I mean in OB specifically, all battles were without plate.

Aside from flashbacks, I do not believe there is any use of sharp plate in the entire book by a protagonist. Is this significant? Perhaps just to add more significance to attaining shardplate in its true form in the next book?

I was listening to the audio book, I thought he was named food because he loves to eat. I agree the flying guys make it more complex but these attacks were never explained and we were reminded of the remaining listeners several time by Venli's thoughts.

Is it Food and the surviving singers who are raiding the caravans on the Shattered Plains? No one is hurt during these attacks and they say the attacks don't make sense.
