  5. Do (Re) Mi It was early in the mourning that Sarene was greeted with the realisation that her husband was dead. Roial and Eonden had assured her that he had been a good man, yet she felt nothing but bitterness over his death. He was gone, she was alone and all that remained was an empty marriage soldering Teod and Arelon. Fat lot of good the alliance did for her. “You need to snap out of this demeanour, my lady” her seon glowed, “Your father needs you to consolidate the alliance”. “I know Ashe...I just can’t shake the fact that I’m going to be alone again. I kinda liked him Ashe”. “I know my lady, but it won’t do you any good to be despondent, perhaps you should go make yourself busy with the other court ladies. I hear they are gathered in one of the ballrooms”. She sighed and looked at him in annoyance, “And I assume you won’t stop bothering me until I go”. “You know me well my lady”. “Do you have the money?” “Straight to the point, you live up quite masterfully to expectations young master” The Duke grunted and rolled his neck, “You do not take that tone with me, understand heretic scum? I am only doing this because it benefits me” “Why of course, and what of your promises lord?” “All will come in due time, all will come that is due” “So you say, and what of the old man and the swordsman?” “They will cause no problems, I am the first in line- nobody can dispute this” “Heirship is not what concerns me” “Of course it isn’t! Trust fool, I have things handled” “As you wish” Shuden did not ask for this, oh no he did not. They were almost on his lap, the lot of them. All of them. No he did not want this. But he had to admit, a small part of him enjoyed the attention. It wasn’t everyday he got to show off his culture and skill. Even if he claimed to just be an amateur, the ladies were certainly impressed. Ah, there was the young princess. “Sarene!” he called, “Come join us, we’re embarking on a different course of action than the usual embroidery we ladies engage in”. He nearly blushed as the room echoed with light laughter, projecting the voices around him. Sarene cocked an eyebrow and he grinned, “you know you’re interested” he smirked. She walked over and stood amongst the ladies around him. Shuden jumped suddenly, startling a few ladies then landed in a strange stance. He moved gracefully into another form, fist extended and leg drawn back in an arc. “ChayShan, ever seen it?”. “No, I can’t say that I have”. “So you lived up to your name in the end”. Rat looked up and tilted his head in confusion at the newcomer, “Who in Domi’s twelth name are you? And how do you know my name”. Two more people moved out from behind, brandishing clubs. “We’ve been watching you, you’re with Spirit aren’t you” one of the other uttered. “Spirit? No! I’m faithful to mother” Rat exclaimed, “Who are you people??” They looked at each other, the first individual revealed a hoe from within their jacket. They nodded and advanced upon Rat. “No, no, no, you’ve got the wrong man, I swear upon Domi” “Alas we can’t believe you, your death will determine your faith” THUNK The hoe was swung, swung hard. Rat didn’t remember the swing, but it must have been hard. Hard enough that when it hit him he could feel it imbed into his cheekbone. Pain, pain shot through his face as he felt the bone crack and his body fling to the ground. Pain, as a club bashed into the back of his head, his vertebrae rubbed against themselves and dislodged. Pain, as another club hit the other side of his face, shattering his jaw and nearly snapping the bones in his face in half as they too cracked, edging closer to his opposite cheek. It was quick, and it is painful. He could not speak, his jaw hung open and blood filled his mouth. He could not scream, his throat was pierced by a rogue vertebrae. He could not breathe, his nose leaking with spinal fluid from his brain. Yet he lived. “That did not take much” “Brutal, had to be done, had to be done” “We’ll take him to the ganglords, they’ll know if he’s a Spirit or not” Rat got hoed badly. It was nearly midnight when Sign (pronounced Psy-guh-ne) felt the knife in his shoulder. “There seems to be a knife in my shoulder. Huh, someone must have tried to...kill me” He poked the knife and wondered why it didn’t hurt as much as he thought it would. He considered pulling the knife out like Raomb from his books once did but decided it probably wouldn’t be a good idea seeing as the knife wound nearly killed Raomb once he had removed it. “Idos Domi, somebody tried to kill me!” he laughed, “Someone thinks I’m worth being killed!” Giddy with happiness, Sign went to bed. Knife in his shoulder and all. Vote Count: YoungBard(2): Cadmium Compounder, MetaTerminal BR(1): Alvron Sart(3): Mailliw, Devotary, Brightness Straw(2): Drought, Kidpen Sart was lynched! Sart was a Roleless Child of Karata! (Oops) Coop was Attacked but Survived! The Turn ends in Player List

  6. Two bits of evidence: Sazed's remark, "Be warned, the Larsta love oath is binding. They knew no form of divorce in their culture," which is reminiscent of an Honorific oath. Not that Larsta was Tanavast as a transvestite (a Tanavestite?), though, but as Tanavast's girlfriend/wife/w/e. Also this (I'm quotin' the Coppermind as I've not got me own Mistborn copies): "The Larsta left many of the descriptions of Scadrial's pre-ascension plants and animals, such as the Marewill flowers that Sazed uses to model new flora." This strikes me as a little Cultivation-y, if you will. Also "Tanavast" and "Larsta" sort of sound like they could be from the same language. Not that either would necessarily have been averse to marrying people who spoke a different language or whatever, but still.

  7. Ha ha! Okay, so my school has this live stream news thing where they sometimes interview teachers, and today one of the teachers said, "Well, I wanted to be a lawyer, but I realized I was more interested in justice than the law." I can't decide whether she's a failed Skybreaker or a Skybreaker of the Fifth Ideal!

  12. Why oh why is Nightblood named as he is? The color theme from Nalthis suggests a colorful reason. However, waiving the possibility of such an explanation, let's explore names Nalthians might give to other Awakened swords. Dawnphlegm/Dawnseed Morningsnot Dayspit/Daypus Noonpoop (I am so sorry)

  13. I’ve seen a million theories about Nightblood, but a new WoB just gave me a new idea. In essence I think the 5 scholars used a divine breath (with additional breath as well) when they made nightblood. This is why nightblood is weird. Meanwhile, Vivennas sword might just be made by normal breath.

  20. The title explains itself. These are all so far rough drafts of songs you are hearing, recorded directly by my phone from my electric piano, so their quality isn't the greatest and I have a few errors here and there. Hopefully, you will all enjoy it otherwise. (And hopefully, I can successfully upload them.) The song recorded on video, called the "Mistborn Suite", is meant to be a collection of themes for the first Mistborn trilogy overall. Next is a song I made, titled "First Waltz", is based on Vin and Elend dancing together for the first and only time of their lives in Hero of Ages. After that is a song made by request to take place during the scene in Final Empire when Kelsier fights Bendal the Inquisitor in the Square, tentatively titled "Fight Scene". And then a song to take place during what happens directly after it, with "The Lord Ruler's Arrival". Directly followed by a "Lament for Kelsier". There is a lot more where these came from, but I haven't recorded or saved them yet. But more is to come! I hope you enjoy! mistborn suite.MOV Vin and Elend Second Draft.m4a Kelsier vs Inquisitor.m4a The Lord Ruler's Arrival.m4a Lament For Kelsier.m4a

  21. Directly after the war Gaan smiled as they came for him. He wasn’t sure if the whispers he heard were from the acolytes in the corners of the room, or the figures who stood in the shadows. He didn’t resist as the two DA bruisers picked him up and put his arms in chains, nor when the hefted the warhammers. He let out a scream when the first blow came. As more fell, crushing his bones, Gaan let his sanity lapse, and just felt the pain. When the strikes stopped, there were no bones left in his body, just splinters. He knew what happened next. A third acolyte approaches bearing an empty box with a pink heart embossed on the side. Gaan felt his mass being lifted up, and then shoved in the box, being compressed and compressed until there was no space remaining. He felt the motion of air as the lid was put on, and he warmed with the heat of the sealing. He knew what happened next. There was an alley were failures like him went. It was unamed, for one would not dare to name a place such as this. In it were simply shelves. Shelves and shelves of cubes just like the one he was in. As he was lifted up and placed, he heard the silence of his companions. The silence of an eternity spent in a cube.

  22. Mail, is there a reason you’ve purpled me, aside from reasons already stated by others? And Crimsn, I’m doing my best not to play the New Player card, as I want my suspicions and opinions to be weighed equally with others - obviously I’m going to make mistakes as a new player, but I will do my best not to. Playing the new player card wouldn’t be in my best interest. I talk like I know what I’m talking about because I 1) am an arrogant human being and 2) see previous reason. And, I agree. As the Shqueeves post seems pretty set upon by others, I will instead vote on someone else who seems Spirit-y. I’ll do that when I can concentrate.

It only said one word: Waffles Itiah ate the paper, wishing it was a waffle. ~~~ Hey! I’m back, and here to offer my wisdom, so all you younglings can become enlightened like me! Number one piece of wisdom: Shqueeves Number two piece of wisdom: I don’t think Fifth is lying. This would all seem awfully elaborate just to get one mislynch. Besides, if it fails, it puts him and Dashe in the lynch spotlight. Number three piece of wisdom: If I was talking to myself, I would listen to myself. Therefore, you should listen to me! There we go, just a little bit of wisdom for everyone. In all honesty, I’m just writing this post like this because I’m all out of creative ideas, and I need something memorable to mark my return, right?

  24. Granted. Your boon is that you become Goddess of Ink (instead of QueenOfInk ). People now blame you for the outrageous prices of ink cartridges for their printers. Artists and calligraphers love you, though. Your bane is that you always forget to return a person's pen after they let you borrow it, and you end up stealing the pen by accident. Your home eventually becomes a legendary repository for lost writing implements. Intrepid explorers are always invading your house with no regard for your privacy, searching for the fabled Pen a la Multi-Colour. It's really annoying. - - - - - I wish that french fries could be healthy without losing any of their deliciousness.

  25. Because there wasn’t anyone else. Renarin would have been a bad king, Adolin didn’t want too, and neither did Dalinar (and to be fair, Dalinar does have a good reason, with him basically being the king of Urithiru). Amaram was sadly unavailible, Jasnah is ahead of Navani in the line for the throne, and Taln is too awesome for Alethkar. I personally hope that we will see Jasnah struggle in this position, since we almost always only get to see her being awesome. Struggle is far more interesting, and I do think that she might end up havibg more problems ruling a country than people anticipate.

  27. I will be live reacting, so reading through the thread and then typing up my responses as I see posts. I did pull up this cycle first to make sure that I was not dead, and could actually justify typing a bunch up. @Coop772 Well, there are, in fact, a few problems with this. 1. Info: if he was pushing for info, then it got shut down, continuing to stay with it would arouse suspicion, and be fairly useless. If a large amount of the village shoots something down then there is little point in continuing to push for it. 2. Changing to me: He changed to me before I had done anything. So far, not counting this post, I have made 2 posts, 1 of them was only a sentence long post that does not deserve to truly be counted. When he had switched to me I had none nothing. It was a poke vote, do not read too much into it. 3. Village Read: Again, I have posted once. I may be good at crafting lies over just one post. Reserve your judgment on me for a while yet, until you can get more of a read on me. 4. Suspicions: From what I've read of the thread so far, there are very few people who are playing suspicious at all. Nothing is standing out to me as being elim-y, and having your suspicions flop around a lot with little amounts of information is a fairly common thing to do. 5. Information: This game does not have a lot of good suspicions going around, so the best solution, in my mind, is to search for other sources of information. Now, the Independents have a choice, they can message Mail, or they can not, it is up to them on if they trust Mail. I would suggest that if there are any independents who have not already messaged him, then do not. If everyone independent messages him, the elims can convert Mail and he would have access to a large amount of information. Although you do have good points for an elim read, I do not believe that you have enough evidence to say we all need to lynch him, I still have a fairly strong village read of him. The rest of the end of the cycle was Mail and Coop having a quick discussion, largely covering the points listed above, and clarifying things, just seems like useful NAI discussion, with Mail quickly clarifying his suspicions and why. Then Devotary posted, quickly covering lynch candidates, and deciding to vote on Sart for his eagerness to hop on the faction list plan, when seems reasonable to me. Finally, BR came in and officially decided the lynch on Sart, which seems fairly village to me, and I agree that Sart seemed slightly more off than Bard. Onto this cycle! Sart was a child of Karata, and I'm not reading much into the lynch as of this moment. Sart seemed fairly separated, except from Mail, which does not tell us much. The lynch felt very organic, I feel like it easily could have been the elims staying separate from the lynch, and not having to do anything to push it in either direction. The Devotary and BR votes were last second, which will warrant them both another look into, but it did not feel like elims trying to protect a teammate, merely villagers trying to guarantee a lynch. Then there is the Coop attack. and attacks are weird this game, so I do not know much of what to read into it. It could have been someone attempting to implicate Mail, but, unless the Elims got a lucky conversion I do not believe that they have an attack.... I'll go double check rules. Does not seem like the elims have an attack, unless they got the lucky conversion, so either they did and are trying to throw someone (probably Mail), under the bus- which does not seem to effective to me- or a wildman decided that Coop was being suspicious and decided to attack. (or someone like Aanden attacked or another attacking role or.... you get the point). I am more inclined to believe that someone was not the happiest with Coop. You are going back through the thread, but I would like to hear why you have suspicions on these people. To me, at least, most of the votes seemed organic, something that could have come from a villager. The results of who voted on who only matter based off of their reasoning, as most votes will be placed by people who have no idea who is an elim, and the only ones who know are the elims themselves. (hopefully this paragraph makes sense...) This is pretty much the read that I got from BR's posts, and, at the very least, it is consistent with what it appeared to be. I see no small holes that could have happened if BR was an elim, so slightly village read.

  30. Nin didn't force any Skybreaker to follow him and his position toward the Singers. Simply Nin decided that FOR HIM, the Singers are the legittime rulers of the lands and and many Skybreaker's 3rd Oath sweared to follow him and his judgement. Therefore his decision extends to them too. I assume Nale would explain to every new Skybreaker this option now and some of them would probably decide to not follow him. Szeth is just the first Skybreaker to swear the third Oath from Nale's decision to side with Singers

  32. And... my comments on the first page just got deleted. Let's try this again... Sorry, I've been distracted the past few days and never got around to posting, which I should have. So... here goes my reactions to different things in the thread. It originally was going to be a my thoughts as I read things, but that will only be true for pages 1 and 3. Yeah, it could be a win condition for a Hrathen character, or just a everyone loses/draw mechanic. Either could be interesting. (Hope you start feeling better soon (if you haven't already)) Your reasoning is sound, though not really indicative of alignment. I could see either a Villager or a Elim making the same decision in your place. I could see justification for them not converting, if they have a team that is currently flying completely under the radar, and they believe that they will be able to keep that up, then converting at this point could just add in another thread leading back to the Spirit group. Good point. Mainly quoting this to reiterate this. I think we should assume that, at max, 1 cycle can be dropped every cycle. We should view this as a 5 cycle countdown timer for now, just to be safe. Very interesting question at the end there, that I see being a very villager question. I could see an Elim asking this question if there is a lot of talk about different Roles going on, and bringing it up before someone else does so that they seem Villagery, but there was little to no talk of roles going on, so it makes me lean slightly village on you. Interesting light on Mail's (storms your name is hard to read, too many Is and ls (i's and L's)) question. It could be a ploy to try and get the village confused by how results work and hope for an easy miss-lynch, but I'm not getting that vibe from it. You've been rather quiet as well (as have I), what are your thoughts on this cycle? Yet to meet you, Terminal (Can't call you Meta, so...) Welcome to SE! (even though you've already played a game besides this one...) Even if you don't have any direct suspicions, for cycle two at least we really need to get some information from a lynch. I'd like to know your reasoning for voting on Xino, even if it is a gut read, RNG, or just due to inactivity. Reasoning for the vote would be awesome. Thanks! Bard's post seem very in tune with how I've seen Bard play, and makes sense to me, even if I don't necessarily agree with it. I personally think that we should have had a lynch D1 (sorry I didn't vote at all), but it is a generally good argument to see how the game plays out with conversions. All in all, I do not have any form of an elim read on Bard from the post you quoted. I partially agree with you there. The big problem comes from Bandwagons, especially bandwagons where people can just jump on without having to give much of an explanation of their vote. Now, I'm not accusing you of doing that, just pressure of two votes is pretty good, just pointing out now that we do not want that type of bandwagon to happen. It would be awesome if you did. You have posted fairly little, and more voices is almost always going to help the village. I agree that Xino should say more, but I do not think that it is worth lynching him over it at this point, from previous games this is how he normally plays, and I do not believe that it would be productive to lynch him today. The switch made sense. I believe his first vote was simply a fairly random poke vote, and then, once faced with a a lynch candidate that he agreed with, he switched to voting for the. Pretty much what I figured. I do not believe that you'll have to hold your vote in the future, you tried to make something happen in that moment, and then adjusted once new evidence came up. I'll make one up. BR(1): Alvron Xino(0): Fifth Scholar, Terminal Terminal(1): Kipden Bard(2): Terminal, Cadmium Elandra(0): BR Straw(1): Drought And you posted this just before mine... mines better For now I will be putting my vote on Straw (@Straw), you have been innactive, and your only posts are about the game as a whole, and not individual suspicions, and seems slightly like an avoidance tactic, which I'm inclined to at least put a vote on you to get you to start posting, and put out your suspicions. You have at least had time to read the thread, as you have posted at least once so I would like to see at least some of your thoughts. Gonna make a vote for that? Also @Jaddeth in the Bush Seriously, DroughtDrinker? Come on man, I thought we were friends.

  34. The problem I had with the ending was that it felt more like a setup for a new series than a satisfying conclusion to an existing trilogy. Throughout the book, we're introduced to some new concepts—which isn't bad at all, or unexpected; Firefight did the same, expanding the world and setting things up for one heck of a Sanderson Avalanche. But where Firefight used its final 30-50 pages to answer the questions brought up both during its own story and in Steelheart, Calamity just posed more questions, teasing with the promise of having them answered in a different series. And, even more personal opinion here, where Steelheart's denouement felt both gritty and determined and Firefight's was a hard-won sort of hopeful, Calamity's felt kind of….okay, you know the epilogue for Deathly Hallows? How after all the grittiness and darkness and despair of the book itself, the epilogue is just a little too sweet, and it ties things up a little too neatly? How it's not a bad ending, and there are some good bits in it, but overall, after the series you just read, it feels unsatisfying? That's how the last 20 pages of Calamity felt to me. In a different series with a different tone, I'd probably have liked that ending; but for Reckoners? Not so much.

  40. I liked it a lot. It's definitely my favorite Legion story. It was much faster than the other two, and it took an almost horror feel for a while, which was really refreshing and gripping. It very much had the kind of content I wanted and expected from the final book in the series - aspects and Sandra - even if it didn't have quite enough of them to truly sate my hunger. The ending made me tear up a little (twice, by the way, because I beta'd this one, and reread it just a few days ago in preparation for our upcoming Shardcast episode). This is not something I talk about in the Shardcast, because there was never a good time for it, but the Legion stories have a very special place in my heart. I don't have any mental conditions, but I've always been someone who puts a lot of value in the mind, so ideas like losing memories, or skills, or seeing things that are not there, or changes in perception, all of these things affect me strongly. The idea that I can know or do something one moment and then lose it is terrifying to me. I don't really do with my hands, I am not a physical person, so my mind is very much all there is to me; so losing aspects (sorry) of it is just... ungh! So the ending felt really really good. Also, @Mark Lindberg found this, and I like it very much:

  41. My impression, especially since OB, is that Odium is not trying to set up a Minas-Tirith kind of battle between Urithiru-secluded humans and an international Parshendi inspiral. He tried to Thrill the human army to do the main work of the Voidbringer faction during the Battle of Thaylen City and has chosen humans (Dalinar and Taravangian) as candidates for his championship. One form of hatred is racism, now imagine if Odium's goal is to provoke humanity into committing genocide against the Parshendi? Maybe in a way humans have always been the Voidbringers.

  44. I don't think we'll see a Scadrian Shardblade personally. Not that I think they couldn't develop one (the magic is foreshadowed and hinted in wob to be far more complex than we've been show). I just don't see an incentive for them to develop it. They have entered an age where warfare is not focused on melee tactics. Their weapons tech will be more range focused.

  45. There seems to be a missing step here: Why would you assume that a Shardblade on Scadrial would manifest as an ordinary metal? The system that's 'designed' to make Shardblades has them be made of the godmetals of Roshar and if you could turn a Seon or Skaze into a blade (which is possible) they'd presumably be the same since they're Splinters of Devotion/Dominion. The only one we know of that isn't a godmetal is Nightblood, whose creation has many unanswered questions. We know that just dumping a lot of Investiture into a metalmind wouldn't work for the Metallic Arts and we aren't certain that there even is a way to make a Shardblade out of those systems. This also kind of nixes the idea that a 'Scadrian Shardblade' would function like an unsealed metalmind; rather what you'd get if you tried to make one that way would be 'a metalmind that just happens to be sword-shaped'.
