  1. Hoid's 100% Correct true Cosmere Facts Hoid decides to have a bit of fun with his new penpal Harmony. Full Mistborn & Stormlight spoilers. My first-ever Cosmere fic, inspired by this thread. Feel free to comment with your own Correct True Facts.
  2. In WoK, Hoid tempts Sadeas to kill him. What would he have done if Sadeas actually did try? He can't die. Would have he revealed his healing factor? How would that scene have played out if Sadeas did try? Would he even lose hos lands if Hoid was still alive or is it the attempt that matters?
  3. I noticed this in the annotations for Dawnshard: Emphasis on the fact that he can’t eat meat. What!? Since when!? Does his curse to not be able to physically harm people also extend to animals, and therefore he cannot eat them? the most alarming and depressing part of this is this fact we have known for a while, quote: I know someone brought this up on the Reddit q and a already, but I needed to get this off my chest
  4. From the album: Cosmeme & Crossmere

Alternative Kelsier punching Hoid scene (based on this tumblr meme) (Also in Sanderson Memes thread) Reactions by @Kandra-in-disguise
  5. Just stumbled across this guy who is a real life "Wit playing flute among the chasms." His name is Armin Küpper and he plays saxophone with himself next to giant pipes and such. It's a trip. (I don't remember the rules for links on here, so just going to recommend you look him up on YouTube.)
  6. Finished! Nine characters from eight Shardworlds! From left to right: Dusk from First of the Sun / Kaladin from Roshar / Vasher from Nalthis / Hoid from Yolen / Harmony (Sazed) / Khriss from Taldain / Shai from Sel / Vin from Scadrial / Silence from Threnody This piece is also celebratory art! Happy Chinese New Year 2016 (Year of the monkey)! At first I drew these characters mainly for an online fantasy magazine because they kind of let me (as translator of WoR) introduce Stormlight and the whole Cosmere series in their New Year issue, which meant I’d better add some festival stuff. So here it is - Characters from eight different Shardworlds wishing you a Happy New Year! In China, this is a popular traditional gesture when people give New Year’s greetings. It’s called 作揖 (zuò yī, in spoken language: zuō yī). When you do this, you make a bow with hands folded in front of you and greet others at the same time. Raise your folded hands and then lower them. The motion can be repeated several times. For men, they should use their left hand to cover their right hand (In ancient China, men tended to hold weapon with their right hand, so they covered it when saluting, to reduce hostility and show respect.), while for women, they should do it otherwise and it’s better not to clench the left hand into a fist (You can learn this from the picture above.). If you do it wrong, you will convey some ominous meaning. Please be careful # # # Heck, so many tags! Also seriously, I think we may need a Cosmere crossover art album
  7. Hey! I collected all of Hoid's stories in a document! This is for your theorizing pleasure, and for potential memorization! Hoid's Stories I was interested in reading all of them, so I collected them, and couldn't think of a better place to share them than here!. I included the Wandersail (Way of Kings Chapter 57), Fleet (Words of Radiance Chapter 59), The Girl Who Looked Up (Combined both Shallan's Version and Hoid's, Oathbringer Chapters 25 and 82), Mishim and Tsa (Oathbringer Chapter 67), The Dragon and the Dog (Rhythm of War Chapter 80), The Origin of the God Kings (Warbreaker Chapter 32) Hoid’s Stories.pdf Hoid’s Stories.txt
  8. So after accidentally detailing another thread, @GroundPetrel and I decided to make this an official thread of its own. This idea started with a simple premise: If Kelsier ever took up the Shard of Whimsy he would be the Q of the Cosmere. Naturally, that makes Hoid Guinan, and from there it spiraled. After all, if Star Treck were Cosmere, who would be Picard? (Jasnah.) Our current NG cast: Kelsier + Whimsy = Q Hoid - Guinan Jasnah - Picard Marasi - Riker? ? - Doc Crusher MeLaan - Wesley Crusher Lirin - Dr. Pulaski Steris - Data Rlain - Worf Azure - Tasha Yar Dalinar - O’Brien Navani- Keiko Gavinor - Molly Ranette - Geordi Adolin - Deana Fourth Bridge - The Enterprise Sequence - Lore Odium’s forces - the Borg. Feel free to suggest your own ideas! Stories and fan art are welcome.
  9. Anyone else catch Sanderson's inner Alcatraz bleeding through in the interactions between Hoid and Design? I thought the references were hilarious and was one of my favorite moments in the book.
  10. From the album: Wit

Wit. The wily, witty, whimsical Wit. Who woos a weary audience with wondrous tales of witchery and waffles, who wanders while he waits for the waning of the past, when woeful tellings give way to wonderful news of ramen. Whistling while he beguiles the naive and waltzes with gods, he wiggles with words and confounds his enemies (and friends alike) as he wishes for his waiting to be over.
  11. I have been reading RoW (I mean, who hasn’t. If anything I am taking longer than most). I got to chapter 80, which is the one where Hoid tells Kaladin the story of the Dog and the Dragon. A little bit after the story, Hoid tells Kaladin “I can’t keep this bubble up much longer”. Is this a manifestation of allomancy, specifically bendalloy, on Roshar?
  12. I don’t think I’m allowed to post this in the fan creations section yet (if I’m wrong, let me know) so I’m posting it here. And yes, I would like feedback. (I forgot you need to say that now.) The Queen’s Wit lounges at the the far end of the table, his dark hair framing his sharp, pale features and unnaturally blue eyes. On his lap is a lute, which he plucks with a languid hand. The other rests on the arm of his chair, beside his Spren, Design. He has many names, this Wit, acquired over his long years. Midius, Hoid, Cephandrius, Topaz, Dust, Wit, among many others, including the one coined by the man at the table’s other end: Drifter. The Survivor’s chair is tilted back, his feet resting on the table, the edges of his mist cloak just brushing the floor. He holds a pastry in one scarred hand and the other bent behind his head. Blond hair falls about his face, half obscuring the spike impaling his right eye. The other is focused on his opponent, it’s sharpness belying his relaxed demeanor. The Survivor counts barely above three centuries to his life, yet he has begun to acquire as many titles as the Wit has names. Survivor, Sovereign, Lord of the Mists, Lord of Scars, Thaidakar. The last being the source of the present dispute. The third member of the party, there to mediate, clears his throat. Frost’s appearance is that of a wizened old man. Appearances, of course, are entirely deceptive, for Frost is not a man. “We may begin,” he says now. “Who will speak first?” The Survivor takes a bite from his pastry, chewing loudly. He smirks as he lightly inclines his head to his opponent. The Wit refuses to be baited, plucking out a discordant, yet somehow harmonious, rhythm as he begins to speak. “Lord of Scars,” he says, his tone wry, “unless you want me coming over to slap you around - again - I‘d advise you to do the Cosmere a favor and stick to meddling on your own world. I’m certain they’ll be happy to worship you for it.” The Survivor swallows, and smirks, a dangerous gleam in his hazel eye. “Tell me Drifter: ever considered taking your own advice? Because from where I’m sitting, it’s just the ash-pot calling the kettle black.” ”If I may,” Frost interrupts, knowing too well where this will likely lead, “perhaps neither of you should be interfering at all.” For the first - and last - time in the history of the Cosmere, Hoid and Kelsier found themselves in complete agreement. The Dragon was obviously insane. Hoid has no moral ground to tell ANYONE in the Cosmere not to interfere, even if other people (cough...Kell...cough) shouldn’t be.
  13. Hey all! Since reading the epilogue and being horrified/intrigued at what Vargo!Odium did to Hoid, another question has continued to plague me. Why on Roshar did Hoid meet with Rayse!Odium ~1,000 years ago? We’ve seen Hoid speak about the potential destruction Odium could wreak upon him. Hoid seems genuinely troubled by the possibility through the series thus far. So, given this, what lead to their meeting a millennia ago? Why did Hoid risk this meeting? What did they discuss? How did it go? I wonder if it took place near the Recreance, though this depends on timeline stuff. If it did was Hoid away of the impact of the B-A-M capture and was thus discussed? I honestly have no idea and perhaps the meeting meant nothing, but it stood out to me and I had not seen anyone discuss it thus far (apologies if I missed it!) Let me know what you think! Am I crazy and reading into something... or was this meeting important and something we should be focused on? If you have any theories or ideas, I’d love to hear them!
  14. Greetings, everyone. Could someone point me in the right direction to where I can read the sample chapters of Liar of Partiniel? I've found this link (http://www.brandonsanderson.com/drafts/warbreaker/LiarPt12.doc), and this another one (https://brandonsanderson.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/LiarCh1v3.doc) from Brandon's page, but it looks like the pages are offline. Is there any other official place where I can get it from? Regards.
  15. Nikli tells Rysn that she's forbidden from bonding a Spren and becoming a Radiant now that she's a Dawnshard, and we know that the Dawnshards were used (at least in part) to Shatter Adonalsium, and that part of the weapon that Shattered Adonalsium is why Hoid is immortal. So assuming that that equates to Hoid being a Dawnshard like Rysn, that... That's interesting. Because Hoid DOES have a Spren, the Cryptic that almost bonded with Elhokar. HMMMMMMMMM. Just a thought I had.
  16. Time for me to add another topic onto the discussion table. Okay, me always had this question and could not find an answer anywhere, so here it is... why don't we see more guns? It's always bugged me that we don't see world hoppers having a gun with them, especially after we see Khriss carrying one in Mistborn: Secret History. That shows that guns have been around since Mistborn Era 1, and that world hoppers do carry them around when traveling to other worlds. So why don't we see Mraize or Hoid carrying them? Hoid might be powerful enough that he doesn't need one, but Mraize? He is a worldhopper and could have easily gone to Scadrial and took a gun with him. Now, obviously, there are possible explanations, First one is maybe it against the Cosmere laws, as seen in Sixth Dusk, and they can't bring them and accidentally leave them for the populace. problem with that is one, sixth dusk tasks place centuries in the future and may not apply to Mistborn and SA. Next explanation is that gun is inconvenient to carry because once you run out of ammunition, the gun is useless and you can't really make ammunition for yourself out of thin air (unless you're an Elsecaller or Lightweaver). But a gun is still pretty worth it for emergency and then I'd ask why Khriss brought hers. And lastly, it might be the Ire, Ghostbloods, or Seventh Shard that keeps worldhopper from doing it. Mraixe certainly seems to be keeping track of that on Roshar. What do you guys think?
  17. “Taking the Dawnshard, known to bind any creature voidish or mortal, he crawled up the steps crafted for Heralds, ten strides tall apiece, toward the grand temple above. ” Do you guys think that this is referring to Hoid since Brandon stated on Reddit that Hoid once was a Dawnshard?
  18. OK, So I literally just finished reading and skimmed the first page of the Dawnshard spoiler board to make sure nobody had already posted this exact theory. If I missed it, sorry about that. Okay, major dawnshard spoilers: Anyway, that’s not really a thought out theory, just something I randomly thought of as I finished the book, and had to write down before I forgot it.
  19. Out of all the known worldhoppers, which shardworld have the majority of them been born on. My first thought turns to Nalthis, but I feel like I'm missing something.
  20. Ill just jump right in, with some major spoilers — the Dawnshards aren’t what they were anymore(confirmed by Honor), and they aren’t weapons(not in the traditional sense). They are Commands(confirmed in dawnshard) on the godly level that can like bond with individuals. They were used to kill Adonalsium(confirmed in Dawnshard) and we know that Hoid’s immortality comes from the remnants of the “weapon” used to kill/shatter Adonalsium(WoB) so if we put all of that together, we get the new(not stated) spoiler, that ... Hoid is bonded to a Dawnshard!!! Or more correctly. Hoid is a Dawnshard!!!! also the Dawnshard are described as “the four primal Commands that created all things” and then were used to “undo” Adonalsium — the four Dawnshards were used to Shatter Ado into 16 Pieces. And each Dawnshard seems to have created four Shards, which gives credence to the “Four Shard grouping” theories more evidence is a mural that depicts a White sun Shattering into four pieces and then each piece shattered into 4 more pieces(16 shards total. 4 from each of the original 4 shards) — The original 4 Shards in the Mural were described at “mostly symmetrical” so maybe this is a small hint that maybe some of the “4 shard groupings” have ever so slightly more investiture than some of the other groups — Rysn got A vibe from looking at the mural. she felt that Adonalsium(she just thought of it as “the sun” in the mural) wasnt angry from being shattered. More words used to describe what Ado felt during his Shattering “Resignation? Confidence? Understanding?” The resignation and confidence part seem(to me) to suggest that Adonalsium was fighting some sort of war(most obvious, is the vessels themselves) and had finally given up, but was still confident to the end.and Understanding of why his enemies did what they did.
  21. Halloween is coming up, generally I dress up as a character from a book (Not a movie, I don’t watch many of those). This year I want to dress up as Hoid, the only problem is that as a master of disguise. He changes his appearance often, so there isn’t one solid description. I challenge the 17th Shard community to do this, come up with a profile for Hoid that is most like him. Go forth my friends, serve me well!
  22. So the story between salus and queen sah seems to imply that queen sah was a bond Smith, since she was able to crate a magical agreement with a “god” that was rendered null when the terms were violated. however I also thought of two other interpretations 1. the three moons represent the three bondsmith spren nomen stormfather, salus is the night watched and the wise sister is the sibling (with the sibling this theory becomes a little thin) and maybe the salus character is a bondsmith of the night watcher 2. the three moons represent honor, odium and cultivation, this makes very little sense though since odiums gender woudl have had to be switched which I’m skeptical of since as bondsmith sah woudl know of odium.
  23. Chinkoln

    Is Hoid Human

Is Hoid human? I think not. He is so powerful that it would be extremely unrealistic. I think that he is a dragon in disguise. This WoB leaves Brandon with an interesting answer. Is Hoid a dragon?
  24. Have you ever had one of those moments when you're reading a book, watching a movie, or even just walking around town, and there's just some person and you instantly think "is that Hoid?" before coming to realization that what you're doing has nothing to do with the Cosmere? For example, when I was watching the Hunchback of Notre Dam the other day, I saw that jester-storyteller guy and I said out loud almost instantaneously "is that Wit?"
