  1. Thank you for the birthday wishes! I can't wait for more Brandon :)

  2. Not really, just look at the sales figures for WoT vs any other Brandon book... perhaps this will change after SA becomes the epic Epic of epicness! Fell
  3. I know it's not normally kosher according to the rules of the forum, but that post made me smile so I needed to +1 it Fell
  4. Hello Katey, and thank you so much for making me waste about 5 days on that site Fell
  5. I assumed that Szeth's grandfather is dead, so it's ok to refer to him, whereas the father is still alive. I could be way off base though. Fell
  6. Sweet! I will definitely make an attempt to sit in. I may even ask a question or three Fell
  7. Anyone else picture this: when reading this? “Your house needs you. Thousands of families rely upon you. They need your leadership and your guidance. You did not ask for this, I understand. But the mark of a great man is one who knows when to set aside the important things in order to accomplish the vital ones.” The butler left, closing the door behind him. Fell
  8. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
  9. Only because of the wording, I totally have to correct you and say "cosmere" Anyway, hopefully the sense of humour comes through the internets, no I'm really not a grammar nazi! Welcome aboard! Fell
  10. I love it. IIRC, it was stated somewhere (annotations?) that the Court of the Gods is constantly filled with Returned who display particular attributes, e.g. Lightsong the Brave. Perhaps there are only a certain number of said sub-attributes for Endowment. I think I may have to espouse this theory. Fell
  11. I find Shallan the most interesting character so far, possibly in great part due to the mystery surrounding her past and her current powers. So I'd say she's my favourite character, but I identify most strongly with Kaladin. As an army squad-leader type myself, Kaladin demonstrates some of the best qualities of leadership I've even seen in fictional form. Fell
  12. Other than the fact that you would need to imagine perfectly the process needed to do the taxes? Heck, it's challenging with a guide for each line. Fell, sword-lover
  13. No, no quotes. However, I did just go back and check the map and read I-4 about Shinovar, and it seems to back up the position that the highstorms cannot be continent-sized. If they were, they would easy circumvent the mountain ranges to the south or north (depending on which direction the winds blow, clockwise or counter-clockwise). Also, I am talking about far more destruction than the highstorms do. If there was truly a continental sized hurricane, the winds near the edges of the storm would have to be traveling somewhere between 500-1000 mph, depending on how large the continent is. This would be like having a storm 100-1000 times the power of Katrina every few days. It would be impossible for almost any life to survive, and simply pointing structures toward the stormwall would be useless. Finally, the map would not have the directions East and West as Stormward and Leeward if the winds blew in a circular motion depending on where on the continent you are. I think that the book's answer, that the storms originate in the East at a place called the Origin, travel westerly through some mechanism we cannot be exactly sure of, and consistently lose strength as they travel over land, is the one that makes the most sense at the moment. Fell
  14. Yes, they have disabled new people joining at the moment, though I hear that there is a hack-around that you can do to circumvent the message. I'll probably just wait until they open the testing to more people. Fell
  15. Thanks! I don't see it yet, and I thougt I had added it to my profile, but my email address is [email protected]. I'll update my profile. Fell
  16. Oops. I was sure that was how it was pronounced, but continuing my re-listen today, it is clearly "Zeth". Fell
  17. I'm going to take a shot at answering some of your questions, and someone please correct me if I get any details wrong. I am numbering your questions 1-17 to make it easier. 2. Brandon as said that the numbers 10 and 16 are important to the cosmere, and how it works. I very much doubt that the numbers have anything to do with a Shard/Planet numbering system. We will have to RAFO on the reasons why these numbers are so important. 9. The audiobook pronounces his name "Seth". I expect that Brandon gave his input on how the names should be pronounced. 15. I have pictured "marbled skin" as similar to cows, but I could be wrong about that. You have some very interesting questions eri. I'm glad you joined our group I am in the process of doing a re-read and re-listen, and I am compiling a big list of questions. Apologies in advance for when I post them all at once! Fell
  18. I'll take an invite, if you please! Fell
  19. Do you have a list of what the figures in the chapter headings mean?? I was rather sure that we had gotten a big RAFO on what they all mean. Fell
  20. and if not... at least we'd have even cooler !Fell
  21. I think that you are right, they are completely different magic systems. Brandon said that the Stormlight Archive will have (paraphrase) around 30 different magic systems, depending on how you look at it. It has been speculated that this means 10 orders each of Surgebinding, Soulcasting, and Voidbinding. Fell
  22. Don't forget 10*16! That should be an important rank Fell
  23. Interesting thought, but I think you are a bit off-track. Aluminum was extremely rare in Mistborn, as TLR suppressed knowledge of it. Also, Aluminum was extremely rare during the technological epoch of Mistborn (assuming similar mining capabilities to that period of Earth history). It was only discovered fairly recently, and how to mine it properly. So I think that's the reason nobody knew about it, and it's Allomantically inert simply because of what its other properties are (destroying metals). Same thing for Duralumin, and it was not noticed simply because Vin never even considered using such a powerful/useful alloy instead of readily available coins. Fell
