  1. So, I just opened my email a little while ago and was pleasantly surprised to discover that my Alloy of Law/Shadows of Self Leatherbound Bundle pre-order already started getting shipped. I am excited but also surprised. When I made the preorder just a few days before New Year, it said that it would be released on early 2023 but I wasn't actually expecting it to be THAT early. I mean it's the 4th of January as of the writing this post. But regardless, I can't wait until it gets to me! Been intruducing the Cosmere to one of my friends and and he has been loving my Mistborn leatherbounds so far so this will expand the collection. Also, what about the rest of you that preordered it? Did your order also started getting shipped on your end today? Sorry if it sounds a bit personal but I am honestly surprised at how quickly after New Year this leatherbound bundle got shipped. Although, I did heard the Dragonsteel team has doubled in size or so, so that might explain it. Anyway, happy new years everyobody.
  2. I have been thinking of getting some acrylic book displays for the beautiful leatherbound editions I have bought so far so that they are preserved better when I am not reading them (or to at least get some Mylar book covers for the same purpose if the alternative becomes too expensive). Regardless, before I buy any of the options I found I need to know the exact dimensions of the leatherbound books so that I know the sizes I should be aiming for with this. And so far, I hadn't been able to find answers in google. So...does anyone knows? For references, the ones I have are the leatherbound editions for Elantris, Final Empire, Well of Ascension, Way of Kings in its two-volume format, and, soon, Alloy of Law plus Shadows of Self now that I have pre-ordered them. If anyone could help me with this it would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  3. I, and I suspect many others, have never bought one of the leatherbounds before and while I made pledge for the Way of Kings Kickstarter I am unsure whether or not I should go through with it. I am not sure if the cost will be worth the amount of value I will get out of them. So I have made this poll to give myself and anyone else who is considering buying these leatherbounds or any others an idea of what sort of value and usage to expect to get out of owning one of the leatherbounds. Hopefully this will help me and anyone else who has the same thoughts I am having come to a decision. So if you are the owner of a leatherbound please select the option in the poll that best describes how you use your leatherbounds. Thank you! (Of course, if you do not own one of the leatherbounds please don't vote in the poll. That would defeat the purpose)
  4. Update: Brandon posted a sneak peak of the Kickstarter with some more details and some more tiers for shipping considerations. Our original story is below. Tonight on Brandon's livestream, we finally got some specific details on the hotly anticipated Kickstarter for The Way of Kings leatherbound edition, which will run July 7th (at 9am Mountain Daylight Time) through August 7th this year. For those who haven't heard of this already, Dragonsteel Entertainment has been producing leatherbound editions of Brandon's books ten years after their original publishing date. This year is The Way of Kings, which will be done in two volumes and unlike other leatherbounds will be sold initially via a Kickstarter campaign. We have a breakdown of all the tiers and stretch goals right here so you can see what books and swag you can pick up. Also, for the next 48 hours (until ~9:00 PM MDT on June 20) email [email protected] with the word poster in the subject line for a chance to win a free version of the Bridge 4 poster. The first announcement is that on July 7th Dragonsteel will be releasing a cleaned-up ebook version of The Way of Kings Prime, Brandon's original take on The Way of Kings written just before he started work on the first Mistborn book. This book is very different from The Way of Kings and represents an early look at an unfinished Roshar that may be interesting for super fans or people interested in Brandon's writing over the years. Tier List: Tier One - $10 This tier is centered around all digital rewards. Backing the Kickstarter for $10 will net you an original novella set before Rhythm of War. Brandon has written a few scenes for this, and it has tentatively been titled Wandersail and will tell a story of Rysn and Aimia. This is similar to the Lift novella Edgedancer in that it will likely be somewhat important but not required reading to follow the main arc of the story. It will also contain a digital art pack containing wallpapers of the previously revealed Bridge 4 Poster (1920x1080) and wallpapers of any other art that is unlocked from the other stretch goals. Note that this tier does not contain any physical rewards, even from stretch goals. Tier Two - $50 This is the physical novella tier. For backing this tier, you will receive everything from Tier 1 as well as an unsigned physical version of the novella and a physical copy of the Bridge 4 poster (which will not be folded up due to popular demand). This printed novella will match the dimensions of the small standalone Edgedancer that has been released already. Additionally various stretch goals will unlock goodies associated with the various orders. You can choose one of the ten and if stretch goals unlock you will receive small items themed after that order. You will also receive any other physical stretch goals that are unlocked (pins, coins, etc). Tier Three - $200 This is the main product, with this comes the signed (but not numbered) leatherbound edition of the book, bound in two volumes in the same bonded leather as the other leatherbounds Dragonsteel has produced (only the first of the two volumes will be signed). The leather color of the books will likely be this consistent shade of blue throughout all of the Stormlight leatherbounds, with the foil sword glyphs changing for the respective orders. This also comes with all of the rewards from the previous tiers, except for the physical and ebook editions of Wandersail (which will be available separately as an add on for ~$15). Tier Four - $500 (limited to 950 backers) This is the all-in tier. This tier gives you everything from tier three, along with an unsigned physical and digital copy of Wandersail. In this case though the leatherbound version of The Way of Kings will be both signed and numbered. It will also net you an unsigned physical copy of The Way of Kings Prime (which may eventually see other companion Prime books in future Kickstarters such as White Sand Prime that they're tentatively calling Sanderson Curiosities). Additionally instead of receiving the goodies from only one order of Radiants, you will receive them from all ten. As mentioned above, there are only 950 of these backer spots available, so if this is something you're interested in, keep an eye on it. Stretch Goals These stretch goals unlock after Kickstarter is fully funded. As people continue to sign up for it, we will hit various funding checkpoints that will unlock additional rewards at no extra cost. We don't know what the funding goal for the Kickstarter or the tiers are yet, but here are the rewards! Stretch Goal 1: A 6 x 9 sticker sheet themed after your chosen order. Will have stickers such as glyphs or little chibi versions of characters such as Kaladin, Wit, and Jasnah. Stretch Goal 2: Upgrade to the leather of the leatherbound to genuine Italian leather. They are uncertain whether they will be able to offer these in the store post-Kickstarter, so this may be the only place that these exist. Stretch Goal 3: A patch that matches your chosen order. Stretch Goal 4: Custom cloth-bound slipcase for The Way of Kings leatherbound. These only go out to the tiers that backed at 3 or 4. This is another item that may not be available in the store after the Kickstarter. Stretch Goal 5: A physical art print for your chosen order (9" x 12") showing the Radiants of that order in action. The art for these is by Steve Agyle and they should also appear in the digital art pack. Stretch Goal 6: A Kickstarter-exclusive hard enamel backer pin (1.4" x 2") displaying the original version of the Double Eye of the Almighty. Stretch Goal 7: A pin with a glyph that matches your chosen order of Knights Radiant (1" diameter). These will differ from the reward pins Brandon gives out for cosplay and may be embossed or inscribed with the glyph. Stretch Goal 8: A deck of Stormlight-themed playing cards with art designed by Rebecca Sorge Jensen. Stretch Goal 9: Knight-Radiant themed challenge coins (1.5") that will show the glyph of your chosen order of Radiants and a generalized motto on one side and their First Ideal on the other side along with the associated Herald icon from the Stormlight chapter headers. Stretch Goal 10: A Wit or Witless challenge coin which has Wit's chapter icon on one side and a witty saying inscribed along the edges. Miscellania There are of course a bunch of other details related to the Kickstarter as well. It seems like they are trying to do their best to let people mix and match what they get with add-ons as much as is feasible. You'll be able to get an add-on for another full set of Knight Radiant goodies (the exact contents will vary based on the stretch goals that are unlocked). You will also likely be able to order all of a certain item, like a set of all the Radiant patches from every order. You are unlikely to be able to add-on, for example, just a single patch from one order or just a few of the coins, these will be all or nothing. There will also be or both versions of Wandersail or the physical TWoK Prime available. All stretch goals should be available to be purchased as add-ons, such as Radiant order goodies or the poster, or the card decks. They may also offer a way to buy just the leatherbound alone. Another likely possibility is a $1 tier for people to back so they can just buy add-ons they are interested in and not go for any tier. This is obviously a ton of really exciting preliminary news, and you can expect a full blog post with the finalized details on Brandon's site before too long. I for one am so excited to have all of this new content to carry us through the summer! Leave your thoughts on the Kickstarter and what goodies you want to get down below!
  5. Today, Warbreaker leatherbound preorders went up! Dragonsteel is teaming up with a variety of bookstores to do the preorders. See below at the bottom of this post on Brandon's site for up-to-date links where you can preorder the book. This year, they are doing something different for damage prevention and numbering. They are going to pre-sign and number all books before binding them, so each book can be shrink-wrapped and individually boxed. This means they can't offer personalizations, but you'll get a book in the best condition. If you haven't seen any of the art from the Warbreaker leatherbound, it's pretty amazing: Mistborn Dice Kickstarter This week, the Mistborn metal dice Kickstarter went live. Though they are a bit pricy at $180 for a full set, these are extremely high quality dice. I've received some--which you'll see on Shardcast this week--and they are weighty, solid, and very much full metal dice, plated to look like the metal on the die itself. Good stuff! You get 20 dice with that $180 tier: all 16 base metals, atium, malatium, lerasium, and harmonium. The project is also nearly funded three times over, so if you're interested and have some extra cash, go support them! Additionally, they will do a livestream tomorrow morning, Thursday, November 21st, at 9am Pacific with Isaac Stewart to talk about the symbols on the dice! If you're curious, here are all the dice. Yes, they are pretty fabulous:
  6. We have a few short news items for you this week! First up, Brandon has moved the Stormlight 4 and 5 outline to 25%. Brandon wants to make sure the next two books are plotted so he doesn't miss any plot threads at the end of the first Stormlight arc in Stormlight 5, which you can read about in his Stormlight 4 Update 1 Reddit post. Next up, the amazing Miranda Meeks made a fantastic piece of Vin and Elend for the Hero of Ages Leatherbound, and now you can buy a poster of it for $10. Miranda outdoes herself again, and the piece is absolutely fantastic. There is a high probability I go buy this one and frame it, because dang. It's also called "Defending Preservation," which is just an awesome title. The poster is 16" x 20", which to me seems worth that $10. Lastly, the Hero of Ages Leatherbounds now are open to be personalized on Brandon's store. There, Brandon will write your name in the book, which a short greeting. You cannot get cosmere questions in these now. But, if you were holding off on the leatherbound because it was only available signed, now you can get it!
  7. It's time: the Well of Ascension Leatherbound edition is here! Like the Elantris and Mistborn: The Final Empire leatherbounds, it is expensive but gorgeous. This edition has apparently 24 pages of art which has some brand-new artwork, three maps of the Final Empire, and the Feruchemical table. Personalized copies might not arrive before Christmas, but if you want the book itself, that should arrive before Christmas with priority shipping. Let's show off some of this art. Howard Lyon, who did some Oathbringer endpapers, did this: And here is two pieces of new art: the left is Vin vs. Koloss by Charles Tan, and on the right is Heir of the Survivor by Miranda Meeks. (Yay Miranda Meeks!) Lastly, the Mistborn: The Final Empire leatherbound edition is back in stock at last. I know many have asked about this, and now it's finally here.
  8. I have looked all over the site and can't find an answer to this. I'm committed now to collecting the Leatherbound editions (yay for not being a starving college student anymore!) and plan to pick up Mistborn: The Final Empire on its 2nd printing that's supposed to be happening this summer. Has there been any word on if they'll ever print more Elantris Leatherbound? It's still on the store website but says sold out. Is my only option going to be to take to eBay and pay a ton?
  9. The time is here. There is an anniversary edition of the first Mistborn book, in gorgeous leatherbound, and it's going on sale tonight, December 1st, at midnight EST. That's just over six hours away. It does have a hefty price tag, like the Elantris leatherbound, at $100. But I will say that the Elantris leatherbound was spectacular, and its first printing went out of stock rapidly. If you're interested, don't delay. Note that these Mistborn leatherbounds will not be guaranteed for a Christmas delivery, due to Brandon's tour schedule and tour delays. There's awesome stuff in the Mistborn leatherbound. Let Kara from Dragonsteel Entertainment explain: Speaking of the Final Empire art, it is spectacular. You can also buy a poster of it, which I am absolutely doing right now. It has a fantastic style to it, and is simply gorgeous. It actually has a date on it, 1021, which is the first time canonically in the Final Empire time period that we explicitly have a date on something. (1021, by the way, is three years before the end of The Well of Ascension.) Also, it canonizes locations mentioned The Eleventh Metal, and in in the Mistborn Adventure Game, and if I'm not mistaken, it includes brand-new locations on the imperial map. Maybe I missed things in the Mistborn Adventure Game, but I absolutely do not recall Lekal City in the Southern Dominance, for one. I'm pretty sure this is brand-new Final Empire lore. And that makes me unreasonably excited. Maybe these places are mentioned in some of the Mistborn Adventure Game supplements, though, but I can't find references to them. Feel free to zoom in on this poster and post your thoughts, because I'd love to hear them. Okay, I'm going to shut up about Final Empire geography now, because there's also some fantastic pieces of art from Arcanum Unbounded that you can buy. There's the star map of the cosmere, which were the endsheets for Arcanum Unbounded, and there are beautiful, colorized versions of each star system, too. The colorized versions are truly incredible, so at least click the link and zoom in on them.
  10. The hype train is going up to full speed. Shadows of Self comes out tomorrow, but today, Brandon posted a huge blog about the Elantris Anniversary editions, which also comes out tomorrow and are definitely not something for you to forget about tomorrow. This new version of Elantris is now the canonical version, fixing some continuity errors. The physical edition will be North American only for now. It's hardcover first, and the paperback will come to this edition later, in a year or so. Ebooks will update to this text (with iBooks, automatically). In the UK, the text will be there soon™. But, of course, what's in the new Elantris? I'll let Brandon explain: So if you are in the mind of "eh, I don't want to reread Elantris," as some people are in the house I'm currently in (I'm currently hanging out with other 17S staff for the Shadows release tonight), fear not. The book is basically the same, but the new maps, and new stuff in the appendix and front are what you want. We'll discuss the maps in a moment, but first, we need to talk about the Elantris Leatherbound Edition, which has been teased on Twitter a bit, and now Brandon has revealed most of the details. He also goes on to say that we'll be able to get this from Brandon's store, or bookstores on tour, but probably not the average Barnes & Noble or Amazon. Now we have to talk about the maps, since they are conveniently all posted for our perusal. They are all in color, but I imagine in the physical Elantris Anniversary Edition, it will be grayscale (like in Alloy). I imagine they will be in color in the leatherbound. But guys. These are super cool. Let's go through each of these, with some brief comments. They all look fantastic. Great job, Isaac! Check them out: For full discussion on the maps, go here!
