  1. I do think your worry is very valid, the weakest point of SA so far is that the characters just brush over things. Some people do care less about strong situations even in real life, but I feel Brandon should at least give us an proper explanation to WHY people like Shallan and Dalinar are ignoring things. Shallan is a bit adressed in the sense that she is ignoring things to stay functional, but if she is to evolve she has to face it. But Dalinar utterly ignoring that Szeth killed his brother and murdered a lot of people is something that I can't get over.
  2. When she appeared I was very sure it was her. I usually try to not thinking to much beyond the story contained in the very book I'm reading, but I kept remembering Brandon saying to look out for Vivenna, and once you focus on finding the girl, it is pretty easy to spot.
  3. Not sure how useful getting a RAFO is(besides getting a VERY cool card.), but I got my leatherbound well of ascension copy last week:
  4. I feel that this could be refreshing. I like faces of Brandon that are not cosmere and I definitely don't want him to burn out of cosmere due to too much of it. I've seen the massive Dresden files slump from Jim Butcher and at this point I think the cosmere is a series, not a collection of series. Regarding the order of the cosmere stuff that is coming out, this one would work just fine if he could squeeze some Sel/new world between Wax/Wayne and Stormlight. I'm kind of craving for a different cosmere setting.
  5. My favorites were probably the avalanches in words of radiance and warbreaker. I didn't like some of the povs, felt something disconnected, and not in the cinema fast scenes quality that the avalanches have. I didn't like Szeths part in it, I was annoyed in general by him being there. Guess I don't fully understand his motivation regarding Dalinar. Also found Kaladin with Amaran very awkward although the ending with Rock was satisfying. I loved the beginning of the Renarin part but felt something less epic with Adolin, which I prefer to feel outside the battle in the avalanches. That said I loved Dalinar there, likely the most epic, interesting POV from an ending yet. Jasnah was also a god. I guess that results in a more uncontrollable, wild avalanche, with some loose knoots. This one wasn't necessarily bad or too much, but not for my taste.
  6. I think that he was actually a savior in part one, it's just that he was a low-key one. His scene announcing that the KR returned in hearthstone was amazing in that it gave people hope. It also reinforced his sense of responsability in being part of the Knights, which, even if he doesn't need, has a purpose within his character. The scene where he saved the humans from the highstorm was also a scene with the same vibe. Him being a low-key hero also made a counterpoint with him not being the main char of the book, because people don't get to be THE man all the time and they can still contribute if they are willing, at least I saw it that way, it's up to Kal too see it also. Besides that, I love the way he puts himself in Syl's shoes when she was a prisioner in Shadesmar. Loved that he couldn't speak the 4th oath. He grew immensily on me because I could feel the respect that a crew such as bridge 4 has for him from their perspective. I felt him grumble less about the lighteyes and be an inspiration to Elhokar. I feel Kal's book was a lot more touching because of his minor scenes, and he also gets to kick chull once or twice.
  7. I do think what he is saying is that those traits about Jasnah while teaching will transfer over to how she lead people. She doesn't like to lower the level of her conversations, she grows frustrated when people don't follow her line of thinking well enough. Yes she can learn, but Elhokar could learn also, and he was trying and getting better. Jasnah isn't without compassion, especially within her own agenda, which is her family, she can recognize it in others, but it isn't her strong suit. She would try to make her political decisions and navigations with way more logic than it is possible to do.
  8. My question has oathbringer spoilers, looked at rhe rules, I don't think I can post it even with spoiler tags But the pictures of this edition were amazing! I'll likely buy all of Brandon's work in leatherbound, My go to Christmas present to myself for sure. There were no regrets for me in buying the final empire book, I love to take care of it and I'm always a bit mesmerized buy the pictures and the format itself, which I always make sure to look at randomly and when I clean a bit between pages.
  9. I don't think Lift was given her boon by Cultivation because of what she told Dalinar "This is the first time in centuries I have come to speak with one of you". Unless Cultivation gave Lift a boon without showing herself ou speaking with the girl, which goes against what we know of her interaction with Dalinar.
  10. This topic is making me wonder what kind of interesting things Dalinar might be able to create because he has more of honor than former bondsmiths. Could he create an 10 surge honorblade? Can he create new spren? Can he even create new KR orders? He said to the stormfather himself that they are something new, maybe he can change the system to more than 10 surges(even if it the number for Roshar) or new surge combos? Also isn't there a WoB somewhere that said that the vessel can interpret the meaning of the shard in a different way?
  11. From what I remember, there has to be a place for the spren, or the magic, to fill. It is seeing as being broken because the magic could help fill up your soul again. But what if you are so open minded you can just absorb new ideas without much trouble? Being very little could certainly help Shallan in this case, as children are more prone to ask question and accept different things.
  12. I feel its actually kind of easy to be a squire because all the scout ended being squires without being from bridge 4 previously. I saw it as if you are somewhat in the right direction and you are close to a KR, you end up as a squire. That can also be true to windrunners only because they have the + squires abilty. The process itself is a lot faster than attracting a spren as Vatah was pretty quickly a squire himself. Also, is there a number of ideals required to make squires? Because the scouts were squires just after bridge 4, and Kals + bridge 4 bond is way deeper. Not sure about the trust of the radiant part. Kaladin doesn't go around trusting everyone and we don't know about Teft and bridge 13 either.
  13. I actually like that odium showed up so heavily in this book including his commanding of troops. I felt he had too much mystery actually. He is still very mysterious, we don't know anything about the guy. His progress from the illusion(which was one incredible opening) from physical commanding was smooth for me. I loved the vibe and the smack in the face he received from Dalinar, which resulted in his retreat.
  14. It is somewhat offtopic but I just wanted to say that your post is part of the reason this community is pretty amazing to post or lurk. You quoted a post that was just being mean, trashing Shallan with not many arguments and with all the patience in the world you pointed everything wrong with that without being mean yourself.
  15. I found Dalinar's story very interesting, so much happened around him. The flashbacks were the strongest from the series so far. It was a very nicely transition from a very brutal character from seeing that he wasn't just brutal to him opening his eyes and his depression. I particularly liked evi in general and the scene with Jasnah, where he listened to tWoK for the first time. His present arc was also super good with the waow moment in the book being AMAZING. I loved the perpendicularity's creation and that although he had and absurd power boost he is still mostly Dalinar, not something that I expect anymore with this amount of power. I just hope he isn't Dalinar still because Kal ends up ascending somewhere along the line. Kal's storyline was also superb but because of very different reasons. His inner struggles, which are not all solved, really shone for me. He has to understand you have to be more of a teamplayer and not expect himself to save the day everytime. I didn't like the way that the love triangle went but not because he didn't end with Shallan, but because I think the development was bad, but I just didn't let the romance get in the way of a VERY nice story. Kal's Odium spren was also super interesting, was hoping to see more. I loved hearthstone overall and his moral dilemma. I also loved that Kal is the char from which we get to meet Vivenna again, couldn't have hoped for a better choice. Shallan for me was still good but the weakest of characters blaming a lot on her other personalities, which for me made for a lesser read. Even so, she had some absolutely delightful moments with hoid and the multiple personalities wasn't all bad, presenting some interesting scenes. Her part I with Adolin was solid and the unmade made for some real badass moment.
