  1. Forgive me, but I didn't think that enhanced mental speed actual granted intelligence as well? I was under the impression that it was just the mental equivalent of someone who can speed up time for themselves. Is there a WoB about this one? *edit* For example, it would allow me to think through consequences of a situation in a second, as opposed to taking an hour. But let's say it was something related to maths or physics. If I already knew how to do the equations, then it would allow me to solve them quickly, but without that knowledge, I wouldn't be able to solve them no matter how quickly I could think.
  2. I've been browsing the cosmere facebook groups and came across an interesting question. If you had a twinborn power set, which would you pick and why? You may choose whether you would be in the cosmere or just in real life, if you would wish. Let's assume none of the god metals or their alloys. I am often late to wherever I am going, but do not often move once I am there (desk job), so I think I would pick Feruchemical Speed. Assuming that things like computers can work inside a speed bubble, I would most likely pick bendalloy to speed up time for myself. This combination would be interesting since I could both store speed quickly while losing comparatively little time in the world. I could also get work done quickly as well For reference, here are the powers: http://coppermind.net/wiki/Metallic_Arts#Metals_and_their_abilities
  3. Night blood is confirmed to be a sort of robot spren as per WoB. We've seen in the war breaker books that he can choose to "bond" with whoever he chooses, as seen by his ability to speak in the minds of people. This is an assumption on the way night blood works, since i know other spren can talk to multiple people without rebonding. Brandon has also confirmed that if something like a bonded aon were to come to roshar, they would grant their bonded abilities, if not quite the ones we would see by traditional bond. So we could assume, to a certain extent, that night blood can grant a pseudo bond to Szeth and with that, be able to draw in investiture? If not, Nalan/darkness has already shown in the Lift interlude that he somehow has access to storm light/awesomeness, so a better guess would be that he would share the secret with Szeth. This is all assuming that Nightblood can't just directly feed off storm light in spheres.
  4. Stealing wouldn't necessarily mean he is no longer a candidate for the wind-runners. So the sky breakers are out, but not the wind runners. Lirin was doing what he saw as right. If Wistiow actually did request that money go to Kaladin's education, then Lirin was just making sure it was done, even if the circumstances were a bit iffy. Now promises, those are certainly something we know Honorspren care about. So we've got Lirin trying to do what he think's is right, as well as keep promises. I don't actually think that Lirin will become a radiant, just that his actions to date still fit within the wind runners ideals and would certainly be a twist.
  5. I can see why that theory about Lirin being one of the ageless holds weight. He doesn't seem to condemn them specifically, more like he pities their senseless...ness?
  6. Thank you I would be very interested to see if losing Tien for sure and Kaladin not coming home would have been able to put enough of a crack in Lirin's soul to allow a bonding with spren. Wouldn't THAT be an interesting twist.
  7. I see what you're saying, but I don't think Lirin completely goes against Kaladin's beliefs. While Kal finds it 'easy' to kill, he finds the actual idea of it uncomfortable unless he is able to divide between the us and the them( and even then.....). Kaladin will do what he has to in order to protect, but he still hasn't decided whether you really can kill to protect(despite saying so to Syl). It's this dichotomy that makes him such an interesting character. You can understand his worship of his father on multiple levels too. There's a lot to respect in someone who will only heal instead of hurt, even if that means others may be hurt. I got a little off topic. If we are to put it in terms of wind runner ideals: Lirin has chosen life before death - Protect everyone, either by healing them or serving as a lightning rod for the town against Roshone's scorn, Healing even Roshone. Lirin has chosen strength before weakness - He did not break when the city lord or the towns people exerted pressure on him to return the spheres. Lirin has chosen Journey before destination - He could have chosen a path different from the above, but as he explained to Kal after saving Roshone, "Somebody has to start. Somebody has to step forward and do what is right, because it is right. If no body starts, then others cannot follow". Lirin did decide to protect those who cannot protect themselves. I couldn't find the exact quote, but he had decided to stay with the town to protect them against Roshone, instead of leaving. Lirin protected even those he hated, BECAUSE it was right. Do I even need to explain that one? Lirin ultimately does protect. He faced ultimate strain and shunning from his community, but did not break from his ideals. Lirin is the fundamental foundation of Kaladin's identity as a wind runner.
  8. Woah Didn't expect so many replies, will attempt to reply to what I can. While I appreciate the thought, I wasn't thinking so much in terms of using that spren to create another radiant. It was more a case of convincing spren that have been held back by the Storm Father that humans can be trusted again. Carrying around the corpses of the spren's relatives is hardly going to help. We have no guarantee that he would allow the other spren to come and bond, despite bonding Dalinar himself. He hasn't exactly been forthcoming about helping. Would you consider a normal spren to have that same part not there? That's why they can't think in the physical realm. So far they have only talked about waking up a dead spren in the physical world. A spren like Syl before she bonded Kaladin, while technically functional, could hardly be said to be intelligent or really truly awake. This is what I'm meaning too. While they are still powerful weapons, I do have to wonder whether or not they will actually help as they are. Unfortunately this is where my idea begins to fall a bit (or maybe it doesn't). How many greedy light eyes would you expect to actually give up treasures that are worth kingdoms? They would hardly wish to divest themselves of such. The type that have them now are hardly going to be the ones that would bond a new spren as replacement. I agree with many points here, but somehow I don't see "Life before Death" being a good enough reason for all the orders to agree to using the corpses of spren. Some of them maybe though! I actually really like this idea, but I am unsure whether or not they will have time. Humans will be battling other humans as well as Odium remember. It's very possible and almost guaranteed that shardbearers will be facing off against the newly formed KR group. Why is this an issue? Because our radiants are untrained. We have to remember that many of the new radiants will be like Ym. Unable to fight with a blade since their bond is too new. Unable to fight full stop because they may just not have fighting capability. Unable to use their surges due to lack of practice. Then we also need to remember that Nale/Darkness/Nalan is also hunting proto radiants as well. I just don't know that our KR will get the numbers in time. That's part of where the tension in Brandon's books come from. They need time and it is rapidly running out. Now I wouldn't necessarily go that far. While Syl (and I assume other spren) would never allow her personal radiant to use a dead shard blade, She has never tried to get Kaladin to stop associating with those who do. I could still see it becoming an issue later though. Sorry about the huge big post, but you guys brought up a lot of points that I found interesting! -WC
  9. When talking to Dalinar he said something along the lines of "Eshonai's voice on the plateu that day". He was there as part of bridge 4 and had understood that something was wrong with the way she was acting(and possibly the new rhythm's she was using when speaking). As for your other questions... *shrug*
  10. So if someone like Shallan or Jasnah brought a dead shardblade to the cognitive realm, shadesmar, would they be able to think? Brandon specifically said the material plane, but if they are not on the material plane...?
  11. From what I understood ( and please correct me if I'm wrong ), but it is a somewhat accepted theory that Eshonai will eventually become one of the radiants? There's a WOB somewhere saying that, while people in the world would say that a parshendi can't, it was possible. The implication of the view point book implies she at least has a further spot light shined on her if nothing else. The second book shows her internal struggle to be free from the voidspren during the times she attunes peace and then again later on. It would be a very odd choice to show us of her passion and then leave us with a cold dead void bringer. EDIT: found a WOB http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/6439-audio-from-the-san-diego-signing/
  12. Just a few more questions as I finished the audio book again today. What do people think about Rlain(?) and Eshonai in regards to the Knights radiant? Brandon has all but outright said that they CAN become Knights, all though said that anyone on roshar at would probably say they can't. Another question would be asking if Rlain can currently take in storm light. He is still part of bridge four and could be considered one of kaladins squires, just like Lopen(was it confirmed? Or is Lopen a knight too?).
  13. Hey all! Possible spoilers unless you are up to date with Stormlight and Warbreaker. Just wondering about a link between Kaladin's healing ability in relation to the Zahel's ability to change how he looks. Sanderson has confirmed that the reason Kaladin cannot heal his scars is related to the way that Kaladin still views himself as a slave. At the end of war breaker, Zahel (there referred to as Vasher) explains that the Hallendren gods "Look exactly as they think they should. The old ones look old, the heroic ones become strong, the ones who think a beautiful goddess be well endowed become unnaturally voluptuous. It's all about how they perceive themselves" At which point Viv thinks "and this is how you perceive yourself Vasher? As the scraggly man, rough and unkempt?" This implies that Kaladin could (or any radiant), with the help of storm light as a source, completely change how he looks right? More than just no longer viewing himself as a slave and then healing his scars. If he viewed himself as something more, would he not "heal" himself until he was what he perceived himself to be?
  14. You should listen to the first episode of "unattended consequences", a podcast that Patrick Rothfuss does with one of the creators of "cards against humanity". He takes about how different people like/hate different parts of his books. I happened to like those sections.
