  1. I was wondering if the visual content from Arcanum Unbounded, like the pictures before each story and the star-charts, have been posted anywhere. I've got the audiobook, so I don't have access to any of these at the moment and I was really curious to see them, especially the star-charts. If mods would prefer they not be posted here, I understand. I'll eventually be getting a physical copy of the book anyway, just not right now. I wanted to check these out now, though, if I could. I know we've posted the visual portions of other novels, like the Stormlight books before, for people with audio and some e-book versions. Also, I'm not quite finished reading AU yet. I decided to reread the old stories again instead of going straight into Edgedancer. So if there are any spoilers in the charts or pictures, I'd appreciate the heads up and I'll wait to check them out. Thanks, everyone.
  2. Hello all, I participated in the Lexington, KY signing last night and I did not see a thread for it, so I figured I would go ahead and post one. I was able to record the general Q&A as well as the reading (which I believe is from Silence Divine, the one about people with diseases getting magic) on my phone, but it will be a while before I can get them off my phone and post them. I did not end up recording anything asked in the signing line, but I did ask a few questions that I'll go ahead and post his answers to. Unfortunately, they're not word for word. Q: Do darkeyes feel the Thrill? A: Yes, they do. (I had a theory that only lighteyes felt it based on the scene where Kaladin talks about his old spear master and it being okay to feel along with the fact that we've never seen a darkeyes that felt it, but that was solidly debunked) Q: Do highstorms get weaker as they move west because of normal meteorological reasons the same way a hurricane gets weaker over land or is it because they slowly drain investiture as they infuse spheres over the whole continent? A: Both. He said that anything like that will be affected by both normal science as well as the magic, but then he added that the highstorms are a natural occurring phenomenon that were on the planet before stuff started going down. I didn't get this confirmed, but I think he meant the stormlight part of the storm was added later, I'm assuming by a Shard. (As far as I know, this is new information. I had no idea that the highstorms existed beforehand and just assumed they were created by Honor.) Q: Has the Thrill existed longer than the Death Rattles or have they both been occurring for about the same period of time? A: The Thrill and the Death Rattles started around the same time, but the locations for the two fluctuate and have been since they appeared. (This is just a way of confirming that the Unmade have been active for about the same amount of time. Both started around the time Gavilar started to explore the Shattered Plains according to Taravangian.) I also got one of the Szeth cards for wearing my Asha'man hoodie with the Sword and Dragon pins and it's pretty cool. Looks like the stats on the back are for a cosmere centric game that Brandon has planned. (P:2 C:1 S:2 definitely seems like Physical, Cognitive and Spiritual Stats and it mentions Investiture) It would be nice if someone could ask Brandon about them at another signing. Anyway, that's all the information I have for now. I'll try to get the videos from my phone posted tonight, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to it.
  3. Okay, yeah. It looks like the new chapters posted today completely invalidate what I was saying. Syl DID come from the Cognitive Realm before binding with Kaladin and it looks like Shallan's spren has been with her longer than we thought as Macen said. Another point of note is that Shallan doesn't seem to think that the voice that asked her for truths came from Pattern. She could be wrong, but it's still interesting new information.
  4. I'm of the mind that Sly works a bit differently than the other bonding spren we've seen. Both Jesnah's and Shallan's sprens appear to be a bit different in the Physical Realm than they are in the Cognitive realm. We know from Chapter 1 of WoR that Cryptics look different in the Cognitive Realm than the puppy spren that Shallan has now bound. I think that AonarFaileas is correct and that Shallan did not bind to her Spren until she told the second truth about being a murderer and that it was trying to cross over into the Physical Realm and was finally able to when she drew it. I think Jesnah's first encounter with her spren in the palace was with the Cognitive version and that it crossed over after binding to her. I think Lift's spren was chosen to bind with her and sent to the Physical before binding, but we have no proof of that. Sly is the one that I think is different from the others. I don't think she came from the Cognitive Realm. I think she has been trapped in the Physical Realm since the Recreance (likely because of a broken bond) with no mind until she found Kaladin to bind with. Spren have to have a bond with someone to have a personality and intelligence in the Physical Realm and Shallan's, Jesnah's, and Lift's spren all seem to have taken a calculated risk to come into the Physical Realm knowing that. Sly does not seem to have done that, which is why I think she has been trapped in the Physical for much much longer.
  5. Oh, okay. That makes sense then. I didn't realize that clicking on those did anything different. Thanks. That will make forum browsing a lot faster.
  6. I have a question for anyone who may be able to answer it. When I'm going through the forums on the mobile site, if I click on a thread that I've already read that has new posts, it takes me straight to the first post I haven't read but the main site doesn't seem to do this. It just takes me to the first post of the thread. Is there any setting I can change or button I'm missing that gets the main site to work this way, or is this a feature of the mobile site only? Thanks
  7. I'm normally kind of a lurker, but I wanted to jump in here to say that the newest posting of chapter 4 kind of disproves the theory that Spren sacrifice themselves to become Shardblades or are trapped to make Shardblades for their radiants. Dalinar's vision in the chapter shows a Radiant with a Shardblade having a conversation with thin air, which is almost definitely the Radiant talking to her Spren. Here are the quotes from the chapter in question, important parts in bold.
