preservation's well? That souls are the power of preservation? We know that the power slowly gets refilled every thousand years.
  16. So I just had a thought when looking into both Mistborn and Stormlight Archive. It appears that the raw power of shards is unable to enter buildings for some reason. I'm not sure if it's been discussed before but i'm sure people have noticed how in Mistborn the physical representation of Preservations power, in the form of the Mists, cannot enter buildings and evaporates at the entrance. A similar aspect to this can be seen in the Stormlight archive with, as far as we can tell, the physical representation of Honors power, Stormlight, cannot enter into things perceived as buildings. We see examples of Stormlight passing through Flesh to infuse gems in the form of Kaladins hand when he is left to die in a Highstorm and also in the fact that they are left in lanterns out in a Highstorm to become infused. It also seems weird how Stormlight can pass through the glass to get into a gem inside a Sphere anyways. But from these examples, does it seem to indicate that a shards power can't permeate buildings? And to be clear, i'm not saying that powers granted by a shards investiture cant be used in buildings, as there is much evidence that it can and is used inside a lot in both Mistborn and SA, but what sort of meaning does the possibility that a shards essence cannot permeate buildings?
  17. I've been googling this question all morning, nothing online...so far. Well of Ascension near the end. Vin just slaughtered Straff on his horse, meanwhile at Cett's camp he is taunted by his daughter to help Luthadel, not Straff. Cett ponders why he thought he could seize Luthadel with no Allomancers, then he says this: "Or was it because I was looking for something, a confirmation of the stories, a power like I saw on that night when the air almost killed me." This piqued my interest suddenly. Was Cett snapped by the mist? No, surely he hasn't cowered indoors his whole life like a skaa. I thought about the Mist Spirit aka Preservation. Did Preservation stab Cett? No, he wants stasis, balance, he wouldn't even stab Elend without another spirit forcing him to. But wait, didn't Alendi's party suffer a stab wound on the way to the Well? Perhaps he could attack after all. Did Ruin stab Cett? Could he? All people aid Ruin even if they don't mean to, so why "nearly kill" a pawn in his game. Or, did Preservation's original millennial plan to bring about the Hero of Ages "need" Cett stabbed to coerce him to seize Luthadel and set in motion all the pieces and events needed? Any thoughts? Sorry if this question has been asked and answered, as I said...been googling all morning. Sorry about the stream of consciousness gab earlier. What was Brandon Sanderson referring to with that sentence?
  18. In secret history right before preservation dies he tells kelsier that he can't take the power he doesn't have an infinity mind. (I don't have the quote so that about as goo as I can do) That was after kel had jumped into the well so his soul had expanded. But not his mind? so what is this infinity mind and how do I get one. Clearly the shards have one or at least eventually got one after having there shard for so long. Does a coper mind ferochemist have one. What would happen to some one in the physical realm with an infinity mind does it let them focus on everything or just remember. Could you locate some one with an infinity mind or even better does it let you world hop?
  19. framecio

    One sliver

My take on Preservation, as he is giving humans a sliver of himself.
  20. think I know who knows, or rather, knew, where the remains of the weapon is: Preservation! in secret history, Preservation says "I needed a sign. Something he couldn't change. A sign of the weapon I'd buried. The boiling point of water, I think. Maybe it's freezing point? But what if the units change over the years? I needed something that would be remembered always. Something they'll immediately recognize. Sixteen." a sign of the weapon, and sixteen, being one of those signs, and how many Shards it split Adonalsium into, is too much of a coincidence. Also, Ruin and Preservation created Scadrial, so they could design aspects of it in special ways. If he had buried it at the core of the planet, no one would be able to get to it, not on the Physical Realm, not without Either Ruin or Preservation noticing, and they wouldn't be able to get to it in the Cognitive Realm, as the investiture in metal makes it so that Shards cannot touch or influence it and probably are unable to get past it, so Shards would not be able to get to the core of the planet, because the inner and outer cores would be made out of metal. In addition, Ruin and Preservation are so heavily invested in the planet that they can't leave, so that would make them Guards that can't leave their posts. The only thing I can't figure out is what the boiling/freezing point of water has to do with the weapon of opposition of Adonalsium. What do you guys think?
  21. Over in this thread, it was mentioned that we have this WoB from an inscription: "Preservation was the first shard to be held by someone outside the original 16." Assuming this refers to the events in Mistborn era 1, do we think it is possible that any of the Shard holders initially picked up one Shard but then traded with one of the other Vessels for another? If so, any speculation on who might have traded and why?
  22. Does anyone think it is possible to have a lerasium ferring? Also what would their ability be?
  23. I've read Mistborn era 1 twice, as well as the rest of the Cosmere, and have visited Coppermind.net, numerous times. But I can't quite get a grasp on how exactly the shard magic on Scadrial works. Regarding the physical form of the Shards: Solid=metal, liquid=shardpool, gas=mist? But... Where is Ruin's mist? How come there are only two beads of Lerasium and lots more of Atium? Where is Atium's liquid? What is the phase change process? Once burned, how does it recycle? If the solid/liquid/gas are the physical aspects of the shards, why are the cognitive aspects of the vessels so detached? Or are they? Why can Ati not sense his own body through metal? Once Harmony is in charge, how do all those aspects transfer to him consistently?
  24. I'm back! I know I've been absent for a while (and I think I was midway through a conversation on another thread when I left; awkward!). I'm just here to post a theory in the vain hope no one else has thought of it before me (like what happened last time...) Onto the Theory/Hunch: relatively recently I encountered a WoB that blew my mind: Source Now you may recall me theorizing back in 2013 that, just as one acquires Allomancy through burning (Lerasium), one would acquire Feruchemy through tapping. You also may recall that the Well of Ascension (and its cache of Lerasium beads, encased in their weird pottery) was formerly in Terris. My theory is this... Feruchemy came from the ancestors of the Terris, to whom the prophecies were given, tapping the beads of Lerasium at the Well of Ascension to gain Feruchemy. Once each bead's charge was tapped, they were left at the Well; either no one told them the beads could be burned (and why would you stick something sacred in your mouth?), or else the beads didn't have the Allomancy charge at that stage. If the latter, it is possible that being left at the well gave them the ability to make Allomancers, though that is just idle speculation, and not directly relevant to my totally iron clad speculation that the beads were the source of Feruchemy. Thoughts? Further evidence? We-thought-of-this-ages-ago-Kadrok-go-back-to-the-rock-you've-been-hiding-under?
