  1. The Ghostbloods make an offer - and woe betide those who think they can refuse. Top, from left to right: Mraize, Iyatil, Kelsier, Spook Bottom: Shallan The cat is a random cat Kelsier picked up outside. Bonus points to those who know their Godfather lore. (Do I think Kell being the Godfather of the Cosmere mafia is both awesome and totally fitting for the character? Yes. Yes, I do.)
  2. So on Roshar we have the ten surges. The Heralds were given special magic swords, later known as the Honorblades, which granted them access to these mystical powers. As a matter of fact, anyone who bonds one of these blades is granted access to its surges. We also know that spren saw this, and decided they could mimic it. If a spren bonds with a human, through a process known as the Nahel bond, they can grant said human access to the surges as well, and even manifest physically as a replica of one of these swords. Jump cut to Scadrial, where we have a different kind of bond. But is it really so different after all? Sure, the powers are a little different, and you get them not by acting a certain way, but just by having the right amount of investiture in your bloodline. Remember though - something of the Nahel bond is hereditary too. No, not the powers, unfortunately, but there is a physiological difference between the offspring of a surgebinder and the offspring of anyone else. Their eyes. Okay, so what exactly is @Narcoleptic Axolotl proposing here, (you might ask yourself)? Well, I'm glad you asked. . . . yourself. . . . Whatever. I think it's reasonable that Harmony could create weapons that would bestow upon the holder all the powers of a mistborn and full feruchemist. Not totally unlike what the Bands did. You would still need your own metals and metalminds, just like Szeth still needed his own stormlight. And, just like the honorblades, these 'harmonyblades' wouldn't allow for quite the level of efficiency that an invested person can operate with. That meaning, you would have to flare your metals higher to get the same strength a mistborn has. And, while it's not clear what a lack of efficiency in feruchemy would mean, you'd have that too. Now, let's consider the last of the metallic arts. Hemalurgy. I don't think it makes any sense to think the harmonyblade would grant hemalurgic power, unless holding it made you perfectly aware of all the hemalurgic bind points. As useful as that might be, that's not the most interesting aspect of the harmonyblade with hemalurgy. We can assume that the honorblades, like shardblades, are made of Honor's godmetal, Tanavastium. (This WoB is a little confusing, but I've highlighted the part that matters.) So presumably these harmonyblades (maybe harmony-spears, given the spear's significance in Scadrian history) would be made of Harmony's godmetal, Harmonium aka Ettmetal. So, hypothetical scenario, someone's using a harmonyspear and stabs a metalborn. What happens? What attribute is stolen? Surely not nothing. We know godmetals can steal attributes: (again, you need only read the highlighted part.) Well, that's where I come up short. According to the coppermind, Harmonium is extremely reactive with water, and of course blood is like 98% water. (Disclaimer: don't know for sure about that and don't care.) So a spike made of harmonium would be pretty impractical. Maybe stabbing someone with your harmonyspear is a bad idea, because as soon as it pierces the skin, your spearhead starts exploding. Imagine that. Maybe go with a warhammer then? Maybe don't use it as a weapon. After all, its most useful aspect is granting you all allomantic and feruchemical powers. With those, you almost don't need a sword. Just go with obsidian daggers or something, that's stylish in its own way. Okay, that's all I got. Interesting stuff, right?
  3. Hello folks, I had a question about when Kelsier is committing a felony break and enter at the Ire base. So it's shown to us that at first he does not understand the language being spoken and as he spends time in the base he is slowly able to understand the language (presumably a form of sellish). So my question is: why is Kelsier becoming Connected with Sel at this moment, my current understanding is that it has something to do with the "blue energy" being pumped into the wall he's scaling which I am assuming is some distilled form of the Dor. So Kelsier is absorbing some of the Dor as he climbs the wall thus building his connection enough to understand the language. This is my first time posting in the Q&A forms, sorry if this question has been answered a million times over.
  4. This post contains spoilers for Mistborn Era 2. You have been warned. Big brain idea: Szeth is no longer Shin, he has been replaced by a Kandra. Specifically, Paalm. The art for the chapters with Szeth's POV have him making a facepalm, or "the face of Paalm," so to speak. It's just crazy enough to be true. We don't really get to know any Shin other than Szeth, so there's no way to tell if this is acting, but Paalm is a commensurate actor. Szeth is also moderately unstable, as was Paalm. Furthermore, the fact that Szeth has a Nahel Bond does not disprove this theory, as per this WoB: Lastly, there was some time between the death of Lessie (AKA Paalm) and Paalm's reappearance in Shadows of Self, I believe Paalm spent this time on Roshar disguised as Szeth. This lines up with the Cosmere timeline, as Mistborn Era 2 occurs ~9-10 years after the first Roshar quintology as per this spreadsheet made by the excellent BeskarKomrk. This probably means that Trell is somehow connected to Roshar, possibly an agent or manifestation of Odium, but I digress. What do you think? Is Szeth sus? Am I crazy? Can we trust the POV of a character who has suffered severe mental trauma?
  5. EVERYBODY NEEDS TO READ MISTBORN SECRET HISTORY. I just started reading it and it has explained so mush about anything from Hoid to Thaidakar.
  6. I wasn't sure whether I should post this on the warbreaker or mistborn forum, so here it is: If you gave a mistwraith enough breath for it to become sapient, would the result effectively be a kandra made without hemalurgy? If so, then Harmony would have no influence over it, but would Endowment?
  7. Ash fell from the sky. Kelsier stared out of his tent, bones frozen. Mare, his wife, curled next to him, shuddering. They waited for death to come, here in the Pits of Hathsin. The prisoners here were less than skaa; they were the dregs of skaa and criminals, slaves that would last months if they were lucky. A week if they were unfortunate. He’d been unlucky this past week. Tomorrow, in the morning, the prisoners would turn over their precious beads of atium. Those who had retrieved some of the metal would win another week of life. The unlucky few who didn’t? They’d be beaten mercilessly, crushed and killed. This was his final night by Mare’s side. He owed his imprisonment to her. He owed his death to her. How could anything else be true? The Lord Ruler himself had thanked her for her betrayal. Kelsier had arrived in the Pits first, alone, and she’d followed within the next two weeks. He stared at the ash. The ashmounts were particularly active tonight. There was no sky. Just the delicate flakes of white, gray; and black, that carpeted the ground just outside the tent. Mare shivered again, and he snaked his arms around her. His arms which were shredded by crawling through the tiniest gaps in the massive maze of the pits, slamming his hands through the razor sharp crystals that created the beads. Blood was a constant companion, this past month, and it was her fault. No. Trust. Just... if he was to die in the morning, he would trust her. He knew it was futile, but he couldn’t stop his body wracking with sobs, his face in her hair. She turned, returning his embrace. “I’m sorry. I forgot to ask. Have you found a bead this time?” Her lips were soft on his collarbone, soft and cold. “No,” he said, unwilling to lie. She had a right to know. She had every right to know that this was their final night. She smiled gently back up at him, dark eyed, her dark hair a beautiful tangle around her face. “I found another,” she said, voice a hiss of secret excitement. “I found a second bead,” she said, and she pressed it into his fingers, then buried her face into his chest. “You’ll live. You’ll be alright. I promise.” Bless her. Damn her. He couldn’t help but love her. He trembled as he held her, too exhausted to do anything more than that. “Thank you,” he breathed, tears on his face. “The ash is supposed to look like snow,” she smiled, distracting him from himself. “Remember what flowers are supposed to look like? Snow was supposed to be blinding, pure, innocent, and white. I’ve never seen anything like it. If you squint, you can see it.” He tried. He couldn’t imagine the piercing color. She spoke to him, soothed him, calmed him to his rest. The next morning, he offered up her bead of atium. That morning, she was thrown into the ring of taskmasters, the cruel men with their brutal clubs. That morning, he screamed, pleaded, begged to trade his life for hers. That morning, the ash was stained with something pure and innocent. Only, it wasn’t white. That night, Kelsier burned atium for the first time.
  8. I assume Rayzium (the investiture conducting metal the fuzed use) is the god metal of Rayze (Odium). I also assume that given how spren both come from shards and manifest in the physical realm as metal, this metal is the god metal of the associated shard the spren came from. If this is the case, could a mistborn burn a shardblade? If so, what would that do to the spren?
  9. A random thought just occured to me and I wanted to run the idea across other people to see if it might have some merit. Fabrials, medallions and any other "tech" based magic system comes from the Invention shard. These are inventions that allows people access to powers they don't have. I'm looking at hemalurgy as an example. It doesn't matter what planet you are born on as long as you have the right knowledge and intent. It spikes out an ability of one person and grants it to another. Working with the same sort of mechanics but vastly different methods. Could Inventions magic system be the reason why different planets are able to create items that recreate powers. Or am I reading to much into this line of thought?
  10. Not technically Rhythm of War, or even Stormlight Archive, but it’s here due to certain... symbolic elements, shall we say. This isn’t finished (I’ll post the ink version when I have it and the colored one after.) It’s supposed to be Scadrian religious art around Era 3, some time after they’ve figured out that the Survivor and the Sovereign are the same person. This headcannon has marewill as being a symbol associated with the Sovereign, as Kelsier introduced it to the South, which is why it has such a prominent spot in the symbology. And if the three petaled flower bears a striking resemblance to a certain trouble making Cosmere organization’s symbol, well...
  11. At the yt spoiler livestream (which I saw only yesterday, because in my timezone it was live in the middle of the night ) someone asked about why Seons can travel out of Sel even though they're Splinters and Brandon said it was a great question and knowing the answer would help Thaidakar (whom I 100% assume to be Kelsier) a lot. My hypothesis is that Seons have a part of the land they're Connected to inside themselves (the Aon), so they can travel because instead of being anchored to something huge and immobile, they're anchored to something they carry inside. I'm not sure how Vasher being able to worldhop factors into that, maybe the Divine Breath also works as something he can be anchored to? …Anyway now I can't get rid of a mental image of Kelsier traveling, Dracula-style, in a coffin filled with metal shavings from his homeland.
  12. Brandon has said that Era4 will be a clash of cultures. We now know that this will probably involve a Rosharan/Scadrian conflict. And in RoW we’ve seen what may well be its beginnings. So this is what I think will be the heart of the Scadrian/Rosharan conflict. Scadrial is society created by thieves. They revere a conman, Kelsier and venerate am assassin, Vin. They naturally seek the mists, which actively work to conceal Allomancers. They are a society naturally drawn to the shadows. Fighting fair is NOT how they operate. Roshar is the opposite. Knights in literal shining armor, bound to honor codes. The most duplicitous of the Orders revolves around Truths. They’re practically designed for a straightforward fight; you can’t hide if you glow in the dark! I can’t imagine why the Rogue planet doesn’t get along with the Paladin planet... Chaotic Good/Neutral vs. Lawful Good/Neutral... We can see this with the Ghostbloods, which we now know are run by Kelsier. As I’ve pointed out on other threads, they’re on the same side as the coalition - quietly. They want Dalinar to win. But the way they’re doing it (leaving aside the actions of individuals) is not a method most Radiants could approve of. But it gets better. Scadrial is the world most like Earth. It utilizes mechanical industry and the metallic arts. It’s the type of industry that, as we know, can easily scour the land. On top of which, the allomantic and feruchemical arts are internal and intrinsic. And those two combined allow for fairly easy sharing of powers. And then there’s Hemalurgy. The ability to steal any power with the proper training - so long as you’re willing to kill. On Roshar, in contrast, industry is almost entirely Investiture based. And we now know that fabriels can be created by Spren, without needing to harvest resources. On Roshar, industry may very well follow a more symbiotic path; note that much of their nature and their major investiture system is all about symbiosis. The powers so granted, however, are not easily transferred. And while Bondsmiths can more easily manipulate Connection, there are some fairly strict limits (including an inability to travel). Hemalurgy lacks those constraints, being limited only by knowledge and morality. And there are no Oaths to enforce the latter. And what is the Shard of Scadrial? Harmony. What is the hypothesized union of the three Rosharan Shards? Conquest. Honestly, when you look at it, it makes a lot of sense that these two would end up conflicting. The natures of the worlds are inherently opposed.
  13. So it’s been about a year I think since I’ve last posted on here but I’m back with some more custom action figures. Today I have three based on Mistborn and one new stormlight custom. Starting off with Mistborn we have Sazed. He is almost completely repainted from the base figure, the bands and earrings are sculpted on. I would like to find him some glasses but haven’t found any that work yet. I’m pretty happy with how he turned out. My one gripe is that I wish I had chosen brighter colors for his robe. Next we have Marsh (or just a steal inquisitor, I haven’t decided if I want it to actually be Marsh yet). Marsh Steel Inquisitor probably has the most creative process for a custom figure that I’ve ever done. I decided to try to actually drive nails through the figure and it surprisingly worked. I wasn’t sure if it would ruin the base body or mess up the articulation and I’m very happy that it didn’t. The only place where it varies is with the shoulders where I cut the nail and drilled a small divot on the front and back of the shoulder and glued the nails in. If I had tried stabbing the nails through the shoulders, it would’ve ruined the articulation. I do wish I had been a little more careful with the markings around the eyes because they look a little messy but overall I’m very proud of this one. To wrap up the Mistborn customs is Spook. He is probably my favorite of these three Mistborn customs. This is his look from the third book. The body is completely repainted and the cape is some fabric I cut and then burned a bit. His clothing is also supposed to have a singed look. Very happy with this one. Now to the sole Stormlight custom, Navani Kholin! Navani is probably one of the hardest ones I’ve made so far. Her Havah was hand sewn by me and honestly for my first time sewing I think it turned out nicely. Her head was completely repainted by me and I’m really happy with how well the face tone matches the rest of the body as the head was taken from a different figure. This was originally going to be Jasnah but I figured since I couldn’t find a head that fit Jasnah and that she would probably have a dress that allowed for more movement (being a Radiant) Id just make this one Navani. Super happy with this one and since this technique with the dress worked, I’ll probably redo shallan in the same way as I’ve never been very happy with how the first one turned out. thanks for checking out my work! Currently working on a Dalinar and Kaladin (finally) as I found the perfect bodies for them. They should be posted hopefully in December January. I also have ideas for a Breeze, Elend and like I mentioned before Jasnah
  14. From the album: Cosmeme & Crossmere

Alternative Kelsier punching Hoid scene (based on this tumblr meme) (Also in Sanderson Memes thread) Reactions by @Kandra-in-disguise
  15. I have a hypothesis: Shards do not have free will. They are deterministic. This is informed by the fact that a Shard's future sight is impaired by a person seeing the future (Renarin), but we see no sign of Cultivation's future sight having any blotting out affect of Odium's future sight. Now, this could be explained by saying that Cultivation is subtle, and able to mask her intentions from even Fortune from the spiritual realm, but I think it more likely that the Intent of a Shard is so overwhelming that all actions of a Shard are predetermined, but with the ability to see the future can easily look considered to a mortal. Possible exception: a newly ascended vessel may have greater free will. Vin's ability to strike at, and destroy Ati suggests this. If this is true, then Cultivation may be practically blind to the future at the moment, due to Taravangian's combo of future sight, cosmic power, and free will. And Taravangian would not be suffering from the same blindness.
  16. Finished! Nine characters from eight Shardworlds! From left to right: Dusk from First of the Sun / Kaladin from Roshar / Vasher from Nalthis / Hoid from Yolen / Harmony (Sazed) / Khriss from Taldain / Shai from Sel / Vin from Scadrial / Silence from Threnody This piece is also celebratory art! Happy Chinese New Year 2016 (Year of the monkey)! At first I drew these characters mainly for an online fantasy magazine because they kind of let me (as translator of WoR) introduce Stormlight and the whole Cosmere series in their New Year issue, which meant I’d better add some festival stuff. So here it is - Characters from eight different Shardworlds wishing you a Happy New Year! In China, this is a popular traditional gesture when people give New Year’s greetings. It’s called 作揖 (zuò yī, in spoken language: zuō yī). When you do this, you make a bow with hands folded in front of you and greet others at the same time. Raise your folded hands and then lower them. The motion can be repeated several times. For men, they should use their left hand to cover their right hand (In ancient China, men tended to hold weapon with their right hand, so they covered it when saluting, to reduce hostility and show respect.), while for women, they should do it otherwise and it’s better not to clench the left hand into a fist (You can learn this from the picture above.). If you do it wrong, you will convey some ominous meaning. Please be careful # # # Heck, so many tags! Also seriously, I think we may need a Cosmere crossover art album
  17. I'm not sure if this is already a topic somewhere or not, but I couldn't find it, so if it is, let me know! Anyway, what's your favorite Mistborn Era so far, and why?
  18. So, I know that it's possible for a Mistborn to burn a shardblade, but this is my question. If you were a Mistborn and a Knight Radiant, (like Hoid) could you burn a shardblade without summoning the blade into the physical realm? Would this only work for shard-bearers that aren't Knights? Would this harm your spren?
  19. Ishar has shown that a Bondsmith unchained is EXTREMELY POWERFUL AND DANGEROUS. What is either Dalinar or the Bondsmith honorblade were taken off world to Scadrial. The timeline would actually be pretty accurate, and they could arrive about when Wax and the Set are looking for the Bands of Mourning. With an unchained Bondsmith, the wishes of Kandra and the Set would be fulfilled. The only thing needed would be 16 allomancers and 16 feruchemists. Their Connection to their power could be transferred to a single person, and then they could create unkeyed metal minds at will, with their metalmind quantities growing exponentially. Am I right or am I crazy?
  20. From the album: Mistborn Doodles

Vin's Ascension to Preservation in Hero of Ages. I always think of the poem "There Will Be Rest" by Sara Teasdale during this scene. "There will be rest, and sure stars shining Over the roof-tops crowned with snow, A reign of rest, serene forgetting, The music of stillness holy and low. I will make this world of my devising Out of a dream in my lonely mind. I shall find the crystal of peace, – above me Stars I shall find."
  21. There are 16 Allomantic metals and 16 shards. However in Rhythm of War we see Warlight. A combination of Honor and Odium's light. So how many total metal combinations are there? I suck at math. Also I am assuming there can be combinations of three or more shards to create a new light. Also I think you can condense light into a metal. So how many metals can a Mistborn Burn, if a Mistborn burns all metals. (How much wood can a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?)
  22. I have been reading RoW (I mean, who hasn’t. If anything I am taking longer than most). I got to chapter 80, which is the one where Hoid tells Kaladin the story of the Dog and the Dragon. A little bit after the story, Hoid tells Kaladin “I can’t keep this bubble up much longer”. Is this a manifestation of allomancy, specifically bendalloy, on Roshar?
  23. Felt is a Ghostblood sleeper agent. Way back in TFE: “Felt, one of the House Venture chief spies, climbed into the carriage, nodding his hawkish, mustached face respectfully to Elend, then Jastes.” Felt is a spy, originally from TFE Scadrial. He was present when Kell died, during the revolt and Elend’s speech, and the Catacande. And now he’s here, on Roshar. We know the GBs have a spy near the Kholins. We know that having an agent near prospective members is common practice. Felt has been by Dalinar’s side for years. He’s a loyal and trusted member of Dalinar’s forces. And now he’s on the Shadesmar trip, in the perfect position to ‘innocently’ question Kalak and discover the whereabouts of Ba-Ado-Mishram. We were all but told he was a worldhopper in Dalinar’s memories. And we know he’s tried to find the Nightwatcher before going on Dalinar’s mission to find her. His presence here, now, is remarkably suspicious - and no one suspects him at all. So: I posit that Felt is a Ghostblood agent in deep cover. Thoughts?
