  1. The surges are inherent to Roshar and possibly even the cosmere, while surgebinding is generally seen as being of Honour and Cultivation (although there is debate over this). I believe that surgebinding is of both Honour and Cultivation because it comes from spren who are of both Honour and Cultivation. Therefore, as the ten types of spren that grant surgebinding are of both H&C, the radiants are not of Honour alone but of Honour and Cultivation. If this is the case there are not ten of Honour and ten of Cultivation but ten of both. The rear endsheet of the Way of Kings is a diagram related to Voidbinding, a magic that draws from Odium. It is similar to the diagram related to surgebinding, so it seems likely that there are ten kinds of voidbinding and that they use the surges in some way. This conclusion is also supported by the Ars Arcanum of Words of Radiance and some WoB. I theorise that voidbringers are splinters, either partially or wholly, of Odium. In this case, as voidbinding will involve the spren of Odium, there may be up to 10 kinds of voidbringer corresponding to spren of the surgebinders.
  2. I may have misunderstood something, but how does your theory explain the complete removal of identity?
  3. After you've hidden it for a week. Not immediately after obtaining it.
  4. The most likely book for an answer will be Nightblood, the sequel to Warbreaker. I don't know when that is planned to be released. If the answer is not there, as all magic in the Cosmere follows similar principles, if we see memory alteration magic in other books we may gain insight into memory alteration through Awakening.
  5. He could try to cut off his arm, but that would be difficult, if Amaram defended himself.
  6. A spinner is a chromium ferring. They manipulate fortune, a spiritual attribute.
  7. I'm sure they are not one person in Roman Catholic theology. They are one in essence, one God, yet three in person. This is, of course, impossible to fully comprehend. God is described at points in the bible as hating certain things, such as oppression. However, I do not think that it is necessarily best to restrict consideration of possible shards to attributes of the Judeo/Christian God. In any case, Mr Sanderson's beliefs differ significantly from mine, so what I see as attributes of God do not necessarily match his.
  8. To be honest, having thought about it more I don't think that cadmium/bendalloy can create perpendicularities except under specific conditions. They move energy as a side effect, it isn't the main purpose.
  9. I never intended to suggest that enough investiture could only be concentrated through cadmium/bendalloy. Nor was I trying to suggest that the concentration of investiture would create the perpendicularity. I certainly don't believe that the surge of transportation creates perpendicularities by concentrating investiture, but I believe that it uses some other means to form a perpendicularity. I was trying to suggest that cadmium and bendalloy could imitate the mechanism used by the surge of transportation. I wasn't trying to suggest that cadmium and bendalloy are better than the other powers, especially with regard to the concentration of investiture. I'm sorry that I wasn't clear, I'm not very good at explaining things.
  10. I see it as being a matter of what the energy is used for, not the amount of energy used. Steel allomancy pulls energy from the spiritual realm, but it doesn't use it to move energy between realms. By contrast, cadmium allomancy pulls energy from the spiritual realm and uses it to move energy between realms, although clearly other things are also happening. It seems reasonable then to me that perhaps it may be possible that pulsing or sliding with sufficient power at an appropriate location could create a perpendicularity. I see the amount of investiture used as irrelevant; what matters is what it's used for.
  11. My reason for suggesting the idea is that external temporal allomancy can already move energy between realms, so it doesn't seem like much of a stretch to suggest that if enough power were used, eg a duralumin flare, then a path for matter to pass through, ie a perpendicularity, could be formed.
  12. A perpendicularity is not necessarily permanent, nor stable, nor formed only by a high concentration of investiture. There are temporary perpendicularities on Threnody that have "morbid origins" and there is no shard there. It is also vital to note that the surge of transportation can create or enhance perpendicularities, and it does not seem to me that doing so requires vast quantities of investiture. I do not suggest that the creation of perpendicularities is unique to time manipulation. I do suggest that it is possible for perpendicularities to be created through techniques that cause movement between realms without a need for vast quantities of investiture. Again, it is possible for a perpendicularity to form without vast quantities of investiture provided a method of forming one is used.
  13. I understand this, but the speed bubbles seem to create an area where investiture is moved between realms, whereas other forms of allomancy seem to draw investiture into themselves to use the power. So like, steel and iron use investiture to apply a force to a metal object, but cadmium and bendalloy use investiture to form an area where investiture is moved.
  14. When an object enters or leaves a speed bubble, its energy changes. As most of the energy does not seem to go anywhere in the physical realm (there would be clear signs if this were the case which aren't present) the energy must be transferred to one of the other realms.
  15. I think that it may be possible for a sliding or pulsing with enough power to create a perpendicularity. It seems that Sliding and Pulsing moves energy between Realms, so it seems reasonable to me that if one or the other were to be done powerfully enough a perpendicularity would form. I see this as being slightly similar to how a soothing of sufficient power can bring a hemalurgic construct under a person's control.
  16. I don't think he had a shardblade. If he had one, he would have used it rather than an ordinary sword. Also, IIRC he was still screaming when he hit the ground, so he died then. If he had a shardblade it would have appeared. I don't think he had a Shardblade.
  17. Having thought about it more, I now think that there is one Mistborn circuit, but it's made of many parallel circuits. This, to me, goes towards both explaining why there are no natural double misting so and why only one power can be spiked at a time. What did you think of my idea for the nature of fortune? Personally, I'm not sure about the use of the word connection. Do you have any ideas for other words?
  18. I like most of this, so I'll comment on some of it, although my understanding of it is mostly just headcanon. I like this analogy, because I like the theory that Investiture (or Connection) has wave-like properties and if that is the case, it would make sense to me that changes in the spirit web's connection could be compared to chemistry. As I understand it, Snapping as an allomancer establishes connections to Preservation (the ones that enable Investiture to flow to the allomancer when a metal is burnt) so new connections are being formed from the allomancer's sDNA by Snapping. I disagree with this, because I see Intent and Identity as different things. Intent is like a character of the shards' investiture that determines what it does and how it acts, while Identity is more like a tag associated with Investiture that distinguishes individual blocks of Investiture. All shards are able to see the future, as they exist primarily in the spiritual realm and can see into it. Anyone who sees into the spiritual realm can see through time, although their ability to predict the future varies. I agree with Calderis' view that the intent of shards determines their ability to see the future. What you say about Feruchemy seems to be accurate, although I can't judge its accuracy, as I don't know much about it. I thought that shards were more like a great quantity of investiture, with a specific intent, and don't have much in the way of a spirit web unless left alone for a long time, but can fuse with a person, filling their soirit web with power. Once again, I can't really comment on Feruchemy. As for the difference between mistings and mistborn, I would say that mistborn have more Connection to Preservation but it's spread out between many allomancy circuits, while mistings only have one allomancy circuit. I don't think mistborn have only one allomancy circuit. Feruchemists would have similar circuits, but made from the investiture of Preservation and Ruin, with their intents mixed together. What caused you to change your mind? My wild guess is that Fortune affects your ability to actively shape your future, without any other action, so like everyone has a connection to what may happen in the future so by manipulating one's fortune, it is possible to increase the likelyhood of desired occurences, because they're more connected to someone. This is just wild speculation though. I'm fairly sure all possible futures are contained in the Spiritual Realm, so fortune is Spiritual.
  19. If a soulcaster were to make urea, what gemstone would be used? What gemstone would be needed for acetic acid and what for stearic acid? How does the definition of an organic compound relate to soulcasting?
  20. How reasonable their actions are has nothing to do with whether or not their actions are of Odium or Honour. Adolin's hatred is a form of odium because it was reasonable given Sadeas' actions. Dalinar's desire to ally with Sadeas is a form of honour despite all reason. That said, I do not believe that Adolin is likely to be the champion because he has not continued to act out of hatred.
  21. My idea was that a Mistborn would use the metal coating intentionally in the hope of being able to burn it quickly enough that it does not explode, hence the duralumin just in case. While it may be possible to use ettmetal as an explosive in such a way, the tiny amount that would be used is unlikely to kill anyone but the person who ate it. Ultimately, the reaction that would occur is that the ettmetal would react with stomach juices to give heat and hydrogen gas, which would then explode. Such a tiny amount of ettmetal is extremely unlikely to produce enough hydrogen to cause a large explosion, so the biggest issue is burning the stomach, which would only be fatal to the person who ate the ettmetal. It is important though to keep in mind that the realmatics of the reaction are unknown and I based my suggestions on the reactivity of caesium, which is not identical to ettmetal. Pagerunner started a useful topic called "the chemistry of God metals" which has more useful information concerning ettmetal, which I suggest you read. It is far more useful than my posts in this thread.
  22. Ettmetal is speculated to have alkali metal reactivity, which would be like sodium or potassium in water or hydrochloric acid. If this is the case, then it will not explode on contact with molten metals, as they do not have the same reaction with alkali metals that acids such as hydrochloric acid or water do. Depending on the melting point of ettmetal it may be possible to coat it in metal and in dry conditions there is no risk of explosion in doing so. Alkali metals do not explode on contact with all liquids, only those which are reduced to a potentially explosive compound (such as water to hydrogen) in a fast, highly exothermic reaction.
  23. I suspect the safest way to burn ettmetal is to burn an alloy of it that is less reactive than pure ettmetal. Changing the conditions inside the Mistborn so that ettmetal does not react would most likely lead to death. Alloys could show some of the possibilities of A-ettmetal while still being safe to use. If ettmetal burns very quickly then it may also be possible to use pure ettmetal through CayJoBla's idea, although I would recommend coating it in duralumin to be on the safe side. An easier way to assassinate allomancers would be to spike their metals with cadmium or some other highly toxic metal.
  24. To me, Honorblades feel like fabrials, just ones made by Honour and thus far better than ordinary fabrials. After all, we know that fabrials are capable of replicating surges: and there is even this WoB: so Honorblades are definitely analogous to the fabrials we have seen. In addition, we know that there are fabrials that do not use spren, ie Soulcasters. For these reasons, it may be possible to use the Honorblade to gain a better understanding of fabrial tech, if they recognise the similarity (although they may find them as difficult to understand as the soulcasters).
  25. I don't see any reason to assume that it's possible to tap a metalmind that hasn't been filled, which is my primary reason for doubting the "tap a metal to obtain feruchemy" theories. If it were possible, why isn't it possible to just tap youth from atium without storing any? It seems more likely to me that it was either given by Preservation or arose through some spiritual mutation, as those seem to have reason to believe they could work. I think tapping ettmetal may be possible even if it hasn't been filled due to the "energy" it seems to have, but I think only a full feruchemist could do this. Regarding the 50/50 atium/lerasium alloy, as atium allows sight into the spiritual realm and lerasium alters the spirit web I suspect that the alloy would give more specific alteration or would partially move the burner to the spiritual realm permanently. These seem more reasonable to me than giving feruchemy. As for compounding, I assumed that filling a metalmind could turn the compounder into some sort of savant while it is being filled, which could be seen as a kind of compounding.
