  1. Hmm, reading this sparked a thought. "Odium states that 'we killed you' right..." We??? Did Odium have help to kill Honor from another Shard? Or... could he be meaning 'we killed Adonalsium'? Together those that became the shards splintered Adonalsium, 'killing' him. Could Dalinar represent something even greater than a single shard? Could "Unity" be a force that will seek to bring the shards back together? "Unite Them!" takes on a new meaning when it means the Shards of Adonalsium.
  2. NM, as I searched further I see some discussions on using Nightblood and Shardblades as spikes.
  3. In my musings I wondered what the advantages of having an awakened spike to use for Hemalurgy might be? Basically like using Nightblood to spike someone maybe...
  4. A lot of the books here are dear to my heart and I agree wholheartedly. I am an older gentleman these days and remember an excellent series and author from my days of yore that I don't hear here often enough. That Author is Roger Zelazny and the book series is the Chronicles of Amber. The story of the Kingdom of Amber and the Courts of Chaos and the Pattern are masterfully done. Corwin FTW!
  5. Has anyone read Unfettered II yet? Are you going to start a board where this can be discussed? I am waiting on the Audible version.
  6. The Heralds arrival signals a desolation. The period that the Heralds leave from Roshar following a Desolation results in a time of relative peace. When they are gone they apparently pay some kind of penance on Braize (Hell), are tortured. The time of the penance seems somewhat proportional to how many go to Braize, the more who go the less time they have to suffer while there. As if the penance were split amongst them. When their Penance is done they are allowed back on Roshar but again their presence signals yet another Desolation, and the cycle repeats. Thus when all the Heralds went to Braize the period between Desolations was shorter. Now that only Taln went to Braize this last time, he had to bear the ENTIRE penance of the Heralds which took A LOT longer than previously because only one man bore the brunt of that penance. As a result the peace on Roshar has been much longer than normal and some thought permanent. This is not so though as we know Taln has finally been freed of his Penance and as soon as he returns to Roshar a massive Desolation begins to percolate. Because of this massive penance he bore alone he has turned mad, his mind broken. Now, if the KR learned of this decision of the Heralds other than Taln to refrain from returning to Braize then that might be considered a betrayal, "why follow dishonorable leaders that would sacrifice one of their own out of perceived weakness". To top that off if they learned of the Oathpact and wondered why Honor would agree to such a thing could be considered another betrayal. Just some ponderings on possible motivations.
  7. Thank you for the welcome. I think that the Ire would have more than one iron in the fire so to speak and this may be just one path to gain power. Not specifically related to gaining a Shard, but power in general (ala Hoid). The lack of a Shard here might be why it makes more sense for them to use an FTL method to reach this world rather than world-hopping. Do perpendicularities exist there to allow easy travel from the cognitive realm? My ignorance on the 6th of the Dusk realm doesn't help my argument here, I know, just that they feel similar to the Ire.
  8. I have not gotten to Sixth of the Dusk yet, I am still on The Secret History and that is quite revealing as it is. My question is if there are any physical descriptions of the Ones Above? Because the people described in this sound like they could be the Ire. The Ire had a device that could locate Threnodites supposedly, they were interested in Possessing a Shard for their own, and they utilize power lines of some sort (the lines that glowed with power). Is it possible that the Ones Above = Ire?
  9. But the other names more or less refer to the Magic system of that realm where in this case you are trying to tie the name to an environmental effect. Seems like two different things to me. I need to read White Sands though to get my knowledge up to par on that realm.
  10. As I compare the two images of the AU Starmap and the Shadesmar map I come to a slightly different conclusion. Expanse of Vapors = Scadrial, Expanse of Vibrance = Nalthis, then I see the Expanse of Densities as Taldain (being the World of White Sands, it's magic system is based on investiture into the sand itself right?). That leaves the Expanse of the Broken Sky and I would like to posit that maybe this points to the Scar. Nobody seems to have touched on it yet. Does it appear as a tear in the night sky from the physical realm of Roshar? Anyway, just my casual thoughts.
  11. Just a little input but could the cursed stone come from the Recreance and the fact that when the Radiants abandoned their duty they pierced the stones with their blades as they left them behind. Didn't the Heralds embed their blades into stone as well when the abandoned the Oathpact at the beginning of WoK?
  12. While I do see where it could be anticlimactic for Tien to be alive, humor me a moment. As witnessed in this thread, Tien has displayed some attributes that could definitely be seen as proto-radiant. Now he was placed into Amaram's army and Amaram is of the group, Sons of Honor. What if Amaram became aware of Tien's abilities and approached him on behalf of the Son's and recruited him. Then he could have faked his death for a perceived "Greater Good" on orders from Amaram. It just stands out to me what kind of influence Tien has on Kal. Kal exhibits serious signs of being manic depressed at times and Tien breaks these moods each time and easily, almost magically. I can't give up on him yet.
