  1. Actually, Nalthis was planned fro AU1, but there was not a short story with which to pair it, and not enough time fro Brandon to craft a story for it before his deadline. It was left out and published separately on the website and in the Warbreaker Anniversary Leatherbound (but we are still waiting for Khriss' essay:)

  2. Forts Board makes a good point and there is a question about how many side kicks. Moana has Pua and Heihei. Luke has R2 and C3PO. Harry has Hedwig and Buckbeak. Spin has a slug and a spaceship. Let me offer this other point in defense of 5th ideal (Stead). Brandon excels at world building. His works stands apart in the genre for the vibrancy and uniqueness of the ecology. Not since Tolkien, have the plants and animals been such a part of the story. I have this theory that there is an impending ecological catastrophe on Roshar. There are hints at this, Ashyn, visions, the very destructive nature of the storms. If the radiants journey ended back at connecting to the natural world it would be a pleasing convergence of themes.

  4. Mafia Championships Hoid studied the gameboard set in front of him. It was an exact replica of the Cosmere as a whole and it glowed with tiny sparkling dots. Each one represented a possible Champion; for there was a challenge from beyond the Cosmere taking place. Luckily, this was an area where Hoid excelled. He was a master tactician and he knew that, once he’d made the choice, his Champion would be more than capable of handling anything that these outsiders threw at them. Through the gnashing of teeth and brain-melting puzzles, his Champion would endure. But first, he needed to choose…. ************************************* Hey everyone. We’ve got an announcement to make. We were contacted a while back by someone running what they are calling their Mafia Championship. They gather representatives from multiple different forums that play Mafia and those players then play in a tournament of Mafia games to determine who is the ultimate Mafia player. They are now into their third season of doing so and last year, they had around 70 different communities send a representative to their games. They even have the backing of the man who created Mafia (Dmitry Davidoff)! This year, they’re hoping to have up to around 130 different Mafia communities represented! And we’ll be able to kill them all! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!! There was just one thing missing. They obviously could not have a true Mafia Championship while we were not represented! That’s like deciding the greatest author ever and ignoring Sanderson! So it comes to this: we need to pick a representative to be our Champion in these games. Here’s the breakdown of what our Champion can expect: - There will be at most three games. The first is a qualifier game, where our Champion will play against other candidates. At the end of that game, the players will vote for two people who they think should move on to the final. There is also a wildcard game (should our Champion for some bizarre reason not be chosen to go the final) to round out the final. Then, of course, there is the final itself. Here's a link to the final game from last season. - The games will begin at the end of April and the final will likely take place around the end of July. Yes, this is a long time to be available for. We have it on good authority that they will do their best to accommodate everyone’s schedules, so that everyone will be able to play during a time that is convenient for them. - Our Champion should expect a very active game of Mafia. There is a minimum posting limit of at least 10 posts per day and there can easily be hundreds of posts made in a single day’s turn. Granted, most of these won’t be the essays that some people write here, but they should still expect quite a lot. - The format is something they call a Matrix12. What this is, is basically a table of multiple roles that could be added to the game. A column or row is then chosen at random and that determines which roles are in the game. They still used a lot less roles than we are typically used to in our games though, so this should be a cinch for us. Here’s a link to what they are thinking for this season. And I think that about covers it. If you’re interested in volunteering to be our Champion, please say so here. We’ll give it a couple of days for people to step forward and make nominations, then we’ll make a poll with the given representatives listed. At that point, everyone can vote for whom they think we should send as our Champion. A quick note: this is not about us trying to send our best player. What we really want is someone that truly represents the nature of our community. These games tend to give players from other sites a chance to interact together and many times, some players will come join games on other forums, so we want someone that represents our Gentlemanly Killers nature above and beyond just being good at the game. We’re all pretty exceptional at that part; to the point where we would have no problem sending any one of you to represent us on that issue. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I’ve been looking over their site and I’ve read some of the previous games, so I have a pretty decent understanding of what we’ll be getting into. Also, feel free to follow the links to do some of your own research! In fact, here's one final link to some general information about this season's games! Now then, who wishes to be our Sword at the throats at of all the other Mafia forums out there? Let’s show them how it’s done!

  5. Let's address the Kandra/Mistwraith in the room. First off, Realmatically it is totally possible for Kandra to gain Allomancy and Feruchemy. Paalm indisputably proved that as both a Coinshot and a Steelrunner. Top theory that Kelsier is really more of a Kandra means that this is still either more complicated than what he has solved, involves measures he's not willing to take (maybe needs second spike opening him up to Shardic interference), or his specific circumstance still disqualifies him (like if you need to rip out a spike and use a Trellium spike, and he can't do it because his current spike hold his consciousness or something). Next, this quote: This is Wax and VenDell speculating at the beginning of BoM before they've even seen an unkeyed Metalmind, let alone an unsealed one. Neither has produced empirical evidence to this point. Notably the assertion that this has to do with shared Terris heritage with the rationale that the Elendel Basin intermarried after the Catacendre doesn't explain how all of Southern Scadrial uses this technology. We know hardly anything about the Southern Scadrians other than that metalborn are incredibly rare and considered pieces of god, so... do they even have any Terris ancestry whatsoever? I'll also note that the Weight medallions in BoM worked for everyone - including MeLaan. If the Bands of Mourning don't work for Kelsier, it's probably not because he's a Kandra/Mistwraith. Medallion tech works for non-Scadrians as well. Just forget everything about them requiring Terris blood. WoB Beyond that for the creation of the Bands, there's too many unknowns. We don't know what the excisors are, how Medallion's are made at all, let alone all the constraints that would have to be met in order to produce the Bands. I'm still waiting on an explanation on the Medallions which won't come until Era 3 because Brandon lost his original writeup. It's complicated enough that it took several pages, so I don't think we'll get it just by guessing. If it's that complicated for Medallions and they have no idea how to make the Bands, then goooood luck.

  6. It should work, but it would have significant downsides. You'd need to preserve he reattached body part with Ichor, so it would not be compatible with your own circulatory system. So it would literally just be a fleshwad strapped on and slowly rotting, and you couldnt carve yourself back to a brain in a Lifeless flesh-jar because you'd need to maintain all the critical support organs so it wouldnt become as useful as the Kandra-state. In all ways this sounds like it's inferior to both your actual limbs and to just awakening cloth to augment your limbs as we often see.

  7. I think it's possible, but why would you do that? It would be always an inferior version of your hand. That's impossible. Your body doesn't do that, Lifeless doesn't do that. The more damaged the flesh is, the weaker and harder it is for Lifeless to act, the more Breaths you need to sustain that Lifeless. But you won't have flesh like Kandra has, the human body is not the same, Lifeless won't allow for skin pockets or blades under your fingers or something. Well, if you were to use a cut off body part of a Kandra/Mistwraith, then maybe you could do that, then maybe you would be able to do that with a proper Command. But it might be really hard to combine a Lifeless Kandra hand with your body. That's more possible.

  8. We don't know yet. What we do know is that they are more alive than metalminds, they have an identity of their own. I think that you don't tap the nicrosil portion of a medallion, because it's a little alive and has its own identity, it connects itself to you and through that connection it grants you powers stored in nicrosil. SA spoilers:

  9. Yes. Yes, because there would be no Preservation or Ruin anymore. There are some pairs of Shards that are just hard to combine and would push against their Vessel like what Sazed is experiencing, but others would be easier to combine. Ultimately we have only Sazed as an example of merged Shards and this is just my understanding of what's going on. But the fact that before the Shattering there were no Shards, there was just Adonalsium and all investiture was of Adonalsium points into this conclusion that Sazed should be fully united one Shard, with one power. No Ruin and Preservation should exist if he were able to properly merge those Shards. They are particularly difficult to merge, they are the most polarized Shards there are right now, so it's not truly his fault that he can't fully combine them. He was faced with an impossible task and managed to do something that was never done before. But in my opinion he is only halfway there.

  10. Thank you, that's great to know (though like with everything Cosmere hard to sit still and wait for ) From what they said it sounds like they'll focus on a new or updated Constellation map rather than the Star Charts or am I likely misunderstanding that? Also I had slight hopes, that we might get them before AU2 since we got the Nalthian one already, which from what I could gather was originally planned for AU2 as well. It would be extra nice since we'd also get symbols/icons for those new worlds as well. But all in due time I hope

  11. Okay, I'm closing the poll. @DrakeMarshall will be our rep for champs this year! It is customary for us to send our representative off with whatever tokens we've come across during our games. I will lend you the slain heart of the Awakened House on the Hill, as a reminder that no evil is too great to overcome* *If you have a Shardblade, which hopefully someone else will lend you

  12. Please see these many Adolin Maya theory threads: Why Maya is healing Deadeye Spren Maya and Adolin's Bond Edgedancer Stoneward WoB: Many have speculated that whatever might be happening there, it could be some new kind of reverse bond - Where in a Normal Nahel Bond, the spren is filling cracks in teh Radiant's Soul - but in RoW Adolin seems to be filling cracks in Maya's soul. . .

  13. The Nicrosil is what makes an Unkeyed Metalmind Unsealed so that anybody can access it (Coppermind) because the Nicrosil is storing the ability to use F-Iron, so you tap that to have the ability to use Iron, then tap or store Iron (in that instance). So, it is like a Coppermind - while tapping you are accessing the stored Manifestation of Investiture. What we do not yet know is how a normal Soulbearer is different, because he has confirmed they are not quitethe same: Hope that helps

  14. Unlikely, Sanderson has said there are some shards with complimentary Intents that would be much easier to merge/work together. WoB:

  15. So if im understanding you correctly you are saying that the contradiction does exist, but Harmony exists that way anyways, which is why hes having such a bad time? I think that just made it click. He should not work this way but he does and that is the issue. I think we are in agreement that if preservation and ruin were properly joined that the resulting god metal would not produce lerasium and atium in a trellium reaction, would not be inherently unstable, there would not be two mists and Harmony would have a pure tone. My disconnect was that I assumed this Harmony situation was an issue specifically because of the opposing Intents, and while it partially is, its really Sazed's failure to combine them properly that has caused the contradiction. As in, this is not the way that a shard combination is supposed to go. Before this I was under the assumption that this was standard as most of the Intents will conflict with each other and cause similar issues.

  17. Hello other disaster gay people, I’m genderfluid and omniflux :))) I’m glad to have found a community here in the shard full of similar people! I hope that I could grow to understand my identity even more. For the longest time I didn’t know anything about this stuff. I grew up oblivious to it. But things changed once I got older. I remember just going through so many different labels as I was learning more about myself. I had plenty of time to figure it out and start during Covid. it takes a long time to figure out and see what works for you. I eventually settled on genderfluid because it described what I had felt undue for so long. Sexuality took a bit longer. Try things out is my advice, see if you like guys, girls and anyone in general. Look inside and find out. I wish you all the luck! It’s hard but I believe you’ll find out.

  18. First page of the Postscript, page 383, paragraph 1, sentence 4. "The experience was so much fun that I wanteßd to try something again..." "Latin small letter sharp s" (eszett) is used instead of an apostrophe. I'm not sure if this is a printing error exclusive to this specific copy, or if it's included in other books. I left the little publishing info page, in case anyone wanted to check. This is a library copy. Photos:

  19. Not an expert in Cosmere/Connection stuff by any means, but something in RoW sparked curiosity: In my opinion, Adolin is personally suited to Stonewards (team dynamics, being there for those who need them) and not so much Edgedancers (being there for the common folk). If Maya did not exist, he may have attracted a peakspren already? Also, I was just reading RoW for the second time and stumbled upon these 3 Adolin thoughts italicized in Chapter 35 as he fought the Tukari off with Maya alongside him, and Brandon's italicizing seems suspicious to me: 1. Never underestimate the strength of a soldier trained to stand fast. 2. Never underestimate the simple intimidating force of a man who won't back down. 3. Never underestimate the worth of being willing to hold. Your. GROUND. Do these sound suspiciously like Oaths? I have noticed Brandon previously italicizing Oaths. Especially the first one which sounds very similar to what Coppermind thinks will be a Stoneward second Ideal! Has Adolin already sworn his Stoneward Ideals, but no peakspren around obviously, but do you think Maya somehow accepted these (they can sense each other's thoughts/feelings) and What decided that cultuvationspren would be Edgedancer spren and peakspren be Stoneward spren? Could Maya and Adolin be making a cultivationspren Stoneward???

  20. Not an Edgedancer? He took care of a prostitute in WoK, was chatting friendly with common soldiers, put his Shardhelmet on a boy's head, he jokes, makes friendly comments and befriends anyone, no matter their status. He shut himself in a prison cell to accompany Kaladin!!! He attends bar parties and weddings in the Tower, he takes care of Gallant, he takes care of Maya in OB and RoW, treating her like a wounded soldier and as a friend. He is the embodiment of Edgedancer's ideals. He remembers, listens and cares. True, he might fit Stonewards too, a person can fit multiple orders at once. But I doubt he would attract a spren already - or at least I don't want him to become Radiant. No. This also means thoughts and internal comments. RoW ch 21: Oaths are about YOU. I will stand fast, I won't back down, I will hold my ground. "I" is the vital component of your Oaths. Except for the First Ideal and Lightweavers, there is no Oath that wasn't spoken in the first person: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Knights_Radiant/Immortal_Words No. Spren don't accept Words. Stormfather and Cultivation do that. Bond. There is a significant bond forming between Maya and Adolin. He is bringing her back, giving her his strength and even breath. I suspect they are forming a reverse Nahel Bond, where Adolin's soul is the one that fills cracks in Maya's soul, and Maya is the knight, gaining back her mind and body in the process. RoW ch 94: Their nature. Spren, True Spren like Cultuvationspren, are the embodiment of Surges, Progression and Abrasion for Maya. They represent certain ideas and laws of nature, which Ishar formalized in the form of Knights Radiant and Oaths. This combination, of spren being the embodiment of Surges and Ishar's formalization, decided that Cultuvationspren are the Edgedancer spren. The Order of Edgedancers are artificial creation, spren are natural. Orders were made to represent the ideals which spren represent themselves.
