  1. I personally dislike characters not for their actions, but how much they interest me. I love Taravangian and Moash as characters, not because I agree with them as people, but because I find their motives and personalities unique and interesting. That being said, I've always disliked Adolin because IMO he comes off as somewhat cliche and vanilla compared to many other characters in the series.
  2. I love Taravangian and his plan post-OB not necessarily because it is incredibly wise or feasible, because it is an alternative that represents a moralistic gray area. One thing I love about the stormlight archive and the cosmere as a whole is the shades of gray that persist with any scenario. And though his plan may have seriously lost some traction I find it interesting nonetheless because it is a different approach to the problem than what the radiants have to offer.
  3. Awesome point, I clearly went into this with too many assumptions. Thanks for the help.
  4. Great point with the shards acting as personifications of their own individual ideals, I've definitely seen that within the cosmere before. I guess I missed that because of the way Odium acted so human in my opinion. Nonetheless, thank you for your input.
  5. Huh, interesting points here. It seems as though my question was even bigger and more complex than I thought. Thanks for showing me this.
  6. This is a great explanation thank you. I don't remember reading anything claiming the cognitive and physical realms in roshar were any closer though. But it's entirely possible I just missed it.
  7. Ok that's the best explanation I've seen so far, thanks for the help
  8. This seems to be a somewhat unpopular opinion on these forums but I honestly loved Taravangian as a character, and though I didn't always agree with his choices, I always found myself rooting for him. His perspective has always been my favorite in the series, and his interlude in WoR has easily been my favorite moment throughout all of the Stormlight Archive so far. I just love the way that he lives in a ruse and uses the ruse to act as the ultiimate utilitarian but still sees the evil in his actions. What are your thoughts on Taravangian as a character?
  9. Before reading Oathbringer my running theory for what spren were was that they were essentially shards of Honor. Shards of a shard if you will; tiny pieces of Adonalsium. However, after reading Oathbringer it seems like Honor was creating spren even when he was alive along with Odium and possibly even Cultivation. I was also wondering why spren don't appear in the cosmere outside of roshar. I'm somewhat confused about this topic and would love to hear what you all think.
  10. So based off of the revelation of this book the humans on roshar were originally of odium instead of honor or cultivation. That begs the question; why is Renarin the only human we know of to have bonded a spren of odium? Why are the humans bonding spren of Honor? And why was Honor so accepting of the humans if they were so cruel to his beings?
  11. Thank you for the super helpful reply. Also I'll be sure to check out Arcanum!
  12. Hey everyone I'm new to these forums but I had a few questions that I wanted to ask that I got from reading the original Mistborn trilogy as well as the newer Wax and Wayne books. My first question has to do with the way the preservation used the mists in The Hero of Ages to snap allomancers. If my memory serves me correctly, (and please do correct me if I'm wrong cus it's been a while) 1/16th of those who fell ill to the mists became especially sick. Those who became especially sick turned out to be atium mistings. We later learn however that atium is not one of the 16 base metals, but one of the God metals. This means that there are at least 17 possible mistings. Shouldn't 1/17th of those who fell to the mists become atium mistings then? Also, what about malatium, is it possible to have a malatium misting? And finally, what about lerasium, is it possible to have an alloy of lerasium?
