  1. I don't think so. It seems like it is always better to have full knowledge of the target of a Forgery, after all, Shai couldn't Forge her window into unbroken plain glass because there was no chance of there being high quality plain glass in it, not because whe knew that it had actually contain stained glass.
  2. If someone had Alien Hand Syndrome (Link) in the Cosmere, could they stick their arm out of the bubble, and have it actually be outside of the bubble? If so, it may be one of the more useful disorders to have.
  3. I thought that one of Shai's main motivations for making Forgeries was to fool people. She is creating great works of art in the performance and execution of her exploits (eg, swapping the paintings), not in the objects that she creates. She wouldn't undermine her own greatest work in that way. PS: You may actually be right, but playing Devil's Advocate is fun necessary to build strong theories.
  4. My thoughts: - You cannot give yourself magical powers using an essence mark, it is too improbable/your soul is not familiar with it. - Bloodsealing requires physical blood to act as the ink, so no. - ...maybe. If you were to kill the target with a spike, and spike someone else with it, it is possible that the skeletons would go after the new person, as they contain the target's soul. I'm not sure.
  5. I read that quote quite differently. I thought that it was referring to mundane failure, as opposed to magical; Sort of like "a secret shared by two is no secret", rather than a magical requirement. After all, it seems like everyone would know about the palace decorations being Forgeries, and they are still working flawlessly.
  6. So, we all know that Hoid does something significant in most of the Cosmere books, but I haven't seen if there was a coherent plan yet. here's what I know so far: (mostly from here Elantris: he helps arm and move shipments of supplies into Elantris to help the Elantrians. Mistborn TFE: Gives Kelsier intel on house Renoux, and misdirects him re: Shan, telling him (and, by implication, Vin) that she is a Soother, which makes Vin discount her instincts that she is Mistborn. Mistborn WoA: Talks to the heroes re: the Terris camp, and later takes a bead of Lerasium, leaving one. (probably) Mistborn HoA: Would have helped Vin out in gathering intel, but she was "too smart for her own good" (or something like that) Warbreaker: Helps Siri to understand the culture and secrets better. Way of Kings: Many things. Alloy of Law: might have done something. Emperor's Soul: gets Shae imprisoned, she is later offered freedom in return for fixing the Emperor. I'm drawing a bit of a blank, overall. Can anyone see a consistent pattern?
  7. I'm not sure how it's possible to have more force at greater mass without having less force at less mass, unless you are proposing a base-minimum effective mass for an Allomancer's push (eg, effective mass for push force = greater of their mass and 40 kg), but that seems needlessly contrived to me.
  8. I found a passage that supports the mass-dependant theory, without requiring any interpretation. I find this to be much more solid evidence than any that has been presented so far, as it is a direct statement as opposed to an interpretation of someone's intent or a guess at someone's abilities. Furthermore, I don't think that many of the "solid" anchors are sufficient to allow a full strength push at normal weight. Let's assume that Wax's maximum force exerted is normally 1000 lb (enough to accelerate his body at 5g, which is tolerable). That amount of force could easily tip over a lamppost, or punch nails through the floor. As for the skyscraper, I thought he was lighter to give himself more velocity from the shotgun blast, as well as making climbing easier, and just stayed light because there was no reason to switch back and forth.
  9. Disagree. (but well put, that is a clear statement of that position) The amount of acceleration that a coinshot/lurcher can give themselves is not affected by their mass (assuming a sufficient anchor); the amount of force created is directly proportional to their mass. As for the examples presented in support of force being constant: they can be read the opposite way as well, he becomes lighter to make full use of a weak anchor, and becomes heavier to increase the force he exerts.
  10. So Wax (who is, presumably, an average powered Allomancer) can flatten buildings, just like anyone else (the only difference being that he does not go flying)? I find it hard to believe that any other Coinshot could do the same, especially since it is remarkable in-world. Another example was in the beginning fight when he pushed the tables (etc.) away from himself while at increased mass. P.S.: Force = Mass x Acceleration
  11. I'm fairly certain that having a greater mass greatly increases your ability to exert force through Allomantic steel (and, presumably, iron). Every time that Wax needed to push on something strongly in AofL, he increased his mass. I don't believe that every single time it was only so that he would not be pushed as far. (also, IIRC, he does some stunts that Vin would have been envious of while increasing his mass). By keeping the comparison to a single person, we can eliminate the variation between strengths of different people.
  12. No, we don't know that (though, it is the most likely explanation). It is possible that atium is not chemical at all, and reacts to being inside a human (or, an allomancer's) body, as opposed to reacting to acid.
  13. Pewter/Iron. Wear 100-200 pounds of armour (either metal plate or stone/leather/wood), constantly fill ironminds as much as possible, giving yourself a total mass (including armour) the same as a normal person. You should have the same strength, speed, agility etc... as a normal unarmoured person, but be much better protected. Burn pewter to make yourself a better melee fighter.
  14. My guess: Hoid was using magic of some kind (not any of the metallic arts), which Vin subconsciously detected with Bronze (she was burning it, right?)
  15. I don't have any evidence against the first two (though they seem like oddly specific skills to have spent time learning), but seeing in the dark is specifically granted by Allomancy, and not by Feruchemy IIRC. When Sazed enters a dark area (steel ministry cavern?), he remarks something to that effect.
