      Oathbringer Spoiler Policy   11/13/2017

Oathbringer is out! Let's make our policy on spoilers clear! 1. You must preface topics with Oathbringer spoilers with the prefix [OB] in the front 2. You are only allowed to post spoilers and spoiler topics in the Oathbringer Spoiler Board, Cosmere Theories, and some select work-related forums. 3. For posts in the Oathbringer Spoiler Board you do not need to use spoiler tags inside a topic marked [OB]. For Cosmere Theories, you also do not need to put spoiler tags inside your topic if the topic has [OB] in the title. However, for Cosmere Theories, if you are adding Oathbringer stuff to an old theory without the [OB] tag, those must go in spoiler tags and you must make it obvious outside the spoiler tag that the spoiler is regarding Oathbringer content. 4. For select things that do require talking about OB spoilers, in Events, Coppermind, and Arcanum forums, those are allowed but keep OB spoilers in spoiler tags 5. Avoid and minimize spoilers in topic titles--even though those two boards will not appear in the Recent Topics ticker, topic titles still appear in Recent Activity and the forum home.  6. You aren't allowed to post Oathbringer spoilers in places other than listed, even with spoiler tags.  It will be nine months and then the Oathbringer board will be re-merged with the Stormlight board and you will not need to tag these spoilers. If you'd like to move something in the Stormlight Archive board to the Oathbringer board, to update it with new Oathbringer information, Report the post and we will happily move it to the Oathbringer spoiler board. Part-by-part Reactions Though the Oathbringer Spoiler Board will be very spoilery, very fast (maybe don't come there until you've read the book, as people do have copies that bookstores sold early), you'll have these five topics for reactions if you want to nerd out: Part 1 Reactions
      Part 2 Reactions
      Part 3 Reactions
      Part 4 Reactions
Full Book Reactions For parts 1-4, they will not include the interludes immediately following it. On Discord All Oathbringer spoilers on Discord will be exclusively in the #oathbringer_spoilers channel for the nine month spoiler period and nowhere else.

  1. Ooooohh, that makes a lot more sense. Thanks! In that case, yes, it looks great and I am excited because it's definitely a step in the right direction
  2. I loove Elantris. It is probably my favorite Cosmere book after Stormlight. I would absolutely buy it, if I were you and you can't get it at your library. It's a wonderful story, even if the Brandon Avalanche at the end is a little overwhelming. I'm on the same page as @Ammanas, I loved the character of Hrathen and his arc. So yes, buy it, even if it's just the paperback or Kindle edition.
  3. Is anyone not excited about this?? I for one, am not. I would much rather see a TV series or movie than a VR experience. No offense to the producers, and this looks great, but I'm not very excited for this.
  4. @MonsterMetroid, I would definitely meet up with you... if I lived in Arizona, which I don't, so just do what @podman36 said Although podman, I would like to mention that that's totally not how I read the title. I read it as "Hey I'm a Cosmere fan in Arizona, anyone live there and want to hang out"
  5. @Quiver I would second this reccomendation for FFG LCGs. I actually just purchased Netrunner about a week ago, and so far I'm very satisfied... although the initial buy in did make me cringe. I don't play MTG but I've thought about it a few times and so I did some research. If I were going to get started in MTG I would buy the Deck Builder`s toolkit for the most recent set. It has everything you need, and plenty of cards for limitless deckbuilding (probably not limitless) and it's $20'ish on Amazon. Oh, and all the cards are standard legal.
  6. Thanks for both of your answers @Kureshi Ironclaw and @hoiditthroughthegrapevine! I think I've decided where to start it, but I'll give you a little bit of an outline and see if you have any more suggestions. I do most of my outlining in my head, but I'll try to put it into writing. The main characters are all criminals of various sorts, one's a deserter with a drinking problem, another's a top-notch hacker who got backstabbed and no longer trusts anyone and a few others, but those are the two I'm focusing on. Now the situation. A black hole/void of some sort has appeared in the orbit of a series of planets. As the planets become closer and closer to the void/black hole, the government decides to send a team in to investigate, but they don't want to send their scientists/military for obvious reasons (i.e not knowing what's on the other side), so they decide to send the prison population destined for execution into the void. It's a way to investigate that keeps the military and scientists safe, and if something goes wrong, the prison guys were destined for execution anyway, so what the heck, right?? So that's what's going on, tell me what you think, but here's what I'm planning on doing. I'm giving a chapter or scene to each of the characters I mentioned, and then go right into their approach to the void and what happens afterward. Hopefully, that's enough information for you guys to give me some suggestions. Thanks in advance!
  7. Quick tip, if you narrow down your search by just topic titles, you can find what you're looking for a whole lot faster
  8. Speaking of which, I just maxed out Yes @podman36, I just figured out it was upped. Apparently, I should scale back my upvote usage
  9. Hi

You're starting the same way I did! I started with the WoK, and it will always hold a special place in my heart Warbreaker is very heavily interwoven with Stormlight, so it might enhance your Stormlight experience to read that. And like you mentioned, Edgedancer. It really helps establish some of the characters in OB. After that, I would suggest Mistborn, just because it's so STORMING AMAZING!!!!! Yes, I do know what you mean, and Kaladin will always be my favorite character. However!!! I love all the characters (at least at this moment I can't think of anyone I dislike) and I'm really looking forward to Szeth's book (book 5), and Jasnah's book, (one of the back 5). I don't think we'll turn back to "the crew" because they're all the crew. Dalinar, Kaladin, Shallan, Jasnah, Szeth, Eshonai, Venli, Lift, Renarin, Adolin, Shallash, they're all part of "the crew", so focusing on their individual characters and backstories won't necessarily turn the books away from "the crew" (Although I do understand that you mean the original POV characters from WoK, and yes, they're still my favorite)
  10. So I've maxed out my upvotes a few times, and I'm wondering if anyone else does this? I can give 16 upvotes a day (not sure if it increases with reputation). I've only maxed out a few times, and so I started this poll to see how many upvotes everyone gives on an average day.
  11. Hey guys! I had an idea for a sci-fi, space opera'ish ensemble novel a while back, and I've been working on it off and on, but I can't seem to find out where to start it. The members haven't been together before, so I can't start it at the finish of their last operation. Where do I start it? Do I give a chapter/scene to each character in turn before they meet? Or dive right into their first meeting and the start of the action? I can't decide, HELP PLEASE!!!!!
  12. Hi

Welcome, @ElvisSpren! Good to have you along! So is Stormlight the only series of Brandon's you've read so far? Have an upvote, have fun, don't accept cookies, and happy reading!
  13. Sorry, I derailed this thread ... it looks like it's back on track though, so that's good Anyway, I'm with everyone else on this. If I could choose, I would go with Szeth, just because I want more Szeth, RIGHT NOW!!!!! But I do feel like Szeth could really grow in Book 4 in a way that colors his flashbacks differently when we finally get them, so I'm okay waiting for Book 5.
  14. Thanks! I didn't like it either, and I didn't expect it to live very long. Thanks for killing it, good riddance.
  15. Gotcha. I always expected it would be one of the back 5 characters that were dead before their book. I assumed after OB that Venli would become the flashback character, but I have been proven wrong. Yes, I agree that that's what will probably happen... Thanks for the WOB's @RShara! ... I literally just thought of this, and I don't have anything to back it up, and it'll probably be proved false in about a minute, but what if Timbre is Eshonai? Yeah, that theory's not going to last long.
