  1. Hey all, Long time lurker, first time (I think?) poster! Was discussing Oathbringer today at lunch with a friend who is reading SA - I didn't spoil Oathbringer for him, I swear! - and I came to a realization. We know that Kaladin's realization which lead him to the Third Ideal was that "The King was Dalinar's Tien"... meaning Elhokar. But I thought of another interpretation for that... and my apologies if someone has already pointed this out... Tien's death seems to be the point that broke Kaladin enough to start him on the path to Radianthood. I would be willing to argue that Gavilar's death was the same for Dalinar... so while, in the present, Elhokar is Dalinar's Tien, what started Dalinar on the steps to Radianthood was actually Gavilar's death... making BOTH kings Dalinar's Tien. Dalinar was already interacting with a spren in The Way of Kings when he started getting the visions... and Syl commented to Kal in OB that she had vague memories of someone associated with Kal who had to be Tien, meaning she was vaguely aware of Kal before Tien's death... but while Kal was good with a spear before Tien's death, it was only after Tien's death that strange things started happening around him. I just wanted to get this thought down. I may come back and clean it up, but I would be happy to hear opinions!
  2. So, I'm not exactly certain what you guys want here. I'm a huge Wheel of Time fan, and I migrated over to Brandon once he picked up the baton from Harriet and carried it to the finish line. I've met Brandon at least 5 times at various signings, I've been to JordanCon once (just haven't had the time to be able to return, darn work), and my handle comes from the fact that at the signing for The Gathering Storm here in the NoVA area, I misquoted Robert Jordan to Brandon and set the Theoryland folk on their heads because of the conflicting signing reports. I have brought Brandon M:tG cards at every signing in tribute to that mistake. If you were at the signing on Thursday in Tyson's Corner, I was the guy in the third row of seats during the Q&A to whom Brandon said hello. I was wearing a Theoryland tee-shirt. Outside of my interest in fandom (though I don't typically theorize much), I am a restaurant manager for one unit in a nation wide chain (we only have 66 restaurants currently, not a big chain). Other than that, I play D&D with my roommates and friends about once a month and I love to read. I have discovered that I now need to go back in time and read Elantris and Warbreaker. It's always good to meet a community of like-minded individuals, and I hope I can join in on some of the conversations once I get myself going!
  3. Green Fire... the line went until 11:40... I got up to get 3 more books signed after the last person in Group F. He had left after the reading and gone upstairs to watch "Divergent" in the theater. The last three of us were walking out of B&N at midnight.
  4. I just wanted to tag on here... I'm the one who was wearing the TheoryLand shirt in the third row of seats from the Q&A session. Brown hair, red beard. I'm also the guy who asked about Odium on Roshar. In one of my copies of WoR, I asked Brandon to write something about Renarin, since I really like the character. He wrote "There is something very odd about Renarin's Spren", and he did a drawing of Renarin in ShardPlate in my other book. I can't wait for the next book... Stones Unhallowed (or whatever he decides to call it now that Pat Rothfuss is coming out with a book with "Stones" in the title).
