  1. Okay, here's the scenario. Shai improves her Shaizan essence mark to include Flesh Forgery to maximize her physical capacity in addition to her alterations of her personal history. She uses the Essence Mark on her arm and for whatever reason takes a huge shot of Unkeyed Dor at the same time, making the far more permanent. Another hypothetical, but maybe she could setup continuous healing from a combination of the Dor and Flesh Forgery? At any rate, Shaizan gets into a fight and the arm that the Essence Mark is on gets cut off. The obvious answer is that this breaks the Soulstamp seal. BUT what if there was sufficient Investiture from the Dor to continue to power the stamp? Shai herself would probably revert back to herself, but could her severed arm grow into a fully functional Shaizan? The false soul and body template can be recorded within an Essence Mark, and we know Flesh Forgery can heal a body even from a shot to the head even without supercharging it with Dor. Thoughts? Talk about craziest way to get a twin sister/clone.
  2. whit soulcasting and forging could you soulcast a simulacrum into a functioning body and then have a soul made for it, it has no "history" and so all stamps should be equally possible so any soul you made would stay. and if you could make it work could you also give it access to the metallic arts or another form of magic?
  3. So I've just finished reading the emperor's soul, and I've got a few Theories/Questions: 1. if forging is used by changing history (using stamps) and become, lets say, a soldier or something, cant an apprentice whos just finished to learn using Soulstamps, create a stamp which will make him an incredibly talented forger? so basically every forger can become as good as Shai? it will take a lot of time but it is possible, right? 2.is the red armored priest that Shai push in the end of the book the same priest form the religion in Elantris?
  4. Through use of forgery it is shown that one can take different paths in their past for different results to become different versions that could have been Since it has become apparent Hoid had an opportunity to become a shard at some point could forging his soul turn him into one?
  5. I just read Emperor's Soul for the second time and it was just as good on the reread even though the first happened a few months ago. It might be my favorite of his short stories (except for Shadows of Silence or Sixth of the Dusk or...). I have a couple of questions about how Forging relates to Hemalurgy. I'm guessing based on the Kriss essay on Hemalurgy that Forging ability could be stolen from a person. Could I steal some one's stamp? For instance, I could put Shai in a situation where she uses her warrior stamp then take it? Also, could Forging allow someone to switch/gain magical abilities? Like, could I reforge someone into being an Elantrian? P.s. I'm relatively new to the discussion boards so please forgive me if I missed some earlier conversations.
  6. From the album: The Emperor's Soul - Visual Development

For my new portfolio project, I decided to do some Visual Development artwork based on Brandon Sanderson’s novella „The Emperor’s Soul“. I did my best to stick to the descriptions I found in the book, with some artistic license where necessary, or whenever I couldn't find much visual descriptions. I will try to keep my descriptions spoiler free, but I hope everyone who read the book will recognize the art. To kick it off, here is a key scene of Shai & Gaotona in Shai's room. More to come!

  7. I hope this topic can focus specifically on speculation about interacting magical systems. The topic should be general enough to allow meandering thoughts. Let me kick off with a few quick theories: A forger can create essence marks that can change a misting or ferring into a full mistborn or feruchemist: The idea here is that the cognitive realm can influence the spiritual realm just as it can change the physical. All current mistings and ferrings are descendants of full mistborn or feruchemists. The forger creates an essence mark that changes their history so that the power was passed in full rather simply in part. I imagine that the essence mark would be more involved the more generations that separate the individual from their mistborn or feruchemist ancestor. Bonus: A twinborn can have an essence mark created that grants them both full mistborn and feruchemist powers. Scary. An Individual with a bonded Seon on Roshar can manifest effects based on the Seon's Aon: Seons and spren are very similar in nature and form a similar bond to humans. The idea is that they are similar enough that the Seon bond would allow a human to absorb stormlight just as the Nahel bond does. A necessary supporting theory is that the region locking of Aons is due the process that the Dor is brought forth; however, the shaping of the investiture is independent of region, thus investiture fed directly to an Aon would cause a region independent effect. So an individual full of stormlight could feed it through the Aon in their Seon in order to create effects.
  8. There's not much else to this than what is in the title. I think Augur Mistings (or Mistborn who've trained in Allomantic Gold) would make fantastic Essence Marks, or at least make Essence Marks far more easily than normal. Let's discuss this!
