  1. I'm not exactly sure when it happened, but Brandon is now a Bondsmith at 3283. At some point between 3136 and 3283, you turn from a Voidbringer into a Bondsmith If I'm not mistaken though, isn't a Surgebinder already a rank between 1300 and 1336, and isn't a Bondsmith just a type of Surgebinder? So how does that work? If this makes sense to you, could you explain? I'm confused...
  2. I have a question about Shardplate. If you break a piece of Shardplate, you can 'regrow' it using the remaining pieces of Shardplate. First of all, how does this work. I don't think it works naturally, because Dalinar said somewhere in the books that it would take longer to regrow Shardplate if the Parshendi also tried to regrow it, meaning there is some sort of physical process involved. And my other question is, what would happen if every single piece of Shardplate was systematically destroyed? Because the process requires the other pieces of shardplate, so would that be the end of the Shardplate, fullstop? If there is a WoB I'm missing, please quote it. Thanks
  3. You're probably right. Oh well. (Unless of course, this is true, in which case I knew it all along...)
  4. All legendary's, knowing his sense of grandeur. Or, since he's a lightweaver, maybe a Zorua or Zoroark. Yep, you guessed it. I am the prime example of a 'nerd'.
  5. I personally, as a dedicated Whovian, would love to see a return of the Valeyard. The Valeyard has been unresolved since Colin Baker's era (The Trial of a Time Lord, to be precise), and it has been grating away at my OCD since I've watched it. Mind you, it might be difficult to fit in to the modern plot line, as technically Peter Capaldi is the 14th Doctor. However, Moffat can work miracles (sometimes), and there are some ways around it. EDIT: Fixed typos
  6. Switching topic completely, I'd just like to point something out. All the way back on Page 1, Chaos said there were 102 positive levels in the new reputation system. However, in the current system, there are only 82. Does this seriously mean there are 20 new levels yet to be discovered? If so, any speculation on what they might be? The only thing I can think of is all of the known shards, (as of today, that's 10), and then Adonalsium. Apart from that, I have no idea. And also, how would you judge one Shard above another? My only guess is that the splintered shards would be at the bottom, then the whole Shards, then Odium (it does say he is the strongest single shard somewhere), and then Harmony. Any ideas?
  7. Okay, I don't understand most of what is being said here, so I am going to put out a few theories based on my theory of the Julia Set and Roshar. Feel free to poke holes in these theories later. Okay. So you have probably all watched the Julia Set Wikipedia video dozens of times by now, at least if you're anything like me. But I wanted to find out when certain events took place, and what the world looked like at the time. So I downloaded the video and looked at it frame by frame, then compared it to the Silver Epochs and modern day Roshar map. The two maps look virtually identical, which could mean one of two things. Either the land has not changed at all, in which case timelining Roshar through the video becomes virtually useless, or: the Silver Epochs map came from just before the middle of the Julia Set video, and the modern day Roshar video came from just after the middle of the video. If the two maps which look virtually identical came from either side of the video, then this is great news. It means we can timeline the birth and death of Roshar, and find out what Roshar looked like during certain events. So the numbers for the frame count is: Beginning of Video (Beginning of Roshar) : Frame 1 Silver Kindoms Era : Frame 70 Modern Roshar Map : Frame 78 End of video (End of Roshar) : Frame 153 Because we don't know exactly when the Silver kingdoms were around, apart from 'sometime when the Knights Radiant existed', and because I couldn't bee bothered doing any hard math, I estimated that the Silver Kingdoms Era was 4,000 years before present day Roshar. In other words, 500 years per frame. If this is true, then we can roughly timeline various events in Roshar's history. The birth of Roshar (Frame 1 of the video) is 39,000 years before present day Roshar. The death of Roshar (Frame 153 of video) is 37,500 years after present day Roshar. That doesn't sound very mind blowing until you think about the entire life-span of a continent being less than 80,000 years. If this is true, then there is something seriously wrong with that continent (or how it ends). If this makes absolutely no sense to you, I'll edit it sometime when I'm more in my right mind. Once again, this is all speculation, not confimed fact. LATER Do you think Brandon Sanderson just picked that picture because it looked cool? Could we be over-thinking this? "Emily, those silly 17th Sharders are over-thinking everything again!" "Just RAFO it. They'll all end up with a psychologist if you keep it up long enough."
  8. There is a quote proving there is a third realm in early WoR besides Shadesmar and the Physical Realm, when Jasnah is talking to Shallan. If the physical world is the world of 'the body', and Shadesmar is the world of 'the mind', then the Spiritual Realm is the place of 'the soul'. Maybe this is why Shardblades do no physical damage to the body, but instead sever the soul from the body. Maybe this is why you can heal from a Shardblade wound if you can suck in stormlight. WoR spoiler & Warbreaker spoiler:
  9. The Tranquiline Halls are the place in mythology that humans were cast out of, to be sent to Roshar by the Voidbringers. According to Vorin mythology, the Voidbringers aimed to cast mankind into Damnation (Braize, one of the other two worlds in the Greater Roshar system), except humans went to Roshar instead. Now the Voidbringers are trying to 'finish the job'. Ashyn is the other world in the greater Roshar system, besides Roshar and Braize. It stands to reason that is Damnation is real, then the Tranquiline Halls would be real too. And where would it be if it weren't for Ashyn. Ashyn does sound like a place the Tranquiline Halls would be. The magic system in the Silence Divine (set on Ashyn) is one where people with disabilities get powers. If any place could be considered a 'perfect' place, it would be there. Also, it is known that Cultivation and Honor moved to Roshar from somewhere else. Is it possible that they moved to Roshar from Ashyn when humans were 'cast out'. Once again, this is all speculation, and not confirmed.
  10. I'm not sure, but I don't think it was Spooks book. I believed it was Ironeyes/Marsh's book, which he gave to Marasi to give to Wax at the end of AoL. It WoB or the book said otherwise, please find the quote and post it. It might be possible, however, that the book hinted it was Spooks, even though it was not, such as when Alendi's diary was believed to have been the Lord Ruler's diary, or Sazed's diary was thought to be Vin's diary.
  11. I think there might be a shorter name that we discover later, as 'First of the Sun' seems a bit long winded for a planet. I am guessing that there is some sort of hierarchy in this story, and someone who is the 'First of the Sun' is leader. The main character I think would be the sixth in rank, or the 'Sixth of the Dusk'. And the First of the Sun named the planet after his title because he is extremely egotistical. Please note, this is just a theory, and none of it is confirmed.
  12. But if Marasi was correct in saying that Steris wasn't an Allomancer, than there would be no reason why they would kidnap her, as a spike from Steris wouldn't do anything. And also, if you were to were using the hostages as hemalurgic victims, you wouldn't only kidnap women.
  13. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that only works if the equal sign is redefined as 'is associated with'. If you say 1+2+3... 'is equal to' -1/12, then you are wrong. And that is why it is so confusing, because the people who originally said that 1+2+3...=-1/12 used the less common interpretation of '=', thoroughly confusing everybody. Going back on topic however, I do agree that 16 is a nice number to work with. Lots of numbers divide from it, and it is a power of 2, while at the same time is not exceptionally large and difficult to use. 10 is a far more interesting number. It is a far less easy to divide with. However, because we use a base ten decimal system, it is easy to have larger numbers to divide into 10. E.g. 10 groups of x, or x groups of 10. That is why I think Brandon chose it.
  14. There doesn't seem to be a speculation page for the next mistborn novel, Shadows of Self. So I've decided to start one. First of all, many of my theories are based of the content already released. If you have not read the first 2 chapters of Shadows of Self, then read it here. OK, so it seems fairly obvious that this novel focuses on Wax, Wayne & Marasi vs. 'The Set', a group led by Wax's uncle. However, everything from here is pure speculation, but here goes. The aim of the 'Vanishers' stealing the goods was to financially cripple House Tekiel, which means that they would have probably been able to prevent the something they are trying to achieve from occuring. Then, there are the kidnappings. This is probably part of the scheme, and due to the fact that they are all part of the same Allomantic bloodline, and that they are all women, it seems likely that they are planning to 'breed' Allomancers. This means that it would be a very long term plan. I have a hunch that the climax of the book will be the wedding. The way that the wedding seems to be at the forefront of things despite super-evil uncles trying to take control of the world just makes me think that. I also have a hunch that there is a secret about Steris. The way Marasi said so confidently that Steris wasn't an Allomancer makes me think that there is a story behind it, which might come out in this novel. However, she still might be a Ferring. Now we come to Miles's last words, talking about people of 'red and gold' coming bearing 'the final metal'. What the 'red and gold' means, I can't begin to guess, but 'the final metal' makes me think that there may be one more metal Brandon has kept close to his chest. And finally, Bloody Tam's re-emergence. I have a feeling that he is a Seer (Atium Misting) who has found some Atium somehow, (remember, when Kelsier destroyed the Pits of Hathsin, it was meant to stop Atium growing for 300 years, which is the amount of time that has passed since The Final Empire, so perhaps the mines might be in the new world) and is working for the Set in exchange for... something. They're all the theories that I have. Feel free to post any of your own.
  15. I think there is a huge difference between a lack of luck and bad luck. A lack of luck is when nothing particularly 'lucky' happens, such as not winning the lottery. However, bad luck is when something particularly horrible happens, such as breaking your arm. If you store up luck, then you increase your chance of something bad happening, and decrease the chance of something good happening, and the opposite would happen when using luck. So, using PorridgeBrick's example of locking yourself in a cage when storing luck, you would have an increased chance of dropping the key where you couldn't reach it. However, if you were to start spending luck instead, then someone would probably come and let you out of the cage. That is my interpretation.
