  2. Alright. I know this is unpopular, and everyone wants to believe that Taln is amazing. I'm not trying to say that he's not... But I don't think he's the reason for the millenia long break between desolations. I think this is what Odium wanted and that he acted to make it occur. First we have this, from the Sleepless, on the back cover of tWoK. Then this from Tanavast. The length of time wasn't Taln holding out against unspeakable odds. It's what Odium wanted. Then we have Taln himself in WoR. He's so broken he sees the world as off its burning and he wonders why people aren't screaming. I am convinced that he broke long ago and that Odium has actively held him back. In order to allow the Fused freedom Odium had to let him free, because the Oathpact is still in effect. The natural point to do this would have seemingly been just after the Recreance, but with the singers crippled the Fused would have no longer had bodies to take. Being incapable of forms she also mean incapable of housing a Fused. So Odium needed the Everstorm to heal the Parsh in order for the Fused to take bodies. He needed the proper climate to push the listeners to take stormform, and he couldn't release the voidspren to facilitate that until events favored them actually being willing to take stormform and release the Everstorm. Releasing the voidspren at a time earlier would have played his hand and driven the Spren to again seek Radiants just as they're doing now. It would have destroyed any advantage the Recreance gave him. Why would he think he was late if the goal were to stay away forever?

  4. From the album: Shadesmar

An abstract piece I did after reading WOK in 2012 depicting the experience of looking into Shadesmar. I was very interested by what the spren would look like there.

  5. Somewhere on the lawn. Klasten nodded appreciatively, then called to her. "Hey, Tena! Nice entrance, but it was a little jarring. Next time, can you try to be less surprising? I'm no Tineye." Under his breath he muttered something about how much he hated magical items and their rules. Cameo complete, he and Kicker faded away. Then reappeared, two meters to the left of where they'd been, seconds ago. "STORMS!" Klasten shouted. He walked over to Tena, smacked the can a few times, then glared at it. After a brief delay, the pair faded away again, this time for good.

  8. The Slaughter of Spikes The Winter Siege had gone on for months. The permeating cold of Newcago made it all harder. And cold steel? Cold steel did not help with warmth. The Space Marines were preparing. The Black Crusade would do battle with the Death Guard. THey hoped it would win the war, however risky and dangerous. Some of the men and women hoped to gain glory. Some had connection to the Alleyverse separate from being part of the Black Crusade. Theses numbers included Drako and Atticus. The glint of power armor hit by moonlight was everywhere. Newcago shined in the full moon. The sounds of marching boots echoed throughout the city. The two forces arrived in a large area, that seems to have been a skateboarding park before the Queen of this realm, Elsa Steelheart, had turned it to cold, harsh, metal. The forces looked at each other, sizing up. Then a voice rung through the silent night air. "FOR THE EMPEROR!!!" It split the silence and the battle begun. The Black Crusade space marines fought the Death Guard chaos marines. Blood soon spilled on the ground, and blaster bolts reflected everywhere. Armored bodies hit the ground, and nothing was quiet anymore. Then something happened. Something the Black Crusade had been entirely unprepared for. Something they had no way of preparing for. The Death Guard fought. But they had an advantage. They new they would win. There leaders hadn't told them what, but they warned them something was happening. So they fought. And waited. Suddenly, out of the back, a wave of Chaos Marines was blasted into the air as a new force came through. They were strange. They seemed nothing like anything they had ever seen before. Except once. Only once. The Seven Day War had involved similar creatures. As one confused Space Marine watched, he let slip, "The DA? Why would the Dark Alley be here?" Then something unforeseeable happened. The man started jerking, then his eyes grew dark. He then started to attack his fellow Space Marines. A strange being, wich appeared to be an ancient husk the size of a Chasmfiend, wearing bright colors, smiled. Another man started jerking. Then another. Soon there was ten members of the Black Crusade attacking their own side. Other strange, unexplained thing happened as well. Men would randomly fall dead, with now wound upon them. Purple beams of power came from the side of the Death Guard, ripping through unprepared Space Marines. The Chaos Marines, heartened by the strange advantages, even though they were confused by this strange turn of events. It became a massacre quickly. As the Black Crusade turned, the Death Guard struck. Men and women dropped over the smooth surface of the ex-skate park. Not even a further twenty Chaos Marines fell. It was a slaughter. There was a woman watching from a nearby rooftop. She was a sentinel, and her name was Ambrosia. She was preparing a report for their leader, who wished to join the war. The woman looked down on the battlefield, which had cleared quickly. Only the dark figure of the creatures the Death Guard had brought remained. She finished her report. It read: The fight started as an even match, but the Death Guard brought help. The majority of these creatures appear to be Hemalurgic, with one exception. The beauty of their creation was unmistakable, no matter how vile. Many of them seem to be at the level of the DA's most intricate creations. Subtle and deadly. The battle was a massacre, and to properly name it, I will call it The Slaughter of Spikes. I have named these demonic creatures for the purposes of the report. The Puppeteer: It looks like a giant corpse, dressed in the clothes of a court jester, or the King's Wit. It had the ability to take over human bodies. It seems to have a limit of ten, but I'm not positive. It was large, at least 40 feet, so brute strength would be an incredible asset. Further powers remains to be seen. Shades: There were 17 present. They looked human in shape. They each had glowing red eyes, purple hair and eyebrows,, and had pitch black skin. They had a carapace covering their main body, and four more on their hands and feet. They would randomly disappear in a cloud of smoke, and reappear fro a second, slicing at a Space Marine. There hand went through living and nonliving material, acting like a shardblade without burning eyes. I believe they are taking advantage of the Transportation surge, and the unique properties of the Alleyverse to travel between realms. Dark Kandra: These appeared to be regular Kandra, except they had violet glowing eyes. I only realized they were Kandra when one was hit, and they liquified around it. Unlike normal Kandra, they all appear to have no aversion to death, having killed several Space Marines. They also were highly trained, similar to an Ghostblood Assassin. Despite this, I doubt they have anything to do with the Ghostbloods. The Black One: This one was strange. It looked like an Elantrian, but It was different. It had black hair, and a dark, gray looking skin. It glowed not with the regular Elantrian light, but a glow exactly the shade of Voidlight, such as the veins found on Hellbent's armor. It had spikes through It's eyes, but it did not seem like an an Abomination. It looked more like a demon from hell. It moved little, only raising his hand to shoot blasts of purple energy out of It's hand. The sentinel woman packed up, pulled out a piece of crystal, and teleported away. She never saw the creature staring at her. She never realized that It had been watching her the whole time. That It knew exactly who she was, and what she was doing. The Abominations had long since left, but It was still there. In the moonlight, a reflection could be seen in the blood pooling on the floor. The reflection showed a dark figure. The figure looked strange. The creature in the reflection looked remarkably like a man who had perished in the Seven Day War. A man who had died fighting Devaan. A man who had owned armor glowing of Voidlight. ****** This battle was mostly just a way to show the danger the Black Crusade is in, and to introduce the Abominations. I have more information about them I'm working on, but this is it for now. I have no idea when I will be able to to a long write up again.

  10. This is all my doing, btw. Someone posted in the Stormlight group on Facebook about going and I got her to ask it for me. The actual wording of my question was "If Hoid got his hands on, say, bavadinium, could he alloy it with lerasium to grant himself Sand Mastery?" She said Brandon's answer was "It's theoretically possible." I've been chasing this theory for a long time, and I'm over the moon about it.

  11. Fairly straightforward theory, and an extract of a large one I had posted before on hypothetical shard metals. Basically the idea is the true effect of Lerasium is to allow the rewriting of connections to connect someone to a shard, and the shard metal alloyed with Lerasium is what determines the shard the person burning it is connected to. The reason becoming a mistborn is a side effect is because if it isn't alloyed with another metal then it just increases the connection to Preservation. It could be that the alloy will also increase the connection to Preservation, but it the main effect, or equal effect, is the connection to the shard the alloying metal comes from, and thus it would be possible to burn the shard metal for an effect. The question then is would one be able to burn alloys of the shard metal, becoming a the equivalent of a mistborn but with other metals, or only the shard metal that the lerasium was alloyed with? I.e., if alloyed with Atium, would the burner become a Seer or an Atium-mistborn? Or are Seers already the equivalent of Atium-mistborn?

  12. Hello! I've never been good at introductions but here I am lol. I've read the Stromlight Archive and have started on Hero of Ages. My favorite character has to be Shallan. I would love to read more on Adonalsium and how he was broken apart into Shards, as well as more on Shard holders themselves and how they seem to slowly consume each other. This copper mind has been a wealth of information and ideas, you people are awesome

  13. I don't know. But this is also the same sentence in which he called himself the "spren of redemption." Another thing I have trouble believing. And it's not exactly like has shown us a history of being honest with her. He used her to bring about the return of the Fused, and then attempting to house one of them in her body. She had no idea what that meant until after Demid was dead. I think you view the mechanics of what I'm proposing differently then I do. I don't think he could have held Taln and released the Fused... And the last piece just clicked into place. Going to need to go edit the OP a bit. In order to allow the Fused freedom he had to let Taln free, the Oathpact is still in effect. But he didn't just free Taln a couple of months before the Fused arrived. He did it before the final piece he needed. Honor died shortly after the Recreance yes... But with the Singers crippled he didn't have bodies for them anyway. He needed the Everstorm to heal the Parsh so the Fused could have bodies. He needed the proper climate to push them to take stormform, and he couldn't release the voidspren to facilitate that until events favored them taking stormform and releasing the Everstorm. Releasing the voidspren at a time earlier would have played his hand and driven the Spren to again seek Radiants just as they're doing now. It would have destroyed any advantage the Recreance gave him. I think, with Taln's flashbacks in the back five, that's a guaranteed RAFO.

  14. Like Kuiinteth said, we don't know how they work. Medallions are not just "unkeyed nicrosil minds." all that would do is allow a nicrosil Ferring to tap from a mind stored by someone else. The medallions are more complicated.

  15. What is your goal? To become yet another soul who gave up and was forgotten? You want to show them something. But are you sure you know exactly what you want to prove. You believe there’s something wrong with the place you live in. But are you certain you’ve pinned it down? Is there anyway for you to know ome hundred percent that hurting yourself would solve the world’s problems? Is there? If you say yes - think about it. Think of it like chess. One small thing could push it all off. And then what? What happens? Nothing changes. The world stays the same in every way but one. It no longer has you. Yes, saying everyone matters is cheesy. Yes, it’s something inspiring in a stupid way. But at the end of the day it’s almost always true in the crem filled world we live in. Every person to see how awful it is brings up the chances of improvement. Hurting yourself won’t change or help anything. So don’t.

  16. Hey everyone, so I am new (obviously) and love this forum so far! So I picked up my first cosmere-related book (not Sanderson book, but cosmere-related book) on January 1st this year-and loved it so much I finished the whole cosmere by August 21st (unless you count white sand- haven't gotten ahold of that yet). Anyway, I have a burning question and I was wondering if any of you know the answer or want to share your opinions- Does everyone in the Cosmere have breath? I get that they aren't all drabs but do they all have a breath, like from when they are born? Or is it just people from Nalthis (Nalthinians?)? I mean Hoid got some extra but Hoid is Hoid and besides I figured anyone could get more... Anyway would really appreciate any reply to this (And heads up, I really like parentheses as you can tell). Suppose I should also introduce myself- I'm a dude who lives in Japan although I am American and admittedly haven't read much fantasy outside of Sanderson (Do like Fablehave and Eragon tho, although I am still working on Eragon so no spoilers). TLDR; Hi. Who has breath.

  17. I've already posted a theory outlining the idea of each order having unique abilities in addition to their resonance already - see here - but I would like to focus on each individually as well, as I think each possibility as a subject also could make sense. I think lightweaving - all surges, actually - have three modes. The first is the basic properties of the surge, which the orders that have it can all potentially use, such as Bondsmiths and Windrunners can all make things adhere, and Windrunners and Skybreakers can make things move according to a new gravitational vector. Each might be able to access the full range of these abilities, but it might be only a subset is available. The second and third are using the surge with a neighbour, so - and this is hypothetical - Windrunners being able to perform reverse lashings, while I suspect Skybreakers can't, but instead make objects break apart, or how Jasnah was able to transmit a transformation across several people - indeed, I think part of this filters back to the knights uses of each singular surge as well, as Shallan has to convince while Jasnah has to force. So, when I say lightweaving I mean illumination, available to both Lightweavers and Truthwatchers. As the pole says, I think lightweaving has several uses, the most striking to me is that of lasers, followed closely by that of radio. I think if radio is possible, then it would mainly be lightweavers with access to it, as cryptics like patterns, so encoding radio would be something they could both do and find facinating. Truthwatchers, with the implication of watching, also might be able to do that, and might also be able to use it to see far off things, focusing light. However, the main ability I think they both might have is the ability to make a focused beam or continuous pulse of either sound or light in order to damage or blind or stun. I will get to how this meshes with Truthwatchers, but I think that it makes sense if they can produce sounds and light that they can make a focused beam or pulse of either at sufficient levels to be dangerous. Lightweavers can possibly apply a permanent illusion to a fabrial, and might be able to bake the illusion an activation system, both allowing the fabrial to be controlled via three dimensional interface, as well as switching on when the fabrial has stormlight, the illusion appearing once stormlight is present. They also definitely can change people - possibly their resonance, or another combined power - but they also might be able to perform more extensive changes to objects than Elsecallers can - while Elsecallers might be able to make part of something change, other than a liquid, I think by applying a lightweaving to something they might be able to use transformation to make it match the illusion, much like forgery. Truthwatchers are focused on healing and helping, so it might not make much sense for them to be able to hurt people with lasers. But if they can fire a spiritual laser with a focus on removing harmful investiture ... Truthwatchers are closest to the idea of cultivation, and cultivation is also pruning and cutting away, and removing parasites. A beam of light that kills enemies and heals allies would be something that makes sense, and a general wave of light that heals all allies nearby would likewise be both illumination and healing. Lastly, as they are watchers, if they could use illumination to make an image of things that happened before - a progression of events in the past - they could also be detectives, and could use past events to better understand how to help those in need. What do you think? Any abilities to add, or are some of these a stretch? :-)

  19. @PallonianFire I guess great minds - humble minds too :-P Though I personally think it isn't so much that burning the alloy gives access to the exact power from another world, but instead alloys the burning of the metal for a new but potentially related effect, unless the connection itself is important. So, like @Draginon said with using the metal from either Aona or Skai, or an alloy of their metals, it might make you Elantrian, but I think it would give another ability to burn their metals instead, with the possible effect of making it easier to become an Elantrian. Burning an alloy of Lerasium and Tanavastium, or an alloy with "Slammerium" or a mixture of the three, probably wouldn't make someone a Knight, but it would make them connected and able to burn those metals for an effect, and possibly burn the alloys. A mixture of them, however, might make one a knight if they are also somehow linked to Roshar. @Corax That is what I think - also, side note, I hope they change Hero of Ages to use not 16 percent, but 1/16 of those affected, as Fuzz was worried about the units changing, and 16% is all about the units, breaking it up into 100's and then selecting 16 from the hundreds, rather than directly into selecting one out of 16 ... This is also why Mistborn is important to the Cosmere, and will be the last series - at least, this is why I think it will be, because the metals of other shards are the condensed power - a system all about using the very material shards condense as makes sense.

  20. Alright, I don't really see any other evidence on Cadcom that matches the clues, so i think we can safely dismiss him. Let's see what that leaves us with: (greyed out matches no evidence or matches an unchosen hint better) I'm not seeing which of Elandera's evidence or method would match the head, though it could be the tears of edgli flower. Meta with the scarf and either the White sand or the Aviar feather could work, though Aviar feather is a better fit for necessary. Nightmaw/pet monkey isn't a particular good fit, and its the only one with Snipexe. Droughtbringer's only possible method is rioting, and 'big city' would be a far better fit for locaiton in that case. I'm not really seeing the 'head' hint with what remains of madagascars options. PK could fit somewhat, though deathants is the better fit for necessary, but its also a method that would fit better with poisoning. ITIAH's lost divine breath would fit with 'head' and 'necessary', but none of his evidence fits wilderness well. Bort has got a lot of options, but nothing that seems to be a perfect fit. Devotary lacks something that fits the 'head' hint. Joe has multiple options as well, though nothing that would fit with 'necessary'. Walin lacks something that's necessary as well. # Player Name Methods of Murder Pieces of Evidence Removed 1 Elandera / Oyh Sword, Deathweed Bark, Meekers, Dreok's Axe, Aon Daa (Power), Axehound Pup, Bullet Casings, Ancient Text, Tears of Edgli Flowers, Aluminum Hat 2 MetaTerminal / Felksi Fenweed Poison, Rathbore Monk, Scarf, Koloss Blade, Surgebinding, White Sand, Withered Hand, Aviar Feather, Message Written in Blood, Singed Cloak 3 Snipexe / The Witness Steelrunning, Nightmaw, Nightblood, Midnight Essence, Poisoned Wine, Pet Monkey, Red Flag, Piece of Ralkalest, Religious Text, Ceremonial Bowl 4 Droughtbringer / In Bloodsealing, Metal Poisoning, Rioting, Dagger, Punch, Water Bottle, Chull Dung, Dust, False Beard, Vandalism 5 Madagascar / Mad Acid, Dueling Cane, Bow & Arrow, Ettmetal Explosion, Aimian, Children’s Book, Cracked Gemstone, Larkin Corpse, Boots, Fancy Dress 6 Steeldancer / Squid of Steel Skeletals , Enhanced Strength, Poisoned Needle, Backbreaker Powder, Atium, Ice, Blood, Scorch marks, Vandalized Statue, Straw Man 7 Paranoid King / The Ghost of John Smith Blackbane Leaf, Deathants, Birchbane, Whitespine, Awakened Rope, Triangular Razors, Aon Kii, Aon Ashe Plate, Spectacles, Pot of Stew 8 Randuir / Holmlock Shears Bare Hands, Burned at the Stake, Obsidian Axe, Swampvine, Kick, Tattoo, Survivor Pendant, Firemoss, Hairpin, Crem 9 I Think I am Here. / Itiah VII Lost Divine Breath, Dakhor Ritual, Shades, Blood Loss, Venomous Bite, Horseshoes, Stick, Ink, Spanreed, Empty Vial 10 Bort / May Bebort Jeskeri Cult Ritual, Booby Trap, Mistwraith, Grandbow, Firesnap Lizards, Bones, Footprint, RaiDel Pepper, Lavis Beer, Cigar Case 11 Rathmaskal / Harry Hemalurgic Chimera, Smoke, Toxic Fungus, Glass Dagger, Air-powered Crossbow, Artifact, Scorch Marks, Priest’s Robes, Fashion Magazine, Dirt 12 Devotary of Spontaneity / Fourth of the Twilight Poisoned Dart, Cut-away vines, Torture, Highstorm, Shardplate, Broadsheet, Aon Reod, Map, Wetleek Sap Trail, Crab Legs 13 A Joe in the Bush / Various Divide Beheading, Shardblade, Cliff, Deepwalker, Betrayal, Medallion, Lockpicks, Soulstamp, Shu-Korath Pendant, Safehand Glove 14 Kidpen / Alvron Duel, Hammer, Patji’s Finger, Strangle, Hook, Aonic Dictionary, Purple Blood Droplets, Saddle Strap, Lak, MaiPon Sticks 15 Cadmium Compounder / Spork Soulcasting, Explosion, Lifeless Soldier, Rifle, Dehydration, Hoofprints, Glow Paste, Smoke, Rotspren, Wig 16 Walin / Higsedal The Shaod, Chasmfiend, Black Frayn, Fire, Martial Arts, Forged Painting, Infused Spheres, Lamp, Skull, A'kar's Symbol

  21. A man appeared near a DIDGERIDOO table and sat down. He looked much... not older but... wiser now. Anyone who looked into his eyes instantly turned away because the wealth of knowledge in them was so great that one that stared into them would be driven mad within minutes. Last time someone had seen him was... 16 years ago now. Back then he'd appeared more intimidating, but with time he'd learned to control his powers without necessarily needing to look terrifying. If he needed to wipe out a planet or something of the sort he would need to take up his old mantle but for now he could retain his human face. A beautiful young woman appeared beside him. She had her father's eyes, but she also gave off an aura of calming magnificent power. The blood of a great man flowed in her veins, and part of the spirit of a God was attached to her spiritweb. The man walked up to the counter. It seemed to almost bow to him, acknowledging the power that stood before him. "All the waffles you have please. It's my daughter's 19th birthday, so could you please make them by secret recipe number #67? I created that one for her years ago andshe still adores them." "But sir... that was created by the late Lopen back before the great war. Who might you be?" "The late Lopen huh? I am very punctual actually."

  26. LG49/AN3: Hour 1.5 - Veneers over Venom Lords and ladies bickered amongst themselves, skirmishes masked by sugary sweetness. How very new and exciting, Thara thought, holding a tray of drinks and smiling just as falsely as the rest of them. If only they’d drop that veneer of civility and just say things, like normal people do. But then, she reflected, there was probably a reason for that civility. Being rude to your local butcher would at worst just mean you got meat elsewhere. Being rude to the king’s son, or advisers, or other such exalted persons? That could have Consequences. Thara would probably just get thrown in jail, though. That was probably just small-c consequences, on the scale of things. The fracturing of alliances that held the newborn kingdom together would be much more important Consequences. Thara shook herself and smiled even more brightly. “Wine, brightlords and ladies?” she asked the nearest group, only to realise that these were no brightlords. In fact, they weren’t even human - she’d just offered wine to a group of... not-parshmen. She could never remember what they were actually called, but that was close enough. She held her breath, hoping one of them understood her. Or that they liked wine. “Not for us, young one,” one of them said in a strange, sing-songy accent. He sounded... amused, maybe? One of the Parshendi took a goblet, though, despite the glance of the one who had spoken. Thara grinned inwardly - some things weren’t so different, it appeared! She continued on, weaving through the crowd of everyone who was considered important. “Wine, brightlords and ladies? Wine, brightlords and ladies?” She could feel herself growing hoarse, slowly. But it would be extraordinarily poor form to drink from her own tray... She glanced around the room searchingly, then started slowly working her way towards a particular corner of the great hall. When she arrived, she ducked into a hidden nook that almost no one knew about and took a significant gulp of one of the oranges she was carrying. She almost dropped the precious glass when she heard a voice from behind her say “Ummm...” Hour 1.5 has begun. It will end on Monday, September 10th, at 11am BST. 28. Hi, all. This is my first post. I may not be up-to-date on everything Sanderson, but I had some thoughts I'd like to share regarding Trell. If these thoughts have been espoused before, I'd be happy to be linked to them. My thoughts are specifically on the entity affecting the era two Mistborn novels, not the historical religion found on Scadrial. The two entities may be revealed to be the same, but the historical Trell is outside the scope of this post. I believe we can infer quite a lot about Trell's intent from what we've been given in the novels so far. First, let's consider the Set, who have been working with Trell. Here are the names we're introduced to from this organization: Set (the organization) Series (the group of leaders) Sequence (Telsin Ladrian, a high ranking admin) Suit (Edwarn Ladrian, a high ranking admin, though lower than Sequence) Array (Irich, high ranking researcher) Let me note that if we consider all of these names as part of a theme, then "Suit" should be considered like a card suit (hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs), not the suit you wear. Most of the terms can be found in mathematics, and perhaps more importantly, are all ways of organizing, categorizing, or ordering items. Furthermore, the Set's mission is opposed to Harmony. They do not like the disorder that exists under Harmony. They want to create the perfect society. I've noticed an interesting parallel in Marasi's dream of a perfect society organized by statistics, in which crime can be prevented by knowledge of statistics and eliminating the factors that would cause crime. (This is not to imply that Marasi will in any way join the Set or Trell, but I do not think Sanderson would present her views without reason or potential payoff of some sort from the themes of the story, even if it's small). Furthermore, let's look at the major conflict Wax has had with Harmony in recent books: the permission of evil. It's the same conflict that broke the kandra Paalm. Wax accuses Harmony of not preventing such things, but Harmony rebuts him by asking where the line could be drawn. To what degrees is he supposed to maintain order? His intent is Harmony, the balance of Ruin and Preservation, and in this balance I think we can find a side intent in preserving the free will of humans, in permitting both the evil and the good, in their disorder as much as their order. Furthermore, we meet an "Immortal" who has been working with the Set, who I think it's safe to assume is a more direct agent of Trell than the Set are. The Immortal communicates to Suit that they are no longer interested in managing civilization on Scadrial because "[r]ecent advances have made civilization [on Scadrial] too dangerous. Allowing it to continue risks further advances we cannot control, and so we have decided to remove life on this sphere instead." (emphasis mine) Now, I don't know that there is a direct opposite of Harmony, the way Ruin and Preservation were opposed, but given the themes and conflicts we've seen, and how this parallels very nicely with the goals of the organization working with Trell, I do think we can see how Harmony and Trell can be opposed. Whereas Harmony permits disorder in the name of free will, Trell's motives appear to be total order, a sort of totally planned world that operates in an ordered, predictable, and controlled way. Again, we see the Set in pursuit of an ordered world, we see Marasi hoping such an ordered world can be peaceably brought about, and we have Wax in personal conflict with the harm he and others have experienced because of free will and the permission of evil. Trell, in a sense, is what they all want (or think they want(ed)), though much, much more than they bargained for, and we're left with a Shard opposed to the way Harmony is managing Scadrial. So I definitely do not think that Trell is Odium. He's something different, driven by organization and not hatred. His Shard is Order, or at least is a shard with an intent that desires that order, planning, organization, and perfection that is opposed to Harmony.

  29. SPOILERS AHEAD!! Some thoughts I've sat on for quite some time apply to this very topic. 1.) When referring to faceless immortals, it makes me think of the ancient singers, turned broken souls, durring the desolations over the thousands of years. (Sanderson said that the books are supposed to be taking place chronologically. A lot can have happened in those thousands of years that we didnt hear about, besides the final empire, of which we only got the tail end.) At this point in their existence, these parshendi ghosts, are faceless, and immortal. With that in mind, consider that their eyes glow when they take a listeners body. So did the eyes of the jerk that blew up "Edworm," and before he killed Suit he didn't seem to care that he was about to die, just like with the parshendi bodies that keep getting used up like they don't matter when possessed on Roshar. In connection to this there are also the svrakiss that are said to possess the dead as a disguise as means to affect the living. (Theoretically they too could be in cahoots as "faceless immortals.") Considering that all a dead soul has to do to be locked into the cognitive realm before crossing over (*cough*kelsier*cough) is touch raw divinity, it stands to reason that a shard could collect a select few souls before the crossing is complete, and use them as servants. (Its currently Feb.10th.2019. I'm on my second run through of all things Cosmere. I'm in the middle of Shadows of Self. In chapter 8, Harmony himself refers to the Kandra as the faceless immortals, so there's that. However I still have this feeling of reservation that they may not be the only ones being referenced in the Cosmere with that term.)* Given all the many possibilities for who they actually are, I wouldn't be surprised all the investitures could accomplish the task of filling that profile, and more so using multiple investiture. I'd been considering that the true void bringers were the humans all along since about, I think, early on the second stormlight archive. The reason being that the parshendi would change form as it were needed, and the "parshmen" were formless and enslaved. Something about that didn't sit right with me given the war between parshendi and humans. Additionally saying parsh-man out loud sounded to me like I was saying, "part-man" as in only being partially a man, a "partial-man...parsh-man" and it clicked that they were in fact missing their emotions, or partial beings as it were, void inside. Back to the death of Suit, if you take all that into account, (the svrakiss possesions, the ancient parshendi possesions, the hollowed out personalities, existing beyond death) I'm betting that possessing a human with an ancient parshendi isn't out of the realm of possibility. Taking into account that Hemalurgy allows investature where there once was none, this seems even more possible. Then consider what it could mean to potentially accomplish Hemalurgy with a spike carved from a gemheart, and we now have unknown possibilities. In any case I'm pretty sure the term faceless imortal is a reference to some ghost like soul or the nother. 2.) I'm not entirety sure how, though my thoughts want to sway toward the eyespike having something to do with it, if it really is him...it appears that Kesier returned to the physical realm somehow. However, his appearing to the southern scadrialings, without hair, makes it sound to me more like he got a kandra to do it for him, and the eyespike simply served another purpose. I think its likely that the spike is what gave the kandra the ability to make the warmth medallions. I also think Saze was partly involved. As Harmony it would make sense for Sazed to use a portion of Ruins investiture, the spike, and a kandra, which is a result of Ruins investiture, to preserve the people of the South. 3.) If you think of autonomy in the sense of, 'acting independently,' and then that Sanderson said the essence of each shard exists everywhere but the "holder" of each can't comprehensively reach all of it, it would make sense that Autonomy could very well be giving orders to to The Set with the idea in her head that they take her order and act independently. Leaving her alone for the most part to do as she wishes. Additionally it is in a sense, a form of control, to give very precise instruction and organization, (which sounds like The Set,) and with precise instruction and organization one could evoke autonomy by not having need of further management. The original personality of the shard holder should be taken into account as well given that residual subconscious cognitive represensation is prevalent in the cognitive realm, so it would stand to reason that to some degree the personality's interpretation of a given held shard would like to be come into play. With the extra large panel for the introduction of the character, and almost solely for presentation of the character, of Trell in White Sand...plus the fact that Autonomy is creating Avatars, the theory that the letter to Hoid was from Autonomy, the connection between Trell and The Set, and the theory that Autonomy is on Taldain, Taldains cosmere location with Harmony stating that something worrisome is occurring that he can't quite see...all of this makes me think that Trell is Autonomy. Autonomy's letter to Hoid also references Hoid coming back to 'these waters' and in the cognitive real a landmass would be depicted as a body of water. Therein with Taldain being a large amount of sand that in the cognitive realm would probably be mostly water or some variance of it given sand is solid, then with Hoid traveling from one planet to the next via the cognitive realm, his initial arrivals there would be not to place primarily of land, but of water. The notable chinks in this weave are that If the letter to Hoid is Autonomy, then why say 'we' instead of 'I' given that it states the need for being left alone, and why expressly state the lack of concern for odium, and whats with The Set using possessed bodies similar to that of Roshar's depiction. It makes me think that Autonomy may in fact be a dual shard that we haven't been made aware of, similar to Harmony, but I vaguely remember someone asking Brandon if a dual shard holder had existed before Sazed and he answered no that he was now the first. If you include the Trelegism religion with it's significance in division of night and day, in Tandem with the idea that Autonomy, as a dual shard and as considered to be on Taldain, that would explain the lack of fear of Odium and the 'we' aspect of the letter. It would make sense that Leras would also try to keep track of his fellow shard siblings as fictitious religions in his worlds past, as a form of preserving the knowledge and as a subtle warning to his children as it were. 4&5.) If possible though, that Autonomy is a dual shard, and we're just waiting for someone to ask good ol' Branders the right questions and not get RAFO'd, I'd say that maybe its similar to when Sazed thrust one hand each into the two shards, and similar to how dominion and devotion are in coexistence on Sel, so it's possible that two people tried to claim the same two shards at the same time, and now all four are locked into the cohabitation they are in. Adds to the effective use of "we" in the letter to Hoid as well, while technically not being a single individual dual shard wielder, thus allowing for Brandon to flat out say 'no, Sazed's the first,' without having to lie. It then makes me think that just like Preservation and Ruin were opposing forces, that the other 14 are also, in some manner, each distinct opposites in sets of two. To this I also think that there may have been a pattern to the 8 sets of two shards, or 4 sets of four, just as there were with the original 16 metals having half internal effects on the body, and half external effects from the body, which could have been the spark that brought Leras to obsession over the thousands of years with 'preserving' the devine knowledge revolving around the number 16. Given the 9 or so shards we've been told of specifically so far, and my theory of pairs or groupings, it might be possible to cobble a generalized working of what the last ones might end up being. That would give us a direction for working out who else might be pulling what strings they can. 6.) The Set are also falling kinda close to the category of 'reletive to 16' with their insistence on naming their seatholders after grouping descriptors, and they might be after all sixteen original shards/powers as a panultimate endgame. Which brings me to questions I'm going to have to perpetually dig for if no one knows the answers yet. Is Sazed's power solidified as a single entity permanently as we now know it to be that of Harmony? Will the two original powers be available separately if for some reason Sazed is downed should there happen to be another clash of power like that of Ati and Vin? What would it take to separate the powers/shards when if-Adonals forbid-they be stripped from their current holder and not be immediately apart? Could Adonalsium be a part of a greater whole given the ability to topple the original holder of the 16 shards? Knowing 'god' was killed to create the shards, then how high and or low does the tier ladder stretch? (There's even an actual after life that we know next to nothing about; where does that fit into all of this.) (My original statement that I replaced:) *Also a possible type of faceless imortal, the kandra, are within most respects relative to the Cosmere, both, faceless, and immortal.

  32. Greetings to all! I'm a little nervous, since I've never been an active participant in Internet forums before, but I'll try to follow the instructions and hope that everything will be fine. I read Mistborn a couple of years ago, and also last week finished reading Oathbringer. I was pleased with these books and did not regret the time spent on them, and for me it was a big surprise to learn that Brandon Sanderson's books are related to each other. I plan to reread all the books I know, and those I have never touched before, to see the full picture of Sanderson's works. I will be glad to use the services of this site, as I am sure that alone it will be very difficult to find everything. I'm so excited!

  34. The Stormlight Archive series was offered to me by a colleague at work. And when I began to read, we often discussed the chapters during breaks. And during one of the breaks, he accidentally revealed to me information about two characters. When I insisted, he told me about Sanderson's work. It was a surprise to me to learn that the trilogy I once read was also part of this world.

  39. I was thinking that about Shalash too, especially with how she's been going around destroying depictions of herself, though I did think it would be a bit on the nose to have the nickname "Ash" when Dustbringers bond with ashspren haha. Thanks for the WoB.

  41. I was going to write up a long paragraph but realized I needed to think about it more. For the time being, I'm just going to say that I don't think he's going to undergo the same centripetal force while still anchored to the same relative point on the centrifuge while inside a speed bubble since his velocity and therefore inward acceleration would be a lot lower, too low to keep him moving along the same circular path. Also, keep in mind that a released object in a centrifuge would go sideways until it contacted the wheel, it wouldn't fall outwards since it's velocity is tangential to the circular path it's on. Correct thanks to Gagylpus

'Prefrontal Cotex is right,' There was a stunned silence. 'WHAT???' Amygdala screamed. 'SINCE WHEN CAN PREFRONTAL EVER BE EVEN CLOSE TO RIGHT?' 'Right now, obviously,' said Association Cortex. 'Fighitng without a reason is dumb. 'WE'RE ALWAYS DUMB!' Amygdala screamed. 'WHY-' Somatosensory Cortex decked Amygdala in the face. Coincidentally, Ioc punched itself in the face. 'OW!' When I read the first line I literally whooped for joy and rested my hands on my chin and stared into the distance with a dopey smile on my face. By the end of the small sequence, I had tears in my eyes from laughter. Slay queen!
