  1. Can we please talk for a second about all the fan art that shows Syl as this like super babe? I mean if she's a pretty person thats great but the fancy dresses and giant boobs seem ridiculous. She's described as wearing a childlike dress, and I dont know any children that dress like this.
  2. Thanks @Wreith, thats exactly the info i was looking for. Granted I really should just go look in Archanum Unbounded apparently, but that's all the way at home, so i'll do that later.
  3. you're right i was thinking about that wrong, i didn't mean geosychronous. is there a moon orbit where it appears in the sky at the same time every day? In WoR, chapter 60, Veil Walks, Shallan is in her room in Sebarial's manor researching and Pattern makes the comment, "It is second moon. Each night, you sleep during this time. But not tonight." I suppose second moon could be a time of day and not actually reference when a moon is in the sky, but i it does reference when the second moon is in the sky, and Shallan normally sleeps at that time, that indicates that the second moon is visible in the sky at the same time every night. Maybe its like a crazy fast orbit, so the moon is actually orbiting Roshar fast enough that it arrives in the same spot in the sky every night. I guess that would mean it would have to orbit twice as quickly as the planet spins?
  4. I kind of like Danlan for the Terriswoman world-hopper that Brandon mentions, though I dont really have any evidence for this other than that she is one of the more prominent of the obscure women.
  5. Does anybody know the pattern of the moons? I'm re-reading WoR currently and I got to a part where Shallan is studying in Sebarials manor and Pattern notes that she normally sleeps during the second moon, or something along those lines. Does that mean that Nomon is in a geosynchronous orbit, so its always up at the same time of day (or rather, night in this case)? I'm just curious if anybody has looked into it and/or asked Brandon about it.
  6. I like this theory. The mold doesn't necessarily have to be the final villain, any more than the ash was the final villain in mistborn era 1, odium or some other baddy can still be the villain that's using/encouraging the mold.
  7. So, also, what if there can be an odiumspren, but not necessarily of odium. This is a little twisty but spren are essentially cognitive things coming into the physical world, so if the people of Roshar, who are of Honor and Cultivation, have a concept of Odium, or at least some kind of devil, then that could create an odiumspren that is actually of honor/cultivation. This is kind of seperate from the issue of Taln, but could provide a godspren for a Bondsmith to bond. On another note, there could be several sources of godspren, really any and all religions of Roshar could produce one or several godspren, and they would all have the worship or fear or whatever of mortals in common, hence providing the same powers to bondsmiths.
  8. Is it worth trying to do any math on this one? Maybe when i get home this afternoon I'll grab AoL and see if that gives enough numbers to make a guess, granted that doesn't take into account savantism. That or based on that WoB i guess we could do some special theory of relativity math to make a prediction.
  9. Is it possible that Marasi could make a Cadmium bubble last long enough that she ends up in the third era mistborn novels? I'm not sure why this would happen, maybe she gets stuck in one on accident, or maybe she becomes aware of something important happening a few centuries in the future, but can anybody confirm or deny if this is possible?
  10. I have a couple of questions. First @Confused, are you predicting anything specific with this theory? I'm a pretty standard lurker, and I really just started exploring this thread, so I I'm still hazy on some of the details, but I have some questions/comments on some of the higher level ideas. "The exception that proves the rule" is a phrase that fits language construction more than natural laws. When it comes to natural laws, if it has an exception, its wrong, or at least that exception has to be said to occur outside of the scope of that theory. This I think really cuts to the core of the disagreement on your theory, because definitions are extremely important. Based no everything you have said, your theory seems defensible and fits the data that we have, but that doesn't make it a good theory. Its like trying to map the motions of the planets with Earth as the center, you can make something that's technically correct, but doesn't give you much insight into how the planets move, you have to put the sun in the middle for that to happen. So there are my critiques, now here is what I have to add. I would define Investiture differently. Instead of thinking of investiture as something seperate from the power of creation (The Powers), I think of it more as a mechanism that holds the power of creation. When a gemstone holds stormlight, it is holding, or invested with, a part of the power of creation. Perhaps this power has been moved through a shard, or comes from power that is inherent to roshar as of its creation, but that's irrelevant. Or another way of saying it is that the power of creation seems to be one thing, and investiture simply describes that powers current state. The state of investiture shapes what is possible for that power to do. Does that make sense? I'm saying that investiture is not power, it in and of itself cannot move objects or be magical, its just a term used to discuss something that is currently holding or shaping the power of creation. I also have one more note. I'm a little confused how everybody is defining internal and external investiture or power. Internal and external to what exactly? The person that is currently using the power? Is a Nahel bond internal to the knight, or external because it connects a knight and a spren? I'm not trying to make a point here I'm legitimately unsure of how to apply these words outside of Allomancy, and with allomancy the devision does seem to be whether the power a person is using affects themselves or something else.
  11. Do we actually know that all shards are in the Cosmere galaxy? Is there a WoB on that?
  12. *walks in slowly, "there doesn't seem to be anybody here", starts poking books laying around, sits on a chair with a buttprint that doesn't quite fit, "I guess i'll just hang out until somebody shows up..." "...Books before friends. 17th Shard before the real world. Release dates before birthdays. "...and, uh, I will read that which has not been read I will stay silent amongst many words I will enjoy without being upvoted, but, you know, if you want to throw an upvote on occasion...I mean I'm not against them *I guess thats good enough for now maybe I'll stick my head in again later."
  13. I'm really hungry and now really want bacon. i think if there were a bacon shard i would need a plate of bacon next to me or I wouldn't be able to make it through any reading about it without getting distracted and hungry. I think its totally reasonable that a shard can end up acting in ways that that intent never would as a part of the unified whole that is Adonalsium. Take Odium for example. I'm going to paraphrase because i don't feel like looking up the exact quote but he is 'full of hate but without the context that once gave it bounds'. ie, Adonalsium wouldn't necessarily go on a shard killing rampage, but Odium on its own will. So if there were a Unity shard, I think its totally reasonable that it would create a hivemind. I am thinking of it happening Scadrial style. It would create its own hivemind, not assimilate one. I do agree with you on the Aimians, my idea was just a cool thought that isn't totally impossible. I like considering the edges of whats reasonable, because sometimes fun things happen there.
  14. I'm going to submit an idea for a shard that has no basis in any previously stated theory (that I am aware of), that is not based on any patterns or rules I've noticed in the books, that really only comes from the idea that I think this shard would be awesome. I think it would be awesome to see a hivemind shard. The shardholder can invest in a planet and create life, but all of that life would just be an extension of itself. It wouldn't have Harmony's issues with maintaining any kind of balance for free will, there is no free will, except the will of the shard. I don't know what it would be called, it wouldn't be like domination, it might be an "opposite" of autonomy. If this shard did exist, I imagine it possible that Dysian Aimians are a race created by it, in which case at least a part of the shard itself would be on Roshar. That last part falls apart a bit when you start thinking of Siah Aimians as well. Thoughts? Anybody else have ideas for shards that would just be cool, without worrying too much about how it fits into any unifying theories of the cosmere?
  15. The nightwatcher the one that wants to kill hoid because he asked her for a boon and when she tried to give him his curse as well he twisted her words back on her and then floated away mary poppins style
