  1. I find that writing those awesome parts - even though I haven't quite reached that point yet - helps me get the will to continue on in the not-so-interesting parts. It also helps me with character development, plot solidification (i.e. finding glaring plot holes), and it also helps in being more able to foreshadow future events in the story. Another idea - perhaps you can try writing the story after Riem escapes and crashes the ship, and you reveal how he got to that point with Stormlight-esque flashback sequences or by dropping the details as time progresses?
  2. He's been in the El Salvador East Mission. Which is great, because my dad and I both served in Mexico, another one of my brothers has been studying Spanish in school, and my mother can understand the majority of it. Maybe we should find some Sanderson books that were translated into Spanish... And congrats to your brother!
  3. I'll be gone - my brother gets back from his mission that day. I'll be sure to make it in May, though! For once.
  4. Maybe once spring term starts and I don't actually have any classes bogging me down, I can actually show up once. Back to finishing my last CS project... (CS 236, in case anyone else here is in that class)
  5. I love all the different styles that are beginning to show up here in the Guild. Which reminds me - I drew a picture of Vin a few weeks back that I still need to post. But seriously though, good job everyone!
  6. I got some Prismacolor markers recently... and I'm loving them. This is only one of my examples. And I must say, I really love the flow of these things. I just need to learn how to master them.
  7. Here's something that I've been working on for quite a while, and I don't think that I've posted anything about it here. It's about a girl that wakes up with few memories in the middle of literally nothing - not space, just nothing. Of course, that's pretty well established at the beginning, and of course, there's a lot going on in the background. It's called Planeswept, and has to do with (almost) literally rebuilding their world. I guess that's meta-worldbuilding? http://banderamindworks.com/comics/ps/?page=1
  8. I predict yes. And this time, I'll tell my aunt so then she drags me there (because I really need to socialize) (with people) (in real life) (or so they tell me).
  9. Vin. So much Vin. I love Dalinar and all, but... Vin would still win.
  10. Imma place my vote for Vasher, because Mistborn's already in the top three, and it'd be cool to see Stormlight, Warbreaker, and Mistborn all in the top three. (Though in other circumstances I'd say Kelsier. But I'm voting for Vasher.)
  11. ...I forgot. AGAIN. (Though in my defense, my computer science class, though I love it, has been killing me recently... I should make a program to remind me about this.)
  12. I agree that Wayne would end up winning - though Dalinar's a far superior swordsman, Wayne's combo of abilities would probably confuse Dalinar just enough for Wayne to win.
  13. Okay, I like this 10 random facts thing too much not to do one of my own (and nothing too spoilery, I think): 1. The Galaxy of Athesia is a ring galaxy formed from two galaxies colliding with each other. The collision occurred as a part of a war a couple millennia ago. 2. Many planets, both inhabited or uninhabited, are connected to a vast network that allows travel between worlds. The access to these planets is in the form of a spherical gate, known as a Planet Gate. 3. The human race began on a planet called Syranda, and from there, spread to many other planets via these gates, including Earth and another called Sudir. 4. Sudir was also inhabited by some exiles of the aggressors in the aforementioned war. This has led to interesting developments in human civilization on that planet. 5. Earth's continents each have at least one Planet Gate. There's one in Wales, Jerusalem, on the northern island of Japan, somewhere in Mexico, and one on the South Pole. 6. For the most part, Planet Gates have been forgotten, but FTL travel has allowed many races to communicate with each other. 7. The most common race in Athesia is known as the Jij. 8. The aforementioned war was called the Embodiment War. It literally broke the universe. Into 273 distinct pieces. 9. Death used to be a pretty nice guy. He'd buy you ice cream right before harvesting your spirit. Now he just shows up, swipes up your consciousness with his scythe, growls at you, then brings you to the underworld. 10. Death is currently fighting a civil war. It's him versus all the souls he's ever harvested. It is also considered one of the most imbalanced wars of all time, in Death's favor, for very obvious reasons. ...okay, so maybe there was some spoiler-y content here, but I never specified which story this was for, and it's going to be about... what, 10 years before I actually get around to talking about any of these parts? Maybe?
  14. Well, would you look at that. I actually got around to doing Cosmere fan art. Not the best fan art, mind you, but still fan art. I drew it in less than five minutes, just wanting to get my practice in for the day.
  15. I'm actually trying to have a social life, so I'll plan on going. Also, what's Cards against the Cosmere?
  16. I read this just as I was leaving my art class, doing my very first charcoal drawing. Naturally, I laughed.
  17. I agree with this consensus - I think I'll do something fiery, with warm colors, for zinc - probably a glow of red towards the center (to represent the fact that it pulls), and an aura on the edge of the brass picture with cool colors. After I do copper, which will probably be static to counter the radar motif. Thanks for all the suggestions!
  18. Finally, I found the place to share what I learned at the signing. I got three questions answered, though I'm not sure how useful they are in the grand scheme of things: 1) (More for the fun of it) Q: If you steelpush/ironpull on a computer's hard drive, what would happen? A: It would screw it up. 2) Aside from Demoux and Aslydin, are there any couples travelling throughout the cosmere? And if so, do they have any children that also worldhop? A: Yes. 3) Could Aluminum act as a sort of shield from other forms of investiture? As in, could an aluminum misting lashed to something burn aluminum and dispel the stormlight? A: RAFO (called it before I asked, but I just had to ask). And then I was lucky enough to find a signed copy of the tenth anniversary Elantris the next day in the Bookstore.
  19. Uy, I've been very slow at getting these up... so here's the only one I've been able to do recently. I decided to go for the Radar Motif. I'll need to get back to working on these - Brandon said last night at the signing that doing fan art really can pay off!
  20. I enjoy all the implications in the final scene as well as the Ars Arcanum.
  21. I must admit, I hadn't considered that. So, I think the following questions (mostly formulated to lower the risk of RAFO) should be answered to help us figure out if this wild speculation is true or not: 1) Have any worldhoppers had children away from their home planet? 2) Does Nazh have a form of investiture that we've seen before or one that we've never heard of yet? 3) Do Demoux and Aslydin have any children? (Pretty sure that'd get RAFO'd on the spot, but still an important question) If so, have we seen them before? (Again, probably going to be RAFO'd) Luckily, I'll be at the Shadows of Self signing at BYU, so maybe I'll shoot off one of these... unless we can think of a more effective one.
  22. So, it's a well-established fact that Nazh is a worldhopper. And for those of us who've read Words of Radiance, we know that he rescued Shallan's trunk - more particularly, some of her drawings - from the bottom of the sea. That brings up a question: how did he do that? My brother, ChullRider, came up with a possible solution - could Nazh be a Feruchemist? This would supply some answers: provided Nazh is a full-blown Feruchemist, not just a Ferring, Nazh would be able to store breath, allowing him to swim deeper, he could draw forth strength, allowing him to resist the water pressure, Feruchemically access some heat to offset the normally frigid waters in that part of Roshar (not to mention the cold that there would be at the bottom), and using his Copperminds would help him in his work with Khriss. Feruchemy provides everything he needs in order to complete those tasks. But then that raises another question - how could Nazh have this investiture if he's not from Scadrial? Now here... here, things get far more speculative. So much so, in fact, that I'd be flabbergasted if ChullRider and I got this right. Remember: Feruchemy is hereditary. So, Nazh would need to have at least one parent with Terris blood in them. Fortunately for us, we know that there's at least one Terriswoman that's been worldhopping, maybe two. But either way, if there is more than one worldhopping Terriswoman, one of them (Aslydin), is Demoux's wife (I assume that they got married because she is Demoux's love interest). So, they're very loyal to each other, and therefore, I imagine that they try to get with each other as often as possible. Perhaps at one point, they ended up on Threnody, and then they decided to take a break, and then Nazrilof was born (like I said, wild speculation to support Nazh being a Feruchemist). Now, there isn't much proof for this, especially if Nazh isn't a Feruchemist. However, there are some similarities between Demoux and Nazrilof: Both of their names come from a real-life person that took one of Brandon's pictures. Both of them are worldhoppers. Demoux and Nazh were on Roshar at around the same time, and that could be because Demoux is being a good father and teaching him about the world(hopping). Additionally, Nazrilof doesn't sound too much like a Threnodian name - to me, it sounds more Scradrian. That would be a more familiar name to both Demoux and Aslydin. That could just be me, however. TL;DR version: So basically, we think that Demoux, who married the Terriswoman, game birth to Nazh, who has feruchemical abilities, and because of how genetics work with feruchemy and allomancy, Nazh (only got cadmium feruchemy, maybe) or Nazh is a full Feruchemist. Because, Demoux and his wife are worldhoppers, this explains why Nazh is a man from Threnody. By his name thing I mean that his parents, not from Threnody, would have chosen a more familiar name to them. See, because Demoux appeared in WoK, it means that he somehow survived long enough to make it there. And Nazh, being younger, has absolutely no problem getting to AoL time and WoK time. Like I said, there's a lot of speculation here, but it also makes some sense. Or at least, it did over the Facebook chat.
  23. Just so you all know... you can already preorder Shadows of Self from the Bookstore. My aunt and I have already done it. And I'm still uber excited.
  24. If my job schedule stays the same, I might be able to pull over a friend or two over.
  25. Though I would love to see a Memeborn trilogy, and though Lightsong from Memebreaker would be a treasure trove for you, I think that Memelantris could use a little more love. (No, I didn't spend a lot of time thinking about Cosmeme names. Of course not. )
