  1. I enjoyed Good Omens, but I SUPER enjoyed Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. Once you finish the book, I also recommend the BBC miniseries of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. I think it's available on Netflix, at least in the US.
  2. @Showman Oh man, I remember playing Dresden in high school band class! Nobody really took it seriously in my class either, especially the part with the whispering/babbling in the background.
  3. When you compare roly-polies (aka pillbugs or potato bugs) to cremlings because they're crustaceans that live on land.
  4. Alternatively: "Gotta go to marching band practice."
  5. Finally got my hands on a library copy of Vengeful by V.E. Schwab! Less than 100 pages in so far, but already enjoying it.
  6. @whattheHoid You can report your own double post to the mods and ask them to remove it for you.
  7. I should be all right for most weeknights except Mondays, and Saturday nights will also not work for me once I get settled into my new job in these next couple of weeks. It's looking like Thursdays work for most people who've posted so far, and they should for me too.
  8. I found a Great Horned Owl today, completely by accident! I mean, yes, I was out deliberately looking for birds, but not in a place where I was expecting to find an owl... Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures because there were a bunch of branches and twigs in the way, but it was still a neat experience! I never would have spotted him if the trees hadn't been completely bare of leaves--it made his silhouette really obvious.
  9. Aha! I have finally graduated from Bondsmith to Lerasium Mistborn! Fear my Allomancy.
  10. I'm hoping I will not bring down the wrath of the mods by necro-ing my own art thread, but after a looooong hiatus, I have some new art to share! I decided to do something different and try my hand at drawing some birds. So far I've only done two, but I'm quite happy with how they turned out. Townsend's Warbler, a small songbird found in western North America: Blackburnian Warbler, another small songbird, but this one's found in eastern North America. In terms of visual appeal, I think it is the single prettiest bird I've ever seen.
  11. Inspired by a conversation/rant in the Discord a few nights ago:
  12. I was bored, so I memefied a couple more quotes.
  13. Finished reading Naomi Novik's Spinning Silver this week. I think it is probably her best book yet. (Compared to the Temeraire series and Uprooted)
  14. I have been arting this week for the first time in a while This colorful little birb is called a Townsend's Warbler. He's found in western North America and can fit in the palm of your hand. Original colored pencil drawing: Adobe Photoshop version based on the pencil drawing:
  15. When you go to see Aquaman in theaters, and one of the giant crablike sea monsters prompts the thought, "Oh hey look, a chasmfiend!"
  16. Got some more bird photos to share! From a local cemetery that lots of birds love (4 photos): From BYU campus, where I participated in a "Christmas Bird Count," a fun bit of citizen science that helps keep track of long-term trends in bird populations (4 photos):
  17. @Sorana Wow, that flag is awesome! I am impressed with your sewing skills. I have some new nature photos to share! A few birds from a pond in Salt Lake City one snowy day (3 photos in spoiler): Snowy mountains seen from BYU campus (2 photos): Very smol falcon called a Merlin (2 photos):
  18. Not me! I was hanging out in Discord and knew that someone there would post the link as soon as it was up, and I was right.
  19. Started reading Vicious by V.E. Schwab this morning, and I've plowed through 3/4 of the book according to my Kindle's progress bar. I'm enjoying it a LOT.
  20. I got to see some of my favorite ducks yesterday! They are called Hooded Mergansers, but I like to call them "hoodies" for short. 2 photos under the spoiler:
