What are the mist spren that work as crew on Honor's Path. People have said that they are the truthwatcher spren, but I think the difference in appearance between of refracted light and mist with doll like hands and face is too big. I think they might be another sentient spren that simple does not or cannot create a nahel bond. Based on things that have happened in previous cosmere books I think it would make more sense if there were not 10, but 16 sentient types of spren.

Um, OB spoilers. So, Cultivation removed Dalinar's memories in order to cultivate him, much like a gardner would remove branches or shoots from a tree that have fouled for some reason in order for growth to happen, maybe to be grafted in at a later date when they could help the tree instead of harm it. So Cultivation starts returning Dalinar's pruned memories, and Dalinar later in the book realizes that Odium intended to return the memories all at the same time, which probably would have overwhelmed him to the point of giving up his pain. So Cultivation had a really smart plot for foiling Odium by using Dalinar. Why the mysterious tenth pancake did the Diagram order Dalinar's execution, and when that failed, removal from power and humiliation? Why did cultivation not try to stop that? If she had the Foresight to cultivate Dalinar in order to be able to resist Odium, then why were her Diagrammists actively trying to subvert what she was working on?

Would it be possible for someone to use an Honorblade to an extent that they began to enter savanthood. Soulcasters can become savants but could an Honorblade.

I'm re-reading OB again. In chapter 39, the Knights Radiant are meeting. Pattern comments to Shallan that the room has memories. Shallan mentions it to Jasnah, suggesting that she inspect it in Shadesmar. I don't recall anything coming of it, or even being mentioned again. Before I keep reading and forget about it, I figured I'd ask here. Does this come up again? If not, has anyone asked Brandon about it?

This is really just a discussion for everyone to add their ideas onto, but to get it started off: Whether a member dies while fighting the fused, a freak accident, or while protecting someone else, the most likely candidates for who I think will kick the bucket in Bridge 4 would have to be Lopen, Rock, and Teft. While I don't necessarily think they'll have to die in order for Kaladin to swear the 4th ideal, I do think their deaths could be his breaking point. And if there's anything that Sanderson likes to do with characters, it's break them. After working so hard to protect Bridge 4 and essentially bring them out of the trenches, it would tear Kaladin apart to see one of them die- or even get injured as we saw in Words of Radiance with Hobber. So while that's true, the most impactful deaths for the reader would be a character that we've been the given the chance to get to know. And so that brings my first candidate, Lopen. I have to say that he is the most probable character for me as of now. Lopen is sort of like a class-clown in Bridge 4 in that he tends to mess and joke around much more than the others, and so it would come as a shock to the readers to suddenly have him cut down and die, leaving a hole in Bridge 4. Without Lopen, they'd be out of a serious need for laughter and light-heartedness and anyone who knows Bridge 4's story knows that that's something they desperately need. Next up is Rock, but I will admit that I don't think Sanderson will kill Rock- at least not in the first half of the books. The biggest reason he just made my list is because of how much it would hurt the readers. Rock has been a big figure in Bridge 4 since the beginning, and with just that it would make his death heartbreaking. But adding on to how we were able to meet his family in Oathbringer and seeing just how much he cares about everyone around him with the chapters from his point-of-view, the readers would definitely be in tears. Add on the possibility of him dying while trying to tell Kaladin about the Horneater Peaks (of which he always told Kaladin he'd bring him to) and Sanderson has a whole fanbase weeping. Now is the time for Teft. Teft's death seems both logical and inevitable to me. He served as a friend and leader to Bridge 4 and was a major reason for them getting as strong as they currently are with him helping to train them. The only person to play a bigger role in the rehabilitation of Bridge 4 is Kaladin, and Kaladin himself holds high respect for Teft. Bottom line, his death would be devastating to the moral of Bridge 4. Without Teft, I'm not entirely sure how Bridge 4 would carry on. Everything they would do would remind them that Teft isn't there as it was Teft who helped to train them with the spear, first told them of the Radiant powers with Kaladin, and essentially acted as a grumpy uncle. That's all from me. Tell me what you guys think! How would the other members react to one of their own dying? What would it mean for the story? HOW do you think they'd die?

This thread is to discuss some duels or match ups that we would love to fight one on one but due to death/location/alliances we will never get to see them clash. The main duel I would love to see is Dalinar vs Kalladin but from a couple of different perspectives. Just looking for friends to talk and debate about the world of Roshar. I'm planning on reading all of Sanderson's work but I've only read Stormlight Archive so far. I audible while I'm at work so I don't have anyone else to talk to about the books I listen to and I'm sick of not being able to yarn after something life changing happens at the end of a chapter ha-ha.

Just what the title asks: If you had a chance to Q&A with Jasnah, what would you ask her? (I'm thinking post-Oathbringer questions) Mine are - What was it like growing up with Gavilar and Navani as parents? As Alethkar's new leader, what do you plan to do about the new Desolation? What do you think of the prohibition of men not being able to read or write?

If I understand the big ‘humans are voidbringers’ thing Odium created humans on Ashyn and Honor and Cultivation created the singers. But then during the subsequent Desolations (if we count the arrival of humans or maybe the moment they broke the agreement and left Shinovar as a first desolation) the Shards changed sides with Odium helping the singers and Honor and Cult aiding humans. Do we know why they decided to switch? If not, I’m curious to hear your theories. I think it’s odd for Honor to support humans since they supposedly broke the agreement and attacked the singers taking their land. That seems like an oath broken but obviously we don’t have a full story yet. On the other hand, Odium doesn’t seem to care much about anything except destroying other Shards so I don’t see why would he suddenly change his favored race unless it would help him with that or Honor changed first.

This quote, one of the OB epigraphs, obviously indicates the Radiant who used this gemstone had some ability to see into the future. From looking at other epigraphs (that will not be cited here for convenience), I can assume that the gemstone indicates the order of Radiant. Those claiming to be Stonewards always use topaz, for instance. Emerald is the gemstone associated with Truthwatcher. Glys is the only Truthwatcher spren we know of that has been corrupted to grant the Knight the ability to see the future. I believe this message was from one of Glys' former Radiants.

One of my favorite songs is Unpack Your Heart by Phillip Phillips. After reading Oathbringer, and thinking on the rest of the series, I was able to come up with a scene that matched just about every scene. Examples: "Bring your secrets," --Shallan in a Lightwoven replica of her room "Bring your scars"--A single shot of Kaladin's brands, and so on. Thoughts? I just thought it fit well with the Knights Radiant as a whole.

If anyone noticed, both Way of Kings and Words of Radiance were named after books inside of the books (yeah, it's a bit strange.) Therefore, the book really should have been titled Mythica, after the book on the unnamed. It has more relevance to the novel than Oathbringer, too. What's up with that?

I'm now on my third trip through the Stormlight books, I realized that on the night of Gavilar's assassination, at the party, Szeth walks by an old man he thinks is drunk... But it's actually Jezrien himself!!!!!!! He says the same thing at the end of Oathbringer before Moash kills him. An Easter-egg across 3 books... nice

I've been meaning to post this thread for more than a year, but I just want someone else to appreciate as much as I do how perfectly the music and lyrics to the songs on Snow Patrol's album "A Hundred Million Stars" fit the plot and themes in Oathbringer. As a teaser, here's the chorus from the first track, "If There's A Rocket Tie Me to It": A fire, a fire You can only take what you can carry A pulse, your pulse It's the only thing I can remember I break, you don't I was always set to self-destruct though The fire, the fire It cracks and barks like primal music A sampling of some of the other titles: "Take Back the City" (*cough* Kolinar), "Please Just Take These Photos From My Hands" (about unwanted memories), and "The Lightning Strike." I could flush everything out for you all, but I'm just going to leave it here for you to discover yourself instead.

The process of Oathgate transportation is likely Physical -> Cognitive -> Spiritual -> Cognitive -> Physical in another location, with the Cognitive bit going by too fast to notice. Is this related, perhaps, to the two spren of the Oathgates? One is white, one is dark. The Cognitive is (mostly) an obsidian wasteland and the Spiritual is described as a place of blinding white light. Now, in order to corrupt the destination of an Oathgate, such as the one in Alethkar, would you not have to corrupt the Spiritual one? Then, you cannot be transferred to the Spiritual Realm and come out in a different place, and instead are stuck in Shadesmar, again, as shown in the Alethkar venture in Oathbringer. What happens if Sja-anat were to corrupt the Cognitive Realm spren? Do you just disappear, or go nowhere, or skip directly to the Spiritual (unlikely, because that would be really difficult to do, I believe)?

It...has to do with the Unmade, right? That's about all I know.

Back in Way of Kings, chapter 19, Dalinar is having one of his visions. It's the scene where he acts as Heb, husband to Taffa, and protects his family alongside two Radiants. At the end of the chapter, the female Radiant says, “Every pasture needs three things. Flocks to grow, herdsmen to tend, and watchers at the rim. We of Alethela are those watchers—the warriors who protect and fight. We maintain the terrible arts of killing, then pass them on to others when the Desolation comes.” When I reread Oathbringer, Kaladin says to his father in chapter 7, "You're a surgeon, Father, but I'm something else. A watcher at the rim." Kaladin never experienced the visions, thus never heard the Radiant's words. Was this poetic overlap on Brandon's part? Or just something the Radiants intrinsically feel about themselves?

Just a wild idea that came to me when I was reading a Brandon forum. There were 10 Heralds for the Oathpact, right? And supposedly 10 books will be published for the SA series, each book with a focal character. What if those 10 focal characters will be responsible for taking the place of the previous Heralds? It would be a suitably melancholy end to the series — I would be satisfied with it, anyway. Additionally, Brandon noted that the series will be split into two sets of 5. I think it'd make sense if the first half of the story was focused on the Radiants rise to power, and the last half was focused on their end. With their end would come the end of the Desolations, as well, which would make for a distinct close indeed.

(3 posts in one day. I'm on a roll. Reading OB for 3 hours this morning makes me curious.) Anyway, I seem to remember Jasnah being competent with a Shardblade. That could just be my love-struck brain embellishing that time when she threatened someone with her Blade (can't, for the life of me, remember who), but even if it is, it's slightly odd that she can hold back a legion of Fused with no martial training. Alone. Unless I'm missing something about the fantastical abilities provided by Elsecalling, which, don't get me wrong, I totally want but am skeptical of.

I was rereading chapter 32 of OB and guys... Does it seem to anyone else like Jasnah's rejoining of the story felt kinda...skipped over? I think this whole arc would have been a very good window into Jasnah's character and her relationships with her family; i.e. it'd be real easy for Brandon to show she's not an emotionless slab of granite (cue Dalinar's mention of Momvani's and Jasnah's reunion), as so many readers seem to think. For such a sudden plot twist, Brandon really let it fall flat, which, as far as I've seen, is not like him. The only explanation is that this must be purposeful. Any thoughts?

Hello! Fairly new to the Shard and this is my first post. I apologize if this topic has been covered but I searched and couldn't find a direct answer. I have recently finished my third listen of Oathbringer and started thinking about greater implications of Odium's creepy new dagger. If Ishar is killed (for real) by this dagger, will the requirement of Oaths become removed from the nahel bond? Since Honor is dead, it seems like the rules of being a Radiant are already starting to flex and bend more and more, what with the Skybreakers literally fighting for Odium, or Malata and her very anti-social spren who seem largely intent on destruction for its own sake. However, it seems like the first Oath is still required for the bond to form, regardless of the difference of other higher Oaths. Since Ishar was the one who decided to implement the Knights Radiant and lay down this codification of Oaths, would his death lead to the relaxation of this requirement? Would we get the problems on Roshar that Nohadon speaks of in Dalinar's flashbacks, with surgebinders that can bond spren in a more private contract between just the two of them, allowing someone who is less-than-nice to wield great powers? Would this in turn actually cause the destruction of Roshar - as feared by Honor in his last days - due to surgebinding? It seems like Honorspren have always largely been rather strict with their bonded human partners, but I get the sense other spren wouldn't be nearly so choosy or demanding unless they had to be. And if Ishar isn't the one holding the collective Radiant spren to the necessity of Oaths, then what is? I get the impression that the spren aren't exactly all in a unanimous vote with one another about most things. What else, aside from divine/semi-divine will, could cause all of them to agree on Oath requirements? The other option could, of course, be that Cultivation would hold everyone to the Oaths regardless of Ishar living or not, but she's so mysterious and rarely seems interested in interfering with humans in a large, authoritative oversight kind of way. I'm really hoping one or more of you clever people have some answers or ideas!
